Experiencia negativa: Wouldn’t recommend this store due to bad customer service. Female staff member think her name is Victoria, needs to work on her customer service skills, have dealt with her twice and found her to be rude both times. No hello when approached her asked for advice on an item all we got was it’s over there and she walked away. We were there to buy a new fish tank with all equipment. Luckily there was another staff member who we approached with a better manner when speaking with. We ended up spending $700 that day. Two weeks later spent another $300 was served by another male staff member. Third return well was served by the owner and nothing had improved with her customer service. I have and will not go back there again due to bad customer service from the owner. I have reward points that I can use there but I am willing to forfeit them due to the owners bad customer service. I live in New Windsor and travel all the the way to Albany or East Tamaki store and spend my money where the staff that work there actually enjoy assisting there customers and know how to say hello and have a smile on there face. Reading previous comments I am not the first to experience this.
We feel it's important to share our side of the interaction, as your review leaves out key details and includes personal attacks that are both unfair and deeply disappointing. First and foremost, it’s concerning that you chose to edit your review to name and target an individual staff member personally — especially someone who, at the time of your visit, was dealing with an extremely distressing family emergency. This was explained to you clearly in-store. Despite knowing that a close family member was critically ill and we were preparing to shut the store early to be by their side, you showed no empathy whatsoever. Instead, you continued to raise your voice, interrupt staff, and escalate the situation, completely disregarding what had just been shared with you. The person you referred to is, in fact, myself — the owner. I did not assist you during your initial visit. You were helped by a male staff member who sold you your aquarium. I only dealt with you once, and after that experience, I can honestly say I hope I never have to again. From the moment you walked in, your demeanor was aggressive and confrontational. You spoke over both staff members, raised your voice repeatedly, and eventually shouted to the point that one of our team members (the owner) — already under emotional strain — was brought to tears. Even after we tried to calmly explain the situation, your behavior only worsened. As for the aquarium light, which was the reason for your last visit, we made it clear it was being replaced under warranty at no cost to you. The delay was due to the supplier being out of Auckland and required some back-and-forth. Rather than calling for an update, you chose to storm into the store and verbally attack our staff. Your impatience and lack of basic decency made a difficult situation even harder for us. Frankly, your actions showed a complete lack of compassion and basic human decency. We ended up sending the replacement light directly to you just to ensure our staff wouldn’t be subjected to that kind of treatment again. Your review reflects selective memory at best — and deliberate misrepresentation at worst. We’re more than happy for you to shop elsewhere, and any store that ends up dealing with you is welcome to the experience.

Experiencia negativa: I don't recommend going BUT If you want to experience some awful customer service. I get it's the holiday period but when its the staff's job to help and be friendly to customers especially when they're being friendly to the staff and patient .. I don't expect to be spoken to like I'm nuisance demanding to much! I bought a Arowana from here and the staff member didn't even ask general care questions that should be asked when people are buying livestock. Eg : what size tank I have?, do i have any experience ?, etc. I got a "is that all?". Like come on. Atleast make it seem like you wanna be there. Hire friendly & knowledgeable staff please. Edit to response below: Im unsure as to what cctv footage you'd be looking at as i never specified which day or time I came. I do know for a fact that you guys have arowanas for sale most of the time I come in so its odd to say you checked cctv footage. Just confused as to how you can respond and say the interaction was different from what im saying when I never specified a time or date. I have no reason to write this review if this didn't actually happen. :) always wanting to support businesses whether they be local or international. Just expect a good service as i walk in as customer giving a positive attitude to those doing their job.

After reviewing our CCTV footage that day we feel the interaction you had with the staff member went differently to what you describe and there was far more conversion that what was stated. If you could come into the store and have a talk with the owner/manager we would like to make this right with you. 01/07/25 - In response to your reply - We’d like to clarify that the CCTV footage we reviewed was from our own store. Due to the rarity of the fish you purchased — which we typically only stock one or two of at a time — we didn’t need the exact date and time to locate the transaction. Additionally, as you had visited us on previous occasions, we were familiar with who you were and when you came in. We chose to review the footage because your comments in the review seemed out of character from our previous positive interactions. As we previously mentioned, the footage showed a friendly exchange with visible conversation and smiling between you and our staff member, which contrasts with your recollection that the only thing said was “is that all?” and that there was no discussion about your tank’s suitability. In our response to your review, we invited you to come in and speak with us directly. You have visited the store since then, but the matter hasn’t been raised. Our offer still stands — we’d be happy to discuss it further and try to resolve any concerns you may have.

I ask few questions to one of the staff and he said we are close at the moment if you need to ask anything come when we open the shop. Extremely rude and no coust9mer interaction. Hi Pratham, Thank you for your feedback. We’d like to clarify a few important points about your visit. You entered our store approximately 30 minutes before our official opening time, through a door that was closed. Our hours are clearly displayed at the entrance, indicating we open at 10:00 AM. At the time, staff had just arrived and were still in the process of setting up for the day — lights were being turned on, and not all team members were even present yet. Understandably, the staff member on site was surprised to see someone already inside the store with coffee in hand, as the store was not yet open to the public. He asked if you were okay and politely suggested returning in half an hour, once we were officially open and we would be ready to assist and answer any questions. We always aim to treat our customers with respect and provide the best experience possible. We would have appreciated it if you had waited until we were open, rather than leaving an inaccurate 1-star review. Small businesses like ours are deeply impacted by reviews, and we kindly ask for fairness and understanding in return. Thank you for your consideration.

Miss some of the old display tanks but hey, some things can't stay forever. The club/rewards system is great, along with periodic offers/sales on particular items. The selection of fish that come through the store has always been good from my experience. Already feeling the effects of multi tank syndrome haha! Will definitely be making more visits soon to very happily throw my credit card at the eftpos machine

Experiencia fantástica: I had been to other pet stores but was not very happy with my experiences at those shops. A friend at work recommended Hollywood and we went there and ended up getting a whole aquarium package. The guy who helped us was not pushy and didn’t pretend to know everything there was to know. Following their instructions has been helpful in getting our setup running smoothly. Their rewards system takes you back to their store and it is quite a long drive for us from South Auckland. But we probably will be going there for all our aquarium needs unless we find someone that offers the same or better shopping experience near our home. I would recommend the Mount Roskill store if you’re looking to set up an aquarium at home. They’ve got packages to suit all budgets and tastes. The variety of fish stock is also much better than their competitors.

Experiencia fantástica: Well, one of the main people there is very patient, considering the time and inane questions I asked. Oh, like, will this work on its side, having been designed upright? Or can I avoid water changes using an ammonia filter? Ha! Yes, they are good. The new air pump is actually noisier than my old one, but ok, it was dying, so I guess that should not be a surprise.

Experiencia positiva: Store prices are not the same on the website. Didn't check the website price while in the store, thought the price went up since I last bought from North Shore store, I didn't know north shore and Mt roskill are fun separately until at checkout. The shop manager(?) refused refunding the fish or price difference. I'd think twice if going there again. Massive confusion led to unpleasant purchase, unfortunately.
As a response to your review we would like to point out the following: Some prices can differ from in store vs online prices. Yes, the Mt Roskill branch is independently owned. This was discussed with you even before we caught the fish, we said we would match the Albany price you said they were. When you saw our multibuy you decided to go for that rather than the single fish price as you felt that was a better deal. Only after you got home did you decide to try and get a refund on your purchase, as you stated you saw the online price that was slightly cheaper even though that fish was currently showing as out of stock online and you said at the time our multibuy price was better. Both shops source fish from multiple suppliers so pricing does reflect this.

Experiencia negativa: Great shop, nice and friendly staff, great selection. Unfortunately, I purchased 2x Apistigramma that had fin rot. Being relatively new to the hobby I was not aware at time of purchase. I would have thought the staff were aware (or at least noticed during bagging) and advised accordingly. Hopefully these fish can be brought back to heath.
Hi Evan sorry if you feel you had a bad experience. We strive to make sure our livestock is in good health before sale. The Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid that you bought can appear to have a ragged tail/fins sometimes which could be mistaken as fin rot. The fish was in good health the day previous to purchase. Could you please get in contact with us as we would like to rectify this if you are having a problem with them.
