Fantastic experience: Great selection of fish and a wide range of animals

Fantastic experience: Extremely Helpful Team and could not fault them. I had purchased fish from Pets at home and unfortunately they had passed the next day. Confused and upset I wanted a solution and had taken a water sample. They did not explain what was found on the testing but had told me that I had overfed the fish and that in order to get new fish I would need to empty out 50% of the water and another 25% and then come back in a week for further testing. When I had gone back to pets at home they had told me that the water conditions were safe for fish however as they weren’t selling fish on that day I could not buy the fish from them on that day so I had gone to Blakemere instead. I had purchased 4 fish from blakemere and unfortunately 3 of the fish had passed the following morning. I had felt very upset, confused and extremely guilty. I was able to save one fish and noticed as soon as I put it another tank (one that I had set up for a different type of fish hopefully in the future) the behaviour of the fish changed. I called to explain this to the Tristan at blakemere and he was very empathetic and helpful and had advised me to come in for another water testing. He had tested the water infront of me and had told me that the water that the fish were in was still not safe for the fish and explain each part of what each colour meant from the testing. And gave me advice on how to further care for the remaining fish. Unfortunately although the remaining fish was in a new tank with safe water they were already compromised from the living conditions in the previous and that fish has also died. Tristan was very empathetic and helped me to not feel guilty and gave me advice and a leaflet to help me to improve the quality of both tanks moving forward. Overall all the staff at Blakemere are very friendly, informative and helpful and are happy to take the time to help and explain what is best. It is very clear that they care for all the fish and animals and they have specialist for each type and are happy to answer any questions you have. I would highly recommend Blakemere and their extremely helpful team.

Fantastic experience: My experience here was fantastic the information and advice i received about how to get my first aquarium cycled how to check the water and how to add my fish when the tank is ready is very helpful to a Newby fish keeper also the fish prices are brilliant and they do amazing deals on the fish also. The young man I spoke to has his own aquarium and is knowledgeable speak to him if you need help brilliant

Fantastic experience: Visited the shop, looking for Bamboo shrimps. We were served by Daisy, what a lovely, polite lady, and very knowledgeable.

Positive experience: Visited once again today to buy my daughter another hamster as one just isn't enough it seems, the man who I originally dealt with seems a little nervous to talk and went to get his supervisor to help, upto viewing the hamster he dropped the poor thing on the floor, it didn't seem hurt or anything but quite shocking for a pet store worker to fumble it and it fall to the floor. On the other hand I keep fish and the supervisor was excellent, I had numerous questions and each one was answered with professional experience. He offered to show me how some of the food works by feeding the fish in store which showed me that the product was exactly what I was looking for. In short dropping a hamster on the floor could have been avoided if due care was made.

Negative experience: I'm no expert but I felt that the animals were kept in poor conditions. Too many animals in a small shop.

Negative experience: Wanted to contact the business directly with my concerns but could not find a link. Dropped in by chance and was shocked with what I saw. Tanks were falling apart and looked like they had not been cleaned in months. Detritus on the outside and in. Cleaning sink was blocked with gravel, plant matter and rust. I understand that a busy day means an evening clean up but it looked as though clean ups rarely happened. Staff were inattentive and chatting amongst themselves. I was looking to add to my tank but not only was I nervous to add fish from here I’m considering reporting the business to authorities. Please avoid until they clean up their act.

Positive experience: Marine section needs a bit of tlc. A few Aptasia knocking around in coral trays. RO/Salt water not the cheapest around. Corals very reasonably priced. Staff always very friendly.

Fantastic experience: Always helpful staff and full of advice with good prices

Negative experience: disgusting, tanks where all gross and they had female and male bettas next to each other with no divider!! all where clearly stressed and this takes seconds to research. no display tanks which clearly shows how competent they are. selling paired cockatiels separately, birds in tiny cages. they need their licenses taking away from them asap.

Fantastic experience: Great fish advice, Tris really knows what he is on about, good selection of very healthy fish, and often fish that you wouldn't find in other shops, it's the only place we use after having issues with fish from other shops

Fantastic experience: Fantastic aquatic centre with staff that are super knowledgable. Tristan helped us pick our new tanks, and gave great advice on how to start and troubleshooting beginners issues. The fish have all been high quality and healthy in the first 8 months we've been going!

Negative experience: Welfare of the animals is disgusting. How they are able to sell animals is beyond me. Rabbit with a clear skin infection on its neck and cage no where big enough. Hamster with its water bottle upside down and its cage crawling with flies. They seriously need their license taking off them for selling animals, never wanted to leave some where so quick in my life before. So upsetting to see.

Negative experience: The birds and rabbits are kept in a disgraceful manner. Cant believe this place is allowed to operate

Fantastic experience: GREAT SHOP AND GREAT STAFF have been going here for a while now, I'm so glad they survived lockdown. Update.. Still going strong I got some supplies recently and they manage to keep improving on their stock list!

Fantastic experience: Just starting a marine tank and went in to see what they had - it's just a few hundred yards from where I live and I'd never been in. Well stocked with all the hardware needed for all sorts of fish keeping and a wide range of fish fresh and salt water. What was really good was the friendly advice freely given and only the potential for some sale at a later time. All the tanks were clean, the fish and corals looked healthy and the air smelled fresh (no off-odours) giving a very positive impression. As a beginner at this, I can't claim any real knowledge but the overall impression was very positive, especially the way friendly and helpful advice was provided. I will be back! And next time, I'll spend some money! Yes I've been back several times to look at and buy fish and fish food. Always a friendly welcome. 28/11/2022 Back again for frozen marine fish food. Still nice and friendly but maybe fewer marine fish? Lots of different corals that look to be at a good price. And of course, lots of hardware, tanks, pumps, water purification gear, additives - you name it, this place has it! 08/02/2023 Dropped in for DI water (I let my set up freeze which caused the plastic to shatter! DOH!) And frozen food. Great selection of corals now in so worth a visit.

Positive experience: Visited recently and wasn't impressed with the variety of tropical fish. They used to have a much larger selection. I suggest you ring ahead if you are after anything in particular to save a wasted journey.

Fantastic experience: Tristan and his dream team never fail to surprise, surpass and stagger me with their knowledge and expertise in all fish and pet related matters, you are missing out if you fail to visit this home from home for animal lovers. Words allude me to do it justice so pack a sandwich and flask and spend a day with Cheshire Aquatics. PS I currently am not experiencing good health, what do i do? nothing because my Picasso trigger fish is at ‘Hotel Tristan for his winter holiday and i visit him knowing he is in superb company. thank you all ❤️

Positive experience: We go here about every month. Great place for corals but not a big selection of marine fish.

Positive experience: There is a good selection of accessories and parts for aquariums. The fish selection is good but the overall condition of the tanks is pretty bad. Lots of algae, dead fish and snails. Its a shame, the aquatics side to the petshop has bags of potential, it just needs a dedicated person to care about it.

Negative experience: Welfare of animals was quite poor. The birds especially seemed very stressed and displayed pacing behaviours which is a clear indicator of severe stress and boredom. The dwarf hamsters were labelled to have been in store since only 4 weeks which is far too young to be away from their mother- they should be at least 6 weeks. Rabbits were also kept by themselves despite being social animals and in very small cages. Animals very overpriced considering their lack of good welfare.

Fantastic experience: Lovely little pet shop. The fish we bought from here lived for many years (unlike pets at home ones). We have also had aquatic frogs from here that were really lovely. But now we are onto a aquatic turtle. All of the aquatic life we have bought from here have been great, you can tell they are looked after properly. My dog loves the dog treat aisle, plenty of treats and chews to choose from, and all quite cheap too. I would recommend going here for small pets, birds and aquatic creatures. They sell everything you need to set up and keep your animals fed too.

Negative experience: AVOID BUYING FISH FROM HERE! the fish tanks are in a shocking state, dirty and plenty of fish with whitespot and big red lumps on there bodys . on my last visit {10/2/22} i seen at least 12 dead fish in the fresh water section.

Fantastic experience: I hadn't visited this place for (14) years but little had changed, probably because it was already pretty good. Parking was easy, the store was well stocked & staffed. I found what I was looking for without problem making it a worthwhile visit.

Negative experience: Went here a few weeks back to get stock for two large new cycled tanks. I had a good wonder around before making my choices only then when I asked for assistance was I told I couldn’t be helped right now because another member of staff was talking in that section..” only talking not serving or selling “ and only one staff allowed to serve in there at any one time. After waiting 15minutes listening to male staff member tell a customer about his own personal tanks I walked out and spent a few hundred pound elsewhere. Awful customer service, I admit it nice to chat to customers but the stand there and not making sales drove this customer away to competitors. My advice go elsewhere

Negative experience: When visiting it was very upsetting to see a deceased rabbit. When a member of staff were told the response was 'oh ill sort it later'. It was very disturbing for children to see. Considering the prices they charge I would of expected the animals to be better looked after.

Fantastic experience: Was looking for large tank fittings and pipework - got lots of really useful advice from very helpful staff. Been back twice now for more specialised pipe work fittings. Also got good advice on availability and delivery of bulk fish orders +200. So will probably be back there again in the next month or so.

Fantastic experience: A great selection of fresh water and tropical fish, corals etc along with all the accessories, food, cleaning supplies etc you need to get a decent aquarium set up.

Negative experience: Good selection of dry goods and a decent tropical / pond livestock selection. Marine livestock is very limited and not a great variety which was disappointing. Whole marine system needed a good clean also although livestock looked healthy. I'd say ok for dry goods but for marine livestock, travel a bit further to one of the major players further north.

Fantastic experience: Good place to go for tropical fish and anything to do with them. They have lots of other pets too. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Negative experience: Very dissapointed with my recent visit and purchase of a water lilly. Within 24 hours of placing in my pond the water turned into what can best be described as milky coffee. I have had to completely empty my pond a thourough clean also filters and pumps and discovered lilly was potted in clay..which obviously caused the issue. 8 hours of emptying, cleaning, refilling and the loss of 2 orfs and a ghost carp all over a foot in size. Needless to say i wont recommend anyone who cares about there fish uses this place again. I certainly wont be

Negative experience: This use to be a few years back a really good shop. Been here a fair few times ever since, only because their crickets are cheap and get a good box full! However, the truth behind this store... The place is going down hill and only clearly care about money. No one seems to know what their doing depending on the 'area' but the person who does know isn't ever there. The reptiles, amphians and inverts are OVER PRICED and most wrongly named. Furry animals are in small cages with next to nothing for them, again over priced! The owners should be ashammed. You're a little store, why not care and focus on things you know and CARE about your animals and custom! You're bothered about money and that's it which as a business fair enough. But I'd rather support a small store like yourselves than a mass chain like Pets At Home! Sort it out, else I wont bother coming back, which is a shame as you use to be really good. P.S when I do come, I usually walk out and say 'Place has gone even more down hill'. Update, it's been some months since my previous review, and nothing has changed. If anything, we're closer to the bottom. Animals aren't looked after, the fish are kept okay conditions but everything else regarding livestock such as reptiles has pretty much gone. Fish are over priced also. Bring back the good ol' store you use to be and the staff need to SMILE.

Negative experience: Extremely rude member of staff, An old man who wouldn't know customer service if his life depended on it. I will never use this place again. Rather than saying we're closing he said I'd like to go home at some point today!!! It's overpriced with staff who haven't got a clue.

Fantastic experience: Went into Cheshire aquatics last week to purchase a tank and FREE gravel, and again today to purchase some fish, we didn’t come away with fish because we decided to get extra gravel (sand for catfish). We have been dealing with a gent called Tristan who is very nice, very knowledgeable and very accommodating with all of the questions we had. There is also an older gentleman there whose name we do not know but he is also lovely. Tristan tested our tank water for us so that he could see if the water was safe for fish, he also advised which hardy fish would cope better in the water as it is (still needs a week or so before we can have “ANY” fish). He also advised us on what fish can live together happily and which fish tend to be a little more aggressive. He is not pushy in his sales, very down to earth and we can’t wait to go back to buy our fish.

Negative experience: Very rude staff and ungrateful, wouldn't bother if you're looking for healthy fish from a clean aquatic centre.

Negative experience: Not a huge range of tropical fish. Saw 3 dead. Not impressed with layout of other live stock. Rabbits and guinea pigs kept in cages, stacked up in middle of area to walk around at waist height. Feel sorry for them.

Negative experience: Just warning people do not buy any Bird from this place I got sold 2 pennants and 1 died a week later now my other one is been back shop they didn't even sound interested at all so now I'm hundred and 80 pound down I allso got told birds were no older than 12 montn old but I've had them looked at they were a lot older I just got told when the Bird dies they will give me a bugie

Negative experience: Really terrible fish . Cruel and unpleasant handling . Unless you enjoy cruelty to animals I'd avoid this place.
