I’ve kept freshwater tanks for over 10 years, but recently made the leap into saltwater—and let me tell you, it’s a whole new world. I came to Fins and Skins with concerns about a particularly aggressive fish that kept eating every tankmate I tried to introduce. Anyone who’s been in this hobby long enough knows how costly and frustrating that can be. From the moment I walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate. They took the time to listen to my specific setup and challenges, then provided expert recommendations on compatible fish that could thrive alongside my troublemaker. But what really sets them apart is the level of guidance they offer. They didn’t just sell me a new fish—they gave me detailed advice on how to properly introduce them to reduce stress and promote a healthy transition. Not particularly attractive displays or beginner-friendly. Fair prices for what they sell, but they don’t sell any inexpensive fish or equipment.

If you're looking for something specific, they can usually order it for you. They also carry a good quantity of turtles and lizzards. They have everything you need for your aquarium, they'll even test your water at a decent price, which will be discounted if you buy what they reccomend to get your water to where it needs to be. They often discount fish if you buy in bulk.

He was honest on what I needed and encouraged me on the best way to get the beta home, tank set up and also held him for me while I set the tank up, out of concern for the fish. It was very kind and I appreciate that he cared that much. They have a huge selection and some of the most unique animals. All of the critters look healthy and happily housed ! Thank yall again :)

Honest owner who is always present in the shop to give advice. Have had so much success with our reptile purchases here for my kids over the years after having so many failures when I was trying to keep lizards as a kid.

Experiencia fantástica: We had the most amazing experience and worth the long drive. We had been looking for a lizard for sometime. Something my husband would like after our son is grown and off being an adult, and something our son could handle like our bearded dragon before she passed. I learned so much in 10-15 minutes from one of the guys on staff (I think Joe?) than we did with weeks of research and numerous reptile shops we visited. I know from having one before how big of a decision this is for our family. They are a rescue on the lizard side. They handle them and know them, not ship them in and dump food in until it's sold. We ended up with something different than we planned, but perfect for our family's needs and wants- a Red Ackie Monitor. Our son feeds him outside his enclosure each morning. We got a large screened enclosure plus additional structure. If you're trying to find the right fit where reptiles are cared for, this is the place for you.

Experiencia negativa: Used to be a great store, but if your fish die in quarantine the day after purchase due to disease you become the fool as ALL SALES ARE NOW FINAL. Do yourself a favor and go to literally any other store if you want your purchases backed. Long term customer lost.

Experiencia positiva: Short version: loved the fish section, but had concerns about the reptiles. The shop is well staffed and everyone is friendly. They have great (and ever-changing) deals on used tanks and equipment. The aquatic section is great - stock looked healthy, and the tanks were some of the cleanest I've ever seen in a local fish store. The baby coral selection looked healthy and well cared for. I overheard between staff and a family, and it came through that the staff member was knowledgeable and cared about helping them select an appropriate species. There's a good selection of quality dry goods as well. The reptile section is largely animals, and they have an interesting variety. Some are housed in very nice setups, but there were sub adult bearded dragons in 20 gallon and smaller enclosures (which is way too reactive of movement, even in a temporary basis). Not all animals requiring UVB had it, which can result in irreversible bone damage. I also overheard a staff member telling a family that an under tank heater was necessary (they're dangerous and can burn animals, break tanks and cause fires), and must of the "package deal" setups noted that an under tank heater was needed or recommended. This was concerning since many people buying their first reptile get the bulk of their information from the shop or person they purchase from.

He didn't sell me on any expensive fish or additives but showed me and explained to me the basics of cycling and creating healthy bacteria and ammonia levels. This is why you shop local. Experiencia positiva: Doesn't look too inviting from the outside, but once you walk in, you'll be welcomed with smiles and greetings. They have a good assortment. The prices are great too. If you sign up for emails, you will know when the sales are happening and special discounts too. I walked in for a particular Betta fish but fell in love with an ordinary blue one. I didn't stay to check out all the animals, but it's worth the trip back to see what is in there.

Experiencia negativa: Tried to go in with my unvested service dog. Was kicked out because of a employee having allergies. I didn't get the chance to see much. So, I have no clue if they are decent. But.. as a warning to others going. Don't bring your dog or furry pet as they are not friendly to them. :(

Experiencia negativa: At first sight this store looks like it’s got it all. Good and healthy animals, kind staff, proper equipment and care. But it’s not till the exotic pet you adopted gets sick when you realize that this store and its staff give you false information on how to properly take care of your animal. We got a beardie back in December and got told that we couldn’t adopt him if we didn’t have the reptile kit. The kit consisted of a UVB light that WASNT enough watts for what our baby needs, and with this horrible pink/sand substrate that we were told would be healthy for the dragon which in-fact was not. We went back for a change of substrate and they gave us this walnut substrate that we were told AGAIN the dragon wouldn’t ingest. He started getting sick and we took him to Blue Pearl animal hospital where they ran an xray and found some of that substrate in his tummy that he ingested while eating his food. He is very very sick and i am very disappointed at all the misinformation this store has given us. The staff is friendly, but it seems they dont know they’re stuff 100% which is CRITICAL to these types of animals. Get your exotic buddy somewhere else!!!! Save yourself the trip to the vet and adopt from a place where these animals are TRULY cared for.

Experiencia fantástica: I sincerely appreciate how knowledgeable the staff here is. Not just in general, but about the individual animals in their care. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They take excellent care of their critters, they can thoroughly answer your questions and help guide you to an animal that is appropriate to your household, knowledge of husbandry requirements and so forth. They’re patient with teaching and will show you what items they recommend. My family and I recently took home a horned Jackson’s chameleon and a helmeted chameleon and it was the gentleman we spoke with was very thorough and patient with us taking a while with our decision. We also had an opportunity to speak with the staff member who’d been feeding them and working with them for quite some time. It really meant a lot to us to be able to be granted so much insight into the disposition of our new buddies and we are grateful for that. I highly recommend these folks. They do an excellent job with their animals. They provide amazing care, and strive to make sure you are adequately prepared for the animal you take home. Our chameleons both have there own separate houses and are doing wonderful. We adore them and very much appreciate that the fins and skins staff spent a good amount of time making sure we had what we needed. Highly recommend.

Experiencia negativa: This place personally doesn't deserve the one star I was getting a large rat every other week at for 8$ and some change and today I pick up a rat on my way home from work and when I got home I noticed my snake was shedding so he's not going to eat so I bring the rat and My receipt back and Joe tells me he can't refund or give me credit but he can take it back and resell it like my money don't matter

Over the course of my visit, three different people, all knowledgeable in their fields, toured us around the shop. I really didn't enter intend on getting something, but between the health of the animals, the effort in the enclosures, and the passion of the staff, I'm so glad we did. Dude spent an hour and a half, just talking about reptiles and showing us cool stuff. No shop is perfect, but I dare you to find many of this caliber. If you're going to buy an exotic pet or start an aquarium, go in there and ask every question that comes to mind. Get their opinions. I saw that one star review. I'd much rather have the staff of a pet store have technical issues than issues with animal care. That's paramount!!! They have animal care down to an impressive level. You won't regret just popping in, but it's a fantastic asset for exotic pet owners.

Experiencia fantástica: Awesome place to get reptile equipment and feeder insects. The owner gave me some discoid roaches which are incredibly hard to find in stock anywhere. They breed their own insects and all of the animals seem very well taken care of with appropriate environments suited to each animal. The staff there was very knowledgeable and friendly. The prices were fair and there was a large amount of stuff in stock to choose from. Great business for reptiles and fish owners.

Experiencia negativa: Have bought a bunch of turtles from these guys recently. Have had reptiles before and have been taking good care of them. However, unfortunately 2 of the turtles suddenly passed away without any indication of poor health. I have gotten contradictory advice from different employees at this place, and I’m curious why one of them is being allowed to care for animals when he himself doesn’t even have any teeth. How am I supposed to believe you guys have healthy animals when your employees don’t even have teeth. All I can say is I won’t be back and I sincerely hope our remaining turtles live happy long lives. This place is just another pet smart equivalent profit horse at the expense of animals.

Experiencia fantástica: I'm in here weekly for snake supplies. They're very well equipped for anything reptile, and their program for feeders is a huge cost saver for me. Staff is pretty knowledgeable as well. Lots of cool fish both salt and fresh to look at as well as multiple species of turtles. There's also a sulcata tortoise that lives out back.

I’m really happy I bought my bearded dragon (Yoshi) here bc I have now went to all of the other stores around and this is the best one by far! They never pay attention to what you’ve brought to the counter. If they don’t ring it up congratulations! but be careful when they do because they’ll also mess up and overcharge you as well, oh but call them out on their mistake and no one knows how to assist with that. Also note they don’t have warranty on their animals, because bring it home and in a week you’ll be bringing it back for them to preserve it in a jar for you.
