Experiencia negativa: Every fish and anemone I have ever bought from this store has died within the first couple months. I’ve done multiple water tests and there are no issues with my water. I have NEVER had this issue shopping at any other store. I have had better luck with fish from petsmart. They also charge more for most of these fish than other stores which is all the more aggravating. I spent $200 and a month later that money was absolutely wasted. I would not suggest this store to anyone I know considering that this seems to happen with both there fresh and saltwater fish. The store is very nice but the quality of the fish is borderline unacceptable. Don’t waste your money.

Experiencia fantástica: Best combination freshwater / saltwater / reef shop in nj. They have a bit of everything. Fish and corals are always in good health. Great deals on bigger tanks, especially if you wait for their seasonal sales. Knowledgeable staff in all areas, it can get a little crowded/ hectic during peak hours. If you have questions or want to talk about your tank go at an off peak time.

Experiencia positiva: Went to the store a couple weeks ago, it’s a beautiful store with amazing array of fish. My son and I were wanting to purchase a saltwater tank and service of installation. The young man that was helping was pretty negative, and it very informative at all. We were trying to let him know what we were looking to do ( a coral tank) And trying to understand the fish he would recommend for a coral tank. He deterred us greatly, which was a bit frustrating. We decided to purchase a tank/installion and monthly service elsewhere. However I don’t think that experience will stop us from going back. Maybe just having a bad day or something.

As soon as we came into the store our minds were blown. This is easily the best fish store in NJ. They had gorgeous fish that you can tell are well taken care of. We came home with new fish!

Experiencia fantástica: I'm leaving a review specifically for Luke H. This guy is absolutely amazing and deserves a raise and then some! He was patient and kind and most of all knowledgeable on EVERY fish and plant in that store. He answered all my questions and made the process seamless. My girlfriend got me a 6 gallon fish tank for Christmas in order for me to begin this hobby. I'm a beginner at this so I didn't realize the fish she initially bought were too large for the tank and it caused a major algae bloom that I wanted to fix. I informed Luke of everything going on and even showed him pictures. He instantly told me the dos and donts and what kind/how many fish can be in there as well as educating me on the live plants and how beneficial they are. I completely changed my fish tank from the ground up with Luke's guidance and it's now a beautiful living eco system all thanks to Luke H! I will continue to go to Absolutely Fish because of this great experience I had. Thank you Luke H!

We originally drove 1.5 hours to the store on a Sunday to get medicine for a fish that was barely hanging on. Justin not only gave us the right advice and pulled in Heather another disease guru, but he was so kind and supportive, genuinely wishing us luck. A few weeks later, we returned to buy an anemone for our other tank, and Justin remembered us and asked how the fish were doing—I'm happy to say they made a full recovery! What really sets this store apart is that even though it's huge, with an amazing selection and usually quite busy, the staff, make you feel like you're their top priority. It's rare to find such a personal touch in such a large store. We always feel welcomed and well cared for. Highly recommend Absolutely Fish for anyone in the saltwater community!

I have always loved tropical diving and due to my career, I can’t often jump up and go dive in Hawaii so I decided to set up a reef tank a few years ago to enjoy all my favorite fish I miss seeing while diving. I commend Anna who has helped me get my salt water tank to where it is today and teach me what I can and cannot mix. I also have the utmost respect for her and the owner Patrick. If there is ever a situation Patrick will rectify it. I will continue to use them for all my marine needs. The owner was very kind over email and told to come to store and we will take cate of things which i did and he was very generous in making my situation right and being very considerate. Experiencia negativa: Just left our second trip to Absolutely fish. First trip had a pretty good experience with two employees helping us get all the supplies and tank needed. We were also directed to look at the fish that we could fit into our 20 gallon tank. Left the store spending $500 on all these supplies. Headed back today just to find out from an employee we couldn’t get any of the fish we wanted because they didn’t do well with cycling or the size of our tank, even after we were told different the first time. Extremely frustrating experience. Employee did not seem confident in anything and just followed us around the store. Very unhelpful and insensitive to our 5 year old son who wanted his fish so bad!

They carry wayyyyy more than you think. From tanks with just coral to live rocks. A tank with poisonous fish. They even have starfish and stingrays. I saw eels and puffer fish as well. Even a koi pond and of course all of your tank maintenance needs. I recommend them to anyone who will listen.

Experiencia fantástica: This store has to be one of the most well kept for its size. They have a huge salt and freshwater selections from fish to coral and plants. They have excellent prices on plants but are very pricey on reefs and saltwater compared to other local stores. It does make sense having prices this high because they have such a huge store and excellent customer service. They probably had at least 10 people out on the floor helping customers. Will definitely come back for any freshwater and plant needs highly recommended.

Experiencia fantástica: One of the best fish stores that's local to the area. Pros: - All of the employees that work here are really passionate about what they do. When I first started this hobby in 2018 and they knew it was my first aquarium, they asked me a bunch of questions to make sure I was fully ready to take care of the fish I wanted. - The tanks are very well maintained. At other fish stores, I always see a dead fish or two in their aquariums or I see specific kinds of fish not getting the specific care that they need. The fish here are always swimming happily and any fish that have specific husbandry requirements are always taken care of correctly. Cons: - The staff seem a bit distant at times. It can also be a bit hard to find help sometimes because they are always busy. - The fish are a bit on the pricier side, but they are worth the extra money in my opinion knowing the care that they get.

Experiencia negativa: I bought a yellow and black Molley from here 3 weeks ago and today he started acting like he’s sick jerky movements and all… I went in there to ask for advice because I really want to save my fish and I went to an older gentlemen who I thought off first instinct was knowledgeable but all he was was judgmental… I preformed a 50% water change like I saw off google if fish was acting the way mine was acting… I took a video of the fish after to show an experienced representative how he was acting and he said your water is cloudy.. yea because it’s disturbed I just did a water change… then I tapped on the glass in one video so the fish could swim erratic like he was so I could show them.. he was very judgmental on that.. all I was trying to do was get some advice… I spend money at this store.. between this one and Lodi fish store I spend a lot after tonight it will only be Lodi… treat people with respect and don’t act like your not beat like you don’t care then don’t work here.. I am trying to save the fish I bought from your establishment

Experiencia negativa: Would’ve loved to take some fish home but didn’t get a chance. Hubby’s been dying to get fish for our aquarium from here for months. We got there and walked around a bit since it was our first time. It wasn’t too crowded, maybe about 4-5 groups/families some we’re getting help from staff. After about 5 minutes we asked a team member help and he said when he’s done with another customer. We said sure, then saw him helping someone else who’d walked in after us. So my asked another team member and he said he’d be right back, 10 mins later he wasn’t back. We kept seeing new people entering the store and getting help. They had a lot of variety and maybe that’s what makes them popular but more than 25 minutes and them helping others who came in after us, it was clear we weren’t going to get the assistance.

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely Fish has been my family's supplier for our 45-gallon reef tank. Before that, we shopped with them since I was a middle school student. The staff are beyond friendly and knowledgeable. Simply going in is like visiting an aquarium. There is straightforward pricing, and their advice on maintaining any tank has improved many people's experience tending aquatic life. I cannot recommend a small business in Passaic County that helps restore home tanks more outside sizeable corporate pet stores. For a lot of heart and a beautiful view, visit soon and ask any questions you have to the standout employees.

Experiencia fantástica: Great local fish store that is well stocked with fish supplies, food, medications, plants, and of course fish. We have purchased several fish here in the past and plants. Some of our fish got sick when we brought them home with ich and we had to treat them. The staff at absolutely fish was helpful in troubleshooting and offering advice on treatment etc. I would definitely purchase fish again but I learned the hard way that I should always always quarantine new fish and even plants before adding them to the main tank. They have a great variety of fish. We love mollies, platys, swords, angels. We have also gotten some great plants from here. Charlotte was an amazing store assistant who helped us pick out our plants and other things that we needed. We purchased gravel and driftwood here also as well as filter supplies etc etc. Sundays are very busy but if you can go on a weekday you will really enjoy being able to see the store and fish selection. Iam happy that we have this LFS so close to home!

Experiencia fantástica: Literally fascinating. Besides the staff being super helpful and super knowledgeable, I was shooketh. The fish are SOOOOOO COOOOOLLLL. We went to this store instead of the aquarium beverage I was having a “I want to see fish” craving and I’m glad we went here because we saw more than an aquarium would show us. We saw fish I’ve never seen before and you can buy them. We only came to look but it was great because now my husband has agreed to get a fish tank in the near future (he said maybe even a few) and we will go specifically here because we love it.

Experiencia negativa: big selection, but staff is so unbelievably patronizing. sure, ensure the well-being of the fish you're selling to me, but whys it feels like they think I'm a jerk? I hate coming here, and consider their supply a last resort even past big chains like Petco and PetSmart.

Experiencia fantástica: Exceptional experience with this place, the way employees caring about fishes and your home care for them is mind blowing. We been coming here for a long time with my daughter, started with one fish bowl abut she would come sometimes just walk around and see what they have new. Their year we bought reef tank from them and experience we went with everyone in the store cannot describe with words, they don’t just sell you they offer ongoing support, advices. So highly recommend this place and if you do not have yet fish tank please get one as it better then any other pets.

Experiencia negativa: It’s June 2023 time right now is 6:15pm.I just drove all the way from middletown New York . I live in Kearny New Jersey I drove like a madman knowing that they close at 7:00pm I arrive at 6:15 pm customer walked out the store with two bags of fish. When I went to open the door , the doors locked. Workers still inside. Print on door showing closing hours is 7:pm the time now is 6:25 but they had posted a paper sign saying 6:30 I never noticed that sign . All I want is a small bottle of brine shrimp eggs The worker told me they just closed the registers.” I told him you still have a half an hour to go. Can you at least grab me one off the wall ? I don’t need to go in . I told him the print on the door says 7:00 PM and the time now is 6:25 PM he said sorry I can’t let you in we just close the registers. He did not have to let me in . He could of just grabbed one off the wall for me . I would of been more then glad to have given him exact cash and not worried about receiving any change . I find that is so disrespectful and Unprofessional . It’s a nice store . And at times I do drop some good money in that store . But Im done shopping there. What a every bad experience. At time some of the workers make me feel like . The only reason why they even talk with me is because is their Job . This is why when I walk in there I don’t even say a word. look around once I know what I want I find someone that can help me . And I make sure to buy what’s ever inside the tank just so I don’t have to be hovering over them . Asking to pick this one or that one . And I go grab a bottle of brine shrimp eggs . And pay without even looking to make sure that the fish didn’t get hurt during the process. And just leave the store. It doesn’t feel nice to have to walk into a establishment and not feel welcome. I’m done with absolutely fish .

Jeremy Who is now my good friend was a great help through my whole start up. I now have many tanks that are healthy and properly set up with beautiful fish. Prices are compatible with big box stores and the fish here are healthy and not stressed. They are very passionate about aquatics. Took some time with my girlfriend to pick out the right pea puffer, had two females was looking for a male. When we decided which one, I had my girlfriend keep an eye on him until I was able to find some help. They were busy, I didn't mind, and was told to get on line.I was the first in line for fresh water. Took around 30 minutes before we got any help. The person who helped us was named Thomas. With Thomas following I directed him to the fish we were looking at. As he fished him out, it became unclear if he caught the right one, so I took out my phone flashlight to check for about 5 minutes. I wanted to make sure that I did not end up with a female. Thomas at this point was visibly peeved. He then proceeded to tell me, "Stop flashing your flashlight on it if this isn't the one you want." My girlfriend and I were stunned and taken back. We had barely had a chance to look, but was told to stop. The shop is dark, these pea puffers are 1 cm, and you can't but spare 5 minutes to allow me to look at what I'm going to purchase? I've been coming for years now, but I won't be coming anymore. Thomas, your service is ill-mannered and unprofessional. Absolutely Fish can do better.

Experiencia fantástica: This was our first time at this store. We were impressed with the many different kinds and quality of aquatic life. Rich Harris showed us around and was very knowledgeable and polite. He helped us pick out fish and plants that were suitable for my tank and experience level. He provided us with great tips on taking care of and enjoying our aquarium. Absolutely fish has great staff, quality and selection we will definitely be back. Thanks. Rich !!!

Experiencia fantástica: The staff here are amazing and sold me on getting an aquarium as a hobby. I was on the fence before visiting the store and wasn't sure how complicated the chemistry of the water and finding the right fish and equipment would be. I was helped by a number of staff through the day who were not trying to drive me towards a sale but were able to answer each and every one of my questions. I did not end up purchasing anything on my first visit to the store but I will absolutely be back in the near future once I am ready to buy. For the amount of assistance and knowledge I got in just a short visit I can not reccomend this place enough!

Experiencia fantástica: I've had some struggles getting my tank started after 20 years out of the hobby and I probably would have given up if it wasn't for the help from the staff at Absolutely Fish. Mike the freshwater manager in particular has walked me through the process of finding the correct stock for our tank. I travel 30 minutes past multiple other stores to choose Absolutely Fish and it's well worth it. The variety of fish here is excellent as are the aquascaping selection.

Experiencia negativa: Every single fish that I have bought here has died on me! The place is always super packed so you'll think that It must be a good store to buy you fish from but unfortunately my experience has been not great! All my ottos and rummy nose died one a day! And this is not the first time! But they do carry other products that are truly great and that is correct! But I guess maybe they need to care a lil more for their fish. That's my opinion!

Experiencia fantástica: The best aquarium supply store I’ve been to in NJ hands down. Excellent selection with beautiful, clean tanks. Helpful, friendly staff. Some exotic options that are not easy to find in stores. Will be returning every chance I get.

Experiencia positiva: I love to go here and look at the fish. They have a great variety. I will say though, the one time my boyfriend bought fish from here, a small school of them, they all died and spread whatever they had to the fish he already had, causing a mass extinction. He has not bought fish there since.

Experiencia fantástica: ABSOLUTELY love this place. I have had freshwater tanks for as long as I can remember and this place has always been the store I go to stock them. All staff are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. I have met the owner, Patrick, who is amazing and Cam who is a manger that will stop at nothing to help you out. Not once have I ever had a bad experience and have been and bought fish from them countless times. If I ever do get a fish that dies on me in a couple days after purchasing, it happens, they will replace it (given you give them a water sample and they determine it was in-fact a sick fish and not a product of bad tank conditions) with sincere apologies. The store itself brings me so much joy as I can tell they all really care and do their best to give the fish the life they deserve. I have brought my friends and family there at some point and they have all fall in love with the place too. 10/10 recommend. *Below are some of the fish I have gotten from them*

Experiencia fantástica: This is an amazing store for all your aquatic needs. They have a huge variety of salt water and fish water fish as well as soft and hard corals. The staff is very informative and helpful. I wouldn't recommend going on the weekend though because they don't seem like they know how to handle a rush and if you need help they won't give you as much attention as you need and you will feel rushed if you have questions.

Experiencia fantástica: In my wife and I's journey into the Aquarium hobby we've been to three different fish stores. We drive 35 minutes to absolutely fish because they clearly care about the fish, and are SUPER helpful/welcoming. One store we went to, one of the clerks basically outright said that fish can be basically ignored, and you could see them selling fish that weren't as healthy. On the other hand absolutely fish will put signs up saying they won't sell fish in a certain tank because they're being treated for illness. That's something that I think speaks volumes to what type of product they provide, and more importantly the care that goes into the fish they sell.

Coming in from Brooklyn, it was hard to find a tank by me and they were super accommodating as far as time goes and had great communication. From conversations I had with staff they all seem to be very knowledgeable. Going to have to come by for livestock.

Experiencia fantástica: Excellent aquarium fish store! Has a very good selection of tropical fish and aquatic plants as well as pretty much everything else one might need for this hobby: tanks, filters, fish food etc. As far as I can tell, they also have a big variety of saltwater fish and corals, but I'm not into saltwater, so take this with a grain of salt. Tanks are clean and fish are healthy. Lots of sales guys ready to help. Overall, this is easily the best aquarium fish store in the NYC area. Beware: quality comes with a price - this is definitely not a cheap place (not ridiculously overpriced either​). In the end of the day, fish bought from this store tend to live a long life and this is what matters.

Experiencia fantástica: I have to come back and spend the day here! Truly amazing store in so many ways. Mind boggling variety of fish, etc and everything looks super healthy. The fish & inverts I bought that day are healthy and thriving! Cam is a doll and patiently answered a bunch of questions even though it was almost closing time. My only complaint is this girl I was handed off to seemed pretty clueless. I intended on picking up a couple of Ramshorn snails, but somehow wound up with a couple of mystery snails. I don't know much about Mystery/Apple snails other than they get BIG. When I expressed my concern, she told me it would take ten years for these snails to grow the size of a golf ball. Turns out that's nonsense. The two I bought have quadrupled in size in 4 weeks. And no mystery snail lives for a decade LoL. So unfortunately I have to return these two, which is too bad bcs I really like them but don't have room in a nano tank.

Experiencia negativa: One of the worst customer service experience I've had in my entire life - if I could give them 0 stars, I would. Similar to the other reviews, there are 6 people hanging out on the front desk and no one to help you. One of the guys who I approached didn't even seem like he wanted to be working but was standing around looking bored. Mind you, they have a mask mandate and this guy was NOT wearing a mask. There's another review where the owner responded saying they are a private business that can enforce masks for the safety of their own workers yet their worker was not wearing a mask and it made me feel uncomfortable. I had to approach one of the guys working and ask him to help me, and he rolled his eyes at me. He rudely told me he felt uncomfortable selling to me and did not bother to explain anything to me. Right off the bat, it seemed like he didn't want to sell me the fish no matter what I said. I've done extensive research on tanks, aquariums, and the fish I wanted, and my friend, who was with me, owns multiple of his own tanks/ is also very knowledgable on fish-keeping. If you don't want to lose potential customers, I strongly advise you to properly train your staff on how to communicate with people. It seems like this has been an ongoing issue looking at the reviews and has yet to be resolved. Go to Fish Hut of NJ instead - they're only 10 minutes away and the staff there were extremely nice. All of them asked me if I had any questions and took their time to educate me on the fish I was interested in.
