š£ļø Tynemouth Aquarium: Reviews
Positive experience: There was a little wait to get your stamp to get in the price wasn't too bad. There was too many people when we were there we felt rushed around. At the seal show there was no point going as the small deck area was full, but you could sit on the grass in front of it but it was hard for me to see let alone a toddler, and the sound wasnt very good so we went to the small play area, stayed there for a bit and as we went to see more of the fishes the seal show ended, we sort of got ushered through the tunnel to the end. The good bit is that you could go through it all again which we did but it was boring so we left and went to the beach
Positive experience: Nice place with lots to look at and friendly staff. Took just over an hour to go through and you have to pay to park.
Fantastic experience: The aquarium is quite charming and appears to be thoughtfully designed for young children, with all the exhibits placed at a height that is easily accessible for them.
Fantastic experience: Lovely day out not huge amounts there but lovely few hours out
Fantastic experience: A great little marine-lover's excursion. They have a fantastic array of sea-life to observe, from a gorgeously inquisitive octopus, an immersive reef-tip shark tunnel, educational seal performances and beautiful sea horses and cute axolotl. You can spend a over an hour looking around and it is worth looking up the feeding times to really see the animals in action. The ticket is a little pricey, but the money does go towards care for the animals, and they have a seal hospital on site.
Fantastic experience: Warm welcome when entering. Clear route to follow with a good selection of different fish and aquatic life to see. Lots of talks through the day which are informative. Car park next to the centre that has disabled bays and EV charging. It is a pay and display carpark - free for blue badge holders. Small play area outside for children on nice days. The only out door exhibit is the seal show, although you can see the seals underwater for an undercover area.
Fantastic experience: Great aquarium on the coast. My 2 year old loved it! It's a decent size (not too big but plenty to look at), and you can go in and out during the day - we went around twice. We both loved the seal show and baby seals, and he was so excited about the sharks and rays and eels. The staff were super helpful, helping us look for the elusive eel he so desperately wanted to see!
Fantastic experience: Great place kids loved it specially the seals
Fantastic experience: Great venue. Wouldn't take all day as fairly small, but can fill in a couple of hours. Several rooms with different themes. Underwater walkway with fish, rays and small sharks. Bonus outdoor area with seal shows a couple of times a day, plus a seal hospital on site which is run by local volunteers doing some amazing work.
Positive experience: A great place to take the kids but itās expensive for whatās there!
Fantastic experience: Really good well worth a visit food great really lovely
Negative experience: Tanks are not clean and fish do not appear to be healthy. No clear information and site is dirty and poorly maintained. Also a lot smaller than it seems on the website. Very disappointed for the price of entry.
Positive experience: Its an aquarium and is an ok visit but woukd struggle to make it a full day out on its own. Can be quite expensive unless look for vouchers/discounts. It is quite run down and a lot of areas could do with some maintainence. The fish and displays all are clean and well kept.
Negative experience: Very poor for the entrance fee. We've walked around everything in 30 mins for almost £34. Definitely wouldn't return
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit. Fun for all the family
Positive experience: It's a nice place to visit, but the seal show was dull, the staff truely looked and sounded like they were doing it for the thousandth time, with less life than the algae growing in the water. The restaurant served delicious fish and chips, and we're fairly priced id say. Good for kids, not much for adults, no real interactivity. For the price to get in, it barely scrapes worth it, not somewhere I'd rush back to at the price.
Negative experience: Staff friendly and a lot of effort in to education and activities for the children. However, the whole site is too small, there is not enough space or enrichment for the āattractionsā. The seals and the poor octopus were especially upsetting.
Fantastic experience: Great place and lovely location. Learned some new facts i never knew before. Would definitely go again. Didn't need to order tickets as during school term.
Negative experience: I visited Tynemouth Aquarium and was really let down. The place is small and doesnāt offer much to see. The overall experience felt rushed and underwhelming. The show was boring and clearly aimed at very young children ā nothing engaging or educational for adults or older kids. Honestly, it felt like a waste of time and money. Wouldnāt recommend.
Fantastic experience: I got the kid for a quid offer, little one loved collecting the animal stamps and finding the Easter eggs
Positive experience: Took the little one up I remember it a lot different when I was little not much there really it's OK for a little trip not very entertaining tho
Positive experience: A nice little run out to the aquarium, with the little one. At 4 months old, she still found it so interesting and was mesmerised by the different aquatic creatures on display. We loved the octopus, who was very curious and interactive with us. Watching the seals was brilliant too, twisting and moving around their spacious tank. The marmosets seem very happy in their generously designed environment too. Everything seemed well looked after and it was a great opportunity to see some really wonderful things up close.
Fantastic experience: Went to Blue Reef aquarium had a lovely time. The place is smaller than I thought but worth a good look around.Nicely set out so easy to view the tanks. We saw the seal show which is great!.Staff are very pleasant and helpful.Good choice of gifts at the end. Will be visiting again.
Fantastic experience: Amazing, first time here and will return. Lots to see with on site cafe, gift shop and wheelchair friendly.
Negative experience: Ridiculously overpriced for what is there. Staff are friendly enough but can't get over the price of admission, bordering on extortion.
Positive experience: Good aquarium, some boards are hard to read due to lighting. The kids had fun which is the main thing
Negative experience: I appreciate that there is not a lot of choice for comparison in this part of the country, but having been to several other UK aquariums before, it's clear to see that this particular example is sub par at best. From start to finish it was an unfortunately unpleasant experience. Website issues made online booking impossible, rendering the "exclusive online discount" pointless. Every member of staff on shift was a joyless automaton simply working the numbers, with the sole exception perhaps of the seal show presenters, who most likely have to appear somewhat cordial to retain their positions. The premises were packed beyond reason - something in desperate need of some regulation here, considering the aquarium walkways are incredibly cramped and linear by default. The exhibits were very minimalist, and many of the creatures suffer from undersized enclosures (or no enclosures at all, evidenced by the handful of derelict displays we walked past). We even spotted, alarmingly, some of the animals sporting fresh wounds. We had hoped the extortionate entrance fee would reflect an equally extravagant experience but we couldn't wait to leave. I feel obliged to take my son to a real aquarium as recompense for this shambles.
Fantastic experience: Great fun for all of the kids especially the big ones
Fantastic experience: Really lovely little Aquarium, very friendly staff, the seal show was the highlight for us
Negative experience: Review based on price vs. size. £60 for 2 adults and 2 small children. It costs less to visit the Cotswold Wildlife Park.
Fantastic experience: Spent a lovely couple of hours observing a wide variety of marine life all pleasantly displayed. Highly recommended and great for children!
Positive experience: I enjoyed visiting this aquarium. Loads of different species. The shark tank was my favourite. It is great to educate children and to raise awareness among adults.
Negative experience: The aquarium is very small and can be walked through in around 10 minutes. The tanks seem clean and well maintained, however, I was concerned about the size of the tank for the sharks and seals it appeared inadequate for their size. I was pleased to find that the entrance fee is put towards rescue and rehabilitation, that said the fee of around £18 for an adult seems incredibly steep given that it takes less than 15 minutes to see everything. Overall I would not recommend this centre.
Positive experience: A lovely public aquarium with really fantastic staff who were extremely friendly. The entire place is very well maintained (as we visited on a weekend, there were a lot of young kids around so keeping this place clean isn't easy but they did it) and the animals are all clearly very well cared for. I really appreciate this. However, our entire trip around the Aquarium was less than an hour (including the Seal talk) so the entrance fee (Ā£35 for two adults) seems very steep. The annual pass is probably great value if you plan to take kids there regularly though. Finally, as someone who keeps multiple home aquariums, I didn't see anything that gave me a "wow" moment in terms of the exhibits. I imagine the little ones would love this place, but I think there is a lot of potential being wasted in this space.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time here with my sister and nephew! We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely return in the future. There is a cafe onsite and all staff are lovely. There is a baby changing station in the womens toilets in case anyone is thinking of visiting with younger children. They put different shows/talks on during the day about different animals, I've seen ones on the seals & axolotl so far, and hope they do more in the future
Fantastic experience: Heartwarming and delightful Aquarium in the Picturesque Coastal town of Tynemouth with abundance of aquatic creatures and other wildlife to see. The building on the inside looks wonderfully bigger than it does on the outside and there are a number of areas to see including Ocean Tunnel, Coral Garden, Seal Hospital & Cove, World Deadliest Fish, Predators, Endangered Zone, Amazing Amazon, Tropical Seas, River Giants, Weird and Wonderful, St Mary Islands and Mississippi River and all of these areas have wonderfully dazzling awe inspiring displays of aquatic wildlife and a variety of wildlife to see. There is a lovely variety of wildlife to see in each of these areas including Marmoset Monkeys, Red Tailed Catfish, Giant Pacu, Clownfish, Sharks, Seals and Lionfish and all of these animals make for an awesome sight when close up in their tanks/enclosures. The Mississippi River displays showcases wildlife from the Mississippi area of the USA and in this area you can see Terrapins, Plecs amd Map Turtles. In the St Mary's Island it speak about native wildlife off the British Coast and local wildlife area Tynemouth and the wildlife seen in this area is Grey Mullets, Coley, Flounders, Sea Bass, Star Fish, Snack Lock Anenome and Undulate Ray. In the Weird and Wonderful you can see unique wildlife such as Scoprion Fish and Shrimps. In the River Giants it discusses the boiling river in the Amazon and also the River Giants that occupy it such as The Giant Pacu, Red Tailed Catfish and Polka Dot Stingray. In the Tropical Seas it showcases all the fish in the world's tropical Seas and also Coral reefs and in this area you can see Guineafowl Pufferish, Foxface Rabbitfish, Picasso Triggerfish and Arabian Angelfish. In the Amazing Amazon it showcases the wildlife found in the Amazon and you can see Marmosets, Red Footed Tortoise, Neon Tetra and Angelfish. In the Endangered Zone you can see the rare Endangered wildlife in the world and in this area you can see Axolotl. There is the Predators area where you can see the Predators of the Ocean and in this area you can see Moray Eels, Lionfish, Clown Triggerfish and Panther Groupers. There is Seal Cove where you can see a small host of Harbour Seals who are fabulously inquisitive upon seeing people and well looked after in their spacious tanks and the names of the Seals on show are Calypso, Loffe, Nova and Laura and the Seal Hospital which is an absolute fantastically unique part of this place rescuing Seals that are injured in the wild rehabilitating them before releasing them back. In the Coral Garden you can see all the plant life that make Coral Reefs such Vibrant places for wildlife and you can see you can see Hammer Coral, Giant Mushrooms, Bubble Coral and Bubble Tip Anenmone. The Ocean Tunnel which is the most dazzling part of this place where you can see Sharks and Rays swimming over you amongst other wildlife and is awesome sight to see and the wildlife seen in the Ocean Tunnel is the Cownose Ray, Regal Tang and Blacktip Reef Sharks. There is a cafe with a delightful range of Food and Drink at reasonable prices and there is a gift shop with a great range of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is an impeccably brilliant and spectacular place to visit and makes for a tremendous and awesome day out. Well worth whilst in Tynemouth.
Negative experience: So disappointed. They are just money scammer's been there today we walked around in like 20 minutes and there was nothing else to do so just came home. For 20 minutes people should not pay 17.95Ā£
Positive experience: Good half day out. Good variety of fish and sea life. However was quite pricey for the size of the aquarium. Walked round it quicker than we thought it would.
Fantastic experience: We've been visiting for years now, and our kids (7 & 12) absolutely love it. It's been really nice to see how much it's improved over time, and the staff are always brilliant. We recently had a birthday party here, which included a seal encounterāmy 7-year-old was over the moon! The aquarium isn't huge, but you can easily spend a good few hours, especially if you catch the excellent seal show and talks. It's also great to see the important work the team do at the seal hospital. Would definitely recommend, and we're already looking forward to coming back!
Fantastic experience: With fish of all shapes and sizes, the aquarium is a great way to spend a morning. There are regular talks / feedings plus the seal experience is enjoyable for all, especially if you stay out of the splash zones.
Fantastic experience: Really good value for money, and you can come and go as you please. What this basically means is that if you have young kids like we do, you can walk around the aquarium and then come back for the later shows, such as the seal show. Staff are friendly and my family really enjoyed it. The cafe is nice but probably a bit over-priced.
Fantastic experience: A good selection of fish as well as seals etc and you can go around more than one time it's close to the beach the car park cost £3 for all day my 1 year old was fascinated.
Positive experience: Smaller than expected and we found it a little overpriced considering we went round the entire facilities in just over an hour but it was a nice afternoon out. Super clean too and friendly staff
Negative experience: i was not happy what i see there nothing for kids to do or learn about the fishes .some tanks where empty. for the price. i went to see if ok for 7year to ten yr old would enjoy part of school outings . i have to find for there outings.your would bee over half hours then kids be bored. for money u pay should be cleaner and better
Fantastic experience: Visiting the aquarium was a delightful experience. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a calming atmosphere filled with the soothing sound of water and colourful tanks brimming with life. The layout was easy to follow, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. Each exhibit was well-designed, allowing close views of the marine creatures while ensuring their habitats were respected. One of the highlights was the large ocean tank. Watching sharks, rays, seals and schools of fish glide through the water was mesmerising. The glass tunnel that ran through the tank was a magical experience, making you feel as if you were underwater. The dark fish section was equally stunning, with glowing tanks that showcased the floating beauty. Staff members were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions. Their passion for marine life really stood out, especially during the feeding sessions and educational talks. These were not only informative but also made you appreciate the importance of protecting our oceans. There was even a small play area, which was a great touch for families. The cafĆ© offered a decent selection of food. Overall, the aquarium is a fantastic day out. Itās not just entertaining but also a great way to learn about marine life and conservation. Whether youāre a family, a couple, or just someone who loves nature, youāre sure to leave with a sense of wonder. Itās a place Iād happily visit again.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place, lots of things to look at and very knowledgeable staff. It's probably not a full day experience however great that you can come in and out over the day.
Positive experience: It could be cheaper with how small it is. The Annual prices aren't badly priced if you have kids though and I love the seal hospital.
Fantastic experience: Quite small but the talks and seal show are great. Especially good value for money if you live locally and can buy a year pass as you only need to go around 3 times to make it worthwhile. I would recommend to parents of under 3s as children that age go free and you can go with some frequency and they still enjoy it each time.
Fantastic experience: We always have a fantastic time visiting Tynemouth Aquarium. There are more exhibits than you might expect and the presentations and feedings are always fun. The staff are friendly and the cafe is pretty good.
Fantastic experience: I took my daughter for her 16th birthday as she had always wanted to go through a tunnel with fish swimming around her! I hadn't expected much as I had read it was pretty small, but I was pleasantly surprised! We both loved it! There's so many different creatures, and who knew we'd find monkeys?! The baby seals in the seal hospital were absolutely gorgeous. A thoroughly great day out, especially as you can wander along the beach, too.
Negative experience: It could be a great day out if staff was more helpful we only just brought a season ticket 3 days ago 169 pounds soon as we visit second time 30th December 2024 11 am .. the coin machines don't work so we lost out an no staff will do refunds claiming the machines are nothing to do with them but yet the machines are in there buisness shop... so it's very sad but we will only use our season tickit for entry an will not spend any money with your buisness... 1 staff member left us waiting 20 mins as he claimed he was new .. an didn't no about machines 2 nd staff member refused a refund for there machine whumich didn't work to a 7 year old boy with adhd behaviour bless him A real shame cos it's ment to be a happy place we didn't feel welcome after just handing over 169 pounds for season pass
Positive experience: A great day out for all ages. My toddlers particularly loved it, although we weren't there very long. It's a small venue woth lots crammed in, however there's not too many interactions for small people so they see one tank and move on to the next. An hour visit was sufficient but worth it
Fantastic experience: Visited today with my son who has asd & adhd, what a fab experience it was. The staff were SO lovely and they even let him feed the seahorses his favourite animal, made his visit so much more special. He was so so happy and canāt wait to come back āŗļø
Positive experience: Great little day out. It's not a huge place and doesn't need alot of time to walk around but, we saw everything, including the seal show and we loved it. Parking does require a ticket but £3 for all day is very reasonable.
Fantastic experience: Visited here a couple of weeks ago with my partner as part of our anniversary, as we both love sea creatures and thought we'd make a day of it. This is the second time we've visited, but this time we were here longer as we stayed for the informational talks about the river giants and the seals. Both talks were very informative, and the staff stuck around after to answer any questions we had. I really recommend visiting, and it's definitely worth the price.
Fantastic experience: Really interesting to see. Was there in time for feeding of the seals. Nice to know the little hospital there for injured seals. Nice day out for family
Positive experience: It's good, feel like it's pretty dim inside when walking through (not sure if it has to be that way for a reason) but otherwise everything is great especially for children.
Positive experience: Great selection of fish to see, however the staff at front don't seem the most transparent. they charged me my daughter to go in when she was under 3, but they didn't even mention it and I only found out this was the case on the way out, as the price board wasn't the most visible.
Fantastic experience: We visit a lot of aquaria as my youngest loves the experience so this was a real find. Only a small aquarium but very well organised and the staff were very friendly and willing to share their expertise. We attended 3 of the talks sessions which were all interesting and the boys were real interested in the well-presented and informative exhibits. Loved the floating magnifiers and the seal hospital! Weāll be back!
Positive experience: Nice facility, great way to spend a couple hours , staff were great , especially the reception girl Chloe, couldn't do enough, friendly and enthusiastic. Didn't use the cafe as great pub next door !!
Positive experience: Small aquarium but perfect for what we need. I signed up to the annual pass when my son was 6 mo ths old - it's a great place to head on cold/windy days. We went at least once a month, so worth the annual pass price otherwise a day visit is on the pricier side for the size of the aquarium.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely visit for my little ones 1st birthday! It was really quiet, took about 1 hour to go around! But you can come and go as you please which was great!
Positive experience: This is a great little aquarium. There is a wide variety of tanks with varying species. There is also a small tunnel where there are some decent sized sharks. The big show stopper here though is the seal enclosure. You get a great view of within the water by large viewing windows into their tank. Also strangely there's a small monkey enclosure here. The staff are very friendly and we were lucky enough to see the seal show. This is a great day with kids. Amenities are closed by with a cafe attached although the prices here are fairly expensive and you have to pay for parking as well as a fairly hefty admittence fee. If it wasn't for being an expensive excursion I'd have rated this 5 stars. I would absolutely reccommend checking it out at least once if you are local or visiting.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing not been for way too many years and won't be waiting too long to go back. The layout is great and the staff giving the talks are fantastic keeping the talks fun and with such knowledge they keep you engaged.
Fantastic experience: Place is great alot 2 see/do & you can come & go as u please as u get a stamp to reenter they have seal shows & talks for other exhibitions thry have a cafe & gift shop aswel. Only allowing me 2 put a few pics on for sum reason but its a lovely place
Fantastic experience: I took my autistic 7 year old son who loved every minute we were at the aquarium. There are plenty off sea creatures for children to learn about in a fun way and they can also learn how to protect their habitats. My sons favourite part was watching the seals and having a look at the seal pups. It can get expensive especially when going to the gift shop but for me personally seeing my son enjoy himself in a public space made it worth every penny. And after a good walk around the aquarium, there is a cafe and even a outside play area for the little ones.
Negative experience: Very small, not a great deal to do especially with the price you pay. We enjoyed it with our small baby, however expected it to be larger. No talks on despite being advertised.
Fantastic experience: Arrived just in time for the 3pm seal talk. That was great, very knowledgeable staff and little Nova working hard to complete his tasks. The seal hospital had two baby seals who were the cutest. It is a small aquarium but lots of sea creatures to see. We really enjoyed it.
Positive experience: A great attraction to visit, especially with younger children.and once in, you can go round as much as you like. Unfortunately it was raining heavily the day we visited so we had to give the seal feeding a miss. The cafeteria was good for food and drinks and great views of the seafront.
Positive experience: Small but a lot to see if you take the time to read the signs and try to find all the occupants of the tanks. Some of the entrance fee goes to the seal hospital on site who rescue injured seals. A standard ticket is valid all day so you can go in and out and back again if necessary. Decent cafe. The shop sells soft toy seals and other marine creatures as you would expect.
Fantastic experience: My 2 children are both autistic, and while members of the public may have made some awful comments about them as we went through the aquarium the staff were absolutely 10/10, the lady at the cafe gave my daughter a free ice cream when she dropped her first one which made her birthday, and at the gift shop my daughter was having a meltdown due to overstimulation and the staff at the gift shop were super accommodating and patient, they let me go grab the things she wanted for the staff member to scan and then she put them back so my daughter didnāt need to let go of her goodies. Cannot fault the staff at all they did an amazing job
Fantastic experience: Great aquarium, quite small but everything very clean, tanks well thought out and healthy fish. Great to see the rescued seals recovering too.
Fantastic experience: Nice day out with the family, also educationally for all. Yes, even us adults, lol. There is a playground and cafƩ on site.
Positive experience: Visited Tynemouth on our day off and thought we would visit the blue reef aquarium. Havenāt been for years and enjoyed it. Seals were great and loved the monkeys too
Fantastic experience: We enjoyed seeing the exhibits. All the animals were in great condition. The guides were very knowledgeable, and their talks were informative and interesting. Both ladies were good, especially with the children. The environment emphasis was instructional.
Negative experience: Me and my 8 year old had seen everything within 25 minutes from entering. I had put a £3 all day parking ticket, never did i think we would finish so quickly. Thought it would be much better for the amount we paid, we love aquariums and expected better.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience The facility is beautifully maintained. The wide variety of marine life, from colourful tropical fishes to sharks, sea turtles and majestic seals, kept me engaged throughout my visit. One of the highlights for me was the underwater tunnel, where I could walk through and feel completely surrounded by ocean life. Tynemouth Aquarium is a great destination for families or anyone looking for a fun and educational outing.
Fantastic experience: First time to an seaside aquarium in decades. Myself & hubby went. It was nice to go at our own pace. Lots of different fish, sharks, tortise stingrays... seals and monkeys. We spent an hour there. As I'm disabled ( wheelchair) I paid full price £17. 25 and my hubby got in for free as he is my carer. The Aquarium is disabled friendly. Being a Sunday and raining it was quite packed.
Positive experience: A really good day out for our five month old little boy, as he absolutely loves fish we thought this would be the perfect place to take him. It takes around an hour to get around Iād say if you took your time, but they stamp your hand which allows you to go in and out all day long so as our baby kept falling asleep during it, we kept stopping for drinks at the coffee shop and then going back around again so he didnāt miss anything and we ended up spending the whole day there! It had been 12 years since Iād last been and it never really changes but the seals and tunnel parts are great and they do talks throughout the day, the coffee shop was completely different to how I remembered it and was much nicer than before. There are many different species of fish to look at, itās a shame there werenāt any octopus or squid but other than that itās a good day out. I knock one point off though due to the fact that itās very expensive, it cost around Ā£50 for 4 adults and that was with one down as a free carer! Weāll definitely be taking him again once heās a little older but weāll just have to save up first!
Positive experience: Plenty of aquatic life to view from terrapins to seals and Amazon fish species. Good layout and catered for younger children. Takes around 2 hours to get around everything and enjoy most of the animal talks. Seal show is good, however more space needed to view on a busier day.
Fantastic experience: One of the smaller aquariums I have visited with my 5 year old, and one of the nicest. It looked clean & healthy, plenty of variety to interest a young one, and the talks/shows were engaging. Pricing was good on the kid for a quid summer offer and you can see how it gets used in the seal hospital. You can also come back during the day so nice to go for food or along the beach and then back in for another talk or last look at a favourite fish Lovely day was had
Fantastic experience: Always love visiting this place, we took our new born hoping he would enjoy the lights and movement of the fish but he slept the whole time, just means we have an excuse to go back soon
Fantastic experience: Was exciting as an adult .. Attended the seal show.. but couldn't see a lot of it but was still nice as info was very audible. Has good eating area in and out. Good parking next to it too 3 pounds for all day.
Fantastic experience: This is a lovely place for all ages. We were here while they fed the 'big fish' and your kids can have a turn feeding them. The staff are very informative and there is a wide variety of animals here. A water tunnel has small sharks swimming overhead and a large seal enclosure at the end has an underwater window. There is a large cheap paid parking lot but it filled up in no time so try to be early if you're driving.
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit. The tanks inside have a wide variety of different types of fish to look at, and they'll love the seal show.
Negative experience: I believe the space for the animals here is way too small. Also it was not so clean for the animals as it should have been.
Positive experience: No bad for the kids but struggle to get a full day out here, we did a loop around a couple of times and then the kids were bored (6yr old & 8yr old) for what you pay itās not brilliant value for money. Worth a visit - but wonāt be back in a hurry.
Fantastic experience: Really fun. Seal show was good, loved the monkeys and the underwater tunnel is awesome.
Fantastic experience: Nice little aquarium. Lots to see including seals and monkeys! Cafe on site. We'll stocked gift shop and plenty of toilets.
Positive experience: Really enjoyed my visit. Lots of interesting fish, some of which I'd not seen before. The piranha was in a very small tank for it's size & was all alone, which was a bit sad to see. The seals were entertaining. My absolute favourite is the beautiful trigger fish.
Positive experience: Lots to see great for kids with a cafe and shop within, didn't see an ATM or free WiFi maybe someone could comment. Toilets for all Inc disabled don't remember seeing baby changing facilities. But what put me off was the smell that like urine. Having an autistic daughter I would have liked to have seen some arrangements for her. It is very expensive for a family of 5 without vouchers do keep a watch on deals. Revisited glad they got rid of the smell sad that some of the exhibits are repeated or empty tanks. Why not offer some small presentations to help kids understand fresh water and cold water aquariums.
Fantastic experience: Love the aquarium. I hadnāt been since I was a kid myself. Itās smaller than I remember but itās good for little kids. Itās a little expensive given the size of it, but itās a nice couple of hours out and calming activity for a toddler. The food in the cafe was good too. You can park next to the aquarium for Ā£3 all day parking, though depending on the day it can be hard to get a space, and I believe you can use the same parking pass at parking spots up the coast.
Positive experience: A fun activity, price is too high in my opinion as the actual experience is over and done within 30 minutes. Decent selection of exhibits and animals but not to warrant the price attached.
Fantastic experience: Ample parking beside the aquarium for £3 for the full day. Entry price was £47 for two adults and our 3 year old granddaughter which allowed us full day access. We caught the last of the Rock pool encounter and got to see starfish up close, the river giants display was great with the chance to feed the huge black pacus and the seal encounter was fun to watch. Lots of photo opportunities with hundreds of different types of aquatic life. Food in the restaurant was delicious & the toilets and gift shop were easily accessible. Highly recommended .
Fantastic experience: Lovely aquarium with plenty to see. Can leave and come back throughout the day as you please too which is good as tynemouth has quite a lot to offer in the local area.
Fantastic experience: First time visiting for about 20 years. Really interesting and informative centre with cafe and pay-and-display car parking along from centre. Wide selection of international fish and sea mammals, with seal hospital and resident seals. Staff very knowledgable. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: It was lovely there, there were a big variety of fish, there were also seals and monkeys! It's good to research before going there about the times of the talks and shows they do with the the seals and the fish because we didn't know and missed the seal show. Highly recommend going there as the money from the ticket goes toward the rehabilitation of seals and the upkeep of the sanctuary.
Positive experience: We brought our 5 month old son, and he loved the experience. However, it is small and rather expensive. We must have only been there an hour or so, and it cost us £33 for two adults. I could imagine it being very costly if you had older children.
Positive experience: Not sure how you are supposed to spend 1hr 30mins here. Which is what they say on the website. I understand the entrance prices as they do a lot of support work especially for the seals. The prices in the gift shop are extortionate and price out a lot of children in this climate.
Fantastic experience: Great rainy day activity for the kids', exhibits are well kept and have lots of intresting fish. Annual pass is worth it if you can go more than 3 times a year.
