Fantastic experience: Shop is in a converted carport, but don’t let that sway you. Alex has a ton of nice LPS and softies and currently a few nice SPS. This would be a great place to stock your nano-reef or even a larger tank. Lots of good deals on healthy specimens. You can tell the owner has a passion for reef keeping and his wife probably really loves him to let him do this at their house. Seriously, his lower overhead, he passes on to you and that makes this place a good one to check out.

Fantastic experience: Alex helped me order a custom stand for my large aquarium. Communication was extremely prompt and working with him was a pleasure. He was able to get a better price and faster turnaround on my stand than literally every manufacturer in the country I contacted. I absolutely recommend Derby City. Friendly and polite professionals who know their stuff and are wonderful to work with.

Negative experience: 'edit' Coral auctions are poorly managed tried to sign in three times and was denied before finally getting in missing several auctions and then trying to bid on several others only to be automatically denied by some kind of Auto bid technique that shouldn't be allowed

Fantastic experience: Hard to get someone on the phone, but when you do they’re knowledgeable about livestock and corals. I’ve bought a handful of coral and cuc from Alex and is always a pleasure to work with. Not many saltwater stores in central ky, this is one of the good ones.

Negative experience: They never answer the phone calls.

Negative experience: I just got a tourch coral and I paid 150 for one head, when I came home I notes that the coral skeleton is all broken and I am pretty sure that they know it, but they still selling the coral. Never going to came back….

Fantastic experience: Simply the best experience in my new found interest in aquascaping. First and is the most important in a retail experience, the customer service was stellar! The staff were available to assist me in what I was looking for AND the vital information on the creating a healthy biome for my finned friends. The bonus was I was also informed on the set-up and maintenance costs. This bonus revealed that this is more than just another retail outlet for aquatic / aquarium items- he actually cares about the health of his livestock. Considering the specialty is more of an investment in a living art than "a tank of fish" - I found his business integrity refreshing. And for those who like the opportunity to win free stuff, and who doesn't like that, they are holding a raffle for a very nice tank! Local owner with plans to expand - looking forward my next visit!
