Positive experience: Owner was nice, got 3 types of fish unfortunately the tetras all passed away the next day in tested water. So looks like 1 batch out of the 3 weren't good.

Trying our best to finish quickly
Fantastic experience: I went there after spending over an hour waiting for help at Petco and googled this aquarium place and off I went. My granddaughter got a fish tank for Christmas and I don't know the first things about what to do. Walked into his store and was greeted immediately and explained what I needed and he was more than happy to help. ( Even when I changed my mind numerous times) I will definitely be going back and sending my friends there. Thank you for all your help.

Negative experience: I took a long drive for another visit to this shop looking for some plecos and a few other aquarium items. The first time I stopped here I was pleasantly surprised with the health of the fish and the store in general. They were in the midst of expanding their shop two doors down, so things were understandably a little chaotic. Unfortunately this time I was kind of shocked by the conditions the fish were in. Lacking color, signs of bacterial/fungal issues—which shied me away from making any fish purchases. I saw some bettas that were in a cup on the counter and took a peek— ugh. Looking terrible and sad— one was kept in a small bowl, no heater or filtration. Very disappointing. Then I ventured to the new ‘reptile store’ they have opened. Lots of good supplies but sorry looking animals for sale. Staff wasn’t the friendliest, at least the guy behind the counter. He seemed miffed to stop what he was working on to help. Sorry, but I won’t be returning.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Tanks are very well kept and clean. Carry a large selection of fish and supplies. Highly recommend you visit the store.

Fantastic experience: The customer service is OUTSTANDING! The associate instantly welcomed my 3 kids and I with a tour of the whole shop and fed the fish for us to watch! Super cool and over the top kind of them. Store is clean and reptiles/fish are happy and healthy. The owner personally answered my questions and invited the kids to hold his rare reptiles! He even showed them his “dinosaur eggs.” They are very passionate, knowledgeable, patient and beyond friendly. They have every fish type and supplies you could hope for in your aquarium and they offer an experience you can't find in your chain-type pet stores. 10/10 THANK YOU
Positive experience: Back in August 2019 I purchased some zebra Danios. Unlike other pet stores the fish made it home alive and thrived despite my lack of experience. Anytime I have bought fish elsewhere Petco, Petsmart, there is always a certain amount that do not make it into the tank (belly up in the bag on the way home!). Aquariums by JJ is just as far from me or further than these other stores. I also purchased plants which are still doing well from this store. Though I knew little about the Nitrogen cycle back when I first bought the fish, the owner prevented me from making a huge mistake of purchasing greater quantities of fish thus my first fish were able to weather the cycle and live. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: They are amazing! I’ve bought so many fish from this small business, and I must say they are all about quality! They keep just about every tank spotless fish seem very happy and pretty much no floaters! I’ve recently bought a flounder from them and I love it, it’s happy and healthy. The owner and his mother-in-law are always short to crack you up with a joke and the other employees are always happy to help with questions or requests. Overall very pleasant experience even just to go check out what they have is like visiting an aquarium as they are never short of something cool and different! Absolute 10/10

Negative experience: I Bought a top for fish tank was billed 118 $ Twice I called to complain . the sales person Eric acted like an emotional female who whined to the owner jj I called to many times he sided with Eric and barred me from the store. All I did was go in and spend money. They charged me twice and Eric got upset and thought I called him a thief The quality of the Water maybe average. Stock is low in my opinion quality of livestock poor at best most merchandise Is out dated marine live stock looks like it’s on its last leg The Store is dirty dingy and disgusting think twice before you ad his live stock to your tank
You were not billed twice. We asked you to show us the double charge, you didn't. Guess we were supposed to just take your word for it.
As of a week ago, you were praising my store, saying how great it was. Going on and on about it.. Then when you couldn't get nothing for free you post a bad review.
I'll be calling the other stores in the area to see if they threw you out too, for pulling the same garbage you have done each and every time you come into the store. Today was the final straw.
I guess asking to "borrow" an aneomi for a couple of days. Then constantly asking for free or reduced fish. Saltwater fish of which you know you can't get anymore, I guess that's ok...maybe it gets you stuff in other stores, but not mine.
How about the fact that you opened up a package off the shelf and said, since its already open, can I get a deal?
You came into my store and intimidated my employee, thats why you were told to leave and not come back. Then had the nerve to say you had $500 in your pocket to spend. Like that was going to make a difference.
Considering all the years I've been in business, YOU sir, are the first person that we have told to leave and not come back.
You can keep your money. My employees, my water, my fish and my clean store don't need to deal with the likes of you.

Fantastic experience: They were awesome! The owner is cool and he actually owns the reptile store next door also. I needed a replacement bulb for my turtle tank that nobody carries and when ordered online it comes broken. They had ton of them on hand and it's local business. Def go here

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Although I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for due to Covid messing up shipments, I was shown a comparable fish which turned out to be even cooler. They were even pleasant and answered questions that I had when I called later on.
Negative experience: After driving 30 minutes to arrive to the store to buy a aquarium and a couple of fishes for my son , was 7.07 pm ( store it was supposed to close at 8pm) ,we enter to the store because the DOOR WAS OPEN and lights on , arrived a guy from outside very rude and kicked us out saying the the store was close , and he went away with his friends... but if the store was close why the door was open? ...never again
Our hours changed to 7pm when covid hit and there was a 8pm curfew. Its stated on our all our pages that we close at 7pm. We have not returned to our original 8pm closing hours.
And, instead of actually saying what happened, I don't appreciate the lies.
The aquarium shop was closed and the alarm was on at 7:02pm, with the door CLOSED.
The reptile shop is the store that you walked into. The simple fact that you walked in through the EXIT door and all the lights were off throughout the store should have given you a hint.
And according to my employees they explained we were closed. Especially since you said you just wanted to look around, and weren't there for something specific.
I know which employee you spoke with, and he has NEVER been rude to a customer or potential customer.

Fantastic experience: Very clean tanks, good selection for a smaller store. Very good prices on fish and merchandise. Workers are very friendly. I used to shop and absolutely fish and fish hut. Absolutely fish is over priced and fish hut is full of very sick fish. Will be returning to JJ.

Negative experience: bought 2 fish both had lymph no return. bought fish food that expired in one month. New to salt water world. place and tanks filthy. one tank had two dead fish on the bottom. will never return. .
I'm going to be nice and just say this...
As you are new to salt water, and the fact that you DID NOT listen to my employee who specifically told you NOT to purchase the fish you did, as you had a brand new setup and that THEY WOULD DIE, but you didn't listen and insisted.
You purchased clown fish for a brand new tank. What did you think was going to happen?
If I had been there, as the owner, I would not have sold you the fish, no matter how persistent you were.
And, as someone who has no clue to what you're doing or looking at, our tanks are not filthy and neither is our store. And our tanks absolutely did not have dead fish in them. Oh and the clown fish did not have lymph considering they were perfectly healthy when they left the store.
If you would have returned, as I asked you too and as the owner, I would have made sure you knew exactly what you were supposed to do to have a healthy and lively tank.
But since you chose this rout instead, there's nothing I can do.

Fantastic experience: Nice little fish store with good service and reasonable prices. I’ve bought a quite a few fish and corals from them now and all have been pest free, healthy and thriving. As a matter of fact I’ve been there 3 times, looked in every tank, and haven’t seen a dead fish yet, the place is a little small, and it seems like they’re still getting settled in there but every time I go there they have added more stuff and they have a good enough selection for now. I’m looking forward to seeing them grow and get even better especially in the reef and planted tank selection. Definitely my new LFS!

Negative experience: Supposed to open at 10AM this morning. Got there from lower Wayne at 11:05. Hand printed sign on door stated weekend hours 12 noon - 6PM. Really aggravated me that they didn't fix hours on their internet site. From now on it's Absolutely Fish on 46 in Clifton.
Sorry about that...we had just changed them and I didn't have a chance to change them online. But I also didn't know hours can cause a 1 star rating...totally unfair. Also forgot to mention in my previous response...we are a 3 person crew, which 1 of us works another full time job, and the other is also out doing services. And Absolutely Fish, because the owner and JJ know each other will never say anything negative, but we hope they had everything you were looking for :-) Hopefully one day you will possibly give us a look, because if you were already a frequent customer, you never would have posted this review. Thank you for your patience.

Positive experience: I just called this store to ask about my puffer fish... and this guy gave me SO much attitude and wasn't even nice he was so rude i had to get off of the phone right away. All i did was ask if they kept their puffer fish in freshwater or brackish water! He said I was ¨not listening¨ when he wasn't even answering my question! I´ve called this store twice and the first time the lady was so nice and helpful but this time he was mean and rude..... and i still don´t have my question answered! (im still going to buy my fish from here because the reviews were good and it is close... but the person on the phone was so nasty and arrogant)
I'm very very sorry...there is no excuse for him to talk that way to anyone. All I can say he is under a bit of stress as we are moving the store this week to 55 Main Street in Bloomingdale, though it's still no excuse.
It's twice the size of our store now and we will have many more fish for everyone to choose from.
Please accept my apologies. Also..can you please call the store tomorrow after 5.. I will get the answer you need.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and knowledgeable owners over 30 yrs experience. Good variety of freshwater and salt water fish with some unique twists. Convenient and no hassles. Used to purchase from Absolutely Fish which is generally crowded, over priced and 20 min away but no more! Only critiques would be limited plant selection and location is a tight fit with all the equipment and supplies however I was told they will be moving to a larger location soon just down the street so can't wait to see the changes they have in mind!
Thank you for your post, it's very much appreciated. Yes, we have finally found a larger place which will be in Bloomingdale (55 Main St). It will allow us to do more for our customers with the varieties of fish and reptiles. Along with being able to offer more equipment and supplies, but without tightening up the fit :-)

Negative experience: Not good with reptiles went in one time and was disgusted.they had a savannah monitor in a tank with a broken mummified leg. Preceded to tell me it would grow back he'll be fine.
I'm sorry, but no one in our store would have told you that his leg would have grown back. That is something that nature doesnt allow to regrow. Unfortunately there was an accident and one of our employees while cleaning had gotten his leg caught under the water dish. We had our vet take care of him and he is now living a happy life with one of our customers. I will also add that you are the ONLY person who has ever given us a bad rating....so we must be doing something right overall. I'm sorry you were disappointed.
