Blue Fish Aquarium is located near Grand Rapids, MI. We carry everything fish, reptile and pet. Blue Fish has dedicated employees that are here to help with freshwater fish, from rare cichlids and community fish to those striving for the ultimate planted aquarium. Our employees are also dedicated to helping support those interested in coral, invertebrates and unusual marine fish. The saltwater employees are knowledgeable with new and up to date techniques and equipment to help your aquarium thrive! In September of 2009, we opened up our reptile room to the public and now house many different species of reptiles from beginner species to much more advanced species. We are an aquarium store like no other in the area!

Experiencia negativa: No one even bothered to check on me. I needed help. So I left. What a terrible experience.
Experiencia fantástica: Large store, lots of choices in all areas. Generally more knowledgeable staff than similar stores in the area. Easy to work with for special orders and solutions not stocked.
Experiencia negativa: Very disappointed with the customer service and communication regarding purchasing fish. I called 2–3 weeks ago to order 8–10 catfish and was told they didn’t have any in stock but that their vendor did, and they would get them ordered. When I followed up recently, I was told my order hadn’t even been placed. Understandably, I was frustrated and spoke with the manager about the lack of communication. Instead of a sincere apology or any effort to make it right, her response was, ‘I apologize for how you feel about it,’ and she mentioned canceling my order three different times. Clear communication is so important—if I had been told upfront that they don’t place special orders, or at least been updated on the process, I would have been much more understanding and patient. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience.

Experiencia negativa: Great fish and aquarium supplies, horrific employee encounter. I was so excited to find blue fish aquarium, as someone who has had several 500+ gallon aquariums in my lifetime with an EXTENSIVE amount of variation in fish, I was completely dumbfounded when a sales associate approached me to scold me loudly “don’t touch the glass that fish is highly aggressive, please keep your hands to yourself” to me when I was simply pointing to a fish as he followed my finger. I haven’t been scolded and spoken to as though I was an unruly 5 year old in… actually never. The other sales associate seemed very kind and polite, but wow, that was quite the unpleasant experience.

Experiencia negativa: I went in looking for a certain fish, they were out of stock so the worker talked me into a acus farlowella. I asked about what they eat and the care needed. Everything he told me was wrong. So my fish (almost 40 bucks) failed to thrive under the instructions I was given, I tried to get an exchange or my money back/store credit. Im not new to fish keeping so this was a huge disappointment. The woman working was rude and didn't even want to deal with me. I wasn't being rude, I didn't even get a chance to say anything besides ask what i could do for exchange. I guess they only do a 7 day guarantee with some fish, not all. My problem is don't sell something you don't know anything about. All the information minus the name was wrong. Lesson learned for shopping here. I'm heartbroken about my fish and on top of that I got treated poorly. I doubt I will shop here ever again, and will no longer recommend this place to my hobbyist friends.

Experiencia fantástica: I love this place! We’ve being going there for years, sometimes just to see the beautiful aquariums and window shop - though have purchased a lot from them as well. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, we’ve never had any complaints.

Experiencia positiva: Saltwater tanks had few fish and some were even cloudy. Selection of dry goods was limited too. Never approached by any staff to see if we needed help with anything. They were right there shooting the breeze with people they seemed to know.

Experiencia fantástica: I had my first visit yesterday as someone who knew next to nothing about fish, turtles, or aquariums. I was recently given a free 55-gallon and 10-gallon tank — the larger one with just a turtle, and the smaller one filled with guppies. Naturally, I had a ton of questions about what fish could coexist with my new aquatic friends, the recommended male-to-female ratios, and so much more. Every single team member I spoke with (at least four of them!) was able to answer all of my questions — and I truly asked everything you could think of. I was so impressed by the depth of their knowledge, their kindness, and their genuine willingness to help. You can tell everyone there really cares about what they do. The manager, Pat, was especially helpful. Pat patiently answered all of my questions and even caught 20 fish for me — which I really appreciated. I would highly recommend this place to both new and experienced fish owners. Not only is the staff incredibly knowledgeable, but their fish selection is huge, they have all the accessories you could ever need, and their prices are very fair.

Experiencia fantástica: Great store with a huge selection of tropical fish, aquatic plants, and reptiles. Friendly staff. Fun to wander around and see their displays, but be sure to buy something while you're there to support this awesome store. The prices are very reasonable.

Experiencia fantástica: I been going here for over ten years. I kinda wish they would steer away from the dog and cats stuff because so many other stores have it. I also think they should charge a little admission per person like .50 cent for ppl who don't buy.(better than the zoo aquarium). They're displays are decent to great. They're aposphere is usually crowded and sometimes finding an employee isn't the easiest. I have never been treated bad, just when you go exercise patients. They will help you and are usually very knowledgeable.

Experiencia negativa: I would not recommend Blue Fish Aquarium. I used to be a regular customer of theirs and have spent a lot of time in the store as well as thousands upon thousands of dollars on their fish/corals/products. I just spoke to one of their managers Patty who was extremely rude. They definitely lost a customer. It's too bad they have gone downhill so much. Sean and Taiylor were amazing to work with. They were both very knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend giving Patty some training on how to communicate with customers and retain business.

We cannot guarantee the integrity of the equipment after a significant amount of time in storage has passed (whether the equipment was new or used), and it becomes too much of a liability for us to sell. Experiencia negativa: THIS PLACE SELLS DISEASED FISH. DO NOT BUY! THEY DO T OFFER REFUNDS EITHER, ONLY CREDIT FOR MORE DISEASED FISH. Edit: Who is Chris? This must be a common occurrence because you seem to think I'm someone else who also had the same problem. This probably wouldn't be so confusing if your business was more legitimate.

Experiencia negativa: DO NOT BUY FISH HERE. THEY DO NOT QUARANTINE FISH PROPERLY. This place will sell you a fish that is twice the price elsewhere, only give you 7 days to return it, and sell you medication when you tell them that the fish has a disease. Returned both fish for a refund that went to the medication used to treat infected fish. Out $23 to replace medication I already had. DO NO ACTUALLY BUY FISH HERE, GO TO VIPETS
Chris, after the interaction we had with you recently, we believe it is in both parties best interest moving forward that you will be shopping elsewhere. As with any form of livestock, transportation of fish is stressful for them, and while we do quarantine all fish that arrive at the store, sometimes when they are brought home they can develop sicknesses. There are also factors that are out of our control (such as water quality and stocking in your home aquarium) that can play a large role in the continued health of your fish. We would have been happy to have gone over that with you by testing your water to determine if water quality was a concern and offering potential solutions, but that didn’t even get to be a part of the primarily one-sided conversation. Having to navigate potential health issues over time is part of a hobby that includes livestock. It is clear that you must have known this to some extent as you mentioned you already had medication on hand that you used to treat the dalmatian molly you brought home from Blue Fish. When you walked in, it seemed as though you had no intention to find a mutual solution to the problem. You demanded we refund two fish (outside of our guarantee policy timeframe and parameters, and one of the fish showing no signs of illness), as well as replace medication you used to medicate (which was not purchased from our store in the first place), or you would write us the bad review we are responding to currently. As a business owner yourself, which you informed us of when here, you should know that being belligerent and rude to other customers isn't acceptable and for this reason we ask that you do not return in the future.
Experiencia negativa: I have been here twice and both times have been ridiculous. If your looking for service for saltwater pack a lunch because you will be there for awhile. Today I waited for over 45 minutes and finally I left. No acknowledgement from the worker while he carried on with another customer for what seemed to never end. In my opinion worst place in gr for service as far as the saltwater goes. Will not be back and I don't recommend. Go to watercolors or VI Pets. Both places you will be helped in a reasonable time. There was atelast a nice woman there that realized how long I had been there with no help and did apologise a couple times but she was working in a different section. Always lots of workers but both times I was there only one person working saltwater. Good luck if you go there. Maybe make an appointment.

Experiencia fantástica: I've known of Blue Fish Aquarium since they were in Jenison, now they are in Grandville. Always a very professionally run business which takes great care of all their fish, reptiles, & human customers! Jeff & his wife love their work and hire quality people to assist them in this work. I've visited many similar establishments in Michigan and across the country and hands down this is one of the best! I highly recommend them for all your pet needs. They always deliver great service and advice.

I'd give extra stars if I could. My only complaint is they aren't open enough hours in the day ha! And, I wish I lived a tad closer, but that's on me. This place is top notch. The staff are amazing, knowledgeable and helpful - the selection, quality and prices are unbeatable. Do your self a favor and stop in. Sad they took out some of the fw tanks. Was thinking of setting up my saltwater tank after a 5-year hiatus, but the prices of that hobby have gotten unreasonable due to harvesting restrictions, higher transportation costs, etc. Then again, maybe that's a good thing. In any event, will be back.

Experiencia positiva: Large store with good dry goods collection. The live fish area is large but generally contains numerous common species. If you are looking to get started this store is absolutely enough, but if you are searching for rarer species you probably won't find too much.

Experiencia positiva: I haven't had good luck with betta fish from this store (2/3 died within a week), but I will say they are incredibly knowledgeable and really know what they're doing there. They have a 7 day freshwater fish warranty as long as your water sample comes back within acceptable parameters, they'll replace the value of the fish.

Experiencia fantástica: I got started in freshwater fish around April of 22. The staff there was amazing with the help they gave me getting started. I have now expanded to 4 freshwater tanks and the staff is still amazingly helpful with all my questions. They are all very friendly and willing to spend time helping with question and purchases. They are my go to for all my fish needs. In fact, they are all so knowledgeable that I feel capable of now starting a saltwater tank with their assistance! I highly recommend them for all you fish needs! I have now added a salt tank and the staff is above and beyond awesome with all the knowledge and help!

Experiencia fantástica: I brought 2 individuals who had never been to Blue Fish Aquarium. Both women were on sensory overload from the moment they entered the door. Everyone on shift that day was super nice, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Both women have expressed their satisfaction with Blue Fish Aquarium and would like to return. (We live 45min away and don't often travel together)

Experiencia fantástica: If you are in the market for fresh water or salt water aquariums...this is a must stop place! Their selection of fish, plants, coral, tanks, filters, and tank decorations is perfect. I have now built 2 tanks in less than a year, one coral and one shrimp, and I'm sure I'm not close to being done. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Even when I'm just stopping in for food, I walk around to see what new things they have in stock to get ideas for my next setup.

Experiencia positiva: The store is absolutely fantastic, but you guys really need to maintain the shrimp tanks better. Before buying fish I always like to inspect the tank that they are being kept in first, but when I wanted to buy some red cherry shrimp I noticed that the tank they were being kept in, along with the other shrimp tanks, had a lot of hydra in them and one even had planarea.
Zachary, thank you for your kind words regarding the store! As for the shrimp tanks, it is hard to keep critters out of them without some type of carnivore. We have been bouncing around a few fish like pencilfish and bettas to try and help take care of some of the issues like scuds and flatworms! We think you will be happy next time you stop in though as we have begun a rehaul on shrimp kingdom. It was time for new substrate in the aquariums so it seemed like a perfect opportunity to start fresh!

Experiencia negativa: I was impressed by prices; however, my fish were infected with ich after purchasing a snail from blue fish. When calling to let them know so they can treat their snails to prevent any spread to others I was told that couldn’t be possible and that my perfectly fine tank’s temp must’ve dropped and killed my catfish. The o my change to that perfectly healthy tank was the addition of their snail. There was no drop in temperature and my pictus died from the ich seen on their skin. Very unprofessional and quite frankly uneducated.
Experiencia fantástica: This place is absolutely incredible, it’s by far my favorite fish store around! It’s a huge store and has absolutely everything you need, AND more. Shop at places like this NOT at a big box store!! Half of the store if dedicated to freshwater, they have a quarter of the store for salt water, and the rest of the store for reptiles and vivariums and pet supplies.
Experiencia fantástica: I have wanted to get back into having my own freshwater aquarium for years now, but had way too many other hobbies. However, a friend who was into the hobby finally spurred on my interest, and now I have a 32 gallon Fluval Flex, purchased from Blue Fish Aquarium. I've been going here consistently for a while now, and am very impressed with the expertise of their staff. They obviously are also passionate about their hobby, and willing to help share their knowledge with their customer base. As a source for fish, I am not at all concerned about the quality of their stock, and have had no issues so far. As a business, it is obvious they seek to have a reputation of quality, and it shows in how they maintain their tanks and fish. If you have any issues with your own tank, or need help deciding things such as fish compatibility, type of plants that will work for you, or have technical questions, Blue Fish Aquarium is a required stop in your search for answers. Absolutely I recommend this place to anyone who's been in the hobby, or is just getting into it. The picture posted was taken of my first tank setup after only one week of running. Started with just 6 harlequin rasboras, and after 2 weeks introduced 20 neon green tetras. Very happy with my decision so far, and I've had many long hours of enjoyment watching my tank!
Experiencia fantástica: 10/10 employees they helped so much (even told me where to get stuff cheaper.) they seemed like they really cared. The fish and reptiles were kept in larger tanks/enclosures than needed. The whole store is like a zoo, all of the tanks are beautiful. Not to mention how much variety there is. Fish and reptiles seemed very happy and healthy. Only thing is the prices are quite high but it’s worth paying more for the best service and healthiest critters. I will never go back to shopping at other stores THEY ARE THE BEST STORE EVER!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely love this place. I stop here all the time and have spent a ton of money. My only wish is that they would not put their male bettas in tiny bowls, rather I would like them to be in actual tanks. Other than that, I love it here.
Jacob, we feel the same way you do about the male bettas, but we make sure they get at least two water changes a week and most sell within 2-3 days of arriving! We do make sure they go home to larger tanks than the bowls we have here though.

Experiencia fantástica: This place is the spot. I bought my reptiles from them a year ago and they’re still thriving and happy. I’ve gotten everything I’ve needed and more on a weekly basis. Every staff members greets you and asks how you are. Exceptional customer service from a young and spunky staff. They take great care of every individual animal, I have to walk around every time. Can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Experiencia negativa: Zero stars. Spoke to the owner about shipping an item out of state, and got the OK. I purchased the item and provided the shipping label as arranged. Days later told me it’s not gonna happen with no reason or explanation. They have yet to refund my order. Will have to escalate with CC company. Put me in a horrible situation with no stand for 400lb aquarium. Very unprofessional & horrible customer service! Please take your business elsewhere!
Zach, directly on the product page of the item you purchased it says in red lettering "NO SHIPPING. In-Store Only Product - Please Call For Availability". Our owner was never asked about approving this purchase and the shipping label you purchased would have needed to be voided anyway. If we sent the aquarium stand you ordered in the box you bought a label for it would have arrived damaged, leaving you without a stand regardless and many claims would have needed to be filed to resolve the issue. Returns can take up to 5 business days to process from any business, but we can send verification again to a different email address if you would like. We initiated the return on June 28, 2022 at 8:48 AM and sent a follow up email with your receipt on June 29, 2022 to what looks like your personal email and again today, June 30, 2022 to your business email. Please email us if you need the return notification sent again and to which of the three email addresses we've communicated through you would like it sent to.

They have alot of products. There as well this is the best place in Grand rapids or the weat side of Michigan that I have found to buy mbuna Cichlids. Great place highly recommended.

I was beyond impressed with the cleanliness and upkeep of the in-store tanks. The employees were very helpful and happy to talk aquatics. The prices are very good. Previously I drove to Lansing for quality live specimens and I was very grateful to find this store closer to home and with great practices.
Experiencia positiva: This store has a TON of fish and a decent assortment of reptiles. Well worth the look if you're nearby, although they had very low inventory on reptile substrate when there and said they typically never have enough for a 120 gallon enclosure, 4-6 inches high.
We may not keep it on hand, but we do special order if you are ever interested! We can typically have it within 1-2 weeks!
