The Aquatic Habitat

Fantastic experience: We moved to Brockworth this weekend in 32 degree heat and the moving van with the fishtank in it broke down en route. We rushed to the Aquatic Habitat with our bagged up fish frantically looking for help which they very happily provided - they looked after our fish for us over the weekend whilst we got our tank move sorted. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Without their kindness we dread to think what would have happened. Lovely guys with a gorgeous selection of fish, equipment and plants. We will most certainly be back!

Fantastic experience: Roger at Aquatic Habitat in Brockworth literally saved the lives of all my fish. Moving country (OK Wales to England but shhh) and I have all my fish, the removals company unfortunately get a puncture with my tank and all my equipment. I drove straight to AH to beg for help, even having to buy a new tank and filter just to keep my fish alive. Roger very generously takes all my fish and out them in a quarantine tank and kept them for three days until I could get my tank up and running. Absolutely amazing! Customer for life! I love it when Aquatics centres care as much about the fish as I do! Thanks again from all my fish, and that one giant shrimp!

Staff were friendly and knowledgeable with helping me pick out suitable fish for my aquarium and all the tanks were lovely and clean with a variety of fish to choose from. Overall, we were very happy with our visit to The Aquatic Habitat and will no doubt be back for more fish in the future !!!

Negative experience: 40 minute drive to be told it's closed at 5pm, despite what the website and Google says. The 2nd time I've made this journey and managed to leave with nothing.

Fantastic experience: Visited this morning. The manager couldn't be more helpful and the team was very approachable and friendly. I'm a complete novice with aquatics, he advised the most suitable pump, filter, fish and plants to suit my proposed pond. I will definitely be using The Aquatic Habitat for future purchases.

Positive experience: Visited Shurdington Aquatics many times, more so this year and have always found the staff to be helpful, very knowledgable and a great understanding of what I need. I especially like the layout of pond areas and plants are easily spotted. I love a visit there and can highly recommend for purchase of fish or the greatly stocked plant areas. I have never had any problems with ‘infected’ fish and staff have gone out of their way to help with anything I have needed to purchase Fab aquatic centre, I’ll be back

Negative experience: Honestly the worst place you can go for fish keeping advice and product. Staff at best disinterested, at worst they give out incorrect advice. Go to maidenhead aquatics in cirencester instead

Negative experience: Really can't recommend this place. Both times i've purchased fish from Aquatic Habitat, I've wound up with infected fish. The first time I purchased a female betta, whose fins I'd assumed were just ragged from being in a community tank. Just a week later I realised the fins were infected (unfortunately she had a pink colouring which made this hard to tell). She got swim bladder disease, and deterorated rapidly until i had to put her down just a fortnight into having her. I've never lost a fish prematurely like that from another supplier. After putting that down to bad luck I bought some cherry red shrimp from them (weirdly, the guy corrected me that they were cardinia, not neocardinia). Two weeks later, these shrimp (which were pretty expensive, £8 ea.) have Ellobiopsidae - which must have originated from the shop as it takes weeks to become visible. I had no reply from the shop after emailing them, not even an acknowledgement they would quarantine their sale tank. I wouldn't buy from this business at all - you're risking the health of your existing tanks. Dry goods range is pretty good, they stock a cool range of fish, but husbandry of the fish is very poor (in my opinion) and even on a busy saturday morning there are often long-dead fish in the tanks.

Positive experience: Not a bad place. They have a reasonable variety of fish on offer. The facility itself is uncomfortably warm and poorly lit. I was given incorrect information about when some shrimp would be ready for purchase, prompting a pointless trip to the shop.

Fantastic experience: Been having issues with my aquarium recently and the time and support they offered was amazing. They could have easily sold me plenty of different options but instead were honest and transparent with what they have previously found works the best. Issues have now been resolved and I'm really grateful for all the help! Great staff and plenty of stock.

Negative experience: Very disappointed. Their website says they sell outdoor fish from mid-March onwards. We turned up at the start of April to find the fish in quarantine because it was still too cold. Would it take much to just update your website for prospective customers? I travelled 20 minutes for no reason based on duff information given on the website. I would also point out that most other fish stores sell fish all year round, since they have the correct facilities to house them without the weather being a factor. Won't be bothering next time, I'll drive the extra ten minutes and go to Aquajardin in Newent!

Fantastic experience: Fab place. Setting up a new tank - they have all been so helpful in giving advice and testing our water to ensure the tank was ready for fish. We've been in numerous times over the last few weeks. Although local, I wouldn't go anywhere else for anything tank/fish related.

Negative experience: Called the other day only to find it was closed. Because of the caronavirus yout can't actually walk round to look at fish. Apparently you have to tell them what fish you want and they bring them to you. Don't like that idea, I like to see the fish I'm actually buying. There are other places that's got a much better layout, so you can see before you buy. Or I'll wait till things improve.

Fantastic experience: What a great experience! Needed a new pond during lockdown as ours had sprung a leak; not only was Aquatic Habitat considerably cheaper than online suppliers, they delivered it at no additional cost and couldn't have been more helpful. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Would give 10/10 for the staffs attitude. Very warm and welcoming, not to mention helpful. I would say to others marking a bad review to educate themselves before buying. Right now it's harder to get what you need but the gentleman who took the phone call was very helpful in pointing out what fish would be suitable for me and my aquarium. At the end of the day, they are your property and responsibility once they've left their tank...so whatever you have, make sure you can give them the correct environment until they naturally die for us...thats meant ordering a 350L tank for others it could be a 700L. One bad thing is that the prices could be a little lower, but with quarantine I would bump the price up to. I mean for 2 super red plecos, 2 rose barbs, 5 mixed guppies, 2 plants, 2 amano Shrimp and some algae sinkers for £80. So yeh, pretty high price but from what I've already seen the quality is good...otherwise I wouldn't have came back for more. Great work and I will be back when I have more room! :)

I was disgusted my friend bought 5 tropical fish he was with his parents so I didn’t want to interfere but no one asked about size of tank whether tank suitable for so many fish nothing was asked at all. I just hope my friends fish last cos if they don’t I will be putting in a complaint.

Positive experience: One of the rare independent fish store in the region, which may explain the marginally higher prices for common fishes. Fairly clean and well displayed. Staff were helpful, although one of them want very knowledgeable about South American cichlids. They have an unusual way if naming common cichlids.

Negative experience: Although all fish are kept well, the concern for the fish ends there. While in store we overheard staff giving out false information about the size fish grow to which would ultimately result in a decrease in quality of life.Barbs were mislabelled and could easily be solved with a google. Although it is a business, care to the animals is vital. Very very disappointing.

Negative experience: Although they seemed to have a wide selection of fish, being new to fish keeping was in need of advice and help. They didn't come across as very welcoming when I went there so after looking at a very small choice of things to furnish a new tank, I left and went to Aquajardin. I am so glad as they were so helpful there and have continued to be. I imagine that The Aquatic Habitat would be good for seasoned fish keepers but for me as a newbie, it was no good.

Negative experience: Aquatic Habitat has ample parking and easy access via either their own door or that of the adjacent garden centre. Building is very tired, smelly and dirty. Visited on a day when there were two staff members present and one other customer. Staff neither acknowledged me or seemed at all interested that a customer had walked through the door and back out again. Fish seem to be on the pricey side compaired to most other Cheltenham and Gloucester companies. Decaying fish also being eaten by other fish in one of the tanks.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant place to get fish/fish related paraphernalia. Staff are knowledgeable and there's a good range of plants, tanks, fish foods etc.. Sometimes it's nice just to have a wander around! The Wyevale garden centre attached is also great!
