Fantastic experience: Great place to get your aquarium and .The are very healthy

Fantastic experience: Scaling down a bit in recent years it seems. Refering to displays. I used to come just to see the 2 gaint freshwater tanks. Probably 800 gallons each filled with amazon fish. They have since taken those favorite tanks of mine down. But still the best fish store in the state. They regularly carry the harder to find fish. Like the coveted red headed geophagus. They've been around a long time too hope they stay put. Always enjoy a visit here.

Positive experience: Always enjoy going here. Last time i was before my move to Florida 4 years ago. Came back and it's cleaner and finished. Great selection of healthy fish. Unhealthy fish are all properly quarantined. I went from 18 55 gal tanks years and years ago. To, 3 4' × 6" vases for betta fish. The "male" betta fish selection is larger than most stores but not the largest out there. The female selection is non existent. ...... Thought about 3 stars. Just cuz the lady who helped me the last two times was really awkward. Kinda mean in her responses. Defiantly not as bubbley as everyone else who was being helped. But has nothing to do with the store so 4 stars it is.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, tons of fish and other aquatic animals. All the tanks were clean, fish looked healthy. Went home with two Narite snails that are doing good and looking very healthy.

Negative experience: No one gives you the time to talk about what you have going on with your aquarium at home. Spent $55 on fish and they didn't even survive the night.

Fantastic experience: No doubt biggest selection of freshwater fish in the area. Good selection of saltwater fish but very pricey, they have recently downsized their saltwater fish numbers. There is also a gigantic monstera plant in the lobby that occasionally they cut leaves off and sell. I haven't bought one because they're $75 a leaf LOL however, if you're looking to propagate one, this would probably be the way to go. Also, can usually get live Brine shrimp here, here but it's hit and miss. I also come here for RO water at a dollar a gallon for fresh

Positive experience: Pretty good store, prices are a bit steep especially for more common fish species. Their shrimp prices are rough too

Fantastic experience: This is the most beautiful store I've ever seen immediately when you walk in the front door there is a giant koi pond and live plants growing all over the place trailing the walls and the leaves get bigger it's absolutely gorgeous! Then you go inside and find so many different fish varieties, shrimp, tiny little crabs, all different kind of water stabilizers, different aquariums, substrates, food, everything you can imagine. Sales person at the front was very knowledgeable about African dwarf frogs and gave me a lot of helpful advice. I would recommend this to anybody looking to start an aquarium or to enhance the aquarium that they have!!

Negative experience: ⚠️Avoid⚠️ I visited this store last week. I drove from Madison to visit this store specifically, and I was extremely disappointed in what I found when I arrived. Despite having a large selection of merchandise, and plentiful staff, this store was VERY FAR from ideal. Debris in many places all over the floor, and there was a fairly unpleasant odor lingering about. While I was browsing I spotted over 9 dead fish within tanks still hosting livestock. Keep in mind, I wasn’t halfway around when I stopped counting. Quite a few of the tanks hosting livestock could have been much cleaner. A couple were so filthy they were hard to see through one wall of glass let alone through two. Next, When I asked the gentleman at the counter for help selecting a fish that was within my price range and the variant I was after, I was told the name of what to look for. That was it!!!! This man wasn’t going to accompany me to the tank and get the fish out to be purchased, instead I wandered around in hopes of finding some appropriate help and found two very busy staff members that clearly didn’t have the time to assist me while the other three employees sat at the counter twiddling their thumbs. Too bad they weren’t cleaning tanks or the floor……. At least you could say you were trying. As someone who hoped for so much more from this store, I urge those seeking an amazing fish supply store to avoid this merchant at all costs. When I left, I was glad I didn’t purchase any fish from here. They would likely be in poor health with this low level of care. It’s very unprofessional and irresponsible to care for any living thing this way. So I will not return, nor will I recommend this business to others. There is a store just up the road from this location (not associated) that was quite the opposite and I left a happy customer. Edit: Tues 5/6 I received a response that felt insincere in regards to my review. So I say to that response , Let’s hope that you improve your store in every area possible. Especially with your lazy, careless staff and or lazy, careless management team. May you learn and move forward swiftly.

Negative experience: We drove 45 minutes to the fish store to find a beautiful Angelfish. It was normal until they put it in the bag, it became belly up. I was told by several workers that the fish was very stressed out and it should recover. As we got home fish was still belly up in our tank, we did everything and the angelfish didn’t move once, just stood at the top of our tank belly up. We called the store spoke to a lady who told me that it might be bloated and told me to wait a week to see how the fish was doing. 2 hours later fish died. Kinda disappointed with them, we shopped here for years and had no problems until now. Unfortunate.

Fantastic experience: I bought a small koi to put with my single goldfish and the goldfish was not happy having him in the tank and they were will to let me return the koi for a full refund. They are very informative and have great customer service and all the fish are top quality.

Fantastic experience: There aren't too many fish stores like this around any more. They have an incredible selection of fish. I went in looking for a 33 gallon long tank but didn't see any for sale so I asked an employee who was very helpful and grabbed two of them from the back. It definitely made my trip to Milwaukee worth it because the tanks were the whole reason I went. Will shop there again.

I followed her instructions and my tank and frag tank are better than ever. Jess also helped me with ideas for a shrimp tank I’m going to be creating. Negative experience: Some of the most disrespectful and rude employees I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. A few coworkers and i came here to purchase an Axolotl and everything it needs to thrive for our business, and all of our questions about it seemed to annoy the workers. No one was one the same page, when i would try to ask for help we were ignored, they all had different ways they suggested on how to care for the animal that went against other workers’ opinions, or they just told they didn’t know and walked away. One of the elderly female workers stopped and said ‘’ The man over there actually has a VALUABLE question’’ right in front of our faces. Not only this, but she hovered around us the entire time correcting her coworkers AND US. We were just trying to get as much knowledge as possible to properly care for the animal and not only were we ignored, they overcharged us for the equipment we bought and the axolotl itself as they didn’t apply the discount that is listed online and well called ahead about. The disrespect was completely unnecessary and unwarranted. The fish themselves are beautiful, but as soon as we pick up our animal, we will never make the mistake of coming back again. The only kind worker was a younger girl who they said was new to their team. If you want people to disrespect you and talk down to you to their coworkers then this is the place to go. If i could give this place zero stars, I would.

Fantastic experience: This place has a lot to offer fish wise. Ive had a fish tank for 15+ years and just decided to check this place out. Super clean and tons of variety. I spent a while looking at the array of fish. Izzy helped me and was super knowledgeable. You can tell she cares about the fish and the customers. Super fun, personable and respectful! Will be back!

Fantastic experience: The workers were so helpful and knowledgeable. To my small children, we might as well have been at the Shedd Aquarium. Very cool place.

Negative experience: For the saltwater section: definitely seen a decline the past 5 months in coral variety and quality as well as fish variety. Definitely highest prices around Milwaukee. They say it is because of their quarantine process but I have stocked my own tank from fish at several different stores and have not seen the difference I am paying in price. Best place for aquatic supplies around but if you want coral that are healthy and want a good variety for a good price there are other options.

Fantastic experience: The most knowledgeable place in the area. My kids really wanted an axolotl as a pet. The staff explained what it takes to get ready for one and the fact that many people bore of them after about four months. I appreciated the detailed information and honesty. Even though we didn’t buy any fish on our last visit, it was a great activity to do with the kids.

Fantastic experience: Awesome fish store. This is not your commercial big box pet store, these are fish people. It's what they do and what they love. Extensive knowledge of all things fish. Always willing to answer questions, give advice and tips, and the selection is amazing. Well over 100 aquariums of aquatic animals to choose from as well as supplies, decorations, chemicals and equipment for maintenance. If you are an aquatic enthusiast, you definitely need to stop by.

Fantastic experience: An absolutely amazing fish store! I was very impressed with the selection of freshwater fish they had available. Almost everything seemed to be in stock and I visited on a Sunday! Not to mention out of all the tanks of fish they had I was only able to locate a single dead fish which is very impressive considering the thousands of fish they had in stock! Also the live aquarium plant selection is second to none! I purchased a Discus and had a few questions that they were more than willing to answer. I had an approximately 4 hour drive home and they not only double bagged it but provided me with a styrofoam cooler as well. It's a good thing I live so far away or I would be broke! I can't say enough good things about my experience! My Discus is happy and healthy. Not to mention the 5 day live guarantee! Any guarantee more than 24 hours is unheard of for a privately owned pet store! Note: The photos are of the Discus I purchased but in my personal aquarium.

Fantastic experience: Biggest selection in the area. Staff is generally pretty knowledgeable, and they are all really friendly and interested in helping customers. I also like that they will buy from local amateur breeders. They also often have live black worms available which is rare.

Fantastic experience: I stopped by to look around on my vacation and this place was phenomenal. Ive never seen so many people in a fish store at once. It felt like going to mall. This place feels like the equivalent of a superfied version of a local fish store. They had a strong selection of pond fish/supplies as well. I wish I took more pictures and looked around more.

Fantastic experience: I've been a long time patron of Aquatics unlimited and I had my best customer service experience this past week. Overall every experience is great but this one left me with reassurance and guidance. I came in with a water sample of my Axolotl tank that I suspected has a common fungal infection. Jessie was an incredible resource, she was very understanding and explained the further steps we can take to treat my axolotl and to restore the nitrate balance in my tank. She was calm; despite my worry for my guy's health and was incredibly knowledgeable.

Negative experience: I’ve been shopping here for years, they take amazing care of their tropical fish and I’ve gotten many different species from them that have thrived. I am mortified whenever I see their bettas. 95% of the bettas are sick. Shredded fins, stiff rot, fin rot, swim bladder dysfunction. Last time I was there, there was a dead one. Today one was gasping its last breaths. The vases are gross. I had an open hospital tank so I took one of them to see if I can help it. It has virtually no fins left and is floating on its side, totally unable to swim. I tested the water it came in and it was the highest level of nitrites that my test reads with no ammonia. Which means, the water in the vase wasn’t changed in so long that all the ammonia converted to nitrite. You cannot tell me that, with how knowledgeable they are about other kinds of fish, they can’t treat the bettas better. They should be in treatment if they are sick and they should get their water changed AT LEAST 2 times a week. If they can’t do the absolute bare minimum for bettas, they need to stop selling them because it’s just plain cruel. If the rest of their fish was kept the way their bettas, no one would be patronizing this store.

Negative experience: Super cool store. Nice place to go see a large variety, but all the fish I have purchased have died within 2 weeks. A couple of them were pretty expensive too. All my other ones that were purchased elsewhere are just fine. I’ll still go for some things but I won’t buy the fish anymore

Positive experience: I recently got a betta from here and he is very healthy. I would give 5 stars but I didn’t since they wrote my info down so when they got a fish they would call me but when I called them they told me they sold their last few the day prior and I never got a call back

Fantastic experience: Honestly, this is probably the best fish store ive ever been to. All the tanks, even the small ones are well maintained and the fish all look healthy. They also always have exactly what im looking for, for a fair price! I was surprised because smaller businesses usually have higher markups than chains. I dont think ill shop anywhere else in milwaukee for my aquatics supplies even tho i get a discount at work. Im surprised to see people complaining about the mark ups. Petco and petsmart are more than double the price for some things … like the sponge filter i got was $7.99 with a 10.99 air pump, but one at petsmart of the same size was 10.99, and the pump was $18. Also, idk why people are saying the staff is rude. I came for the first time around close and i was politely given plants like 10 minutes before they closed, which usually irritates most people. They also have a very diverse selection of plants and rocks! Pretty much anything youd need and more.

Positive experience: I bought fish from here over a year ago. My fish were healthy and happy. I then bought snails from here after my tank was established for months. My tank was in amazing shape until I introduced the snails. My tank got so filthy and it became difficult to keep clean. I then noticed parasites in the tank. One by one the snails died, and now my fish are sick. I also find it difficult to get help when I visit the store, and I also feel rushed by employees. It is a beautiful store, but my experience hasn't aligned with the vibe the store is trying to create. I would like to note that I have visited the store while it was both busy and slow.

Negative experience: I've had about enough of this store. I used to only go there for aquarium emergencies, but now I won't even give them that. The most rude, passive aggressive staff I've ever met. If I wanted to be treated this way, I'd go to a Buffalo Wild Wings. INSANE markups on everything. I've literally seen them full -on roast kids who just have questions about their aquarium. A Fluval 45g CO2 kit goes for $49.99 at any other aquatics store in the area, MAYBE $54.99. There, it was labeled at $68.99. The only time they were remotely pleasant to me is when I bought two ocellaris clowns there 4 years ago; the total came out to $330, and this was well before I realized how insane that was. Aquariums are supposed to be a positive, communal hobby; there's plenty of other fish stores in the area that will actually (positively) engage with you, and be excited to discuss aquatics with you.

Fantastic experience: I love this store. The fish are beautiful and well taken care off, and the staff are informative. If you have questions, they never rush you and try their best to make suggestions. In the summer, they have a beautiful outdoor selection of fish and live pants.

Fantastic experience: Seriously the best fish shop I've been to, it's a 45 minute drive from my house but so worth it. They've been a huge help with our axolotls too (which we got from them and they are thriving!) We recently had baby axolotls and they are very high maitnence but this place is always happy to help us come up with ideas for raising them properly and helping us learn what they need to be happy. I seriously can't say enough good things about them, the amount of support they provide for the hobby/our pets is immeasurable

Negative experience: I went in a month or so ago to give up my adult male axolotl. Hardest decision I had to make but he was originally bullying the one I had in the tank so I decided to rehome him after having him for a strong year and a half. I asked a gentlemen if I could be updated on him and to give me a call when I know he’s found a good family. When I told him this he laughed at me thinking I was crazy for asking that but took my information? Why would u laugh at someone who asked to be updated on their pet they have to rehome like that? I found nothing funny and was quite disappointed and still never received a call if or if he didn’t find a home yet. U cannot expect me to ever go back there again. They also don’t have large axolotls anymore like they used to last year because they are having trouble finding a breeder…. So all they carry are babies which is a bore… and quite frankly they are harder to care for then healthy adults brought in. Service definitely could have been better instead of laughing at me for asking to be updated about MY pet I had to rehome!

Fantastic experience: I won’t go anywhere else for my fish needs. 95% of the plants i’ve gotten from here are doing great, and all the fish I have gotten are healthy and happy. only con is some things are a little pricy and you can get them elsewhere for cheaper (like shrimp) but then again, sometimes it’s the opposite. the employees are always awesome and super helpful & i’m always impressed with how knowledgeable all of them are. you can tell they actually care about the industry

Fantastic experience: Jessie helped my girlfriend and I get our first pets together. Three zebra danios! We didn't know the most about fish but she helped us through the whole process of setting up a tank and getting the fish situated. Amazing experience!

"I walked around and no one approached to help me" "I stared at an employee blankly from 5ft away and they never offered to help me" there is a giant lit up sign that says HELP DESK, go up to it and speak! ask for help. those employees are at the desk waiting for someone to ask for help or check someone out or busy doing tasks (that they can pause to help if when u ASK for it) not walking around looking for you. also, they provide extensive personal assistance and advice, usually taking at least 20mins to talk to u and help u. if u want quick service go to PetSmart, if you want detailed personal assistance and knowledge come here.

Fantastic experience: Update all our 19 fish are still doing great thanks for your help, knowledge n support. We've had the fish in the two 10 gallon tanks since 9/14/23 and the fish in the 20 gallon tank since 9/28/23 Today I added 11 more fish. I found out that four were fighters so I moved them from the 20 to a 10 gallon, then I put the four other fish I originally split between the two ten gallon together. Then I put the new 11 in the 20 gallon. Due to all their help and knowledge all looks well so far. On Sept 14 I bought 8 fish and they're still doing great. The gentleman I was working with was great. I believe his name was Brian. Very knowledgeable and patient. I've suffered a few head injuries in the last year so my memory and coordination is really bad and he stayed professional the whole time. Thank you. I'll be back soon to get more fish. This is my favorite place to get fish. However I wish parents would watch their kids. Why let them run around, being loud and sticking their hands in the tanks and you the fish. Do the parents not realize that can kill them. O and I saw some crazy women buying cat fish from here and bragging how she was just buying them to eat them. Why not get them from a place that actually sells them to eat. (I haven't been there in about two years however these were the things I saw the last time. I'll be going back cause the service is great as well as prices, great professional and knowledgeable staff. Store is cleaned and organized. I got my tanks etc elsewhere

Fantastic experience: Family used to use thus as their main place when adding fish to our 105gal tank. They were always knowledgeable & helpful. Now 20yrs later I got a tank and was hoping they still had they same quality. And they do!!!

Fantastic experience: This place is AMAZING! I've never seen a fish shop with such variety. I was just visiting from out-of-town so I was sad not to be able to buy any cool fish but they do ship so I got the info on that and noted the fish I can't get around me at home (Colorado). The store was clean and all the tanks were clean, the fish looked healthy and well cared for. And the variety of plants was as impressive as the fish. Aquatics Unlimited is awesome. I'm a fan.

Positive experience: Lack of decent workers. Couldn't help me for s. Overcharged on by $6 per fish on the Endlers that I didn't realize because one can not see what is being charged. I can get the same Endlers at Petco for around $3 per and the Endlers the site said they had stocked, were not stocked. I wanted more than fish, but the person I was dealing with seemed to be having a bad day, and I just skipped getting the plants I wanted and needed. I wanted to discuss feeding appropriate foods for certain fish, but I felt more put off and didnt feel like one of them could answer any questions. Petco has better customer service and more knowledgeable staff. It is a nice-looking store, tanks kept well, but has horrible customer service. I will be ordering plants online from a different retailer, and I will stick with getting fish from Tristans in Evansville or Big Kahuna in Madison.

Negative experience: While there is a good selection and tanks are clean - customer service is horrible! I was there to purchase a Beta fish for my daughter and wanted to know if there were other fish I could add. Kaitlyn helped me and her whole vibe was bad. Her attitude was a complete turn off so i asked a different employee and she offered ones i would like. When a 3rd employee was going to get me the fish...Kaitlyn was helping another customer and decided to yell over she doesnt recommended that type. I explained her co worker said it was fine. She tried to agrue so i said to forget it. At the counter as i was getting the beta- she proceeded to tell the employee she told me she wasnt recommending those fish- pretty much i shouldnt get them. Then as he is talking came back and asked if i was buying them. All this over so fish! I asked for her name - she then asked if there was a problem. I told her was it was. She didnt seem concerned but apologized. Management needs to let the employees know -they are there for advice. That doesnt mean i have to follow it. Nor do u continuously question my purchase. I will find another store to buy fish from. Customer service everything. They just lost my 700 sale since i was wanting to purchase much bigger setup.

Fantastic experience: I've been shopping here since 2004. It is clean and well cared for. The staff are so helpful and knowledgeable. The outside pond addition was a fresh interesting addition added two years ago. Starting a new saltwater tank soon. Just researching this visit but definitely will be returning. Especially for the selection of sea plants available!!! Such a friendly fish in that tank!! Love love love it!!! Even if a small trip with the kids it really does excite the mind. Highly recommend for anyone of any age!

Negative experience: let me be clear I love the store overall but it's not right if I purchase something for 140 bucks and it's broken. out of the box. how dare you not give back a full refund if you don't have any replacements in stock? and you charge 30% restocking fee. your not restocking it it's broken.. yall won't be getting any of service after this return

Fantastic experience: Very helpful and great selection. I started a new 20 gallon tank and purchased some neon tetras from another store but they died in the first day. I was then educated at Aquatics Unlimted that I shouldn't have mixed in the water from the other stores tank. So I purchased some different fish and 3 days later, they are doing well. Thanks and I'll definitely be back for more in the future.

Fantastic experience: Awesome store, largest aquatic store I've ever been to. You won't find dog food here or hamsters. This place is THE place for fish. Friendly staff, great selections, and many price ranges.

Fantastic experience: I wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff is very knowledgeable. It is well worth the 25 minute trip to get there. Go to a box store and you're likely to get very inferior equipment and very little knowledgeable help. The selection here is massive. Both fresh and saltwater fish and plants.

Fantastic experience: We were from out of state and looked up some fish stores. Based off the photos, we decided to check out Aquatics Unlimited. Staff were so friendly. The store was amazing and nothing like the ones up here in MN. We will be sure to stop again when we are in town. We also asked about online orders, and were directed that we could call and speak with the guy that handles them, so we might check that out. Lots to look at!

Negative experience: Very poor customer service. It so hard to get any type of help here. Tried to get help and every single worker did not acknowledge Me. One just walk in front of me than walks away . Two other worker were talking to each other stares at me and than walks away . What a joke, this place has very good selection of equipment and fish but man im never coming here again. Im all about supporting local store but i rather just order online.

Positive experience: Excellent place. Great staff. Great variety of fish well quality store. Unfortunately most of there items are way overpriced. As well saw some dead fish lying in some of tanks.
