Experiencia fantástica: I received the most beautiful healthy fish I have had in a long time! As a pro of behavior of business and people, I learn a lot from observing behavior (of fish too☺️). These fish were clearly raised very well! No sunken belly, not shy or scared of every moment, and they didn’t waste any time settling in like they were home. They have very typical behavior of well established fish despite their journey. They all behaved as if they were here from day one! The package was well wrapped and delivered quickly. The order was processed & shipped on Monday, and arrived on Tuesday. The styrofoam box had a large plastic bag containing several smaller plastic bags, which had the fish secured in place thanks to support from bubble wrap (seen in their YouTube video). The packaging structure made the acclamation process easier. I followed the instructions seen in the video on your website titled acclamation process. The fish see us pass by the aquarium and they remain unbothered but aware. The discus were very friendly and slowly approach my hand when I was in the aquarium adjusted a plant upon their arrival. The discus don’t school like they’re afraid to venture off alone. If I alter the water currents they adjust quickly after schooling for a bit. I alter the currents using my gyre remotely. It’s a great way to get everyone schooling while staying dry. They were looking to eat after two hours of their arrival. Discus pecking order is happening now, which is their first morning here. Some discus I received from a different breeder, took several weeks to adapt and their behavior was different than these. Anyway, I’m Looking forward to learning my new discus little personalities over time. These discus are 2.0-2.5” and eating well! I frequently share updates on social media (e.g., adroit living on TikTok, YouTube, etc), because my aquariums are the background to my virtual meetings, etc. I will tag you so you can join in watching what comes of the babies I received. Most TikTok videos are only the fish because I don’t need to speak outside of how-to-videos. I speak enough in meetings. I have not had these fish for a long time. But I have been in the aquarium hobby over 20 years! I would highly recommend getting fish from Jack WATTLEY, Gabe and crew! I’ve been silently observing them for years! I finally elected to join them and get some of their babies. They’re a very passionate intelligent group of people who care about their fish, and not just about making money! The information they have is very FORTHCOMING, accurate, and helpful! Those are all the attributes of an organization which can outlast other organizations. Their fish is far lower cost than some who seem mainly focused on sales (especially meds). I’m extremely picky about joining groups. If I must join any group, it’d be this one! I’m glad I joined and I can’t wait to share my experiences over time. Great history of excellent work Jack WATTLEY, Gabe, the camera crew, and everyone! Experiencia fantástica: I just received my fish order… I ordered 42 fish without ever doing business with this place… I even called to confirm they received my order. I spoke with the owner, coolest guy I’ve ever talked to… very honest, very laid back… and then today my fish arrived. Everything was packed real nice, not a single fish was dead… infact, I ended up getting a few extra fish on accident I believe but nonetheless I got them. Everyone is in my new tank, swimming, already eating… I could not be happier with this entire process… I was REAL skeptical at first, but it all worked out. Also, Discus fish are freaking cool… I never had them, didn’t know anything about them… they are just beautiful fish

Experiencia negativa: The quality of fish they sent me are f grade. And the website pictures online do not match what they are actually shipping out to the customers. I got a red panda discus and she is stunted in growth, peppered and her fins are jacked up. I can fix the fin issue but the fact of the fish is a low grade fish and not matching up with the price tag hurts. I would of thought better with all of the great reviews on here. I have had discus fish for over 10 years now and I know that does not amount to Jacks time with them. Their customer service said the peppering comes and goes and has nothing to do with the quality of the fish.

From the health of the fish and the way that they are adjusting to customer service. I impulsively reached out to the owners when I received my fish due to a misunderstanding on my end and was out of line. I received a call from the owner personally after he saw my email and he explained to me specifics about the fish that I did not know even after being a discus enthusiast for the last 8 years. His patience and understanding was very appreciated and now I have found the new website I use for buying discus fish online. Thank you again! And I apologize for my impulsive, angry attitude. While the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly willing to help, my experience with the owner was disappointing and felt misleading. I purchased 20 neon tetras, acclimated them using standard best practices, and all died within the first day. No other fish in my tank (which includes various healthy non-aggressive species) were affected. When I called to discuss a possible credit or refund, the owner questioned my tank setup and acclimation process. Once I explained what I did, he acknowledged it was correct and told me, “Come down to the store—we’ll take care of you.” Despite the store being far from me, I made the drive based on that assurance. However, when I arrived, an employee stepped outside to call the owner and came back to say the best they could offer was a $5 discount. Had I known this in advance, I wouldn’t have made the trip or spent my afternoon in traffic. Bottom line: buy at your own risk. If your fish die immediately, even if you did everything right, you may be left without a refund, meaningful support, or accountability. RESPONSE TO OWNER: First, I want to clarify your comment — “we are the bad guys.” I never said that about your staff. They were helpful and friendly. This review is solely about you, the owner, and the way you handled the situation. I did not “kill them on my own.” That’s a ridiculous and unprofessional thing to say, especially from someone running a business. My tank is fully cycled, stable, and filled with healthy fish, including others I’ve purchased from your store before without any issues. I followed proper acclimation steps, and you even confirmed over the phone that I did everything right. You told me to come in and that you’d “take care of me.” That was a lie. I made the trip expecting integrity, and was met with a $5 discount and excuses. You wasted my time, dismissed the issue, and now you're publicly blaming a paying customer for a problem you refused to handle responsibly. Saying “we showed you ours were still alive” makes absolutely no logical sense. You’re a fish store. Of course some of your fish are alive. That doesn’t prove anything about the quality of the specific batch you sold me. If all 20 of the fish I bought died within a day, while every other fish in my tank is perfectly fine, then the issue was clearly with what you sold me. I didn’t ask for the same fish. I asked for a fair solution. You responded with blame, sarcasm, and pettiness. Your reply only reinforces exactly why I won’t be back. If anyone reading this wants a reliable, honest fish store where you can be a regular costumer, look elsewhere. The owner of this business lacks basic professionalism, accountability, and respect for his customers.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough money to afford the experience until 31 years later as an adult. I purchased some Altums from Gabe and experience was pretty good. Worked with me on shipping and fixed a situation really out of his control. He gifted me an extra fish as well. Gabe is a busy guy and he will have valid reasons to delay shipping if needed to make sure you get healthy fish. Will buy again if anything is needed in the future.

Experiencia negativa: This isn’t my first time ordering and so I was expecting the same quality that I got the first time however this was the complete opposite. I ordered three 3.5 inch wild green tefe discus. Shipping was not bad, however when I opened the box I was completely disappointed. I received 2 green tefes however 1 was a blue leopard discus. Not only that but they weren’t even close to 3.5 inches rather 2 inches at most. I contacted him through phone and explained to him that I received the wrong discus, but he kept insisting that it was a green tefe and he picked it out himself. I already have full grown green tefes in my tank so I am aware of what they look like. I expected better especially when I spent $300 for a small order of discus. It’s unprofessional to not respond to my texts and not give a solution when I call.

With in two weeks of receiving them I had a pair breeding. His Rummy nose and Cardinal Tetras are very high quality also. I have had 0 loss. Yes he is known for his Discus but all of his offerings are top quality and affordability priced. Gabriel in my opinion is the best in the business when it comes to service and quality of his fish and products he sells. I have 10 discus and 5 Altums ordered and can’t wait to receive them for my new 210 gal aquarium.

Excellent service, he really is just a call/text/email away for advice, fish health assistance, and order corrections (I added fish last min to order and changed fish last min ). The quality of fish are amazing too, colors; pattern; health; and size. I live in South Dakota, I ordered the fish on our coldest months. It is currently 3 degrees F with a wind chill of -13. They arrived from Miami, FL to my town in South Dakota in less then 24hrs! I also purchased the freeze dried black worms and beef heart. The beef heart has quality ingredients that has been great for my growing out my young discus. You can't beat the prices either! The last reason I'll continue going back to Wattleys discus. Their discus are bred and raised at their own hatchery and are cared for at a high standard. Which I believe to be important due to viruses, parasites, bacteria, imported discus can carry. Iv ordered 16 discus, here is a photo to show the quality of their 2.5" discus fish. This photo is 2 weeks after receiving them. I'll add more photos once they are bigger.

UPS used my fish as a football it seemed, out of 7 Discus I lost one, and another with a really bad air bladder issue from low water in the bags from UPS holding the box upside down. Experiencia negativa: I'm totally disgusted with my first order from your company. The cardinal tetra came with 1 sick and 1 other tetra that I can not ID. The rumminose tetra came sick, 8 DOA and at least 4 now hovering and shaking. I will never order from you again, not for the price you charge for shipping and for the trash you sent. Lost 10 more in the next 24 hours, just sad. 12 good out of 30 sent. All the cardinals made it, also the unknown tetra is ok. For old people without a digital camera, just out of luck.

Experiencia negativa: I ordered x10 Rainbow Tetras for $10.50 a piece. expensive for tetra, but they are "rainbows"... Instead, I received x10 Juvenile Emperor Tetras (worth about $3.50). The water they came in was freezing cold. Spent around 30min just to acclimate them to their quarantine. 7 promptly died the next day. I contacted the seller, and they sent another 7 Tetras for free. When they arrived their bag was directly on top of a heating pad, which cooked them alive. (im not kidding, COOKED!) Nightmare experience. Not only did they lie about the species, but they overcharged for the "fakes". AND they have no idea how to ship livestock. AVOID.

The smallest one is at least 6 inches which is truly exceeded my expectation, more than dealing with anyone else with this hoppy if you looking to buy any discus fish I strongly recommend you to buy it from Jack Wattley, because they are not only professional they are eager to make you even more happy

Experiencia negativa: Do not recommend this company at all. I had three gorgeous discus who never had any issues and then decided I’d add a couple more from this company based off the great reviews. Huge mistake! Now 3 of my 5 discus are dead just 6 days after adding to my tank. I tried everything to save my three year old blue snakeskin discus, almost two year old red melon discus and now the blue tiger panda discus I purchased from this company. Reached out to them about a shipping issue where one of the bags leaked and had barely enough water left when the fish arrived then received a reply to let them know how it goes and now no replies since explaining the issues I’m now currently facing. So frustrated and angry over the loss of my discus. Spent almost 300 dollars here for 3 fish just to end up losing 3 so far. Let’s hope the other two make it.

Gabe obviously quarantines well and maintains his system. I have been in the industry since 1972. I have owned my own retail tropical fish store as well as a wholesale company. Experiencia fantástica: I’m not new to the hobby but new to discus, and I was terrified to try keeping some until after I watched almost all of the provided videos on the JWD website/blog (kudos for having both English y español!). Your clear and concise, yet thorough explanations of discus care gave me the confidence to branch out and try something new! I ordered 6 small 3” Fine Line Red Pandas for what I considered to be a great value - and boy am I more than happy with what I received!!! All 6 were either right at or larger than what I expected (I used a tape measure before ordering to help manage my expectations just in case). Upon arrival to North Texas in our 100+ degree August heat, I followed all the instructions outlined in the videos and had zero issues whatsoever. I did notice some white stringy waste in the quarantine tank after I finished adding them, but if you pay attention to any fish keeper worth their salt - shipping is stressful and consequently fish may succumb to internal parasites as a result of that stress! THIS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE BREEDER OR INDICATIVE OF POOR HUSBANDRY PRIOR TO SHIPPING. Say it again for the people in the back!! When all is said and done, I felt I knew exactly what to expect from Gabe & his team at JWD, and I feel they exceeded my expectations. I would 100% recommend JWD based on this experience. Experiencia negativa: I received sick discus, the gill flukes. The right side gill look very bed. The fish stay in the hospital for 7 days now and the gill haven’t recover yet. And also, the fish have tail rot.

They'll ask how many you want of whatever it is you're after, and then they'll drop off the face of the planet and avoid you week after week after week. You will not get a quote. You will not get an invoice. You will not get any replies to phone calls or any other communications. What you will get, however, is wasted time and effort. Avoid the clown car that Wattley Discus has become and don't deal with that pony-tailed blow-hard, Gabe. ***Edit*** You see the way the owner responds to complaints? He'll ALWAYS lie and make it the customer's fault. Gabe, you are a lying worm. We told you EXACTLY what we wanted to order and you talked a big talk, all a bunch of hot air. When we told you what we want to order with the quantities that we wanted, you tucked tail and ran away, avoiding all other contact. Do you ever wonder why your reputation in the industry and certainly down in Florida is so terrible? It's because of that chip on your shoulder and your big fat mouth, always running about how awesome your fish are, what you can supply, blah blah blah. That sound you hear when you approach a group of people? That is the sound of them rolling their eyes at you! "Here comes hot air Gabe!"

After talking with Gabe (the owner) who was very patient and helpful I placed a large order for my 125g and the fish were delivered the next day in excellent condition!! The Jumbo Cardinals are huge and beautiful as well as all of the Rainbows. Once the fish are fully acclimated and stable I will be placing my discus order in September. Experiencia fantástica: Ordered 50 cardinal tetras shipped to Austin TX. First time ordering fish online and I have to say this was a great experience. You can track your shipment via order number, and send it to your home or pick up at airport. No fish died on arrival or after ( I followed online video on acclimating them). Excellent customer service, I would do it all over again and recommend this service to all my friends!

Experiencia negativa: Ordered a Discus, 10 Tetras, and 5 Catfish along with a big pack of Flakes and a big pack of Granules. In total, it is around $250 worth including shipping. By the time the package arrived, all the Tetras and Catfish died, and Discus was in bad shape. Took care of Discus after a few days, it recovered. I asked them to send tetra and catfish, first they agreed to take care but then later made a case that shipping is high so they offered to reimburse me the money. I didn't want my money back, I paid high shipping cost to get all the fish I wanted. I offered to pay half of the shipping cost and also added a bushy nose Pleco to the order to ease the burden, but unprofessional and arrogant ppl at Jack Wattley didn't even respond back. I'd advise you to stay away from them. They charge high for the shipping but take no responsibility for the state their products arrive. I've dealt with many online shops, and everyone charge less and always honor the healthy delivery of their product.

Experiencia fantástica: Purchased 12 rummy nose tetra and 12 otos. Received 15 absolutely beautiful rummy nose tetra and 12 larger otos. Everything was packaged great. One of the otos did poke a small hole in the bag. Being double bagged so tight saved the bag from losing much water. My only complaint would be the shipping cost. I wish I would have paid more attention to the shipping cost. I would have ordered more fish to make the shipping more worth it my own fault. Thank you Wattley Discus so much for such beautiful healthy happy fish
