Fantastic experience: BonTour works with the Marine Station and offers a boat tour which including a guided tour of the Marine Station. We purchased tickets on line through BonTour. From the moment we boarded, Bridgette and Simone made us feel welcome with their warm, positive energy and enthusiasm for the marine environment. Their knowledge of the local aquatic species was truly impressive. We learned so much about the marine life in the area. They were engaging, professional, and made the whole tour both educational and fun. It’s clear they’re passionate about what they do, and their excitement was contagious. The station may be small but this package packs a punch for the cost. Great memory maker!

Fantastic experience: We came for a visit at the end of June. We had the a very positive experience. The timing must have been just right, because we had about three students showing us around the place and telling us all about their facility and their marine animals. The ladies were very knowledgeable and supper friendly. We got to hold some star fish and crabs. Also pretty cool they put all their animals back into the ocean at the end of the season. If you are in the area I would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: It’s a very interesting place to visit, not like the big cities aquariums, here, all sea creatures are from local harbor area

Positive experience: A well done story of the marine environment of this western Newfoundland bay. Enthusiastic staff eager to spread their knowledge. Worth a look.

Fantastic experience: My family had a BLAST visiting the aquarium, especially seeing the blue and white lobsters, as well as the touch tanks where we all got to pick up live crabs, lobster and sea stars. Strongly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Amazimg location with fun for the whole family if you like marine life or great views. The touch tanks are fun, and I love that the specimens are collected and returned annually.

Negative experience: The aquarium was closed, despite Google still showing regular opening hours. Disappointed that it was closed this early into Fall. The locals we spoke to were also disappointed that it was already closed, as they said it was a great family activity.

Fantastic experience: The Marine Station was a great place for marine life enthusiasts. The staff there are passionate about their research and the work they do. There is lots of information for self guided tour or ask one of the staff and they will explain. They have a couple touch tanks too with a few different species. Family friendly fun!

Our friends over at BonTours are the ones running the cod-jigging tours, it is always a lot of fun.

Positive experience: This Marine Station has a lot of potential to draw a lot of tourist back for a 2nd visit. It has some amazing eye catching sea creatures what most people will never get to see elsewhere. The staff really need to get more training to provide the full potential of what this Marine Station can really be. The staff wasn't very engaged with their visitors which was kind of a disappointment to most of those whole made the long drip to learn more about our ocean life.

Positive experience: Student guides were friendly and enthusiastic! Lots of hands on things to see and touch. A fun stop for the family in cute little Norris Point!

Positive experience: Good for a day with poor weather ! It is small , you can see over 50% of the area from the front desk so don't walk in thinking there is too much more. There are some static exhibits upstairs that were about the area and culture when we were there , and they were interesting. And there is an area behind the tanks that you can go with a tour guide. DEFINITELY time your visit to follow a tour guide through. You will learn MUCH more and get much more out of it. I don't think the entry fee would be worth while without a guided tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the field so it made this a great little stop for us while we waited for the sky to break before going kayaking out on the bay.

Positive experience: Great place run by Memorial University to see some of the local aquatic life: some holding tanks containing a variety of animals, and a touch-tank for the kids. Staff were friendly, and the young kids had a good time. A little expensive for the time we spent there, considering there is a similar (but smaller) exhibit at Memorial University in St. John's which is free.

We have done major renovations since you were here and have become part of Grenfell Campus of Memorial. We hope you will come again and see the difference!

Positive experience: Interesting aquarium, but maybe a bit expensive for the size. We didn't have anyone offer to talk to us about the fish, we just wandered around and looked at everything.

We are very sorry to hear that, I cannot imagine why that would be. Next time you come be sure to let the interpreters know about your last experience. It is much more fun with out new renovations

Fantastic experience: The Public Aquarium is pretty small, $20 for a family.

We are a medium sized aquarium in rural newfoundland but with the feel of a much bigger aquarium now we have done our renovations. Prices will be similar but updated for 2022 season.

Fantastic experience: Interesting Memorial University of Newfoundland marine research facility, worth a visit family orientated and includes a back room tour delivered by a knowledgable guide to get close up and personal to the local marine wildlife

Thanks Chris, since you came our interpretive public aquarium side is much more emphasized to include family oriented visits but while sneaking in the interesting research/science that kids love. you will have to make another trip.

Fantastic experience: It was with mixed emotions that we toured this impressive facility. Our daughter, then seven, was at times both startled and amazed at the sea life and tanks and enjoyed the descriptions of the young and energetic staffers. I found myself both angry at how we as a species can become so dependent on a single species (in this case cod) for our livelihoods and sympathetic to the population that suffered as a result of the moratorium on the cod fishery established decades before. It was heartening to see research being done on creating a sustainable and well-managed snow crab fishery and steps being taken to monitor the province's beautiful seemingly unspoiled ecosystem. The boat tour was grand as well, beautiful views of the surrounding bays and mountains.

Fantastic experience: The marine station was a perfect stop on a rainy day! They have several blue lobsters, cod, crab, and other various fish species on display. Lots of guided tours with lessons about the animals and history of the marine station. The parking is a bit of a pain and several cars were circling the small parking lot while we were there.

Fantastic experience: I had the privilege to be a Marine Biology Interpreter at this facility for a co-op term at my University. Even returning to the facility years later, the staff were friendly, educational, and presentable. Bonne Bay Marine Station is an excellent facility if you are wanting to learn more about the history of the area, and it's local species.

Fantastic experience: Well worth a visit. Exceptional site on the water, nestled in a working town, and though compact was informative and enjoyable. Bring a lunch, there's a nice beach adjacent. If we had time we'd try the kayaking outfit next door.
