Fantastic experience: Max and his team have been helping my son care for his budding axolotl breeding operation and they’re great! The axolotls — and their babies — are healthy and happy, and my son loves chatting with them about all the details of the animals he loves. We couldn’t recommend them more.

Negative experience: WARNING!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! It is no longer owned by Mark Champion and the new owner does not know anything about fish tanks. I could write a book about the awful experience I had with this company. I was told by 2 different companies that I overpaid by $15k to this company, they charged me for premium equipment that I did not get. Do your homework, they will tell you how they built the tank at Bass Pro Shop... Etc. But that was Mark Champion and his team years ago. These guys don't know anything. Terrible Experience. Call someone else!!
This was a frustrating project, obviously for the customer, but for our team as well. Responses to some points raised by this review:
1. Marc, our founder and Chief Fish Whisperer, remains actively involved in the company on a consistent basis, as many of our customers know. And virtually all of the positive reviews here were left by customers *after* the new owners were added. Apparently, they feel like we know what we're doing. So does Aquatic Animals Life Support Operators (aalso.org), a large industry organization primarily comprised of public aquarium staff, which in 2023 certified the head of this customer's project as a certified aquarium life support operator. Our aquarist staff have worked for us and on private and public aquariums for years.
2. We delivered the equipment we promised, besides one sub-system that we had always planned to install later in the process. In fact, we upgraded many components -- including lighting, aquarium bracing, etc. at our own cost. We will still deliver the remaining subsystem even though the customer has left this review, and we can install it as well. Fair is fair.
3. During the planning stage, we did forget to mention one hole that needed to be drilled in one exterior wall approximately two feet from the aquarium. That's on us.
4. There were two major sources of frustration here: first, a LONG supply chain delay in getting the glass panels for this custom aquarium. That was unexpected, annoying to everyone, and totally outside of our control. The second was that, despite multiple conversations with the customer and his contractor, the aquarium hood was not made even close to the specs that we repeatedly asked for and that the customer agreed to. This happened twice. Simply put, this left us no place to secure the aquarium lights. We politely tried multiple different ways to safely and effectively position the lights, which included a lot of labor and additional parts that we paid for, all of which were challenging -- and understandably frustrating to this customer. This definitely made us look bad, which wasn't fun for anyone. In retrospect, we should have just required the customer to correct the hood to our original spec instead of trying really hard to work around the issue on the fly.
5. We know that this customer competitively bid the project initially, so the notion that he overpaid us by such an enormous percentage of the project costs seems dubious to us. To be fair, we don't know where the prices ended up.
6. We are proud to work with Bass Pro Shops, and we have renewed those agreements several times, including after our company brought on additional owners. However, just to be clear: while we build beautiful aquarium systems in homes, businesses, and institutions throughout South Florida, we never claimed to have built the Bass Pro aquariums. We (along with some dedicated Bass Pro team members!) maintain those aquariums and care for the amazing animals in them.
7. Our goal is to do right by every customer, and we like Jon and his family in particular. The job was frustrating for everyone involved, and that's obviously not the way we want customers to feel during the installation process. But he has a beautiful aquarium in his beautiful home and will for years to come, and we're proud of the work we did to help achieve that.
Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience with Champion Aquariums. Max and their staff was knowledgeable, patient, and truly passionate about what they do. They took the time to answer all of my questions. They do setup, maintenance and much more! For sure they are the correct option to keep your aquarium clean and with a great variety of healthy fish! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for expert advice and excellent service.

Fantastic experience: I bought a house with a large saltwater aquarium built in. The prev owners left the card of the aquarium builder and servicer; as a courtesy. I called Champion aquariums to service the tank and provide some marine life. That was 6 years ago. Champion has been by my side ever since. Top tier service, communication and pricing. Working with champions aquarium is easy and efficient.

Fantastic experience: I contacted Champion Aquariums to help me set up a new freshwater tank. Fantastic experience: We inherited this company when we bought our house with an aquarium built in. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable when they come to service the tank and they clean the area before leaving. Fantastic experience: We absolutely love Champion Aquariums! I was maintaining my salt water tank myself for many years but found it was just too difficult to do correctly.
