Negative experience: This place is now a disaster, and very high price compared to 5 month ago for the same fish. We drove from west as we got some good deals 5 months ago and now the price and double or tripled. Wouldnt go to this place again , unfortunately.

I visited in June 2025 to purchase some fish and fish food, and was genuinely impressed by the experience. The owner(i think he is the owner) was incredibly helpful, patient, and informative he took the time to thoroughly explain how to properly feed the fish, maintain the correct pH balance, and shared valuable tips for keeping a healthy aquarium. His genuine passion and knowledge made my visit enjoyable and educational. Highly recommended for both beginners and experienced hobbyists!

Fantastic experience: Melbourne tropical fish shop is a hidden gem! They have a great selection of healthy, vibrant fish, from bettas and guppies to more exotic species. The tanks are spotless, and the fish are clearly well cared for. The staff were super helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my questions and giving great advice on tank setup and fish care. I also appreciated the variety of aquarium supplies and decorations available. It's the perfect place for both beginners and experienced fish keepers. Highly recommended!

Negative experience: Absolute was of a drive. Hardly any fish stock, electric yellows seem to have sunken belly. No room to move even with two people. Place smells bad. Prices are also high for nothing but greed.

Negative experience: I went in store. The display tanks where gorgeous with many plants and diversity but unsurprisingly the beta fish are being abused in small tanks with no plants or anything, one I saw was dead at the back which made me very sad. They were sitting at the front with minimal movement obviously very bored and depressed. A lot of the tanks were dirty and the goldfish tanks were about 200L and there was probably 80 goldfish cramped into it. Most if not all the tanks had no gravel or plants or anything. Fish need to be happy and healthy, if you’re going to sell fish you need to not treat them like they’re not living creatures that deserve a good life

Negative experience: Horrible shop. Tiny, over crowded can't really even see what is in the tanks as you can barely walk in between the two isles they're so close together. Too many large comets in the one tank, they're literally swimming on top of each other. One of the tanks was being cleaned (I think) and almost ALL of the water had been removed. There was only just enough water to not even cover the fish. They were flapping around in destress. Maybe what you see online is very different to the shop, but after seeing it in person, there is no way I would shop there.

Fantastic experience: Used the online store to purchase a betta for my wife’s birthday. Was delivered 2 days later and appears very healthy. She loves its vibrant blue and purple colouring. Also impressed by their huge range of aquarium plants, much larger than what our local aquarium offers. Will definitely be buying from them again! Their personal touch - following up after the delivery to make sure the fish arrived healthy and safe was also great.

Negative experience: I was disappointed with this shop when I visited as the tanks were dirty and didn't have many fish (and had dead ones). I unfortunately bought some fish from them even though they looked sick, and discovered when we got home that they had ick and they died soon after. I'd say it's slightly expensive, but if the fish and tanks were looked after and monitored properly I'm sure it could be a decent place. The family is passionate about fish keeping but this doesn't seem to show through the quality of the displays and livestock.

Fantastic experience: I have never been a customer with Melbourne Tropical fish. I reached out to Ravi and the team asking for advice via email Re: A algae bloom that has taken hold of my tank. The tank is 540 litres including a sump with two largish tiger oscars. I included happy snaps of my (water dogs) They don't seem bothered with their green water, their owner is not happy. Ravi noted my tests of my water paramaters were all good. I have a 36watt UV sterilizer plumbed off the return pump which kills algae when operational. It appears may be not powerful enough to completly remove it. Ravi offered detailed solutions to address the issues I was having and offered advice anytime on issues I was experiencing in the future. For a company I have never delt with, their willingness to share their expertise and the fact I received a detailed reply the next day day speaks volumes. Seriously... Excellent customer service.

Fantastic experience: visited this aquarium recently just to have a look while we were passing the place. Even though we went there just to have a look we came home with lots of lovely fish. I was amazed to see the variety of the fish they have and how reasonably priced they are. In the past I visited so many aquariums as I have few fish tanks and couple of ponds. In the future this will be the only aquarium I’m visiting because of the amazing service, quality of the fish, variety of the fish and the prices of the fish. They have all the other fish stuff including food.

Negative experience: If you're going to have a website that displays what stock is in the store, at least keep it updated. Multiple times I've ordered and discovered "in stock" is not in stock at all. Most recently I was given the runaround for nine days, then told they couldn't complete my order. When I called to see if there was anything else I could exchange it for, I was hurried off the phone.

Fantastic experience: I did a search for Melbourne aquarium plants and fish for sale and found these guys with great deals. I wasn't keen on the postage options and thought I would have to let it all go but then realised I could pick up my fish in person from the premises. I rode my bike to them and grabbed the 10 Bristlenose fish and was on my way home in minutes. They have heaps of stock, of fishes and aquarium plants with plenty of your fishtank needs. I will definitely be back for some Aquarium plants.

Negative experience: QLD Buyers beware of Long postage and long wait times. Fish packed Monday the 13th of August ( 3 weeks after ordering Fish and Food ) and delivered the 19th Of August. Opened up the Shipping box to find a smell that only 7 days of fish in shipping with small bags and off bloodworms could possibly make. They got 1 star as after ordering products from Melbourne Tropical fish and plants, I received a msg from a worker to ask how I went shopping and obviously at the time it was great, until it wasn't and there are as never any explanation or reason for the delay. After missing a phonecall and being told twice I'd get a call back with nothing .I then e-mail with no response. Facebook was the answer and got a response, very short and sweet but at least it was an acknowledgement. Am currently waiting on a refund on this order. There are so many better places to purchase from.

Negative experience: Never get what I ordered. Listing of Discus needs updating. Out of stock listed as in stock online. Fish almost transparent on arrival,refuse to eat. All have white poo. 20 plus Discus all dead. Other fish from other businesses no deaths all thriving. 23 out of 23. 100% strike rate. Sold a Red Valentine when I ordered a Red Panda.

Fantastic experience: Seriously consider purchasing from this store! I stumbled across Melbourne Tropical Fish and Aquarium Plants website and I’m glad I did! I ordered a bunch of 5cm Blue Diamond Discus to grow out. I was concerned about ordering in winter months as shipping from Melbourne to Adelaide overnight with temperatures around ~6C isn’t ideal for any fish, particularly discus. I took the chance due to exceptionally competitive pricing and having spoken to the helpful staff regarding what foods they were accepting etc. Discus arrived before lunchtime the next day. Packed wonderfully. The heat packs included did a great job at keeping the water temp not plummeting and came in 21C all good considering! They were alert in bags, and after acclimating them they were surprising very active in the QT aquarium within 10 minutes. They were seeking out food and I offered them foods late evening and all eating within 6 hours. They should have no problems being treated for worms/external parasites that I do on all fish that arrive at my house as they are all very curious and their behaviour is what I’d expect for this age. I’ll definitely be buying from them again as it was such an easy and quality experience. Kudos to you guys! Thanks so much ⭐️

Negative experience: Couldn’t find the place, searched for 20minutes, did 3 blockies still couldn’t find the entrance or an signage in an industrial area. Traveled 1.5 hours to visit. Would have been good to actually view the shop front or at least one sign so we didn’t waste our time and energy.
