🗣️ Aquarium Paradise: Reviews
Negative experience: Every time I come here to try and buy a fish they are never open what’s going on is this even a real store? They don’t have a sign saying when they will be coming back and the hours online definitely say they’re open zero out of 10 what type Of business is this where they’re never open I I’m starting to think that’s not even a business at all
Fantastic experience: Wonderful store with a beautiful selection and friendly staff. I will be back for more fish :)
Negative experience: Came here on Friday for the first time at 12:30 to come check the store out and buy saltwater fish and they were closed without warning. No sign, nothing online about it. Poor communication especially if you’re going to be closed.
Negative experience: showed up today 4/8/25 its closed even though google says its open, and looks like its really moist inside from all the water against the glass, took a few photos, there are still fish in there, calling doesnt do anything.
Fantastic experience: My Amano shrimp are doing incredible and the plants I’ve purchased are great too! One plant really took off and the others are slowly adjusting. The owner and sales team are great! I stopped by today but there was no way of leaving a voicemail so I’ll come back another time ! Fantastic store ! I have Brazilian fish that would enjoy more plants for shelter
Negative experience: when i showed up they were closed. I'm more than sure they are out of business but it looks like they have plenty of product in stock but it looked like no one has been there in a few months.
Negative experience: Is the shop still open??
Negative experience: Seems like a wonderful store, I’ve been trying to visit, but every time I’ve tried to visit the last 4 weeks, they have been closed with no information posted, no sign, no out to lunch indicator, no information. Calling doesn’t help either. I understand the challenges of a small business with staffing and all, but there’s not even an attempt to indicate the actual operating hours/no answers for the machine. Just state you have reduced hours for winter or are closed. Definitely leaves a bad experience for the customer regardless of quality of stock.
Positive experience: That frontosa tank at the entrance is enough to warrant a visit.
Fantastic experience: Great selection of community fish, and fair prices
Fantastic experience: Very nice fish. Classic shop style*
Fantastic experience: Pedro is great with any and all questions you may have. I’m new to hobby and have spent a lot of time here learning and enjoying his selection of exotic and freshwater fish. 10/10 recommend bc big box stores aren’t as knowledgeable.
Negative experience: I've never seen so many dead fish in an aquarium store, big ones too. And the ones that were alive didn't look happy, their tanks seemed too small, even for temporary
My heater on the tanks went down and lost many fish (thousands of dollars). After an all nighter finally got it up and running. Just my luck had to happen when it’s 20 degrees outside
Negative experience: Drove 2.5hrs and doors are locked up. Could have easily updated Google if there was an emergency closure. However I do recommend people checkout the cleaner stores nearby like Absolutely Fish, aquaridise, global fish do. Isn’t bad but a lot of dead and beat up stuff last two times. Still work a check, and fish hut for African cichlids. If you want super high quality F1 africans checkout cheechs exotics. And he never updates the website
Positive experience: They have many aquarium fish but pricey
Fantastic experience: Love the experience here it's amazing ❤️
Negative experience: Online says they are open. Drove over and they are closed. No sign no nothing. Tried calling and got no answer. Very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Love the assortment of fish
Fantastic experience: Owner is great and knowledgeable. They have a very good selection of harder to find fish and fair pricing
Negative experience: Waked in for the 1st time and the store is so dead no presentation meaning nothing that calls your attention to this store. The store smells and it’s so dark and tank needs more TLC. I got sold three fish with no eye like common sense will tell you check your fish before selling them , not just give your customer anything and then to top it off the front desk lady no customer skills what so ever…. Gave it two stars because they have many options but won’t be going back…
Positive experience: Can only give 3 based on the pictures of the place I cannot visit. Every single attempt to goto the place. There's no parking. No even 10 blocks away. Bummer. Bad location
You can park in the Bank across the street, We have worked out a deal with them for parking, Hope to see you soon.
Negative experience: If you are closed in Sunday post that! it’s says open everywhere then you come and it’s closed
Negative experience: If I can give it negative stars I would. I walked in and it was about 6:15 pm and the lady kept saying they close in 20 minutes & they suppose to close at 7, I understand that it’s close in timing but common sense … 20 mins after 6:15 is 6:35 … then I ask if they take Apple Pay and she claimed they did not… i ask for a fish tank and then she told me to come back on Monday mind you it’s only 6:20 now …. And I needed it today a Saturday! Worst place ever and the fish had ich like come on and the best part she was rude !! Yes the worker was rude and nasty!! The fact she told me to come back another day & told me petco could work for me !!! please get a hold of ur self and get better staff. Walk in and regretted it just by 1 foot in the door. Don’t come here ! TOOK MY MONEY ELSE WEAR AND GALD I DID!
Thank You for your feed back, That employee is NO longer here.

Positive experience: Only place that has live black worms in area.
Fantastic experience: Great place for kids, and adults, huge tanks and alot of different wildlife
Fantastic experience: The staff is very nice and friendly. Good prices.
Negative experience: Both google and their door said they would be open, no one inside and door was locked. This was 1:00pm on a Sunday. Would not recommend this place
Fantastic experience: Piranhas, Cichlids, stingrays etc. A great place for freshwater fish lovers. The entrance is unassuming. But inside has a great variety of freshwater fish. I saw dragon blood oscars, 3 different kinds of piranhas, big jack dempseys and a foot long pleco. The lady and the guy in the store were helpful.
Fantastic experience: Stopped by just to grab some black worms. Owner was super nice and gives great tips. Had a lot of cool fish you find at big box stores.
Negative experience: Rude staff, not interested in answering product questions. Doesn't have many of the products I asked for and was told those products were too fancy. Lol. No thanks.
Fantastic experience: Kind and knowledgeable fish keeper — lots of fish variety in the store and supplies.
Fantastic experience: Great place, the outside is deceiving. Wide selection of fish, including stingrays, tetras, cichlids, and much more. The store is clean and also contains lots of supplies. Friendly owner who is very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place for any fish keeper.
Positive experience: Place need a bit of modernization reason i give them three stars ,great staff professional, friendly knowledgeable, so far they have the most variety of fishes both in size and species at great price.
Fantastic experience: Great place they are VERY helpful and patient. Answered all the questions we had and he was extremely nice!! Thank you!!
Positive experience: Could use an update but great place for people in the aquarium hobby.
Negative experience: Place smelled bad. Tanks were dirty and I did not trust the fish in the store not to be sick. Not a terrible selection, but poorly maintained.
Fantastic experience: Honestly never had a sick fish or a fish die from this location. I had gotten 2 Indo Datnoids and i swear it was so easy to pellet train them (datnoids are known for being hard to train to pellets) i usually go here if i need rare monster fish for my set ups.
Fantastic experience: if you want to buy Exotic fish, this is the right place
Fantastic experience: If you like piranhas or catfish GOHERE They also have a really nice cichlid tank, lots of stingrays and a lot of arowana too
Negative experience: Beware...saw more than a few dead fish in tanks... The young girl working was nothing rude and didn't even lift her head to acknowledge you... You want to stay away from here..
Positive experience: They have some fish that I have seen in other stores ,but they had tanks on metal racking and the feet were completely rotted and the racks were leaning ,how it didnt fall is beyond me.
Fantastic experience: This place is the best and very good staff,.
Negative experience: When I walked in the first thing I noticed was the smell. It smell like turtle tank water. I have been to many fish pet shops and i was not impressed by this one at all. The only reason i dont give it 1 star it was because of the customer service. I was greeted as soon as I walked in offered help as well. But there where too many dead fishes overall.
Positive experience: Great place for true hobbyist
Fantastic experience: I go to quite a few fish stores..this one is my favorite. They always have fish that other stores don't have. Prices for supplies are lower..they don't gouge your pockets. I love the atmosphere..its dark with plenty of walking space. The staff is friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for a cooler store. Lots of pirahnas, arowanna, sting rays..they even have a huge electric eel. Sometimes I stop in just to look around
Negative experience: Came in store seen fish I wanted walked to next isle and owner changed the price on my fish from $5 bucks to $16.99 ,they also dye fish different colors to create a sale not good if u are looking for specific fish and great quality go to absolute fish in Clifton NJ uts worth the drive!!!!!!!
Hi Dean, I wasn't there to see the exact fish that had it's price changed but if the price on the fish was wrong then it did need to be changed, and as per us "dying fish different colors" we do not dye our fish, the fish are sold that way and almost every fish store around the world buy them like that whether it be African clawed frogs, painted tetras, painted glasfish, glo danios, are all man made fish and are purchased as such, just like how blood parrots, king kong parrots, flowerhorns as well as a few other fish are man made hybridized fish, they are just bought that way.
Fantastic experience: The place is really good to get supplies for aquarium and very affordable fishes as well. The staff was really good and I love my new fishes who lid up my aquarium.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to go to get fish... They are heathy and the people there know what they are talking about if you need to know about yr fish or yr tank
Fantastic experience: Alot if beautifully exotic fishes loved the store awesome great staff thumps up on the great variety of exotics
Fantastic experience: Great place with a super variety of exotic fish, a little pricey but the staff is very knowledgeable and will give great advice on anything from keeping tank clean to curing ich.
Positive experience: Gotta say that this has fallen off a little as far as variety since I've been going there.
Fantastic experience: Lots os variety of fishes, I definitely recommend for any aquarium enthusiastic.
Negative experience: So this place is also called Aquascape Online or Aquascape if you were to look it up. I left a review on that google page and will be doing so in here and Yelp as well. Tonight I was extremely dissatisfied with the help I requested. I called up to speak with someone I spoke to there previously and the people who answer the phones refuse to let any other worker give advise. Upon my request I was informed someone I didn’t even know the name of could assist me over the phone with what I needed help with. Regardless of the fact that I asked for a specific employee who was much more knowledgeable. The fish here are great but the owners and those who run the shop are massively disappointing when it comes to customer service. I’d like to speak with someone whoms help I was satisfied with the first time. I will 100% not be returning here. There are plenty of family own fish stores with equally healthy tanks and beautiful fish that don’t lack in customer service. Save yourself the headache.
I am the manager of the store and picked up the phone when you called and offered my help and am more than happy to help you out with any problems you may be having. As per the employee that helped you he only works certain days and certain hours during the week and was not working today which is why I could not give the phone to him. If he was there I would have been more than happy to give him the phone if you would have liked but he is also new and has a lot to learn
Fantastic experience: It is hard to find legitimate aquarium stores that cater to fresh water hobbyists but fortunately we found Aquarium Paradise shortly after moving up to the NYC area. Like most aquarium stores, it’s not the cleanest place in the world but all of the tanks and fish are in excellent condition. They have an incredible selection of rare piranhas and fresh water stingrays and the staff and owner are very knowledgeable and helpful. We have bought many fish from this store and they have all remained beautiful and healthy - we even have an Oscar that we purchased as a baby that is now the king of the tank at about 7”. We even had an issue with a beautiful Severus that unfortunately did not work out socially with the other cichlids in our tank and the owner of the store stayed late to ensure that we could get the fish out of our tank and safely back to the store and avoid being stuck in a bucket overnight or stressed to death by the other fish in the tank. He even gave us a full refund. I would highly recommend this store to all fresh water aquarists who are interested in finding rarer, healthier, and more interesting fish than you would typically see in a big box chain store. It is even worth driving from an hour or so away.
Negative experience: Wanted to give this local business a shot .. They don’t answer the phone called repeatedly . I called at 10:15 10:30. Again at 10:45 nothing ..I’ll guess I’ll drive to Clifton to absolutely fish, they are always accommodating.
Sorry about the issue Ralph. we open at 11 7 days a week. when we changed the hours it must not have saved and updated
Positive experience: The customers were really friendly and helpful in understanding what I needed I did knows it took him a little bit of time to come help me but I also realize that they were in a middle of doing something.but they were very friendly. I am in support of all local stores.i so understand save money and all but we losing that local feeling
Positive experience: Aquarium Paradise isn’t really as it’s described in the name. There are lots of aquariums, but I’m not sure if it’s a paradise. Located directly on busy Washington Ave, it’s in a brick building that looks pretty run down. It’s not terribly difficult to find with a large sign on the front, but the traffic may make it more or less difficult. Parking is by meter on the street. We went on a Sunday, so we did not pay anything. The inside is very dark, with few windows and lights. The walls are painted black which doesn’t really help. They might be going for a cavernous look, but I don’t think it works if that’s the case. The rest looks a bit too run down. It is about as dirty and odorous as you might expect from a fish store. The tanks are clean, though there are quite a few with labels that say cracked or damaged. It is a bit more open than many aquarium stores, which lends fewer tanks. We didn’t have too much interaction with the staff, partly because were wandered around for 5 minutes before anyone noticed we were there. Given it was a slow weekend, they may have been working on other tasks. Not being a fish expert, I cannot tell if the prices are reasonable or not. They focus a lot on aggressive and rare species like Pacu and Arowana and come with a hefty price tag. It probably won’t be my first choice, as there are closer stores. I am also more interested in planted tanks, which is not a focus at all. If you are interested in a specific rare species, they might be worth a call.
Negative experience: Both Google and their door said they open Sunday at 10am. We got there at 10:15 and no one is anywhere in sight. Glad we took a detour to check this place out ...not.
Fantastic experience: BEAUTIFUL, EXOTIC FISH, pricey but well worth it, if your into fish that is
Fantastic experience: Super organized clean tanks health fish good customer service
Negative experience: There were dead fish in some of the tanks
Positive experience: The employee there was great however the selection was poor. I'm guessing it's because they're remodeling (like the employee told me) but I wish there was as much as when they were fully stocked. Spoiler though, they will not be selling saltwater anymore, so you're left with a selection of freshwater giants, but mostly their wide variety of piranhas. Can't wait to see how the store will eventually turn out like. Also, prices are considerably fair. Water quality is amazing all-around.
Positive experience: Go place to visit. Told them what I have in my tank and they are all getting along. Thanks for the help.
Negative experience: Acted like they was busy like 3 ppl was there didnt even have part called. First very poor customer service never go there ever again they suck
Fantastic experience: great place for exotic fish for low prices and great customer service
Fantastic experience: This place was the best aquatic pet store I have ever been too, they had great rare exotic fish fresh water and salt water. The staff was awesome, super helpful!!! I will only buy my fish from here from now on!!
Fantastic experience: Awsome place for aquarium owners. They have a very helpful staff and the selection is exceptional.
Positive experience: Decent store. Nothing special. Not much of a selection unless you are into piranhas or stingrays. I asked one of the sales girls if they had brine shrimp eggs and she had no idea what I was talking about. So she asked another employee and he said no. 5 minutes later I found them hanging on the wall next to the fish food. I live 5 minutes from this place. Otherwise I would never go here.
Negative experience: The worst customer service ever, sold us a sick fish would not exchange for a healthy one.. have brought several fish before we are regular customer... had the fish for only 2 days... Matt "manager" was nothing but rude and disrespectful very arrogant young man... will never buy from them again so sad but wouldn't recommend for anyone to buy from there..
Positive experience: Decent place to buy fish, a good selection but the staff is not very helpful and misinformed. I went in there to look for some Otto catfish for my 10gal betta tank and the guy working there didn't know what I was talking about. After he consulted another staff he found out they dontnhave any. At this point he started recommending other fish that were all highly inappropriate at one point even suggesting a red tail catfish as a tankmate saying they don't get very big and suggested I put aggressive fish in with my betta since he is aggressive as well. I actually started laughing. Red tail catfish grow to over 4ft and min req 1000 gallons at full size. When i told him that he refuted my statement. I know he was just trying to help, but I found this quite disturbing as some people who might be looking for fish and not too educated on the subject might take his advice and purchase something highly inappropriate for their tank. Do your research before buying any fish. just because people work at a petshop, doesn't make them experts. Another experience was when I was looking for a fluval spec vv, I kept calling them and asking if they had them in stock and they would tell me days when the shipment would be coming in, I continued to call on those days and they said they would take my info and call me when they got it, weeks later and no call and I just bought it from Petco instead.
Fantastic experience: Nice healthy fish they take good care of there fish
