š£ļø Steinhart Aquarium: Reviews
Positive experience: I really liked the dome where butterflies fly, and there are also birds, and many different plants. The aquarium itself has many fish, different plants, and there is also an alligator, it's great!! But I didn't like that for such a large place there is no parking, neither paid nor free - it's not right and not convenient. The ticket price also seems too high to me, because I was in the aquarium in Los Angeles, Long Beach, there the ticket cost 30 dollars and for that I had the opportunity to watch different shows, touch stingrays, sharks, sea lions and much more, so I think that 55 dollars is too much for such a place
Fantastic experience: Itās like they took a piece of the ocean and stuck it in the Academy of Sciences. The Steinhart Aquarium showcases sea life from all corners of the world, fish that dwell in deep oceans to shallow shores to swamps and rivers. Iāve been to the Academy of Sciences at least five times and I have been mesmerized by the aquarium every time. Itās nice to see the animals acting and moving like they would in their natural environments, and thereās tons of interactive stuff for kids. The aquarium was also quite big. I wasnāt able to see everything in the limited time I was there, so thereās lots of exploring to do. Overall, very worthwhile. 5/5.
Fantastic experience: A little expensive but the Amazon is fire
Fantastic experience: Absolutely beautiful. The entire Academy of Sciences, which the aquarium is within, is captivating and entertaining.
Fantastic experience: Magnificent. Seaweeds, fish, and sea animals of all kind
Fantastic experience: Best natural History museum on The West Coast.
Fantastic experience: Itās a small underground aquarium, but itās really mesmerizing. I found this one more enjoyable than the Aquarium of the Bay. My kid loves this place so much. He had his smile on the entire time. I also finally see the famous white alligator, Claude. He looks healthy with his best buddy snapping turtle.
Fantastic experience: This is a great aquarium along with the rainforest exhibit, natural history museum, and planetarium. This is a great place to visit.
Fantastic experience: This is a great place to spend a day. Wether you're with kids or a group of adults, it's perfect for everyone. Around $50 per person as a heads up, and parking is naturally pricey since it's in SF. Besides that, the exhibits are extremely well kept and offer so many beautiful views throughout. Seems like we went on a slower day, so we were able to see everything. If you're into exhibits, science or nature, this is a definite must
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit with kids and even just adults! Interesting and fun activity, price a little high. But still great place to visit at least once
Fantastic experience: The best in the city sf
Fantastic experience: Great aquarium in the California academy of Sciences. Best way is to go to the arboretum and you end up in the aquarium. Lots of different things to see
Fantastic experience: Parking was good and there was so much wildlife in there it was phenomenal
Fantastic experience: Fun for the family.
Fantastic experience: The aquarium is mesmerizing. I enjoyed watching the jellies on display. The pathways and ecosystems are worth visiting.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful, fun, educational, busy to the point of uncomfortable of too many people. Still I want to return and learn more. Be prepared to spend hours and some lines inside are longer than others. Humidity was stiffiling at times. Lots of rude entitled visit. Crazy amount and loved seeing the multi-generational families pushing strollers full of kids. Unfortunately, this created many other hazardous conditions with other ages of young children running without supervision. A small boxed water expensive. Food expensive, But other gift shop items very reasonable and affordable.
Fantastic experience: The California Academy of Sciences is a wonderful place. Beautiful aquarium, living roof, animal exhibits, 4 story bio dome with birds and butterflies. An absolute must see.
Fantastic experience: What a great experience! Academy of Sciences and Steinhart Aquarium, a wonderful scientific show. Lunch and snacks can be purchased there as well as parking. A day well spent.
Fantastic experience: Make sure to see the jellyfish.
Fantastic experience: This is the aquarium to see. The rainforest exhibit is amazing, and the depth of the aquarium is breathtaking. Truly a treasure among the aquariums in California.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience and perfect way to share a love of nature with others
Fantastic experience: Loved as a child and now even my Adult Children love coming Here too. Wheelchair friendly. And they can lend you one if needed.
Positive experience: Took baby for his 1st birthday - he had a blast. I was a little lost in the aquarium corridors chasing him and dodging the 5k kids who were on a field trip.
Positive experience: Great place to visit. The California of Science Academy has so much to do and you are able to see everything in one visit. The aquarium was lovely, but is small. The rainforest exhibit was beautiful. Also they have a botanical garden, where you can do a picnic. Overall experience was amazing!
Positive experience: It was great! It was a little hot temperature wise, and a little expensive but we had a great time!
Positive experience: Food in cafeteria was somewhat ok, which isn't surprising. The museum displays and the settings are beautiful. Loved the aquarium and butterfly arboretum. It was interesting. Worth visiting. Great for kids.
Fantastic experience: Lots to see. Great place for the family
Negative experience: I also am wondering why the ticket prices are so high. If all that was here was the aquarium what an utter disappointment. Small, crowded, uncontrolled mass of humanity replete with constantly ear piercing shrieking children in a confined concrete space. Iāve seen much better for a quarter the cost. āOut of Africaā was a huge disappointment, the premise I read on entering led me to expect to see a story about the origin and migration of humanity. This consisted of one exhibit of one specimen and on small wall. The rest was just random animals. Blah. The show at the planetarium was kind of cool but itās no wonder Covid is raging here. There is no reason they, as a private entity, cannot enforce a mask mandate in such confined spaces but no, as a result of it only being ārecommendedā approximately no one anywhere in the entire place was wearing a mask. Too crowded, too noisy, too disorganized, and way too underwhelming for the money.
Fantastic experience: Lots of fun.
Negative experience: It looks like a great place to visit but sadly just found out you have to be vaccinated in order to enter. I understand COVID is contagious but it's a norm now. Just take precautions and wear mask. Vaccinated or not both individual can still get COVID. I will go somewhere else where Im not judge by vaccine.
Positive experience: This was my first time at the academy of science and I was so impressed. My favorite exhibits were the different aquariums and the rainforest. The penguin exhibit was a bit underwhelming and when they advertise sleeping with the penguins I expected more.
Fantastic experience: We had a great experience; the price was a bit steep, but we still had fun aquarium was really nice as well
Positive experience: The place was nice, I thought a better experience than the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The only down side was the parking was expensive and the same for the food at the Cafe.
Fantastic experience: I was wondering why the ticket prices were so high for this aquarium, but after my visit, I understood why. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. There is so much to see and experience! It's more than just an aquarium. There are other types of well executed exhibits as well. I was there for almost 2 hours, and there was still more I didn't get a chance to see.
Fantastic experience: Is lots of different exhibits of many rare fish and snakes. It's a great place to take your family on a outing
Fantastic experience: Very informative, and kid friendly. Mask required throughout whole building.
Positive experience: Some attractions closed down but great for the kids to learn and explore. Hopefully after covid things will start up again.
Positive experience: Way fun aquarium. With Covid, it'd be nice if they directed traffic so people weren't traveling in opposite direction while looking at the displays. Perhaps that would reduce exposure to others a bit?
Fantastic experience: It's been a minute since I've been there but it's a great place and it's very informative when you don't know where to go for exhibits
