It was like a random collection of burning man art fails with a particularly Portland crunchy budget vibe. It was kinda like a budget, kid version.

My favorite installation was the push button light up dancing furry whale! Also the hall of lights, which was greatly enhanced by the provided glasses. We can't wait for the next iteration!

Experiencia positiva: Update: @Fathom, does the content change during adult hours or just that there aren't children there? My comment was about the lack of plot beyond a flimsy premise and complexity to discovering secrets or playing with the space. The absence of children doesn't change any of that. FATHOM was an okay experience. The space and art were well done and there were many cool parts. Overall it was a good value for the money, however having been, I wouldn't go without bringing children, as the lack of complexity of the puzzles, world building or coherent and continuous plot didn't feel made for adults. Overall, it was nice that it gets people downtown where they'll probably stop at a few more businesses.

Experiencia fantástica: This was a great way to celebrate my 49th birthday! I love code solving puzzles and scavenger hunts. Both were easy enough that we could get them done before my son decided he was ready to leave - his max time somewhere is usually 30mins we were here for an hour. The space is beautiful and feels magical. Public parking in the same building with a $5 weekend special. After we walked to Ben and Jerry's! I heard there is an afterhours adult only option. Not sure what that offers.

Experiencia fantástica: It was awesome. I couldn't quite tell from the website but it definitely feels like a kid oriented activity, which is what I was looking for. As a parent I had a lot of fun watching my kids enjoy the art and helping them figure out the little mysteries. As an artist I was blown away by the craftsmanship of the space and the creativity of the world they made. Kids will love it, I think a lot of adults will enjoy it in same way the kids do, and if you're an art lover it's definitely worth a visit. I bought tickets online and got a discount for being on SNAP, which is awesome.

Experiencia fantástica: We were a group of four adults and it was a fun and playful experience. We enjoyed seeing the creative multi media installations. There’s a lot to explore and the treasure hunt and puzzle game that they provide helps you to check out every nook and cranny. I appreciated that the staff were low-key in the background, available if you needed them but out of the way if you didn’t. Check it out while it’s still there.

Experiencia fantástica: Fun activity especially on a rainy day. Not comparable to hopscotch (which is way better for adults in my opinion.) Definitely better for children. If you’re an adult I highly suggest taking an edible. The glasses definitely make things more fun. I went through the whole thing in 25 minutes. It was fun and enjoyable.

Definitely bring the family. This is not a solo trip. It’s very friendly for little kids. The staff that works there is great! They really help you get the most out of the experience.

I've been putting off going 1.) because of the limited hours (understandable, I just work retail lol) but 2.) I was scared this would be tiny/gimmicky/soulless in a corporate influencer photobooth way ,, but I was so wrong! glad we finally lucked out on time off to check it out. everything (besides the AI sea monster clips on one of the ship windows ) feels so homemade and full of love. in a time where being an artist couldn't be less valued, it's really invigorating to see so many hands tinkering away at passion projects in spite of it all. very inspiring to see so many affordable/SCRAP-esque materials at play. so many ideas and possibilities to take home into my own work. at the moment, I find it exceedingly rare to feel this sort of hope and joy for both creatives and our city. thank you all for doing what you do also - the big puzzle was unexpectedly a little tricky for us two adults !!

Highly suggested to get there earlier and have amble time to solve the puzzles and to explore the fun aspects of this installation. Use the scientist to help you out. This is an ever evolving installation and it will be fun to go back to.

Experiencia fantástica: We spent a wonderful afternoon as guest researchers at Fathom, exploring Portland oddities. Fathom was interesting and fun to wander through. We had a mixed-age group including children and adults. Everyone had a unique and amazing time. The art and installations plus the deeper story elements I highly recommend stopping by and researching yourself! They offer free admission within 7 days of your birthday. Tickets are easily purchased in advance with staggering arrival so there is no wait at the door. There are plenty of nearby parking garages with affordable parking but you could also take the Max. I was in awe of the work and ingenuity of these artists.

Experiencia fantástica: This was a fun night! I went with a couple of girlfriends one evening, but purposefully did not look at too many pictures or reviews because I wanted to be surprised. I was not disappointed! It’s visually stunning and fully immersive - there is so much to look at and explore. The scavenger hunt was tricky, but we worked it out with some clues from one of the cast members. This is fun for all ages, and be ready to spend about 2 hours to experience everything. Be aware that younger children may be creeped out by some of the art, ect. I liked that it was set up like we were on a mission, but that we could do as little or as much as we wanted to with the puzzles and whatnot. Highly recommend!

Yes, agreed, it's a short stay IF you do not look at details, or if you do not do the scavenger hunt. HOWEVER, if you do participate, you could spend up to 1.5-2 hours there. I took myself and my 3 kids. 14, 10 and 10 and they loved it. No, this is not Hopscotch, so please lower your expectations, but do appreciate the art and the efforts to display this fun and visually creative theme.

Experiencia fantástica: FATHOM by Roboto Octopodo is an undersea dream! ​​ I recently went to their Treasure Your Booty class, a collaboration with Booty Luv® Fitness (yes, the name alone sold me), and it was everything I hoped for. Imagine a creative playground under the sea, where you’re surrounded by glowing jellyfish, neon coral reefs, and ​vibes that make you feel like a mermaid. If you’re looking for something whimsical, interactive, and wildly creative, this is ​it. 10/10 recommend diving in. ✨

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter and I went on Sunday early evening and had the best time. Was such a great way to spend time together exploring, observing and solving. The staff was so helpful and so fun to interact with and help solve all of the different phases of the puzzle. Honestly the staff is what made the whole experience phenomenal!! We’ve recommended this to so many friends after going. I hope they make more installations in the future!! It’s such a great way to feature so many local artists and makers.

It was a lovely sensory stimulation with all the diffrent textures and visuals and noise/music. Cool interactive pieces as well and, little scavenger hunt. Great job to the artists!

Experiencia fantástica: I enjoyed my experience a lot! I went for my birthday, over the weekend. It was immersive, and well made. It wasn't just a small room, there was a lot to see and explore. The details were incredible! This would be enjoyable for young kids who just want to run around and look, and adults who have a better appreciation for solving puzzles and what it takes to craft an art experience like this. Not too expensive, well worth the price of tickets. Staff are friendly and helpful, and add to the experience. The sensory experience was nice for me- dim, moody lights. Some pulsing, or moving lights. Lots of different sounds to listen to in different areas. Not extremely loud for me. Overall, a wonderful fun time!!

Experiencia fantástica: A fun way to have a multi-aged outing. It incorporated art with a scavenger hunt. We spent two hours there which was perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful as were other visitors. We opted for street parking which seemed safe in the area this is located.

Experiencia fantástica: Fun beyond my expectations but a very intense sensory experience! Would not reccomend going in unprepared if you are sensitive to lights. My group of three had a very postive visit during their mask required hours and were very impressed how much detail was throughout every area. I have a migrane disorder and am sensitive to lights, especially flashing/strobbing lights. Staff were receptive to my access questions and described how to avoid the most intense area. We were given novelty glasses to wear, I was unable to wear them at any point, but one of our party said they were enjoyable as an added layer. I brought sunglasses just in case, which were ultimately not needed as I could orient away from flashing lights once all the way inside. The entry tunnel was a mild strobing effect, it is maybe 6 ft and then you're inside the exhibit. The intense area was easy to avoid by not going down a side passageway, and the other 90% of the space was spacious and easy to navigate. I could put my manual wheelchair right up to most everything and really enjoyed a lot of the kid height art. Highly reccomend for sensory seekers to light and touch.

Experiencia positiva: This was fun! I would say it's a bit underwhelming only because I just went through Meow Wolf's Omega Mart recently. BUT! That does not mean this is any less of an experience. It was charming, and the staff was wonderful. The interaction with the exhibit overall was fun, I wouldn't mind doing another one when it comes back.

You can buzz through and enjoy the lights and art, or linger and work through the scavenger hunt / puzzle which was just enough to make you think but not something to get frustrated with.

Experiencia positiva: Tried to order tickets last night. I tried 4 times because each time I did it would go to this page that basically said they were unable to process at the time. After the 4th time I wanted to check my banking account to make sure nothing was being charged to my card but sure enough there are 4 44$ pending transactions! I'm not rich. I'm living paycheck to paycheck so for this to happen really effects my lively hood. That's my living money. Had to call the bank to dispute the claims and said could take up to 10 business days. No way to actually get a hold of anyone here. Once this is figured out I will not give my business to this place. Ruined my girlfriend's birthday. I was just trying to take her out to do something fun. Edit: they took care of the problem promptly and offered free tickets for the inconvenience.

Experiencia fantástica: My mom is almost 60 and I'm 20, we both could've spent half the day here! We were walking around and solving three rounds of puzzles/clues for almost 5 hours. There was so much detail and many interactive displays to check out, and we both bought marxes at the gift shop after. So much fun, appreciate all the work that goes into these events, and will 100% come back in the future!

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t even remember how I found out about this place. It might’ve been through the Portland winter light festival. Anyway, I had a girlfriend visiting and we thought this would be a fun thing to do and if you really want to enjoy this, I would say don’t ruin it and look at the pictures, go there completely blind. The place is not that big but the art is really cool and you can find a lot of minute details of like little scenes and fun things that are just super cool and unique and creative. Also, all the people that work there are super into playing their roles and it really adds to the fun of it. We didn’t solve the puzzles, but there were a lot of people who seemed like they were really enjoying that aspect of the treasure hunt and decoding the symbols and I think I would really like to go back and try to approach it from that perspective, I think that would be really cool. Anyway enjoy this place while lasts and support local artists!!!!

We showed up on a whim on a Sunday afternoon, after getting turned away from that other “immersive art experience” as we hadn’t purchased tickets in advance. We waited less than five minutes in the cozy lobby before heading into the depths. My puzzle-loving husband and I had a great time piecing together the lore and secrets, and our toddler had a blast with all the exciting colors, lights, textures and sounds. Highly recommend!

The lights and art are beautiful and also silly. Another thing that was off the charts amazing was the staff. They are so helpful in general, but one staff member did a great kindness for me. I have sensory issues and I got overwhelmed by the noise. I was walking around plugging my ears and he noticed. He offered me noise cancelling headphones. This seemingly small thing is really so important for people with disabilities. I don't remember his name but if you see this thank you so much!

Experiencia fantástica: It's so rad how Portland has tapped into the current experiential art wave. Where Hopscotch is special and fun, Fathom brings a whole other side to what this kind of art experience can be. Each of the installations of Fathom feel handcrafted, heartfelt, & labored on by intricate, complex, and special beings. The installation feels like intergalactic folk art that's been elevated and given a more appropriate platform. One where we can explore on our own, with our friends, with our hands, our eyes, our hearts, and imagination. You don't need to see the profiles or artist bios to know that they have acquired a diverse team of artists (deep sea scientists) bringing a myriad of stories, experiences, and aesthetics. Without a ton of contextual information the display reads as queer and inclusive to me. Somehow all of these many hands & projects come together in this fantastical curation. I love the experience of an installation that merits many walk throughs. Fathom is a delight for the ADHD brain that can follow whatever TF thread it wants and circle back at its own pace as many times as it needs. I'm glad the work keeps getting held over, it's a delight to reclaim a space that has become surrounded by way less interesting things. It's truly a treasure to get to experience. I'll be going back, I think this time with my polaroid...

Experiencia fantástica: Such a great time!! We came here for my 40th a few weeks ago and came w our son and a few friends. My family *loves* puzzles and ciphers. Getting to go through the puzzles to get to the end surprise was absolutely worth it! The artists… sorry, the “scientists” who created this exhibit are amazing and so intensely creative. Not gonna lie, we snagged a few ideas for home decor while we were on the hunt. Do yourself a favor and get your buns down here. I can’t wait to take my mom when she comes into town, she’ll have a blast!

Experiencia fantástica: Really fun experience, enjoyed the various puzzles and scavenger hunts. Walked around for about 90 minutes, participants ranged from 6-8 years old up to 50-60ish. They give you light-distorting glasses (think 3D glasses, but prism style) when you walk in, just fyi for anyone that might not be able to do something like that.

Experiencia fantástica: My boyfriend and I (28 & 29 y/o) had a great time here! They give you glasses at the beginning of the tour and it's imperative you wear these. We were so excited and impressed by the different perspectives, one of the tour guides overheard us & gave us a "secret" pair of glasses, which made the tour so much more mesmerizing. We spent about an hour 15 walking through, and still didn't find everything on the scavenger hunt sheet. The way the art and decor is designed is with the intentions of viewing it through these different lenses.

Experiencia positiva: First of all, overall we had a blast. The downside was that the scavenger hunt was too hard, granted there were a few people around to help so we should have just asked sooner. But if we got some basic directions or pictures of what the fictional words were it would have made more sense. My kids (13, 10, and 8) got super frustrated and when I intervened it was almost impossible for me as an adult even after asking for help a few times. They should make it easier to give a sheet with directions to explain...decode the back side and it will tell you where to go for clues. Very fun overall, and the attention to small details was so fun!

Experiencia positiva: It was ok, cute for little kids. Kinda like a low budget meow wolf type place. It gets super crowded for how small it is and folks let their little ones run wild….so you’ll hear nonstop crying from kids bouncing off something they bumped into. Not sure I’d say it’s worth 20 bucks a ticket, but it was good to get a free bday ticket to split the cost.

Fathom is a whimsical, crafty, upcycled exhibit that feels very Portland. It's cute, and while I had fun with my friends, it might not be for everyone. Those looking to feel fully immersed in another world without effort need not attend. Those who enjoy appreciating the creativity of the builds, scavenger hunts, and silly little details will have a great time. 3/5 - solid fun for most audiences, but not a knock your socks off experience.

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my toddler and after getting scared walking in, she decided it was the coolest place ever. I wish we had time to go back up again before it gets taken down! Interactive with a scavenger hunt of sorts. Fantastic. Babies all the way to elderly and everyone in between were all having a great time while I was there. Experiencia fantástica: This was so cute and quirky. Not recommended for littles under 4yr, and I can see why 16yr and older after dark. We came with the niece and nephew ages 10 and 12. They had a blast! The textiles and details were outstanding I wouldn't have minded coming back as an adult date with um... some additives on deck.

The final activity involved a lot of work that did not particularly pay off. It was a cool space to explore though. I liked the whale.

Experiencia fantástica: Fathom is a SPECTACULAR experience!!! I have been gushing about it to friends, family, co-workers, even strangers! I spent almost two hours searching every nook and cranny for clues, hidden treasures, and easter eggs. Researchers (staff) were very kind, helpful but not overly so, and kept the theme running through their friendly yet silly attitudes. Small kiddos, families, couples, and elderly folks were all scrambling to find the secrets and clues. This experience is fun for little ones who can enjoy the bright lights and interactive pieces and for adults who can put their detective skills to work. The 5D glasses are very fun and even work outside of the exhibit! Overall, Fathom blew my expectations out of the water. I was immersed in this artistic, creative, and silly adventure. I can't wait to see what Roboto Octopodo does next! :)

I don't want to describe any of it, or post photos, because discovering it all is a big part of the fun. It's all really well done, and the artist's touch and vision really shines. All the staff were really fun to interact with, there to enhance the experience but never rushing or interfering with exploration. I loved it so much. Can;t wait to see what the artists do next.

Experiencia fantástica: There are very few activities both my 8 year old & 16 year old like doing together. This was a hit! Visually beautiful, and intellectually stimulating, we were all determined to find all the clues and complete all the side quests. It was not easy, but super fun. Highly recommend seeing this exhibit while it's still here. Thank you for adding such enjoyment to downtown again!

Experiencia fantástica: A fun and immersive installation that clearly had a LOT of labor (and love!) go into it from a huge team of contributors. Interactive, with a scavenger hunt to self-guide your experience (and helpful 'researcher' guides in case you get stuck). Plan to spend around 2 hours exploring, depending on how much of a completionist you are. This would be fun for kids, but there are also hours just for grown-ups (which is when I went).

Experiencia fantástica: This exhibit is super fun and changes frequently enough to be worth more than one visit. My 8yo is especially enamored of exploring and solving the puzzles and mysteries. We've been several times and taken friends too, each time we've found something we didn't see before.

Experiencia fantástica: Great fun, I'm sure for all ages. Our group ranged from 16-45 years old and we had a wonderful time. The scavenger hunt made it like an escape room but without the stressful time limit. I loved seeing all the upcycled materials.
