We had to bring fish to surrender because my son's fish had babies and we couldn't have anymore in the tank. But this place has a lot of things. They have fish. They have reptiles,cats, birds, hamsters and even hedgehogs. It's fun! If you have little kids, take them for a little trip to a micro ro aquarium and small pet zoo lol

But Dominic is truly exceptional. His knowledge is unmatched, and he’s been a constant source of support and inspiration in my aquarium journey. Dominic is the reason I got into fishkeeping in the first place. I started with a simple 5-gallon betta tank, and now I have both a 36-gallon and a 20-gallon setup. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and ready to quit, but Dominic always takes the time to educate, encourage, and help me work through whatever challenge I’m facing. Because of him, I’ve stayed in the hobby and grown more confident with each step. He’s also amazing with my kids—kind, funny, and genuinely personable. Whenever I see him in the store, I know I’m going to walk away having had a great experience. I’m so grateful for his guidance and passion. Country Critters is lucky to have him, and so are we!

Experiencia negativa: Ok so i don’t know why everyone up in this place got some animal professional ego (Yall aren’t veterinarians!!!). i called a week prior regarding prices on sharks with intent to pick one up the next week. I was informed they had sharks eggs up for grabs and though i’ve had sharks before i’ve never had an egg so when i went there i tried asking mr. shark god (some short old dude) about care for the egg and bro looked like i had asked to buy a one so i cant throw it on the grill. I have a beautiful 120 gal saltwater tank and like i said before i’ve had sharks i know what they need and they just had an answer for everything i said i had for this shark. i had no fish in my tank so they got on me about bacterial water and i would’ve bought the already bacterial water that they have in jugs which they didn’t inform me about, but at this point i knew they just didn’t want to sell it to me. I left them my number, they said they would call but surprise they never did. I drove all the way from Queens, called prior to this visit, and clearly knew what i was doing. i even had a livewell ready in my car for this long drive. I’ve had saltwater animals my whole life and i work in the veterinary field. If you want grade A service and quality fish visit ✨BTJs jungle✨, they’re much more knowledgeable and prices aren’t as crazy. And for this place to know, if u got a problem with somebody buying your animals, don’t be scared to ADDRESS it. crazy

Experiencia negativa: Went to get a rat for my snake here, when i got home i dropped the rat into the enclosure not realizing he had diarrhea in the cup he was placed in. My snake instantly grabbed it and wrapped himself around the rat. Although this just happened there is a high probability my snake can get sick, have an infection or die. Not to mention, the staff there have weirdly rude attitudes it feels uncomfortable to go in every time…wont be going back after today.

They also have an excellent rewards program for their bedding and hay.. It's not your normal run of the mill pet store. I know people who go to country critters just to walk around.. Its a patchogue landmark. Check them out.

Experiencia negativa: Unfortunately I know someone who got sold a fish with a parasite that infested the tank and killed all of the fish worth hundreds. Tried to treat the entire tank but by that time it was too late we traveled 50 miles because we thought we could trust this place to QT correctly. Super upsetting.

They even have a baby kangaroo running around no pressure you can walk around take photos they don't follow you or ask a million times can I help you.. Country critters gets five of these ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. And the kittens are accepting deposits next weekend.

Experiencia negativa: I’ve only raised mice from feeders, who have lived long, successful lives. I understand fully what may or may not come with raising a feeder mouse to be a pet. I recently got one from another pet store. However my little one is old enough for a big tank now and I wanted to get another female around the same age (mice are social and do best in pairs or groups) my normal pet store is out of all feeders. So I went here and explained to them and they refused to sell the feeder as pet. I could’ve given a little mouse a great life. Very disappointed, will not be returning.

Experiencia negativa: Place seemed pretty awesome until I met 1 of the employees, a short older man that was insanely rude. He was with a customer so I just stood there by them both and waiting , I didn't interuot. Employee turns to me says how can I help you and I say what needs to be done in order to turn my tank into salt water, he says do you know anything about a salt water tank I said no so he asked what equipment do you have and I stated I'm not 100% sure and he goes well then I'm not selling you any fish so they can die then he rudely turns his back to me and starts talking to other customer he previously spoke with and says I'm busy helping this customer which I didn't interrupt him as he turned to me. Employee says we'll I don't even k ow what u have so I won't sell u any salt water fish so they did. That was never what I asked, I wanted to simply know what was needed to start a salt water tank then I told him he's so rude and he argued with me as I walked away. Hood job lost a customer forever

Experiencia negativa: This location has the most emaciated reptiles I’ve ever seen alive. they are charging $1500 for a sick uromastyx pair one of which has a deformed spine from lack of proper lighting, food, and supplements. Absolutely outrageous pricing, absolutely disgusting they are even willing to sell this animal in this state, and so disgusting to do nothing about it. You should be charged for animal cruelty. Please please switch your business venture or sell the company to someone who cares you are not fit to run this establishment. Please save these animals, anyone who reads this please look into their care for reptiles and report and blast them. This is unacceptable. I commented on their Facebook talking about their reptiles care and my comment was removed and I was blocked. I was respectful and I just asked the animals be researched and cared for properly.

Experiencia fantástica: When visiting my family up in New York, I came by this pet store. I always thought that people who look at a cat, dog, or some other animal and say that they begged to come home were lying. Now I’m not normally a pet person, but I knew that I was going to take home Lily. The fact that she looked lovely and taken care of, definitely a great reflection of this stores owner and employees. I guess I’m a cat person now!

Experiencia negativa: This could be a thriving store, but the owner is not a nice guy. I have been in the pet industry for 40 years. The positive is that it's a beautiful store and maintained, Too often understocked and overpriced. I understand how expensive it is to stay open, and that all prices to do so have increased. There are always people looking and not buying, and treating it like a mini zoo and aquarium. The Wallaby shouldn't be there, period. It's not proper treatment for such an exotic animal, and encourages people to keep animals that should NOT be kept as pets. Not a good example of responsible pet ownership. ALSO!!! Selling domestic kittens at crazy prices is disgusting. Please adopt at your local shelter! You will find a wonderful friend there!

Experiencia negativa: Horrible I purchased a bunny from there she looked alive and alert when picked up, and then when I took her home a day later she was sneezing and not eating too much hay and she got sick. She died. Be careful buying bunnies from there im assuming she was sick. I was heartbroken. I started getting attached to that bunny to find out she was sick. And I invested a lot of moneY there.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience here today. I came in with my daughter who is turning 3 in a few days. She’s been asking for a pet bunny for her birthday and after unsuccessfully checking chain stores in the area, I realized that this place was in our town and only a couple miles from our house. I didn’t know what to expect going in but had a wonderful experience. It’s much bigger of a store than I thought it would be and the staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming of a toddler coming in without a stroller. I held my daughter at first as we acclimated and then put her down when we got to the bunnies. All of the staff members who came by us were smiling and in great spirits with good customer service. Once I told someone we were interested in buying a bunny, a female customer service rep helped me and my daughter by giving us all of the information I need to know about bringing home a bunny and she was incredibly patient in letting my little girl pet the available bunnies and decide which she wanted. She was extremely knowledgeable about the bunnies and their policies and procedures for buying one. We made our deposit at the front desk with another rep who was great. We are so excited to pick up our new bunny in a few days and am so glad to know of this gem right by our house!

Experiencia negativa: I purchased five fish from them. Within four days, four were dead. Before I placed them in my aquarium, I tested my PH level. I floated the bag to adjust to the temperature. I tested the water from Country Critters, and the PH level was near 6.0. I then added my water to the water in the bag a few times and then let them free. They have quarantine tanks for new arrivals that are using the same filter system as all the other tanks. This could spread diseases to other fish. I don't recommend this pet shop for any type of fish. I am only rating them on the fish quality.

Experiencia fantástica: I adopted a bunny from here and I cannot recommend this place enough! They have the largest selection of fish I have ever seen at a pet store (including sting rays!), along with a ton of birds, reptiles, small animals, cats, and even chinchillas. As I only adopted a rabbit I can only speak to that process, but I am confident that any adoption experience would be good. For rabbits specifically, they ask to see a picture of your set up/cage to ensure that each animal is going to a proper home. They go over care instructions and have you purchase the first few weeks of food from them, which they make themselves, to make the transition easier on the animal. All of the staff I talked to were super friendly and knowledgeable. They said they get new rabbits every few weeks and typically take deposits ($20 minimum) up to a week in advance so that they can monitor each new animal to make sure it is healthy before sending it to its forever home. They offer nail trimmings at a very reasonable price. They also have such a wide selection of products at very reasonable prices. I don't think there is anything they could have done to make this a better experience. If you are considering adopting any animal, please give this place a try!!!!! (they also have a few pets that live at the store and you may even get to see their cat wandering aorund)

Experiencia negativa: I recently just adopted a kitten here under the impression the kitten had zero illnesses. Upon taking our kitten to the vet today, our vet told us that he isn’t neutered, has a heart murmur along with flees. As well an upper respiratory infection that appeared not too long after he was adopted on august 12th, 2023. I already paid $275 for the kitten, the fact that he was so many issues going on makes me worry for the other kittens in this facilities care. I’m sure they’re sick as well, especially if my kitten is. I understand it’s my responsibility to treat any illnesses after the final purchase but a reimbursement of some sort would be nice. Considering I already laid out $125 today just for the upper respiratory infection, I’ll also be spending I’m sure a few hundred to eventually neuter this poor little guy. All this money I have to pay out when I signed papers stating I was aware he was “healthy”. When he’s clearly not. This also prevents me from putting him on any pet insurance, because now they consider the heart murmur as a pre existing condition. They won’t cover the cost of any care he might need due to the condition.

Experiencia positiva: Bought two geckos for my daughter including a full tank set up. One did not have a tail the other was ill and had to have a portion of the tail amputated 2-3 days after we brought them home. They have you sign a form protecting them from "returns" and situations like this. That shouldn't be a tool used to sell sick animals. Geckos cost $100 each. Vet bill over $300 just days later.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently discovered Country Critters during my new found interest/hobby of fish and have been building up my beginner aquarium through them. From their wide variety of both fresh and salt water fish, too all of theirs products for them as well; it’s a one-stop shop for all of your aquatic needs! All of the staff that I’ve worked with thus far have not only been friendly, but also extremely knowledgeable as well. They truly show both interest in what they do and car for you and your pets needs. In addition too that; they have a large variety of other animals, reptiles, birds, etc. as well. Also, including all of what you need need for all of them as well. Based upon all of my purchases thus far; I feel that all of their pricing is fair and reasonable. I also just found out that they offer boarding for select animals, reptiles and animals as well. Which is good to know for the future; as I am currently a reptile owner and may potentially become a bird owner as well in the near future. I highly recommend Country Critters for all of your pets needs and suggest anyone/everyone on the island looking for an exotic pet store to try them out! Looking forward too continuing on building my relationship with the store and all of its staff.

Experiencia negativa: DO NOT BUY ANIMALS HERE !!!! I will NEVER buy another fish from this place. I have bought a $60 fish that died the next day, I went back and complained and they let me choose fish that would be equal to what I paid for the fish that died…once again ALL THE FISH DIED THE NEXT DAY. Temperature of the tank was always where it should be, I gave them food, I had a filter…I did everything correctly. I go back a year later and decided to give them another chance and get a fish. (This was yesterday 6/10/23). I step out for two hours AND MY FISH IS DEAD. I’m done wasting my money here.

Ive never had a single issue. They are also extremely knowledgeable. Cant recommend enough. Stocked a 75 with large schools of neons, glowlights, rummynose, kuhlis, otos, SAE and congo tetras with zero issues.

Experiencia negativa: this store does not deserve 4.5 stars. i genuinely dont think this place cares about their animals. i never write reviews but i got three rats from here less than a month ago. they came with respiratory infections and ringworm that got passed on to me. i now have to spend hundreds of dollars on vet bills. the store smelled horrid and there were flies EVERYWHERE. i don’t think they take good care of their animals and it’s honestly better to adopt your pets from somewhere clean.

Experiencia negativa: Go elsewhere. Just wasted a 30 minutes in the store because I wanted to buy livestock on my lunch break. It shouldn't take a half hour to spend money in a store when it's dead in there with 1-2 customers. I was invisible, didn't even say sorry for wasting your time. Too busy talking politics while slowly bagging fish. Forget that.

Experiencia fantástica: Went to country critters to adopt a bearded dragon and they matched me up with a beautiful girl with the most amazing soul!! Rob who helped me with everything also got a heat lamp off the top shelf for me (I'm short) and got some nice electrolyte soak cause I was out of it. Rob was very patient and very kind as I got to know this girl in the store. Thank you so much rob for the amazing service in the reptile isle!!! I so happy I get to give this girl her forever home during the holidays!!!

Experiencia negativa: Bought a 1 year old ferret from this place and she got sick the day after we brought her home. Thousands of dollars in vet bills we didn't even have her for a month and all we got from the money back. Also there was mold in all the bird cages. I do not recommend buying a pet from this store.

Dominic sold me nice fish and really helped with all my questions, we were on covet masks and I don’t hear well. He really was nice and knowledgeable. The selection was huuuuge! Go there it’s tops! There is a kangaroo there . No joke …. and many many months if not years later they are still taking care of me with special ordering feeder crayfish for my puffers. i would never even think of looking at on line pet places when my LFS is so good. Experiencia negativa: This place needs to be stopped. There are so many animals there that should never be in a petstore. I hate how people treat this place like a zoo, when there are really so knowledgeable people out there who could save an animal from a place like this. They have a WALLABY roaming around the place, which leads to a little kid wanting one. The concept is cute and all, but the fact that they have really high maintenance pets there is UNEXCEPTIONAL. For example, they have so many animals that need a lot of care that a 3 year old can't provide. I was just reading a review, and the saw a DEAD MOUSE. I'm discussed.

Experiencia fantástica: So glad to have found this place, they carry live mice and rats and all kinds of insects for your reptiles and snakes. The aquarium section is huge!! They also have a nice selection of different types of pets for sale. The staff is really nice and friendly as well.

Experiencia negativa: It hade some cool animals, but when i asked the lady can i hold a prairie dog she basically said if your not buying you cant hold them, so i was assuming it was for all animals so i left. Waste of time unless your looking to pay for an animal

Experiencia fantástica: I go to this store often and I love it. The staff is always kind and helpful even when they are busy. There’s a wallaby there that hides around different spots of the store. It’s name is Piper and it’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in a pet store. He has his own big enclosure but you can often find him sleeping on one of the dog beds lol

Experiencia fantástica: Lot of options for pets and pet supplies. Helpful and caring staff, just sometimes gets super busy. Even has a kangaroo and a cat that free roam the store and can be pet. You can also get a variety of exotic animals like prarie dogs and hedgehogs.

Experiencia fantástica: Me and my family love this store. my daughter loves all the animals and fish she can see, my husband had picked up the hobby of keeping aquatic life; he loves the verity and how helpful everyone is. It so clean too, even with many animals it doesn’t smell as such and animals look well taken care of.

Experiencia positiva: The fish selection is awesome! Tanks look nice and clean. Will be back to purchase new additions for my tanks. Lots of great products for all pets. Reptiles and small animals all looked healthy. Birds could look better but overall a very nice shop!

Experiencia fantástica: Just found this gem by mistake. Was looking for fish food and didn't want to drive out my way. The place is run by amazing staff that is so friendly. Its like a zoo mixed with an aquarium and it doesn't have an admission ticket.
