Positive experience: Very very small aquarium, but the whole town is small so it fits perfectly, 2 dollar donation is suggested for entry. The star of the show was the 9 month old baby octopus. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. A decent sized show and touch pool. Color and activity table.

Fantastic experience: Our two young children really loved the experience. Being able to touch and experience the animals in the tide pool was great. It kept them entertained for at least 1.5 hours.

Fantastic experience: Place is really cool. My family and I walk around Poulsbo a lot. We always love to stop by in to touch all the sea life. It’s free but donations are optional. We donate every time

Fantastic experience: We loved coming here! We didn’t plan to stop on our trip to Poulsbo but it was a pleasant gem to stubble upon. I enjoyed sitting and enjoying the educational videos in the quiet room to the side as a nice break in a busy day. The touch tank made me feel like a kid again!

Negative experience: The aquarium is very small with very little in it. In past years there was much more for adults and children to do and see. When asked what happened to all the exhibits the response was COVID.

Fantastic experience: Very cool, kids loved it, pay be donation is a nice touch.

Positive experience: Small, free aquarium with limited collection. If you’ve been to a couple aquariums in the PNW, there isn’t a lot to learn here. We only spent about 15 minutes here. If you haven’t visited a PNW aquarium, this could be a good prologue visit. Touch tank. Clean public restrooms. Donations accepted.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic, one of the best small aquariums in WA.

Fantastic experience: Very tiny place, but the littles loved it. They can touch a variety of gentle ocean dwellers. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and definitely stoked about ocean science. Plus, this is downtown Poulsbo, which is always a fun place to stroll.

Fantastic experience: This is a very tiny spot with not a lot to offer. I would say the suggested donation of $2 is about accurate in terms of value provided. Little kids will definitely love the little touch pool. Staff are great!

Fantastic experience: The center is small so I was a little disappointed at first, but the staff made this such a GREAT experience. I highly recommend it!! Michelle was so wonderful with our three year old, and kept her completely engaged in the experience. We learned about so many things that grow in our oceans. The touch tank was incredible… urchins, sea cucumbers, a cute little crab, anemones, starfish. Touch the urchins! You won’t regret it.

Negative experience: It is a shame how this place changed since WWU was given it. Very few animals for the children to touch. Most of the displays are empty of fish, etc Only one or two pictures for children to color. And the short movies are really for adults. Children loved climbing on the octopus and adults loved taking and sharing their photos.... But no more. There is now a ticket office that someone sits at when the place is open. Donation is $2 per person. I've always given a hefty donation ....that the children fought over to put in the divers headgear. There are very few free parking spaces, if any, available. I have taken many children here over the years... But no more as even the child complained to me that its not fun.

Fantastic experience: Small museum, just a short walk though, however the hands-on tidal pool with starfish and anemones was a huge hit with everyone.

Fantastic experience: We took our kids her yesterday and it was a lot of fun, we all learned a lot. I didn't realize how much I didn't know about the Puget Sound until I went here, haha. Great family friendly day trip.

Fantastic experience: It is very small, entrance by suggestion donation @$2 . It maybe only about 10 animals inside but is the one that you never seen before. We amazed by the sea gooseberry... and the staff very friendly. I think they are students and volunteers but they know their stuff. Our family had a blast. Small but amazing.

Melissa Dingmon 2 years ago

Negative experience: It is good if you have a little kid with a short attention span that just wants to touch a sea cucumber or starfish and then take off for another adventure. Most of the exhibits are broken or abandoned.

Fantastic experience: rockin aquatic vibes. only wish they were open 24 hours a day.

Positive experience: I can absolutely see how this would be much more exciting for children, but for two adults it was a little underwhelming. We were in there for about 20min total. The touch pool was fascinating, and the staff was so friendly and informative. A couple tanks were empty due to COVID-related issues, but what was there was exciting to witness and read about. It’s free to the public and only recommends donations, which is why I would recommend it to everyone with children but maybe not solo adults. I would be potentially visit again when they expand/get more species.

Fantastic experience: Great little stop! They have a big touch tank with star fish and sea urchins and a few viewing tanks with fish. Admission is technically free but you pay $10 to park in their parking lot and there is a $2/person suggested donation.

Fantastic experience: Excellent chance to touch and see up close marine life from the Puget sound. It's free but donations are greatly appreciated.

Positive experience: Very small center, but with several interesting display tanks, a touch tide pool, a video room, and an activity room (with coloring sheets & white boards for drawing) that kept my 5 year old entertained for quite a while. We'll probably add a visit here to our usual family fun routine whenever we visit Poulsbo. I definitely recommend it for kids, especially if they are interested in marine life. But don't expect a big variety of activities or large viewing tanks. UPDATE: They've recently added/changed a few of their tanks, including the addition of a new octopus! My son (now 6) got a kick out of the changes & new additions. I bumped my review up to 4 stars from 3. It's just that much more interesting now. It's still relatively small, but still great fun, especially for younger kids.

Fantastic experience: So much for the kids to do in a small place. It's free but donations are welcomed.

Fantastic experience: Great place to take the kids. My son did not want to leave. Admission is FREE, but donations are recommended.

Fantastic experience: This is super fun place with marine hands on activities for the children and they also have few fish tanks and informational display. It is a very small place but super fun to kids 3-10 years old. Older kids might not be as entertained. It is free but you can make a donation.

Fantastic experience: Run by volunteers and kept afloat by donations, this center has been a favorite in Poulsbo since before it became the Sea Discovery Center. We visited this morning (they open at 11, so we hit up our favorite bakery first) with my two children plus my two year old nephew and it was a blast. Love this place, we're always sure to donate when we visit. Fun and educational is always a winner!

Fantastic experience: Educational with a twist of fun. Free aquarium, so kids can come again and again. Volunteers are amazingly knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. They conduct field trips for children. Also, as adults, we enjoyed it immensely.

Fantastic experience: Great place for kids of all ages to learn about & interact with marine life. Decent variety of aquariums with different inhabitants. Everything in the touch tank is hands on so kids can touch and pick up the aquatic animals. Best of all, it's free! I just wish they'd expand their exhibits a bit more.

Fantastic experience: This small aquarium has so many opportunities for learning. There is a theater where you can watch movies about underwater Life, Touch tank, and an arts and crafts room. It's a great place to go to play with your kids. They also offer educational programming 4 schools.

Fantastic experience: Great little place for the children!!

Fantastic experience: We visited with our local aquarium club and it was wonderful. They are slowly building up their displays and increasing the diversity of the animals. They work hard at explaining the different displays and make it very interesting which in turn triggers questions that they are more than happy to answer. I was so impressed that I donated a couple of corals and a Red Bubble Tip Anemone from my own tank.
