Experiencia negativa: Its really unfortunate, but I will never be returning to this store. I've been here a few times and it keeps getting worse. Everyone in there is very rude and didn't want to answer my questions. This is definitely not the place to go to if you are starting out. They are not helpful and just seem to want you out of the store. I'm always looking for more knowledge and help as I am a novice fish keeper. Find another place if that is where you are, too in your fishing keeing journey. Horrible experience.

Experiencia negativa: Been going there for awhile. Generally I've had good experiences. Last transaction was disappointing. I bought a couple of frozen food sheets and by the time I got home they had defrosted a bit and one was leaking in the shopping bag, upon inspecting i found that it had a big tear in the plastic. I called the store but no one picked up, the next day I called and still no one picked up. So, I drove 45 min to the store from long island to exchange it and I was told there's no return. I told them it has a cut and I don't feel comfortable feeding my fish from an unsealed bag but they didn't exchange and insisted that it must've got a tear on my way home. So, It can't be faulty or get a tear when they receive it from the supplier or when they have dozens of them stacked in the freezer? but it can get a cut from me walking 30 ft to my car with two sheets in a shopping bag and driving it home? Regardless of where it got a cut, it's a $12 item and they should be able to replace it. I understand a no return policy but I'm not returning something because I changed my mind. I'm exchanging because it's faulty. I'm a regular here and I've even bought my discus from this store at $139/each. For them to argue over a $12 item exchange is disappointing. It's difficult to find a tear on a frozen plastic bag but I suggest inspecting thoroughly before buying.

Experiencia negativa: Please avoid shopping here. My experience was extremely upsetting. I spent $2,221.06 yesterday and was pressured into purchasing three items I did not originally want. When I requested a refund for those items, I was met with disrespect and hostility from Vivian and her manager. They upcharged me for several items so I requested to just remove 3 items and they became "very dark." They went as far as to threaten the cancellation of my entire order unless I agreed to buy everything they were aggressively pushing. It felt coercive and deeply unsettling—like my business was being held hostage. No customer should ever be treated this way. They repeatedly called me, pressuring me to keep a stand I clearly declined, and even threatened to cancel the delivery of the items I had already paid for. Their behavior was unprofessional, aggressive, and discriminatory. " Then Vivan stated she wasted two hours working with me " Waste? She made 2, 221.00 off of me what waste? To make matters worse, a fish and a shrimp I purchased over the weekend have already died. I do not recommend this place due to the poor customer service, bullying tactics, and lack of respect. I regret doing business here and would recommend others look elsewhere for more respectful, honest service. FYI: I have cancelled my order and will go somewhere else more professional.

Experiencia positiva: During my first purchase I got shrimp, loaches, and fish. I was happy with that purchased, so I went back for more fish. For my second purchase I got 4 rasboras. 2 died before we even made it home and 1 died from the ick. I treated the one remaining fish, and he's still alive, but it's quite disappointing.

Even before they entered the aquarium, it is important to note that I live nearby, you have no respect for your customer, you do not care what happened. You showed me a sign behind all your products that says that you do not refund money on any purchase. From here I appeal to whoever reads this if you care about animals do not go near this place, this is a scam place!!!
While we understand the frustration of losing fish, it’s important to recognize that poor outcomes don’t automatically mean the fish were sick—especially if you felt confident enough to purchase them in the first place. Had you approached us with a bit more respect and less entitlement, rather than issuing demands and threats of a full chargeback over your own husbandry challenges, we might have been more inclined to assist. In any case, best of luck on your fishkeeping journey—Petco might be more aligned with the level of support you’re seeking.
Experiencia fantástica: Knowledgeable & friendly staff. Large selection of fish & other aquatic animals. They had what most pet stores didn’t. Also the prices are very affordable. I will definitely be returning. Just a heads up, there’s no parking on the block of the aquarium. However, there’s a parking lot across the street. Otherwise, Monster Aquarium is highly recommended. It’s a dope spot!

Experiencia negativa: Went to pick up 5 Geoserarma Vampire crabs. I should have just left since they were in 80% water with only a few pieces of wood to stand on and these crabs live in 80% LAND and 20% water for an ideal setup. Each Geosesarma Vampire Crab Species must be kept SEPARATE as they do not breed or get along between species. They also need hiding spots to minimize stress and fighting between each other. This place did exactly the OPPOSITE of this. No land for them. all species mixed. No hides. This is 100% the reason that 3/5 died on my 20 minute drive home and 1 more dead a day after. Granted i came back immediately and asked for a store credit which i was given so i can appreciate that. But in regards to this specific animal i would NOT recommend whatsoever. Little care is known about this species and little research is being done to do it properly.
Experiencia positiva: Sometimes the fish are great, sometimes they are not. I bought some chili rasbora two days ago and after they colored up they have the worst case of ich I’ve ever seen. Make sure you inspect the fish before purchase; do not trust them to quarantine, they will sell you diseased fish.
Experiencia fantástica: I've been buying my fresh water fish here for 5 years and counting! What I love most is there are always variety of fishes to choose from and as the season changes so does their inventory which is great. Luckily I haven't had a problem with the quality of their fishes but of course you can tell their fishes are healthy and well medicated. I would definitely recommend this store for all local fish keepers!
Experiencia negativa: I’m a regular at MA I usually buy aggressive chiclid so I purchased a 200 dollar flowerhorn the next day he was acting all sick and erratic I tried calling for 2 days no pick up so I brought it back to store 1 hour drive for the Chinese skinny guy with glasses says there’s nothing he can do so I showed him a video I made of the way he acting and he said he don’t know what it is so I asked him can I exchange him and he said with an attitude I can’t do it so I pleaded with him for about 5 minutes and he told me I rather lose an customer than to exchange I’ve spent thousands of dollars there man that was foul but there was nothing I can do but I will no longer be purchasing from that store they don’t car about the consumer just the money they can make from therm I would give zero stars but can’t plus they sell lots of sick fish in there

My family and I traveled all the way from New Jersey to Queens, only to be completely ignored by the young woman working at the front. We were standing directly in front of her, yet she chose to attend to others and act as if we weren’t even there. When she finally did acknowledge us, her attitude was unprofessional and blatantly rude. It felt discriminatory, and there is absolutely no excuse for that kind of behavior — especially in a place that we’ve supported with our business before. We walked out without buying anything we came for, and we won’t be coming back. Truly disappointing.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve ordered online a couple of times now and have been so excited with what I’ve received. All of my shrimp and crabs have showed up alive, vibrant and healthy. Every single one is still thriving but I did eventually notice they’re all female, so I ordered again getting some more shrimp and some Thai crabs. This time I asked if it was a possibility to be sure some males were included and I got not only that but a berried female as well. I even got a bonus Thai crab and neo shrimp! Monster aquarium really went over the top for me and I couldnt be more happier or thankful. You have a forever customer out of me

Experiencia fantástica: Ok my review- Been in aquarium hobby a long time. Wanted a Tigrinus catfish which they had in stock, took the ride from Jersey used waze found place no problem. There is a parking lot across street, I chose to park on street and be quick. WOW what an inventory all types of exotics plus the usual. Place is small but has 10 times what average fish store has!! If i didn't get out quick I would have went nuts buying! So bought baby Tigrinus and a tiger shovelnose. This was a month ago, both eating and doing well.. Now i wanted a pair of zebra L046 plecos which they had.. I didn't want to deal with traffic so I ordered on line Monday morning Tuesday before noon they were at my house. Packed absolutely perfect, double bag, insulated box heat pads and paper. if you are looking for hard to find fish, most likely they will have!!

Experiencia fantástica: got my pacman frog here at a reasonable price about half a year ago and he has grown so much! He came at 1 inch and is now nearing a 3 in diameter. He has very healthy genetics and a healthy appetite. I'd recommend this place for pacman frogs over petco or other untrustworthy breeders. They also sell live earthworms which is a nutritious, easy to digest, smell-free and easy to store live feed I'd recommend as a staple. (just have to poke some holes in the container they come with and leave in the fridge)

Experiencia fantástica: This place is one of my favorites. They have a really good selection of fresh water livestock and equipment. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for, in my opinion.

Experiencia fantástica: Place is very good to visit, lots of exotic fish upstairs and two downstairs with full of fish, it is better than an aquarium. It is not in the best location. Overall I will check it out if your a fish enthusiast.
Experiencia negativa: They were hired by my tanks manufacturer to come look at my setup to assess for any defects. That was back in July, and I’ve been waiting since. If you need anything done within a decent time frame by a dependable company, look elsewhere. .

SO Happy with my order it was almost alarmingly fast. And Everything arrived healthy.(With extras!!!! <3) Will be ordering all the time now for sure can't say enough how pleased we are! (Only place online where vampire crab delivery worked out for us also as a bonus on the fish/shrimp!)

Experiencia fantástica: I honestly don’t know why this store have low reviews. The store has everything you need for this hobby, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Just ask a staff if you can’t find the one you’re looking for and they will show it to you right away. If unfortunately they get busy, use your common sense and wait for your turn! This is America we don’t spoon feed here. I am new to aquascaping and this store have everything you need to start. Here is the photo of the stuff I bought in the store (excluding the tank).

The tanks are all clean and the fish are happy and healthy. A Parking garage is located across the street. The employees, who seemed to be family, were pleasant and helpful and answered all my questions.

Experiencia fantástica: EDIT: They replied to my original review with context so I’m changing it! I loved this location. I found it via recommendations on places to stop at while in Main St, and this one was heavily recommended, so me and my partner tried it out! The first thing I noticed is that it’s a very hole-in-the-wall gem kind of spot. This place is not only very big, but they have an unbelievable variety of fish! There’s probably about 3-4 rooms wall-to-wall with all kinds of exotic fishes, and you wouldn’t expect it to be that large from the outside! A lot of fish I never even thought I would see for sale in my area. Some are at really good prices too! Others not so much, but they’re rare fish, so I won’t judge the prices at all. They also sell a ton of fish supplies and food here, so if you buy one I’m sure their staff would be able to give you some good recommendations on what to get for your fish! My only downside to the place is that it’s in a really strange location. You have to walk alongside the side of the neighboring mall’s block, with tons of trash on the walk down. You also have to pass this very scary looking house, that I’d hope gets renovated soon to help the neighborhood out. It’s at the very end of the street, and I honestly had almost given up hope we would even find it until we made it to the end and found the entrance. I still adore their selections of fish, though. Frogs were at such cheap prices, and I even got to see axolotls for the first time! They were very cutely adjusting to their climates in little containers. With the amount of fish tanks in the store, it must require a lot of hard work to upkeep with staff on all of them. I think they do put in a lot of effort to keep the tanks healthy & clean, even when there may be the occasional straggler fish who looks a bit sickly. It happens. Overall, I found this store to be way better than any other fish store I’ve had in my area before. I’ll definitely be back if I’m in the area and I’d recommend others should too! This store definitely deserves the support, there isn’t a lot like them left!

Experiencia negativa: I rescued this axolotl from this pet store because as you can tell it has severe ammonia burns and very skinny, has been neglected for a while, the lady with glasses was extremely rude these people do not care about their animals !!! Crazy.

Experiencia fantástica: Clean place with helpful staff. I just started and got guppies and catfish for my tank. The fish are clean and healthy.
Experiencia negativa: I usually don't take the time to write reviews but this place really truly deserved one. I went in 2 days ago to purchase some celestial pearl danios as I called in ahead of time to make sure that they specifically had those in stock - they told me they did. I purchased 6 of them, and while I believed they looked a bit different than they did online (different coloring, large dot on their tail) I thought they were perhaps infants and not fully grown, and they would change. I was silly to go back again to get a few more the next day, as I wanted for them to be comfortable in a large enough school in my tank. Then I found out that these fish are not even celestial pearl danios (Danio margaritatus)!!! They are actually a hybrid between emerald rasboras and celestial pearls called Danio margaritatus erythromicron (according to monster aquariums very own website). I called in to let them know nicely that they were selling mislabeled fish and maybe didn't know, but that I would like some store credit for my next purchase or at least a full refund if I brought them all in. I was told I was wrong a ridiculous amount of times - that they were in fact the right fish and if I bought the wrong fish I shouldn't have come back to buy more, or that it was against their policy to accept returns on ANY fish period, even in my case. My fish are completely healthy - no diseases or anything wrong with them, they are super excited and happy in their tank. I don't want to return them for any reason other than the fact that I spent $60 on mislabeled fish. Eventually after getting fed up and arguing with the manager I was told I could bring them in only today and get store credit which I can ONLY use the same day. What is the purpose of that when you don't even have the right fish? Any other fish store that I could think of would take accountability for their mistake and offer something to make the customer feel better about being swindled, but not Monster Aquarium. They literally had 2 separate listings on their website for the different fish so they definitely did know they were selling the wrong fish, but they will still deny it completely to make you feel like an idiot and waste your time (they promptly deleted the listing and the images of the fish after I mentioned it to them, way to cover up your trail). I'm overall so disappointed in the way that the people at this store treat you - like you're some imbecile that doesn't know what they're talking about. The fish are awesome and they have a good selection and equipment, don't get me wrong. Just do thorough research on what they're selling you and don't count on them being transparent/honoring their mistakes. EDIT: In response to Monster Aquarium - I visited twice, not three times. Regardless, you are absolutely correct that trusting the store that specializes in fish to know what kind of fish they’re selling is far too much to expect and I should have done my own research to figure out what you seemingly could not. And let’s not get it twisted! You did not offer a $50 credit until after you wasted 40 minutes arguing with me to tell me that I didn’t know what I was talking about when all you had to do was go on your very own website to see that you literally had a separate listing for the fish you sold me because they are, in fact, different fish! The so called $50 credit was also only if I brought in all the fish today, and only used that credit towards buying something the very same day. What kind of credit works like that? It’s ridiculous to me that you speak of respect when from the get go you were dismissive, ignorant, and rude in your communications. If you believe that you can twist reality to avoid looking bad, it won’t work. It was only after I realized that you were simply wasting my time and did not care even if the customer was right that I began cursing - until then I was incredibly understanding and respectful in my communications despite your rude behavior. Your business is extremely shady and I wouldn’t step foot in your establishment if my life depended on it.

Experiencia positiva: I bought a pom Pom crab and that was fine but the bag it came in had a hole in it. Water was leaking everywhere on the way home. Additionally, there was a tank in the basement where there were a school of red parrot fish, they were like $30 each. That tank was nasty. Yellow water, and there were sick and dead fish in it. June 22 2024 UPDATE: more lack of disrespect for their animals. This Axolotl was just in a random bucket. You would think it was dead but it wasn’t. It was still kicking and it was just randomly in the corner of their store. The quality of their environments for the parrot fish have improved tho. 4 to 3 stars.

They do have a good selection of fish. But awful service for a family business. If you are not buying the expensive exotic fish they treat you as a nuisance.

Read all you can - info is out there & patience. Drop by other day first time browsing only because thinking going back into the hobby after 45 years - last 1978. they were busy so didn't ask no questions. lots of fish. some never heard of in the 70's & newer technology filters/lightings I couldn't imagine when was as a teenager. But overall nice shop/nice customer attitude/nice supplies that I witness. I didn't buy anything as I am making plans for my new tanks - will drop by once my plans/goals is set - don't want to rush.

Experiencia negativa: Beware that the photos of the fish they have on their website is only when they first get them in. The fish begin to perish after a certain amount of days. I am glad i came to the store instead of ordering online. (They didn’t have a pick up option anyways. ) The fish looked healthy on their website but when i walked in the store it was a catastrophic tragedy. Worm man with glasses forgot why he started the business in the first place. His initial love for fish has become lust for monetary gain.
We do not have any pick up option is because theres fraud on cc , since you are able to come to the store and pick up might as well just to come and check it yourself , and dude take it easy, why are you so upsad ?!

I gave yall to stars because you was nice initially but I bought 6 fish as a surprise for my son for Christmas morning so we bought the fish on Christmas eve and they all died exactly 2 weeks later. The first one died on New Year day. On new year's day I woke up and noticed the gold koi fish had a red streak on fins and I called to ask what to do . I was instructed to get meds but but by the end of week one by one they continue to die. My son is devastated and I'm scared to buy fish again.I asked every question that I could think of being a new fish person.I picked two koi from one tank and 4 from another and I know now that I had one sick fish that came from a different tank at this same store which made the rest sick. But that's not why I'm leaving a bad review..its because I contacted the store back to let them know and it's been over a week and not a word just to say anything that would make the situation a lil better but not one word and I seen the message was read so that hurts. Work on ya'll customer service...not only did I spend 300 dollars here. My son lost his Christmas gift within 10 days of receiving it

They wont tell you how to properly care and what fish to put in tank according to size. Again I’m a new hobbyists and they even tested my water and yes they did notice ammonia. They still sold me the fish( way more than what the tank could hold) they are all dead know I wasn’t sure what to do with the ammonia. Careless owners and employees I drove all the way from Brooklyn to this place. Very disappointed
Basically 1 gallon per inch of fish is that what you really prefer. We give you our best opinion / advise , it is up to you to pull the trigger.

Experiencia fantástica: I bought a 71 gal. AIO setup and when I got home found the cabinet and tank frame damaged. I immediately called the shop and they were very understanding and told me to take whole setup back for a replacement. Although it was a long trip back and forth with Queens traffic I finally got the new tank home. Upon setting it up I couldn't get the front control panel to come on and after trying to trouble shoot it via email and landline I still couldn't get it to work. The owner John offered to come to my home to troubleshoot it. He drove all the way to Manhattan from his home on his day off to fix the problem. Turns out the front panel control module was defective , he was prepared and even bought extra parts with him. Monster Aquarium goes the extra mile with their customer service. A+++ I am definitely a customer for life and well worth the commute to the store. Anyone looking for the perfect aquarium store this it. You have to check it out in person. Thanks again !

Experiencia fantástica: I ordered some congo puffer from this store. They were a pretty rare find as not many places have them. The price was very reasonable and I liked that I could order them online and have them shipped avoiding having to drive through NYC. Despite the fedex drivers attempt to kill the fish they are all still alive. The person that packed up the box did a really good job at protecting them.

Experiencia fantástica: Visited Saturday morning with my 4 year old son. Ostensibly, the trip was for me to buy some aquatic plants, but I knew my son would love looking at the fish while I browsed. And he did love it--as well as the two sweet kitties that live in the shop. I was impressed with the selection of invertebrates--I saw pom-pom crabs, golden clams, many many types of crawfish/crayfish, including CPO dwarf ones. I was very tempted to buy one of each of the tiny inverts but I reminded myself that I should go home and research tank compatibility first! Instead, we bought some cabomba and moss balls. It seems that they only have freshwater specimens, which is fine with me, but I'm pointing that out in case saltwater enthusiasts stumble upon the listing. Lots of tank gear too--though the shop is so tiny and crowded that you should plan to do all your research beforehand rather than reading package descriptions while standing in the aisles. I will definitely be back! (But maybe not with my son because he wanted to buy all the goldfish.)
Experiencia positiva: MA has a ton of variety from plants to fresh water fish. At one point it was my go to shop for freshwater needs but in most recent visits i’ve noticed a rise in sick fish. Unsure what’s going on but if they’re able to change that, they will become the best shop in nyc once again. I would recommend if fish are being treated for an illness to have that clearly indicated for customers to see. Because we al understand, fish get sick and letting us know - goes a long way especially if they are still being sold.

Decided to pay a visit to the store to buy some fish and find out if these reviews are over exaggerating. They’re not. Most of the fish are in bad shape and the customer service is horrible. Wont be surprised if the owner replies to this making up a random scenario and making theirselves look good. Edit: While the response the owner gave to this comment seems polite and profesional, they did write “So what’s your story” beforehand. The behavior coming from the owner in these Google reviews is just a reflection of the quality of the store itself.

Experiencia fantástica: Awesome store. I only go in to buy a couple nano fish or small plants once in a while, but it's so cool to see all the giant creatures they have. I guess people are buying them! I will say, though: They get very busy. They probably won't have time to answer every question you have, so you should do your research beforehand and know what you're looking for when you go in. If it happens to be a slow day, then you can ask them their thoughts on whether watts per gallon is an appropriate metric for lighting or whatever lol.

Experiencia positiva: Selection is great, there’s a basement with bigger fish. The pricy stuff is down there. After spending about $300 in two weeks, I had 5% of the fish die within 24 hours. It’s not terrible but they don’t guarantee alive on arrival and unlike most internet sellers, they don’t give discounts here or add extra. The customer service depends on the person helping. One guy doesn’t have the best people skills, he’s a bit surly, and mildly argumentative. I asked for cholla, he argued that cholla wood is pronounced chola instead of choy-ah. Sir, it’s not chola. The usual guy on the register is fine, and the girl will duck away on her phone mid order. I suppose I’ll be back but mainly because of the parking is easy and BJ’s is right there.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been to this aquarium store several times, large selection of fish. Not many places like this left in NYC, I can only think of one. I honestly don't have any complaints, not even some of the customer service issues, as the times I've been there, I've been treated well. I would suggest to Monster to try to keep the store stocked up with the basic tetras, like black neons, glow lights, cardinals, Embers, etc. They have a lot of nice green neons in stock as of 2/2 if anyone is looking.....those you don't find in too many places.

I heard the female with glasses was bad but she never gave me an attitude... the fat guy with the glasses and colored hair seems to be the worst.... so he was helping me with an order of fish... i saw him getting some fish food for another customer so to save him time i tell him ill take one of those too nicely and the dude blows up on me... turns around to me with a huge attitude and said 'im not talking to u im talking to this lady here'... left me in shock or i woudlve yelled at him and stormed out... that left me and the lady rolling our eyes with the lady saying 'f's wrong with this guy'.... ive literally spend 100s here.... ill only come back moving forward as a last resort... every time u go in there and u need help its like a staring contest with these people... to see if they will ask u if u need help... ...dude seems to be in a perpetual bad mood and cursing in chinese... i mean if u dont like people dont sell fish and do retail...

So he moved on to help the other set of customers you interrupt in the middle of the conversation saying you need the same food that he’s getting for the customers. I’m not sure that I’ve ever been to a place where I need to double and triple check that they bag everything correctly and don’t give me poor quality products. Too inconveniently located to be so careless. I would stop by if I happened to be near and needed one thing. Not a good place to get lots of things to start an aquarium due to their disorganized, defensive customer service. They have everything you need but it may be rusted, broken or dirty. Too bad you can’t just grab everything yourself. They may also forget to put it in the bag when checking you out. I give them two stars for the little effort they put forth to admit they were wrong and give me the extra money they took from me… after gaslighting me.
