🗣️ Academia de Ciencias de California: Opiniones
Experiencia fantástica: I came to this place many, many times. It has a bunch of cool exhibits and animals. It has live fish, sharks, snakes, butterflies, and even an albino alligator named Clark. It also has a cafe, and a playground at the back. It is fun going there every single time
Experiencia negativa: We got lured to the museum by the Dino exhibition, which is basically a joke, I do t think even kids get amazed with this one. The rest of the museum is overall ok, but if you’ve been to any other museum of this type in California, or Zoo, or aquarium - you will be disappointed. If you’ve are excited by the rooftop - there is only a small terrace available for visitors.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing experience with my kids. Fun filled day . Will visit again. Becoming Member will get 10% off in cafeteria and gift shops. Morrison Planetarium is the best. My kids loved the entire day and want to go back again!
Experiencia fantástica: Science matters and this beautiful place has it all. It's a rainforest-planetarium-aquarium-living museum all in one! A little pricey for admission but well worth it. Don't skip the SF earthquake simulator, that was super cool! Also, you may want to avoid the mistake of going when kids are out of school unless you don't mind that. Highly recommend a visit when in San Francisco!
Experiencia fantástica: The California Academy of Sciences is an amazing place that we keep coming back to. It’s spacious and packed with so much to see and explore. One of our favorite parts is taking the elevator down from the rainforest to the aquarium—it’s such a fun transition. The large tank in the aquarium always captures our attention, and we can spend a long time just watching the marine life. Cloud, the white alligator, is absolutely adorable! The special dinosaur exhibits are always impressive and worth seeing, no matter how many times we’ve visited. We also love enjoying a meal in the cafeteria while looking at the dinosaur displays. The kids’ play area is so much fun that it’s hard to get the children to leave once they’re in. It’s truly a wonderful place that we never get tired of visiting.
Experiencia fantástica: A fun and educational spot for all ages! The California Academy of Sciences has an amazing aquarium, a walk-through Amazon rainforest filled with butterflies and birds, and several dining options. Great for families or anyone curious about nature and science.
Experiencia fantástica: Haven't been since the remodel everything was really nice and love the new electronic dinosaurs. Missed out on the rainforest. My recommendation is to do the rainforest first because you end in the aquarium. We started in the aquarium and did some other things not realizing the rainforest closed at 430 (missed it by 5 mins). So ya rainforest before aquarium that way you don't go up and downstairs multiple times for no reason. Great experience tho
Experiencia positiva: Absolutely worth the visit, great exhibitions. Only complaint is the photo people pressuring you to buy photos. Got really angry at us and wouldn't take no for an answer. Chill out a bit!
Experiencia fantástica: So much to see! So much fun! Amazing time and a great experience, also HUGE shoutout to Megan at the store, they were such a cool human and really made our day! Will be back
Experiencia fantástica: The California Academy of Sciences is an amazing experience for the whole family! My kids absolutely loved it especially the planetarium, which was both educational and visually stunning. The show we saw had breathtaking visuals that really captured their attention while teaching about space and our planet. It's definitely a highlight and worth planning your visit around the showtimes! The aquarium section is incredible, with a wide variety of marine life to explore. From glowing jellyfish and colorful coral reefs to massive tanks filled with tropical fish, sharks, and stingrays there's so much to see. The kids were fascinated by the living roof, too an outdoor garden space that's actually part of the building's eco friendly design. One of our favorite parts was the reptile and amphibian section. There are so many interesting species to view up close, including snakes, frogs, turtles, and even a rare albino alligator. And we can’t forget the otters! There’s a special section where you can watch these adorable little creatures swimming, playing, and interacting. They were a big hit with the kids and honestly, the adults too! The museum is beautifully laid out, super clean, and well organized. The staff is friendly and informative, and there are hands on exhibits and interactive stations that make learning fun. There's also a café on-site and plenty of spots to sit and take breaks if you’re visiting with little ones. Overall, the California Academy of Sciences is a must visit if you're in San Francisco. It’s educational, fun, and perfect for curious minds of all ages!
Experiencia positiva: 13 family members had a long afternoon looking at everything. The people I was with found each exhibit interesting. Minus one star for some exhibits that have mostly pictures and words instead of actual specimens. Too expensive also, but I would still bring someone who hasn't been there.
Experiencia fantástica: It was a great experience for my family My 7 year old son enjoyed the Museum. The Dinosaur part was fun as well to let the kids play and learn about dinosaurs
Experiencia fantástica: 1st visit to SF and to this science museum. Very impressed - reminds me of a much smaller scale, more modern version of the London History Museum. This is, in no way, a zoo. yes there are some birds and butterflies; and yes there’s an aquarium but not like you’re probably expecting. Tons of underwater and deep sea organisms. The coral reef is incredibly beautiful and to my untrained eye, looks healthy and well cared for. This museum hosts a ton of artifacts. It also has an impressive mineral and stone area. the play area is wonderful. i highly recommend supporting this institution. if i lived here, id invest in a membership and go a couple of times a year (or more if hosting friends/family).
Experiencia positiva: We went on a Tuesday and there were more people than imagined. It is a very nice museum with many things to see and learn! We homeschooled and it was like a fieldtrip where we saw what we had studied in the book like fossils and plants. If you have medical make sure to ask for the museums for all, it gives you a great discount. There is also a beautiful scenery outside where you can rest and take pictures. The parking is on site too and is very affordable and convenient.
Experiencia negativa: Skip this place, not worth your money. We were bored and the planetarium thing made me want to vomit was boring too.
Experiencia fantástica: Rain forest was fantastic, many other exhibits to enjoy and learn from. Well worth the price of admission. Two seniors, a 13 year old and 32 year old all enjoyed the experience from the living roof to the California shoreline and everything in between.
Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely adore this museum! With a planetarium, jungle dome, and aquarium, it's a well-rounded museum highlighting biology and environmental science. I get motion sick so I didn't explore the planetarium all that much, but my friends loved it and made sure I would mention it in my review. They also offer a great date spot option on Thursdays (they may have changed the dates since I've been so please check with the website!) where the aquarium area is open after hours and you can get a cheeky drink while wandering around the lower aquarium space. It's a wonderful thing to do! It can be expensive, but I think it's worth the entry fee, and if you're a resident you can become a member which is definitely value for money.
Experiencia fantástica: We always have a fun time when we visit. We signed up for the membership last year. Our child loves the rainforest and the aquarium. Currently there is a dino exhibit that's really cute and interactive. Very fun family outing!
Experiencia fantástica: California Academy of Sciences – A Fascinating All-in-One Science Museum The California Academy of Sciences is one of the most impressive and family-friendly attractions in San Francisco. Located right in Golden Gate Park, it’s more than just a museum—it’s an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and indoor rainforest all under one living, green roof. Diverse Exhibits in One Place Every section is thoughtfully designed and hands-on. Highlights include: • The Rainforest Dome – A four-story tropical ecosystem with butterflies flying around you. • Steinhart Aquarium – Home to thousands of sea creatures, including jellyfish, sharks, and a living coral reef. • The Planetarium – Offers stunning shows on space and Earth science (get a free timed ticket early when you arrive). • Claude the Albino Alligator – A local celebrity in the swamp exhibit! ♻️ Green Building, Big Impact The living roof, covered in native plants and offering views of the park, is both beautiful and educational. The museum itself is LEED-certified and models sustainability in action. Great for Kids & Adults This is a perfect destination for families. Kids love the interactive displays, animals, and exhibits, but there’s enough science and storytelling to keep adults just as engaged. ️ Tips for Visiting • Arrive early to beat the crowds and get planetarium tickets. • Buy tickets online in advance to skip the line and sometimes save. • Budget at least 2–3 hours, more if you want to see everything. • NightLife Thursdays (21+) is a cool after-hours event with music, bars, and access to the exhibits—great for adults. Parking & Access There’s a parking garage nearby (Music Concourse Garage), and public transit options are convenient. It’s also an easy walk from other Golden Gate Park attractions. ⸻ Final Thoughts The California Academy of Sciences is a must-see in San Francisco—educational, inspiring, and fun for all ages. It’s the kind of place you can return to and still discover something new. A perfect blend of nature, science, and wonder.
Experiencia fantástica: what a cool spot! Loved the mix of aquarium, planetarium, and natural history all under one roof. The rainforest dome was my favorite—felt like a mini jungle adventure in the city. Definitely a must if you’re in San Francisco!
Experiencia fantástica: What an amazing science center! This place has something for everyone. My 8 year old loved interacting with all of the activities. We spent 5.5 hrs here without a single complaint. Lots to see and do. Hands down the best childrens museum I have been to.
Experiencia negativa: My family and I have been fortunate in our lives. Today we had a family event for Mother’s Day at Cal Academy. It’s one of the best places in the world. When we arrived I realized my wallet was still in my car. No worries! Apple Pay. Declined. Looking into it. The manager Stefanie acknowledged I did have enough on my card to get my 8 year old daughter inside. She looked up my account and confirmed that we’ve donated thousands of dollars to this beautiful place over the years. I asked her if that was enough to go inside with my daughter. Stefanie said, “absolutely not” Look… some of you are gonna say, “this is ostentatious” “rules are rules” or most likely that, “she’s just doing her job dude” I disagree. Read the moment. Read the room. And do the right thing. Please let in with my daughter at 9:39 in the morning. I’m pretty confident Stefanie didn’t think I’d call her out for this the way she spoke to me. But you were super rude for no reason. Customer experience is everything and we’re probably going to donate somewhere else moving forward...
Experiencia positiva: Planetarium, rain forest, and aquarium were stunning. They said that the planetarium movie is their original content produced by themself, and it should have been a hard work. Loads of scientific information, everything made with 3DCG, for more than twenty minutes. I wish the projecters were more brighter, and the end credits at the last part were more visible so that I can fully enjoy the creaters' work. I was surprized that the Rainforest was real. I thought the plants are fake, until I enter the humid warm dome. The birds and butterflies flying in the same atmosphere as me was an interesting experience. I loved the elevator going down into the aquarium. And the aquarium was pretty large that I got lost several times. I didn't expect seeing a huge live crocodile in a museum! Overall, this place have wide variety of exhibits and is definitely worth the price. p.s. I looooooved this cute smiling frog
Experiencia positiva: The California Academy of Sciences is an impressive place, though quite busy. There were many school groups during my visit, which made the atmosphere quite loud. The ticket cost $49, which felt a bit high, but the experience was worth it—especially the aquarium. I really enjoyed the coral reef and jellyfish exhibits. It might be more enjoyable in the afternoon when it’s hopefully less crowded.
Experiencia positiva: There's plenty to do from aquariums, Claude the albino alligator, the rainforest room and more. The staff is friendly and we'll definitely be going again.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing museum! One of the best aquarium I've seen in Europe and US. Penguins are so cute. I love them. The video shows in Planetarium are also fabulous. I spend hour in it. The Rainforest area is interesting, but Zoo Leipzig has a larger one. But still, the building and exhibition design are excellent. I suggest to take at least half a day here.
Experiencia positiva: The academy of sciences has some cool exhibitions, including a jungle biome and an aquarium in the basement level, and interesting architecture. However, some thigns seemed to be geared more towards children, and it took less time to go through every exhibition than I was hoping based on the cost of the entrance.
Experiencia fantástica: We visited the California Academy of Sciences, located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco recently and we had an incredible afternoon. There are so many outstanding exhibits, animals, and interactive displays that it would be impossible to list them all, but here are some that we really enjoyed: the spectacular Morrison Planetarium, Tusher African Hall, Steinhart Aquarium, Osher Rain Forest, Kimball Natural History Museum, Philippine Coral Reef, The Swamp, with Claude the albino alligator, and the Living Roof, a rolling green roof with spectacular views of Golden Gate Park. And believe it or not, there is still so much more to see and do at the California Academy of Sciences that we would recommend more than one visit. And don't forget the kids!
Experiencia fantástica: Super fun! I could imagine kids being able to spend a whole day here. So many activities and interests!! It is $55 per adult and I think roughly $30+ for kids, I'd see kids wanting to revisit so the membership would be more ideal.
Experiencia positiva: Worth visiting once, but not something you’d return to multiple times. Well-maintained and good for spending half a day, though the interactive zone only includes fossils and bones. Full review: It’s worth checking out if you’ve never been, but it’s not the kind of place you’d want to visit two or three times. They advertise an “interactive zone,” but it mainly consists of touching fossils, bones, or models of dead creatures — not live animals. It’s more interesting than a basic petting zoo, but it still falls short compared to larger or more famous zoos. That said, the facility is well-maintained and has enough to keep you occupied for half a day.
Experiencia fantástica: Love love loved the academy of sciences ever since I was a kid and I’m happy to share the experiences with my own little ones. Their dinosaur exhibit is totally worth it as there are some places just charging for dinosaurs. Aquariums are well kept and a great option if you like marine life and other animals. The rainforest still is well maintained but I didn’t notice as many butterflies on this trip as we saw previously. We were lucky to snag some tickets for their Academy Day which brought the price down to $5 per person or whatever you can donate and kids under 3 are free! Definitely will make the trip out here again!
Experiencia fantástica: The best museum I've ever been to. Also the priciest, but you get an aquarium, planetarium, butterfly pavilion, and natural history museum all in one. All of the exhibits were high-quality and updated. The butterfly pavilion in particular shocked me--I couldn't believe they let visitors get so close to them, and there were so many. Lots of programs running throughout the day as well.
Experiencia fantástica: Had a good time. Really enjoyed the planetarium. Though the price for admission is a little on the expensive side, i still recommended it.
Experiencia fantástica: What a fun, educational experience. Great for all ages! Hours of exploring and learning. This place is well worth a visit when in San Franscico. There was so much to see I'm sure we could again and find things we missed.
Experiencia fantástica: Today 04/05/25 we went to there , nice artificial & Dinosaur’s bones exhibition and best Unreal Ocean and many more , like fishes , small movies on big screens, restaurants and best part if you r sf resident n u have med-cal then ticket will be cheaper , plz check the end date of above Dino n unreal ocean as I hear it will close soon.
Experiencia fantástica: Best place in SF for: nature, museum, aquarium, no stress environment. Learn something new each time you go. You can spend hours here and still want to come back. Get yourself a family plus membership if you want to bring another family with you each time (kids are free). So 4 adults means your kid will be hosting a lot of free museum visits for others. This is good for people wanting to make friends in preschool and Kindergarten. Don’t pay for parking- walk across the baseball field and park for free. It’s a beautiful walk.
Experiencia fantástica: This is our second visit to Academy of Sciences in 10 years. It’s a great place to learn about the earth, nature and California. Although we were all adults it would be fantastic place to bring children, I’m sure they would send hours learning and playing. The planetarium is a great place to sit back, relax and take in the interesting fact of our universe. The Rainforest is very special and i could spend hours in it. They also have an Earthquake simulator which is a real eye opener and must do. I will say that it is worth taking a pack up as the food is VERY expensive here but the quality was good. We went during spring break and there were a lot of children, so might want to visit at term time.
Experiencia fantástica: This is a cute informative place! If you got EBT or Medi-Cal, you can get $5 a person. A huge exhibition for lives to support their local environment. We went on the weekend, so it was extremely hard to find parking. Furthermore, the parking garage costs you hourly, so use your time wisely.
Experiencia fantástica: Fun place for kids. Time: Full day of activity. First half many school students Lots to explore and a hands on experience for kids and family
Experiencia fantástica: One of our favorite places to go with our family. We have purchased a yearly pass so we were able to get in an hour earlier on Sundays. The new dinosaur exhibit was excellent. The kids loved in and digging for fossils. We plan to visit many times this year. A great place to explore with kids.
Experiencia fantástica: A truly impressive and diverse science museum located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. From the living rainforest dome and mesmerizing aquarium to the planetarium and natural history exhibits, everything is top-notch. It’s an educational and entertaining experience for all ages. The architecture is stunning, especially the living roof. Allocate at least half a day to explore thoroughly. A must-visit for anyone interested in science, nature, or simply a great day indoors.
Experiencia fantástica: It was very fun and had a lot of information. It easily took us 4 hours to go through the museum and even then we were starting to rush at the end. They give information and actually give the artifacts, which are interesting. They even have an indoor rainforest which was very cool to see the plants, actual birds, and butterflies flying around you! They even have an aquarium with tons of fishes and other aquatic creatures. Would definitely recommend for kids and adults.
Experiencia fantástica: Great museum for family fun! I recommend plan an all day stay it is a big place to discover
Experiencia positiva: Had a blast with the kiddos today! The experience was pretty good overall, and they had a super fun time. A little disappointed the glass wasn’t sparkling clean ✨, and the bathrooms could’ve used some freshening up . But hey, those are minor details, right? Still a great day! #familyfun #goodtimes
Experiencia fantástica: The California Academy of Science is the perfect place for families and field trips and offers an immersive exploration of the natural world being equal parts aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and natural history museum. The Steinhart aquarium is massive spanning the basement level and has a fascinating collection of aquatic fish, sharks and stingrays. Up top there is also a massive humid rainforest dome that spans two floors which is filled with butterflies, tropical birds and vibrant flora and fauna. While the admission is pricey (around $40 for adults), its perfect for a quick visit or a half day exploration. Location is right across the De Young Museum allowing you to squeeze in multiple attractions in the day.
Experiencia fantástica: A must for families from grandparents, parents, uncles aunties, children to up close & personal interaction with aquarium sea creatures dinosaurs wild taxidermy animals in rainforest swampy terrains all to sustain our earthly habitats forever clean pristine for a walden pond communion -- see you there.
Experiencia fantástica: The aquarium is awesome and Claude the albino aligator is pretty cool. Don’t miss the planetarium!
Experiencia fantástica: Great for date nite or a group. Activities, Planetarium, Butterfly Pavillion, and to top it off drinks. Now, how can you beat that!
Experiencia positiva: Excellent science museum, aquarium and zoo rolled into one. The biggest fault is that is expensive with no reciprocity. Otherwise, it has excellent exhibits for kids and the after hour events are really fun. I would definitely take the time to listen to the docent talks and activities as they really bring the science to life for the kids. Things like feeling ballen (whale teeth), touching feathers, explanations about how/why things work. Also if you have small kids make sure to take time to go to the indoor and outdoor playgrounds which are both excellent.
Experiencia fantástica: It was a very nice place to take the kids. Very friendly staff the food court was full of yummy variety of food. Try get their early because it gets packed. Overall a wonderful experience for both kids and adults.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place for the entire family. My kids loved everything from the fossils to the fish and butterflies. A great learning experience. I recommend the membership if you plan to visit multiple times a year. One thing I wasn't so fond of was the food. It's not the best and overpriced.
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful time spent here. So many things to see, my wife and I spent about 4 hours here.
Experiencia fantástica: The California Academy of Sciences, if you don't know or you couldn't deduce by the title, is a place to go and experience scientific and science-related topics, experiments, habitats, animals, and the like. Placed on top of a giant hill in Berkeley, CA, you get the best seat in the city as you peer over the landscape to add to the list of things to see and do. A good place for kids, mostly, but people of all ages can have a pretty good time here and be inspired to chase their interests in the scientific fields. There is a fee, but there are discounts to be qualified for. Also, there's paid parking, so make sure you plan for that. There are dozens of exhibits to peruse on the grounds, so plan for at least a stay of about 2 hours or so.
Experiencia fantástica: Always a delightful experience. It’s been several years and lots of new additions. Great place for kids. Aquarius awesome.
Experiencia fantástica: I had an amazing time here, especially since it was my first visit. I went on the Public holiday and there were tons of families with kids around. It was pretty crowded, but overall, it was a fantastic experience!
Experiencia fantástica: I convinced myself to finally visit the California Academy of Sciences after a very long time of not having been there since 1995. I had to see what improvements and changes were made there since then. It was so great to see the African Hall exhibit once again. That place brought back so many childhood memories for me. I loved seeing the lions and zebra displays again. It was also great to see the Pendulum exhibit once again. It was my first time seeing the Albino Alligator and the other exhibits that I had never seen before, such as the Hidden Wonders. I purchased a T-Rex and Brachiosaurs toys at the Swamp Shop. I plan to visit this museum soon so I can see more of the exhibits.
Experiencia fantástica: So much fun. This place has thought of everything to make your experience great. Lockers, restrooms on every floor and portable chargers so you don't have to be tied to an outlet. Amazing and fun great place to spend your day.
Experiencia fantástica: It’s like a mix between a museum and a zoo, which makes it more fun to visit! Really liked the guide explanations for Claude. You can definitely see all the main exhibits within a few hours, so don’t be afraid of going near the end of the day. We also went to the planetarium. It’s such great value that it’s included in the price! The chairs are a bit too comfy though
Experiencia fantástica: The California Academy of Sciences is an amazing place to visit, offering a little bit of everything—an impressive planetarium (included in the ticket price, but first come, first served), a rainforest exhibit, an aquarium, and a natural history museum. It's easy to spend several hours here, especially if you want to catch a planetarium show. While it's a great spot for families, it's definitely not just for kids—my husband and I had a fantastic time exploring all the exhibits. There’s also a cafeteria with several food options. The parking was a bit of a challenge to find on the street. If you park in the nearby garage, though, it's an easy walk to the entrance.
Experiencia positiva: Compared to the exploratorium, there’s a little less to do here, we came for lunar underground and were slightly disappointed in the exhibits and the amount of people there. LED lion show was cool, but less interaction and science than was fun for adults. Would not come again, there was a convenient Parking garage though.
Experiencia positiva: The Cal Academy used to be a tremendous resource, and as a scientist, I used to bring my students from UC Berkeley here every semester. Even coming two or three times per semester I never got tired of it. They had a whole exhibit of Gary Larson‘s Farside, cartoons, and another one of fascinating x-rays of different species of fish. But since then it has changed dramatically. When they remodeled, the emphasis was on style and not substance, and many of the most informative and hard hitting ex exhibits are gone. Now it is pretty and slick, but not as academic as it once was. I have many friends who work as curators here, and I have heard that things behind the scenes are not so good. For all the money that they spent to make everything look nice, there are structural issues behind the scenes. It’s disappointing that an organization that emphasizes science was so concerned with becoming a slick modern museum and losing its cachet as a hard hitting educational experience. Since the renovation, I have never brought my students back here again. And on top of it, it is extremely expensive, making it unaffordable for many people. This goes right down to the parking and concessions inside. Sad.
Experiencia fantástica: So much fun. Unlike museums where you just walk and read and observe and maybe have a guided tour, there are people with science background with roving displays explaining what they are showcasing and interact with you. This make the experience much more alive and living. And you maybe able to speak to some of the aquarium specialists, and have a new insight into the real method in keeping the vibrant displays alive and fascinating. It’s amazing for young children to elderly retirees. The interactive nature of the exhibits and all the living (and not so living) creatures are a marvel. Thank you everyone one who contributes to this great place.
Experiencia positiva: I really love going here! I would highly recommend you visit this museum. There are tons of exhibits to see. You can't see it all. I would return many times to see it all. A must see if you're not from here. Discount admission with EBT. M W
Experiencia fantástica: We visited the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park on December 29, and it was such a cool experience, especially for families with kids! The place was busy, but it was well worth it. This attraction was included in our CityPASS, so it was an easy choice, and we had a blast exploring everything it had to offer. One of the highlights was the earthquake simulator—it’s a fun and educational way to experience what an earthquake feels like! There’s also an albino crocodile (or maybe an alligator, I’m not sure), which was amazing to see up close. The academy also has a planetarium, but quick tip: be sure to make reservations for the planetarium shows—they fill up fast! The aquarium was another big hit, with beautiful marine life on display. They also offer animal shows, which are perfect for kids and keep them engaged and entertained. We were told by a local a few days later while walking around Pier 39 that the Academy hosts special activities on Thursday nights, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re planning another visit. There’s also a small cafeteria, so you can grab a bite to eat while you’re there. All in all, the California Academy of Sciences is a fantastic spot for families to spend the day. Highly recommend it!
Experiencia fantástica: Very lovely place. Exhibits are well done and very interesting. I enjoyed seeing swimming penguins rain forest with butterflies multitudes of aquariums on the lower level, experiencing SF earthquake, interesting movies in the planetarium If you are wondering what age group, I would say anyone between 2-102 will have lots of fun here. The ticket is around $55/pp. We came on a very busy day: Saturday after Christmas so there were lines but moved quickly and we got to see everything. Parking was hard to find so if you have the luxury of time, pick some non-busy random weekday. The only other solution to deal with lines on busy days is to extend the opening hours= for Academy to stay open until 10-11pm
Experiencia fantástica: The California Academy of Sciences offers an incredible experience for kids and the entire family. It’s a perfect blend of education and entertainment, with a variety of interactive activities to explore. From the awe-inspiring planetarium dome to guided walks in the outdoor areas, every corner offers something exciting and educational. It’s a place where curiosity thrives, making it a must-visit destination for families looking to learn, explore, and have fun together.
Experiencia fantástica: Went here for the Nightlife event and it was a blast. It starts at 6 PM and lasts for many hours. The planetarium was fun, zooming through the universe. The jungle zone has lots of animals and plants to check out. The DJ music was good, but I was too busy exploring exhibits to pay much attention.
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful time here. We came on black Friday, but it wasn't extremely crowded, but there were a few lines to wait for the exhibits. The rainforest dome and the ocean exhibits were our favorite. We went through each twice and the place has plenty of seating to just sit and enjoy. Buying tickets online earlier in the week was the way to go to avoid the entrance line.
Experiencia positiva: recently revisited the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park after not being back in San Francisco for over 10 years. I have fond memories of visiting this museum while I was stationed at Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, so I was excited to share it with my wife. Since my last visit, we've traveled all over the world and seen many incredible museums. Upon returning, I was a bit taken aback by the significant cost of a day ticket per person, and even more so by the minimal military discount offered—it only provided a few dollars off, which didn't amount to much savings. Despite this, we decided to go ahead due to my nostalgic connection. While the walkable dome is still incredible and offers a unique experience, I found that the rest of the museum didn't quite live up to my memories or the high admission price. The exhibits seemed less engaging, and overall, there was a feeling that something was lacking. For the cost of entry, I expected a more enriching and comprehensive experience. In summary, while the California Academy of Sciences holds a special place in my heart, I was somewhat disappointed with this visit. If you're considering going, it might be worth weighing the admission price against what you hope to get out of the experience. For me, the cost versus what you receive was the main letdown.
Experiencia fantástica: My daughter and I enjoyed the Academy immensely. We had three and a half hours to spend and it was just barely enough.
Experiencia fantástica: I LOVED visiting this place. This was a recommendation from my boyfriend's family since I'm not from here and there was so many cool things. Navigation was straightforward, ton of cheerful staff, so much sightseeing. My favorite part was going to the Africa section and going into this one place and seeing fish animals in this dark area. Throughout the whole trip, I was really thirsty and the only downside was this place only selling RAIN water. There were water fountains, though. I didn't feel good during the whole outing, but it was so worth thugging it out.
Experiencia positiva: This place was okay, but it was mostly open space. The aquarium was very crowded, so even if I want to take time and see the organisms, people just push each other so that they can see it for less than like 2 seconds. Many people took a lot of time to look at the alligator ( or crocodile, I don’t know which one it is). Until I see that most of the people are just talking to each other with strollers taking most of the space. When I looked at the African hall, I saw penguins in a small enclosure. The penguins had nothing to do other than bumping into the glass and hearing little kids scream. The planetarium show was ok, except they wanted every one to fill every single seat available. Most of the seats were occupied by (I think) students from a school, but I think they were too small to understand the info. This place would be better, only if they could manage people and if parents can control their kids.
Experiencia fantástica: I got 4 tickets with Museums for all and had an amazing experience with my family. It was easy to get our tickets in the booth and explore in the museum. We park for free close by and did a short walk. Its an incredible place for all ages. The planetarium is exciting and beautiful to be. Fun activities for toddlers and adults alike.
Experiencia fantástica: Very cool palce situated in the middle of a beautiful park. Amazing display (especially marine ecosystems), interesting gifts in the store, nice atmosphere. Great place to take your kids.
Experiencia fantástica: One of the coolest science museums I’ve been to! You get a combination of a natural history, aquarium, and a planetarium theater. I really love the Amazon rainforest, the Philippines coral reef, the new California: State of Nature, and the Living Roof with views of Golden Gate Park and Sutro Tower. I love that there are so many things to see in several hours. I recommend it for everyone!
Experiencia fantástica: The Steinhart Aquarium Did It For Me... As Well as the Osher Rainforest... I Wish I Had Experienced the Morrison Planetarium... Oh Yeah Theres An Earthquake Simulator... As An Adult Its Fun... It Must Be AMazing for the Kids...
Experiencia fantástica: This place is awesome!!! The rainforest is amazing, the staff are great - the exhibits and souvenirs are also great and well priced. We came when they had very limited food options - but across the road was the best hotdog stand so we had lunch in the park.
Experiencia fantástica: it has various area of interests. i like the forest/jungle and the aquarium. suitable for kids and adults. the shows are boring.
Experiencia fantástica: Had a great time at the California Academy of Sciences! The aquarium is amazing, with lots of sea life to see up close. The planetarium show was really cool and gave a nice break from walking around. Loved the Rainforest Dome too—super fun for families or anyone who enjoys learning about nature. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in San Francisco!
Experiencia fantástica: The academy has a huge variety of beautiful living exhibits as well as modern interactive displays. I particularly enjoyed the reefs and penguins. The docents are also very knowledgeable and friendly. The food court is undergoing renovations currently, but there is still hot food and sandwiches available at their outdoor patio. Great for all ages.
Experiencia fantástica: An interesting interactive place for family with children to visit and spend time together. They have many astonishing exhibitions and shows inside the museum that can be both enjoyable and captivated to children and adults. Places that are worth visiting from our trip: - Earthquake simulator - Osher rainforest - Reinhart aquarium - African taux museum - Gift shops Place that I haven’t visited due to age restrictions: - The planetarium (too bad because my kid isn’t 4 yet) Overall, it was a pleasant trip. My kid smiled and laughed the whole time.
Experiencia fantástica: The academy of sciences is a fantastic destination for all age groups. It allows you to explore different areas of the world such as the aquarium, rainforest, planetarium and natural history. The butterflies was the highlight of my trip as they land on you and will stay on you for a little bit.
Experiencia fantástica: This place was BEAUTIFUL! There was so much to see from penguins to Claude the Albino alligator to a tarantula. The space was huge with multiple floor and multiple gift shops as well.
Experiencia fantástica: Visited for the first time in maybe a decade for Nightlife, and splurged on Nightlife Plus. Definitely a bit pricey, but it includes quick entry for the Rainforest, Shakehouse, and Planetarium (a huge plus for great seats), two drink tickets with a separate bar and snacks (tot bar tonight), and a group tour of the back areas. Overall a great experience, definitely a good value when any ‘excess’ is going to such an awesome nonprofit.
Experiencia fantástica: Great interactive museum. There are many in San Francisco but this one is probably the best or top 3. It is located in a central area of golden gate park next to the de young museum, the botanical gardens, and the Japanese tea garden. Also in close proximity to the clement & Irving districts with lots of food and entertainment. The academy of science itself is a great place for children and adults to explore and play to their hearts and imaginations content. Attractions: Huge aquarium (which is think is better than the Monterey bay aquarium, and much closer if you are in the bay area). There's a realistic (and very warm) rainforest habitat. A planetarium auditorium with Hourly shows. Live penguins, which they feed daily. A living garden on the roof. A cool earthquake simulation exhibit. And much much more. On some Thursdays they have night events with music and alcoholic drinks for adults. Overall highly recommend this place, I've been coming here since I was a kid and now I bring my kids here.
Experiencia fantástica: A must-visit place in SF, good for kids, adults, science & nature lovers. You definitely need around 6 hours to get around the whole place, especially on crowded days.
Experiencia fantástica: This was BEYOND as amazing of an experience that we had imagined! Every floor is full of beauty, and amazement. I only saw the indoor rainforest and immediately wanted to go, but there's so much more!!! It's beautiful!
Experiencia fantástica: I recently had the most amazing experience at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. This incredible institution, a unique blend of a research institute and natural history museum, truly exceeded my expectations. The sheer scale of the museum, which houses over 46 million specimens, is impressive and offers a deep dive into the wonders of the natural world. From the breathtaking rainforest dome, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant ecosystem filled with butterflies and exotic birds, to the stunning Steinhart Aquarium showcasing marine life from around the globe, every exhibit is a journey of discovery. The planetarium show was another highlight, providing a mind-expanding exploration of the universe that left me in awe. What truly sets the California Academy of Sciences apart is its commitment to blending education with entertainment. The exhibits are interactive and engaging, making learning about science an enjoyable experience for all ages. The staff were also incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you're a science enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out, the California Academy of Sciences is a must-visit. It's a place where curiosity is sparked, and you leave with a greater appreciation for the natural world around us. I can't wait to visit again!
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing! went to the Thursday night event. Walked around the whole museum. Get there early if you would like to check out the planetarium because i tried to enter after the line was smaller and it closed at 7:30. It was very lively, with good music and drinks. Had a great time!
Experiencia fantástica: One of my favorite places to visit! I love their earthquake room so much. It is a very unique experience that also offers good background information. My favorite parts though have to be their albino alligator and the rainforest exhibit. Both are excellent and some of the best I have ever seen!
Experiencia fantástica: Worth it. Kids had a great time. The staff are polite and knowledgeable and happy to explain things. The planetarium is huge from the inside. The cafes offer a range of foods. Special thanks to Ben who spent close to an hour teaching my kids about animals and showing various exhibits hands on which they absolutely loved.
Experiencia fantástica: So worth it!! Definitely book into the planetarium. We booked like an hour before the show and it was free! The indoor butterfly/bird enclosure was worth the wait! The basement is one big aquarium (and one of the best I've ever been to) that you'll spend so much time in.
Experiencia positiva: The California Academy of Sciences is a must-visit for science lovers and families in San Francisco. Explore diverse ecosystems, from coral reefs to a recreated rainforest teeming with life. Learn about California's unique creatures and even experience a simulated earthquake! Don't miss the Morrison Planetarium's mind-blowing space shows or the stunning views from the living roof. With interactive exhibits and something for everyone, the California Academy of Sciences is a fun and educational adventure.
Experiencia fantástica: Can easily spend half of a day in here! There’s so much so see, they have shows, a cafe, outdoor seating and exploring area for the kids! It’s so beautiful and on Thursday’s it’s adult night, they serve adult drinks, play music and you can even dance :) great for family, dates and out of town folks.
Experiencia fantástica: This is a super fun place to visit for all ages, so educational, especially when learning about the different types of environments for animals, insects, and natural elements for humans and other beings. Life under the ocean is so interesting with the tanks. If you want to visit the rainforest it is a little humid just a heads up. When purchasing a ticket, If you have a EBT card show this and you will get a discounted ticket for $ 3.00 don't forget to bring your state id. May you enjoy this place!
Experiencia fantástica: It’s a very Beautiful place to visit especially if you have kids they get to learn a lot about the marine ecosystem everything is mentioned in depth about how it all works. Great Food, Great Ambiance and the coffee is really good too. The only things I didn’t like was very less parking spots for disabled people I had to park far away from the location I would highly recommend to visit as early as possible to avoid parking issues and large crowds inside. Rest highly recommended to visit especially if you’re a tourist visiting San Francisco. Right next to the museum there is a Shakespeare Park it’s very beautiful . You can spend some time there to relax.
Experiencia fantástica: Recently visited with my grandchildren, we enjoyed it so much. The quake room really gave this Michigan girl an idea of how an earthquake feels. So much to see, and great outdoor places to lunch and let the kiddos expend some energy!
Experiencia fantástica: If you’re into science and nature, the California Academy of Sciences is a must-visit! The T-Rex skeleton is a showstopper, and the aquarium is stunning. The rainforest dome is also a highlight that you won’t want to miss.
Experiencia fantástica: This is definitely worth visiting! Aside of the rainforest/aquarium exhibitions, highly recommend third floor's Naturalist center. You can touch, explore and interact with all the things placed in there! The planetarium is awesome too! I specifically like the live session that introduce our universe. It's beautiful and easy to get along with and definitely can light up your interest in exploring the universe ; )
Experiencia fantástica: Great for children! Even though, most of the stuff is desiccated or just a PPT presentation on a big screen still worth to come and learn. While we were there, there was an open concert which it made it even more special.
