Negative experience: Their saltwater section is severely lacking in inventory and cleanliness. The saltwater section often has just a few species available with many near empty tanks. Everything is covered in algae and aiptasia. Coral selection is limited and very overpriced with many frags covered in algae and aiptasia. The Dimond Petco honestly has more saltwater fish selection and cleaner tanks which is kinda sad.

Fantastic experience: Always love getting new fish for our tanks here! Staff is very friendly and willing to help answer questions for new people to the hobby.

Negative experience: I've visited this fish store a few times, and I'm concerned about the fish care. The smell is unpleasant, and on my last visit, I saw two whole tank full of dead fish, which made me question the store's standards. Additionally, I felt like I experienced discrimination as a person of color. The staff seemed to prioritize white customers, and I waited almost an hour just to buy a plant. Because of these issues, I don't plan to return.

Fantastic experience: Today was my first time in and wow, I was impressed! The staff were super nice and knowledgeable and it is obvious they know about and care for their animals. While I have yet to buy an aquatic friend from them, the animals my friend has gotten from here thrive in her tank, when compared to animals purchased from big stores. Always love supporting local and will definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: I come here often to get things for my home tanks. I’ve gotten a great number of fish from Loaches to an Axolotl and more. I’ve also purchased a fair amount of aquatic plants. The crew here are super knowledgeable and helpful; it’s well worth the trip to stop by and scope things out.

Positive experience: This place is awesome! I'm so happy we found an aquarium shop in Alaska. They have an abundance of livestock and supplies. The tanks are clean and healthy. Cody helped us out and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. We loved this place and I highly recommend Alaska Coral and Fish. ***Update - have visited several more times and have always loved the place and the staff. So glad to have them. ***UPDATE*** It's been a few months since I have been in town when you guys are open but I was finally able to stop. I never really got to talk to anyone. The guy that helped me seemed annoyed I was bothering him and was not really chatty. He did bag my fish, took my payment, then just walked away and left me with 4 Boliviam Rams (that's not what they were labeled but that's what I think they are) in a single plastic bag, almost completely filled with water, no air, sitting on the counter and went back to cleaning tanks. I was like, are you serious? I walked outside, broke the rubber band trying to get it off, poured off the excess water and went back inside for a couple of rubber bands. I was ignored. I took the rubber bands, went back outside and correctly bagged my own fish without the benefit of a second bag or a paper bag or newspaper or, god for bid a styrofoam box to drive home 3 hours before I get them in the tank. I got the fish home, no thanks to your dude, the fish look pretty good, I'm happy with the score but your shop is not the same. It's not just dude scooping fish. A lot of empty tanks, dirty tanks, green algae on plants , things not as nice as they were the last couple of times. The dude that helped me the last couple of times seemed like he really enjoyed his job too. That helps. I'm honestly trying to help here because I love having you guys around. Don't lose what makes you different than the box stores. What I got yesterday was from the box store. Except the fish. I regret not getting the other 3 rams. If dude had talked to me a little and been personable, I would have asked about the price because there was a 3 for tag on them. The other long beard laid back dude would have been friendly enough, I'd have asked how much to take the whole group? Thise rams were a rare spot in that shop too. That shop used to be full of rare finds on the freshwater end. Maybe you are getting a new order in soon? Anyway, I hope this review helps, that's all I'm trying to do is help.

Fantastic experience: This is a faaaantastic store for fish, both freshwater and saltwater, as well as a selection of other aquatic creature, among them, these: FOR SALTWATER: - crabs, starfish, sea urchins, corals of all sorts FOR FRESHWATER: - shrimp, snails, beautiful green leafy plants Furthermore, the store's aquatic experts will not just sell you fish to make money; they'll give you advice from their years of experience. We went to their store to buy some fish for a band-new freshwater aquarium we had set up with tap water just the day before. But they cautioned us against buying any fish on this visit, because the fish might well die in the water that had not had enough time to clear chemicals that are okay for humans, but NOT okay for fish. That's the LAST thing we would want to happen for my toddler grandchildren to experience. So we went home with a hardy snail and some hardy plants... ...AND WE'LL RETURN IN A FEW DAYS TO BUY OUR FISH!! You're in good hands with these aquatic experts!

Fantastic experience: THE fish store in Anchorage. Employees are well versed in all things fish. All the supplies for any type of tank you could possibly desire, fresh or saltwater. Tons of livestock and plants in stock. If they don't have it, they can absolutely get it for you. Pictured are two bettas I recently picked up from them. They're the most active bettas I've ever recieved.

Fantastic experience: The guys here have gone above and beyond to help me get my tank set up and safe for fish. I struggled with my nitrates and nitrites and they tested my water for me, told me exactly what to use, and told me a good water “treatment plan” to stabilize my water. They’ve been helpful, friendly, educational, and informative. I felt comfortable asking all the questions I needed, and they were more then happy to answer them. Fantastic experience: I'm thrilled that I stumbled upon this amazing place. After a hiatus of over 20 years, I decided to dive back into the world of fishkeeping. Unfortunately, my initial purchase from a large retail store resulted in diseased fish. Thankfully, I discovered AK Coral and Fish, where I sought out medication for my sick fish. The staff here are incredibly down to earth and possess a wealth of knowledge. Once my existing fish were successfully treated and healthy again, I returned to AK Coral and Fish to expand my collection. From now on, this will be my go-to destination for purchasing fish. Their selection is truly impressive and I dare say, the best in Alaska.

I picked up some lovely ricefish that are in their quarantine, and they had some beautiful bettas on display. Definitely check them out!

Fantastic experience: I Love Alaska Coral, Tim the Owner is My DuDe. About 8 years ago my Daughter wanted to fish tank but didn't want to beta I told her if we're going to do this we're going to go big and Daddy's going to get a Shark. I got a 200 gallon saltwater fish tank and we chose an Australian epaulette Shark and they only get about 10 of them a year and United States for sale because they're wild caught in Australia and my dude Tim got me a perfectly healthy beautiful baby Australian epaulette shark they was already eating frozen foods and it's she was the most beautiful shark ever as well as he provided three different Dory fishes for my daughter's nemo tank.. so no matter what it is that you're looking for whether it's an exotic species or just a specific Coral if it has to do with fish or Coral Tim and Alaska Coral Tim's the Dude, and Alaska Coral and fish is the PLACE

Fantastic experience: Great place to get all your aquarium needs, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, the huge selection of fresh and saltwater is great and they have fish that you can't find at other stores, highly recommend checking them out.

Fantastic experience: Like most others, I love this place. So happy there is finally an alternative to the large stores like Petco/PetSmart whose practices with regard to fish keeping is absolutely atrocious. Unlike these large stores that’s give you incorrect information about not only compatible species but proper tank size, cycling, feeding, etc, AK Coral & Fish give sound advice & provide a much better environment for the fish while in their care. I live in Soldotna so whether it’s plants or fish, they always make sure they get home safe with a chunk of filter material (beneficial bacteria), more air in the bag, insulated box, etc. They’ve given me smoking deals on used equipment too. Love these guys. Keep it up!

Fantastic experience: Kid in a candy shop. I haven't bought fish in years because I need to set up a quarantine tank. I let down my boundaries because all tanks are separate at this shop are not on one big system and bought around $100 worth of tropical fish. Looking at all the tanks I suspected one tank had a ick and being in the candy shop unfortunately I purchase some of those fish forgetting my observation. After a couple hours I'm looking at my new fish at home & I noticed 5 rainbow tetras had ick. I separated them from my tank with the bags that they came in and proceeded to treat them heavily and a half dose of my own 55 gallon aquarium. I called Alaska Coral and ask them to check the tank where I had purchased the fish and they confirmed that the tank has ick & were totally apologetic & very helpful. It happens I even told the staff when I arrived every time I purchase fish I seem to get ick. I know people that purchase fish at Shady stores and never get ick.The staff was awesome and concerned & reminded me on ways to cure the problem. The rainbow tetras spent about six days in their plastic bags and I was concerned about them not eating. I had separated them into four different plastic bags as to have less stress and compatibility. Lowered lights. I have baby guppies which I fed them but not all of the tetris ate. IT all came out for the best they are swimming in my tank a month or more later. All new fish are very enjoyable. I will buy my fish there again because the staff the super knowledgeable and are very good people. They gave me their personal cell phones so that I could call with my concerns. Above and beyond the Call of Duty. Thanks Guys.

Negative experience: Fish health: 3 star Plants: 4 star Customer service: 1 star Product selection: 2 star If you go here, expect to waste half an hour just trying to get an employee to acknowledge or assist you. If you're lucky enough to get helped, the advice given is poor at best. The plants are reasonably priced but lose a star for poor packaging. If you buy fish from them be sure to check the tank for dead fish rotting on the substrate. Their selection of equipment and chemicals is extremely limited and overpriced. I will not be going back.

Fantastic experience: These guys are GREAT! My wife and I stopped by just to check it out and ended up leaving with several new additions to our aquarium. They really know their stuff also. Cody is exceptional. He helped my wife and I out during a very busy time of day but he didn't stop answering our questions and giving us advice until we were completely satisfied. Fantastic experience: This was my first time ever visiting this place. Pictures of this store does not do it justice, you absolutely need to go see for yourself how amazing this store is! Its fun to just look at all the types of fishes they have. They have all kinds of fishes that you normally see and don't see at the big box stores. Make sure to check out their bettas! When I was there, they had some gorgeous, giant koi bettas. I am definitely going to be visiting this store a lot more often in the future.

Fantastic experience: It looked like a really nice establishment on the inside and you could tell that all of the fish were really cared for. We got a pleco fish from a friend that was extremely neglected, yet somehow still growing and healthy. They said they were happy to take care of it and find it a good home. Melted my heart that they seemed to care about the fish almost like individuals.

Super cool supplies and gadgets for your aquariums, as well as amazing selection of fresh and salt water fish. They offer fish beyond the tiny sized ones at the other pet stores. They have full grown salt water fish, and even SHARKS! Prices are on par with what you would expect for the type of fish you're getting. They also have anemones and beautiful coral selections. If you're serious about your fresh, brackish, or salt water habitats, this is the place to go. Staff is extremely knowledgable and friendly, and locally owned. You will walk away feeling like you were their most important customer, whether you're spending $50 or $1000. Give them a visit and say hello to the fishies! :)

Positive experience: I really love this store. The staff is knowledgeable, they regularly have sales for used tanks, and are happy to order whatever livestock you're interested in. My only complain is their bettas. I know cups are the norm, but it breaks my heart to see them like that. They only have 10ish in at a time and I don't understand why they don't create some more appropriate temporary homes for them. I don't know anything about their betta breeders, but I appreciate that they aren't trafficking them from the wild at the very least.

Positive experience: Great variety, my previous visit I left a review that had three stars and I feel a single visit isn't a good indicator for the quality of this store. The selection of fish is near impossible to beat here in Alaska and the staff are quite knowledgeable. The fluval 207 filter I got had a broken locking mechanism but nothing super glue couldn't fix. The prices are pretty good.

The store was kinda busy and he was very helpful. To all of us. He answered all my questions with enthusiasm and obvious love for the hobby. I absolutely recommend this place for all your aquarium needs and questions. If your needs aren't their specialty, they have no problems pointing you in the right direction. A+ service and I can be pretty tough to make happy.
