We bought quite a few fish from them to drive back to Oklahoma (7hrs), they bagged each fish individually to ensure enough air for their survival. I'm so glad we found Houston and definitely will order and come back to them again. They have the most variety of gorgeous rare fish. Thank you for the superb experience, my boys really enjoyed it!

Healthy, vibrant bettas, guppies, tetras, angelfish—and even some rarer species like Taiwan Bee shrimp and bright yellow plecos that you don’t see every day. They also have beautifully planted tanks that gave me serious aquascaping inspiration. What really stood out to me was how clean and well-maintained everything was. No fishy smells, crystal-clear tanks, and clearly a well-designed filtration system. You can tell the owners care deeply about the animals and the hobby. Prices were fair—not rock-bottom cheap, but absolutely worth it for the quality of livestock and the level of service you get. They host a large selection of different species that all have a natural healthy look to them. They are very helpful and seemed to run a lot of specials.

We found a great assortment in stock, got shrimp and guppies and all the food and chemical treatments to ensure a safe introduction to our aquarium. They did a great job teaching how to properly acclimate and ensure a successful transition.

I have found Houston Aqua as the best place for quality fish at an affordable price - and after purchasing 30 fish over 2 years I have yet to have any die! Also the owner even followed up with me to ensure my satisfaction and I get alerts when new fish are coming. This is the opposite of two other fish stores I visited where I left my cell and email and never heard back. Houston Aqua overachieves in customer service and they are very knowledgeable on all equipment supplies and fish foods. They are the best in the business!

Fish selections are always new and restock weekly, you can always receive their store updates via their website and Facebook (not to mention they give out coupon regularly). Staffs are very informative, and they will spend time with you to tour and guide on how to care for certain type of fishes.

Experiencia fantástica: Went recently to pick up some neocardina shrimp and was a great experience. They stayed open passed hours to help accommodate us as we were coming from a ways away. We got the 5 plus one free and I'm happy to say they are all thriving. One slightly confusing thing is the three green jades I got are all pretty much pure black. I wonder if some got in the wrong tank or they develop the green later. Regardless I didn't dock any stars as time will tell and at the end of the day the shrimp are quite healthy as of now.

Experiencia negativa: From the moment I walked in to the store I couldn’t breathe from the terrible smell of mold, algae, and humidity. No ventilation in the entire store. The fish are in terrible conditions, tanks are disgustingly dirty, and fish are dead and dying. The fish that they do have are not in great shape and shouldn’t be sold to consumers. 0/10 experience. Stay far away from this store.

Experiencia negativa: TERRIBLE BETTA FISHES. Sad fishes that are about to pass and not happy as pictured. I bought an expensive betta fish using their "Premium" betta fish site Bettagem and the experience has been such an horrendous experience. From this site, I purchased a "premium" betta fish where the fish you see in listing is the fish you should be receiving. It was "on sale" from $45 to $35. I chose instore pick up and was very excited to see what other fishes they had in store as I wanted to pick up a few more fishes. To my surprise, the place and pictures you see of the happy beautiful betta fishes were not what you see in real life. The fishes were stored in bigger tanks than the small cups you see at Petco, but the fishes were in terrible conditions. There were several that I saw that were dead on the bottom of the tank, but became almost mummy like as they were composing at the bottom, which leads me to think they don't come to check on the fishes regularly to even take them out (even after they die). After seeing this, I just decided to pick up my fish. The guy went to the back to pick up my fish and handed to me. The fish i got was very sad and droopy. I questioned that if this was the fish I ordered, he simply said yes it is. The fish was packaged in a plastic bag and a yellow drop was used (to reduce stress) so it was hard to really tell if it was correct fish. The fish I received was really sad and didn't swim much and colors was very dull. FINS were torned and the Dumbo ear was also torn. I really thought it was due to stress of the situation and that he would improved once I got him home to my 5G tank at home. It's been about 5 days now and my fish has improved to be happier but it is clearly not the fish I ordered. I contacted chat support and he said it was my job to make sure I got the correct fish. How should I know exactly what I got? A lot of these fishes look alike and as being not an expert, I wasn't 100% sure and did question at pickup. However, they are not accepting any responsibility for this wrong doing. I DO NOT want my money back but want to warn everyone about getting their fishes here. You would think you are getting a better happier betta fish but in truth, my fishes that I got from the regular PETCO store for 1/3 of the price is happier and in better condition. Buyer Beware. Look at the pictures here and you can judge for yourself. This IS NOT the fish pictured as purchased.

I had been looking for the right fahaka puffer for years and finally I found him it’s so exciting to have finally got one not only that the knowledge I gained while in the store about care and feeding is amazing. The best experience I’ve I ever had in a fish store in Houston and I’ve been going to fish stores for over 15 years.

Experiencia fantástica: I just brought home the most beautiful baby samurai betta from Houston Aqua. He now lives happily in an established, heavily planted 10g. He's super healthy, very curious, and acclimated easily. The staff were very friendly and checkout was easy and fast. They were doing water changes when we went in. I cannot get over the price for the betta - I would have paid twice as much for a similar specimen at another store. Their focus seems to be bettas, but they had an assortment of other freshwater fish. They had the only betta sorority tank I've ever seen where the girls hadn't picked each other apart. They had good variety of bettas - plakat, veiltail, dumbo ear etc. They had ornamental shrimp and popular plants as well. I would absolutely recommend Houston Aqua, especially if you're looking for a betta buddy.

Experiencia negativa: I was around the corner decided to visit Houston Aqua, and it was an incredibly disappointing and concerning experience. From the moment I walked in, I was hit with a thick, moldy smell that made it difficult to breathe, almost as if there was no ventilation. The place had no AC – it was stifling, making it unbearable to stay inside for more than a few minutes without feeling sick. The condition of the fish was just as troubling. Tanks were overcrowded, and many fish looked stressed, unfed, and poorly cared for. Even worse, I noticed several dead fish floating in the tanks, which speaks volumes about the level of neglect here. It’s heartbreaking and disturbing to see animals in such poor conditions. The whole environment felt unclean and neglected, with no attention to proper upkeep or care. I would never give my money to a place that treats their animals and customers so poorly. If you’re looking for a reliable and healthy environment to buy fish, I strongly recommend avoiding this store. Houston Aqua is unfortunately, a business that does not prioritize the well-being of its animals or the comfort of its customers.

Experiencia fantástica: Lovely little tropical fish store with so many beautiful bettas. I bought a black/blue alien betta (I named him Ripley), four glo danios and two snails and the entire purchase was very reasonably priced (~$50-60). The betta is a funny little dude full of personality already and the danios have helped the tetras in my community tank become more social -- plus they're so active and fun to watch, especially at night when the light fades into blue. Bonus points because they brought my boyfriend's grandma a chair from the back so she could rest up front while I picked out my new aquatic friends. 10/10 and will definitely make the 40 min drive again the next time I need fish/snails/supplies that I don't want to purchase online. Edit: Adding an additional video of the magenta snail because he's a weird little guy in the best possible way.

I did ordered the blue diamond discus but the seller informed me that it was not healthy enough to ship so he did contact me for a replacement and I am very happy with the decision the seller have made. I did order two electric blue ram and wow they’re beautiful in person with the right care. Thank you very much!!!!

My little yellow guy had some minor fin damage and the associate helped me learn how to treat it and what products to use- he's already looking better! The fish are active and have personality like no other. Everyone I've met who works there are kind and willing to answer any questions we had! We also got plants, snails and hardscape I even ended up buying a tank as well. Everything has been awesome. They also stress if we need any help with anything they are available by phone. I think the prices are extremely fair as well! I'm around 45 minutes from them but the trip is more than worth it. 10 Stars if I could!
