Negative experience: Disappointed by Experience ā Repeated Fish Loss & No Accountability Weāve been maintaining aquariums for nearly a decade and take great care of our tankās healthāwater quality, filtration, temperature, and environment have always been in check. Our existing mollies have thrived for over a year and a half. So when we recently purchased new fish from this store on three different occasions, we genuinely hoped to expand our little underwater family. Unfortunately, the experience has been deeply disappointing. First Visit ā We brought home mollies, but they were inactive from day one and didnāt survive long. Second Visit ā We were advised to try a different pair of mollies. Not only did they introduce velvet disease into our tank, but we also ended up losing several healthy fish that had been with us for over a year. We isolated them, treated them, and followed the storeās adviceāincluding buying water salt, conditioners, and stress relief products that cost us over $50. Despite all efforts, the entire batch died. Third Visit ā The shopkeeper then recommended barbs. We bought fourāand all of them died within five days. Over $70+ spent on fish, not to mention additional money we put into upgrading our setup (new heater, filter, everything), and still the result was the same: heartbreak and dead fish. What truly upset us wasnāt just the lossābut the response. While the store owner was friendly during purchases, he quickly shifted blame when things went wrong. There was no sense of accountability, only suggestions to spend more. We understand that not every fish thrives in every tankābut when multiple purchases fail only from one store, and no effort is made to either help or even acknowledge that something may be off, itās disappointing. This review isnāt out of angerāitās a reflection of real concern. I hope this encourages the store to reflect on fish health, pre-sale care, and after-sale support. Aquaristsāespecially new onesādeserve better guidance and fairness.

Negative experience: Iāve been a loyal customer of this store for over five years, but after this recent experience, I wonāt be returning and neither will my family. I purchased three platys on a Tuesday afternoon and explained to the owner Ray that I had a nearly empty community tank, housing only a bristlenose catfish Iāve cared for over three years and two rednose tetras. The next morning, my catfish was upside down in the water. When i tried to pick it up to put an algae wafer in it's mouth it was unresponsive. I regularly do water changes, and nothing in the tank was out of the ordinary. I called the store multiple times, no answer. I then went back in person, bringing my fish with me as it was still alive because it's eyes were still moving. The owner briefly held the container, said the water seemed cold, and advised increasing the temperature and placing the fish back in the tank because it's fins were still up. I told him I had a heater set to its usual temperature, so that wasnāt the issue. Nothing different has changed besides the water I mixed from the store when I introduced the new fish to the aquarium. The temp has also stayed the same for the past 4 years. He said he couldnāt test the water because there was an algae wafer in the container. I respected that, returned home, and came back shortly after with a clean water sample (I told him I would be back). Another staff member tested the water. He struggled to understand why I was there (broken English), and it felt like he wasnāt familiar with the situation that I explained. He tested the water - pH and ammonia levels were normal. He kept saying you just have to continue doing water changes. I asked to speak Ray, who I had already spoken to earlier. I was told he couldnāt be found, so I waited 10ā15 minutes before leaving my phone number for a call back that never came. Iāve followed up since, and surprise, still no response. It genuinely feels like the owner is avoiding me rather than addressing what happened. I sought a second opinion from another aquarium store today. After explaining everything, the staff there asked if I had added the storeās water into my tank. He said the water was likely heavily medicated, which overwhelmed my bristlenose catfish and sent it into shock. This critical detail, whether the store water was medicated was never disclosed to me. To be frank I think Ray knew what the issue was but just did not want to take accountability and the lack of communication to me is what killed my fish. No accountability, no follow-up, and brushing it off as a temperature issue is unacceptable. Also, if youāre going to have staff interacting with customers unsupervised, they need to be able to clearly communicate and understand basic queries. Itās not just frustrating itās irresponsible.

Negative experience: Avoid These Liars ā Absolute Joke! I honestly canāt believe the level of dishonesty and incompetence Iāve experienced with this place. Itās like theyāve made a business out of lying to customers and stealing their money. My wife and I paid a $300 advance on October 14, 2024, for a 6-foot tank, and they promised it was ready for delivery. Then, on December 16, 2024, we handed over another $2,390 with the understanding that the tank would be here within 5 business days. Well, itās now March 2025 and we STILL donāt have our tank. Instead of delivery, all we got were excuses. First, the tank was ādamaged,ā then it was āat the portā and would take another 10 days to get to the store. None of that was true. So, we requested a refund ā but guess what? They told us itād be processed in 5 business days. That was over 3 months ago, and still nothing. Iāve tried contacting them over and over again, but theyāve completely ignored us. At one point, they even had the nerve to tell me not to contact them anymore! These people are just scammers. Iāve got all the records ā invoices, screenshots of messages where they promised the refund, and theyāve done nothing. They took our money, gave us nothing, and now are completely ghosting us. Avoid them like the plague. Theyāll take your money and waste your time with lies and excuses. No tank, no refund, just total theft. Zero stars if I could give it.
Positive experience: The experience was great, But customer service wasnāt too good when we walked in Ray said hello but as we walked out we said goodbye and stuff but they ignore us! Tank quality wasnāt the best as I saw some dead fish in them. Other wise good place, Could use some more Fish varieties as some tanks were empty with just water!
Negative experience: Do not go to this place I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on fish to have more than half of them die in three days , and infected my other fish and they also died they were put into three different tanks and the water in every tank was tested and good , I will definitely not be going back there and I highly recommend for everyone to stay clear of this place . And when you go into the aquarium, lots of dead fish In the tanks they have no respect for animals

Negative experience: One of the worst behaviour and customer service, Iām in the industry for almost 11years and breed as well. This place is the worst of the worst to deal with. Sold him a lot of fish and he negotiated like no tomo and squeezed us to sell almost at cost, but was shocked to hear he has marked them up 600% to customers, when confronted he ignored and then later said it was called doing business. No R, this is extortion. Donāt encourage people like him. We the breeders suffer.

Negative experience: Sales attendants lack knowledge and I was given conflicting information and incorrect advice from multiple workers. Asked for a specific product and an array of products that are not remotely similar were suggested. Plants are not labelled and no worker knew what varieties they're. Fish seem healthy but I will not be returning.

Negative experience: Went in to get axolotyl food (new pet). Owner of store recommended and sold me king worms. Turns out the shell of the worms is too hard to digest. Axo vomit out the worm. Called the store but got a very cold response from the owner to throw the worms out.

Fantastic experience: AquaPet has become my destination store for my fish keeping obsession. Owner Raymond and his mate Lucky provide an amazing service with a large well lit and laid out store. AquaPet stocks a large range of species of freshwater fish and equipment and I always find what Iām looking for. More importantly we receive excellent customer service, thereās many places out there that brush you off for a quick sale and feed you information that can lead to heartache with wrongly recommended fish or equipment but we havenāt had that experience here. Raymond assisted my wife and I in introducing us to African cichlids and the world of large tanks and sumps and we have loved every minute of it and have achieved great success all due to being given the right information and service. This place is easy for us to recommend so much so we donāt mind the 200 round kilometre trip to go here.
Negative experience: Not much chop. Ordered 10 Tetras and gave me 9, no big deal. Just saying. Bought a few Jaguars Cichlids, which can grow to 15 inches did not tell me, lucky I knew, decent thing is to say to a customer just in case. Go elsewhere is my unprofessional advice.

Negative experience: Has nice tanks that are good value for money, avoid the ones with internal sump. However, that's where it stops. The accessories and products are extremely overpriced, the fish are all hybrids and extremely low quality. All the good brands have refused to do business here so can't be had. Many products available are rebranded to aquapet to avoid consumers to price match other leading stores like Techden, Amazing Amazon, Aquatico, Your Online Fish Store, Williamstown Aquarium etc. This makes it anti competitive for the consumer.

Negative experience: This shop is dodgy. Buyer Beware. I came to purchase some cherry red shrimp today after messaging Aqua Pet online and was told they had some in stock for $3.50 each. As per message, the yellow ones were $5 each. I was served by Kurt who looked for cherry red shrimp but couldn't find them and wanted to sell me yellow shrimps for $10 each. He dismissed me and went to serve another customer. I had to speak to him to look closely as I could see some cherry red shrimp in the small yellow fishbowl near the counter and some in the main tank (near the filter area). He then said he can't sell the red shrimps from the main tank, just the yellows shrimps. When he fetched me one from the yellow fishbowl, he said that it was the only one red one he could find. There were male red cherry shrimps in there that were slightly red and transparent. I asked him to look again and grab another one that looked red so that I can take two. He then said they were $5 each, not $3.50 as per message. I wasn't explained why the sudden price change. Furthermore, my receipt provided showed that I purchased 1 fish for $10. Not 2 shrimps. So I can't even get a refund or contest it. I was intending to purchase a huge stock of cherry red shrimps from this store today and in the future but from the dodgy and poor customer service I received, I am choosing to take my business elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: My partner and I came in just to have a look and to check this place out. We came out with driftwood (at really good prices), free mugs and exceptional customer service!! Raymond was extremely nice, helpful and knowledgeable. By far the cleanest aquarium store iāve been to and good prices! Will definitely go back for all my aquarium needs :)

Positive experience: Good staff members, but some of the fish aren't that well taken care of. I've seen multiple dead fish in the tanks. While the fish are reasonably priced, I do find that some of accessories (heating, lights etc) are more expensive than other stores. On the plus side, they have a large range of fish tanks.

Negative experience: My partner and I walked in and purchased some fish, a filter and some plants. We got talking to Raymond about our Signage business and he asked us to provide him with a quotation for some one-way vision film for his entry doors. He gave us the go ahead for the job. We purchased the blank media, made him some sample stickers and asked us for customer membership cards. We established which format the barcodes needed to be in so they can be read by his POS system and we were ready to complete this job for him. He was getting his suppliers to pay for the advertising so he would not be out of pocket. Once we did all the work, all of his communications stopped. He became unreachable and would no longer respond to messages. We walked into the store twice, once unannounced, once after an appointment. The first time we were essentially ignored as he preferred to help other staff put away a delivery of stock rather than deal with another business that he agreed to purchase Signage from . The second time he didn't even bother to be in the store for our appointment. How you treat another local business like this especially during the tough year that we have all experienced is beyond me. At least we can sleep at night knowing that we would never behave in this manner towards another business owner. Suffice to say, there will be no repeat business for fish stock or consumables. We'll take our business back to Coburg Aquarium.
