Experiencia fantástica: Awesome shop; I purchased an Achilles from them, which is probably the most promising Achilles tang I've ever seen in any shop. It's in great health, with no issues, and has been eating since day one. Everyone was super forthcoming with the health and history of every fish they had up for sale. I've been on the hunt for this tang and can say that out of a dozen or so that I have seen this is the only one i felt comfortable purchasing and taking a chance on. This shop knows what they need to put into these fish and executes it perfectly.

My family decided to dedicate a larger tank to him. The members at House of Fins couldn’t have been more cooperative and compassionate towards us. There are so many I couldn’t possibly add everyone, but here is just a few Jason, Ryan, Pete, Dan, Frank, John, Joe, Kevin F. And many others has helped us tremendously. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of both fresh and salt water aquariums. Even though I am a total novice, I never felt that I was being talked down to. I highly recommend this one-of-a-kind store whether you're interested in tropical fish, coral, water plants, water filtration, or tank maintenance. You will not be disappointed.

Experiencia negativa: I called to ask if they had any royal grammas. The guy checked and said he had one, but thought he had two. I got there and one of them was getting eaten alive in the tank and the other had major damage to its tail. I drove an hour through major traffic to get there. All of their other fish were either too large or too small….which I thought was weird but actually true…either very small or very large. I felt that the employees did not attend to me at all after I mentioned that I had been looking for a royal gramma…they ignored me actually. Their tanks were crystal clear and I appreciated that. Their prices are higher than any others tier store around. Two stars give due to how clean their tanks were.

Large selection of saltwater fish and corals for the saltwater enthusiasts. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The only downside I found was the price. This is a pricey aquarium shop!

Experiencia negativa: As a business owner, I know how it feels to see a bad review but due to my recent experience, it’s unavoidable. I’ve been going there for over 30 years and knowing that their prices are completely out of line, I still have gone there. I purchased live rock there for $25.00 per pound, which is outrageous but couldn’t be bothered ordering it online. Today I broke the tank down and brought back the rock knowing that I would get much less for a credit. They gave me $1.00 per pound. It wasn’t even worth my time, not to mention gas, as I drive there, frequently from NY. How insulting!! Not to mention purchasing a replacement blade for $15.00 and saw it on Amazon for $3.50. Needless to say, after 30 years, I will never, ever go back! I have spent countless thousands of dollars there over the years and would’ve spent another thousand resetting up the tank, at least. I wish them good luck!

Experiencia negativa: The store is clean and has very helpful employees that are patient with you. They have a good selection of marine and freshwater animals and plants that are visibly healthy and well fed. I live in NYC and I’ve went to a lot of fish stores there but personally I think that this store has the healthiest fish I’ve seen. The store also has a lot of good lights, pumps, etc that the other stores didn’t. However, the reason my review is 2 stars is because of their prices. I completely understand the reasoning behind the high prices on their animals but I don’t get why the prices on dry and frozen goods are so high as well. For example, I was told a pack of rods food is $50 and a medium bottle of Seachem prime is $20 which is just insane to me because they literally cost half the price online. These things are easily obtainable online or at other fish/pet stores. I would also avoid buying invertebrates here. They are also pretty pricey although not to the extent of what I said above. They are well kept but inverts don’t live a very long life and need to be replaced every now and then. There are cheaper and more practical alternatives. I get the idea of supporting local businesses but when the prices on dry goods are double the price; that’s just simply not worth the trip.

Experiencia negativa: Very helpful people. But watch you wallets.!! I've been okay for the most part knowing they where a bit pricey but today I went to by a simple air pump for my stone bubbler. They wanted $150!! I found the same air pump for $41 dollars with free one day delivery on Amazon. I did show them. What made me angry is how they can look at you with a straight face and not know its wrong to price gauge this much. I mean I would have purchased it at $100 come on guys this is a little out of control. I have always known these folks where over the top pricey but I dealt with it because of the good service today they pushed the envelope to far.

Experiencia negativa: I am surprised that I have to make this review. However, I have spent days emailing, texting, and calling House of Fins. I made a small purchase ($87 with shipping), paid through PayPal on July 10th, 2023. I received my PayPal receipt with all information. I never heard a confirmation of my order, delivery status, notification of a problem...it was if I didn't exist. I was to receive my product in 2-3 days. My communications have remained unanswered...no return call, text or email. Hopefully PayPal will reimburse me and perhaps House of Fins will respond to their communications. I never had an unpleasant communication..I have received zero communications. .

They didn’t have the fish species I wanted so they offered to try and get them in and call me when they arrived. Very helpful! I will come back again.

Experiencia fantástica: I have been with House of Fins for more than 10 years and only have good things to say about them. The service is great and the guys are very responsible about their job. They set up 160 gallon salt water gallon tank at my place and it looks amazing. The guys from the House of Fins are always on top of the things, taking good care of my tank and making sure it is as always clean and functioning. I highly recommend the House of Fins to anyone looking for professional tank set up and a good care. These guys really know what you want and they deliver.

But the super start during this whole issue is Kevin he is awesome he actually took the time to make us understand what is going on in the tank and what needs to be done. Experiencia negativa: STAY AWAY from House of Fins! I purchased an aquarium from them, but it arrived completely damaged. The tank was cracked, the glass was shattered, and the water was leaking out. It was a complete disaster and they refused to take responsibility or offer any assistance to resolve the issue. It's beyond disappointing that a company would be so careless and negligent, especially when it comes to shipping fragile items like aquariums. They made the process of getting help extremely frustrating and time-consuming. I cannot express how disappointed I am with House of Fins I was beyond upset. They were unhelpful and dismissive. It's clear that they don't value their customers or their reputation, and that they have no interest in providing quality service. I strongly advise against shopping at House of Fins. They have shown a complete disregard for their customers and have provided a terrible customer experience. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment and shop elsewhere for your aquarium needs.

Experiencia fantástica: I can't say enough good things about the House of Fins. Yes, the prices are higher than you may find at another shop, but you get what you pay for. The staff from sales to installation/maintenance and even the office are really fantastic. Professional, knowledgeable and easy to engage with regardless of how much experience you have. The livestock is healthy and they get amazing specimens. The staff help problem solve and care for their customers tanks as if they were their own tanks. If you haven't been there - you must check it out!

Experiencia fantástica: It's unfortunate that I live in an area where local fish stores not named Petco/PetSmart are non-existent nowadays. However, even with the 45 minute drive to Greenwich to check out House of Fins, it's still well worth the trip. I've only been here a few times picking up fish/plants here and there, but even with them specializing more in saltwater than freshwater, their livestock has always been superb. Whether it's the lack dead fish in any of the tanks, how healthy the fish look, how lush all of the plants/corals are, you can seriously tell the workers here know what they're doing. I complimented the person I worked with on his knowledge of what they had in store and his response was, "everyone who works here is a hobbyist first." That's the answer you want to hear when shopping in a LFS. A++ customer service. Even if you don't end up purchasing anything at House of Fins, the visit is usually enough of an experience to convince yourself to come back again. Can't recommend enough.

Experiencia positiva: Inspired by another reviewer to post a similar experience: Healthy fish, beautiful store, great staff and well informed! I'm a freshwater guy so I was mildly disappointed with the quantity of freshwater tanks but upon further inspection, there was some very interesting livestock available. What you absolutely must do is cross shop your non-livestock goods. I purchased a frozen food and didn't realize the list price was $21! I'm talking about a Hikari food. This is not some unique, hobbyist-made item. Hard to find, I'll admit but this is exorbitant. I found the same found at a different LFS for $7. There's no excuse for pricing like this. The livestock is expensive too but I didn't see a single dead fish and the live ones were all healthy. I purchased a couple and they've been great so far. They're also an authorized vendor of UNS and they had a piece available that had been out of stock at all the online retailers for just a few bucks over retail (think shipping costs baked in). I didn't shop any other UNS pieces but this might also be an exception to the rule I mentioned. Long story short, come visit and take a look. The store is beautiful and the fish are healthy. Great service but don't buy anything without a quick google search. At these prices, it becomes hard to support LFS's. 300% price increase is not acceptable.

Experiencia fantástica: Anyone who likes fish, has fish, etc. should visit this store at least once in their lifetime. After that, you'll probably want to go back! Not only does House of Fins have an AMAZING selection of both saltwater and freshwater fish (& other creatures) - they also have fantastic employees! I've only been in twice and both times an employee has spent time answering ALL of my questions (probably hundreds of them), explaining setups that I didn't know about, etc. Truly, phenomenal customer service!!! Can't wait to go back!

When I get my ultum tank up and running I hope to make the trip back down to this place to pick up some plants and fish.

Experiencia negativa: I had to come quite of my way to come see the store unfortunately I got there only a few minutes before they close where they appeared to lock up 10 min early. I called in advance to let them know I was coming. All the employees saw me knocking on the door and ignored me till the manager came over and said were closed. I then basically had to beg him to let me in and take a quick look around to see what they had while they counted the register and clean up etc. He agreed all the tanks looked really nice with a good selection to. But lord have mercy the prices were absolutely out of this world expensive like double or triple liveaquaria.com and absolutely fish (they are expensive to but not this expensive). I understand they need to make a profit but this is just extortion. It’s a shame because I had planned on spending close to a grand setting up my new salt water tank but in this place all I would get for that much is a couple of fish and corals. Unless your a dentist or something you’ll probably not be able to get much of anything from them.

This store seems to have the greatest variety and number of sea anemones and corals - ever. Deep knowledge as well about aquaculture gardening.

You pay a premium, but their livestock is incredibly healthy and their employees expertise is more on par with marine biologists than pet store salesmen. I upgraded my tank form a 29 to a 65 gallon freshwater set up. Aga and Peter (The A Team) delivered the tank, stand, new substrate, rocks, and plantings. In three hours the old tank was taken down and the new set- up was in place. Within four hours the water was crystal clear. Sensational is the only way to describe the experience. I cannot say enough about about House of Fins and the ultimate hobby experience they provide. If tropical fish is your hobby, go to House of Fins.

Experiencia fantástica: Been using these guys for a few years now, and they never fail to impress. Their livestock is often plentiful, diverse, and intriguing. I can always feel much more confident in the health of specimens from here as well as a lower chance of pest and disease. I have been able to run my tank without a quarantine because House of Fins does well with fending off nasties. I use both the store and service department, and each has great customer service. They are very accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly. This is the place to go!

We recently relocated to the Bay Area and they took care of our betta fish until we were ready for him...then they packed him and made sure he was delivered safe and sound to us the next day.
