🗣️ MaST Center Aquarium: Reviews
Fantastic experience: My experience started with a volunteer outside the aquarium who had skulls of a few marine animals and talked a little about each. Then, we went inside and walked through a hallway that had beautiful photos on the walls, marine animal skins, and skeletons. Then, to get to the aquarium you walk on a pier that had hilarious jokes on both sides. Truly enjoyed the walk (: "what do you call a fish that hoards all its sand dollars? Shellfish!" The aquarium itself is super cute. They've got little stingrays, anemone, starfish, fish, sand dollars, jellyfish, etc. Love seeing all that fauna up close and personal. The student volunteers had interesting lab coats with drawings/paintings on the back. Overall great experience.
Jesse, Thanks for a thoughtful review. Glad you enjoyed the MaST!
Fantastic experience: This is the best community marine center we’ve visited in Washington so far. Admission is by donation, it’s worth it. The professors are super knowledgeable and gladly answer any questions you might have. We spotted porpoises while enjoying the aquarium, an added bonus! Free parking across the street until early July. Would recommend and will return.
Thanks for such a nice review. The city's parking lot will start charging on 7/7/25 but there is also some free street parking.
Positive experience: Went on Saturday with both my kiddos, unfortunately it isn’t what I remember. Wasn’t a lot of options for touch pools. The area is very nice though so we explored the beach
Hi Kylie, Thanks for giving us a review and sorry that we didn't meet your expectation. We are a small, community aquarium that is free to the public with over 250 species in our aquariums plus several articulated skeletons including a whale and a variety of other exhibits and hand's on activities. Please let us know what we could do to improve.
Positive experience: Marine Science and Technology Center (MaST) is an aquarium with touch pools and More. It's a fun place to see fish and other inhabitants of the puget sound. Admission is free (Saturday 10 am - 2 pm) Donations are welcomed.
Hi Wildcraft Rose, Thanks for the kind words. Is there a reason we didn't get a 5 star review?
Fantastic experience: While smaller than I expected, we still had a great time and my daughter was super excited about all the different sea creatures!
Thank you so much for visiting and sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that you and your daughter enjoyed your time exploring the diverse sea creatures at our facility. We aim to create a memorable and educational experience within our cozy space, and it sounds like we succeeded with your family. We hope to welcome you back again soon for more exciting discoveries!
Fantastic experience: It's a request to donate, but like others said no shame in not doing so. It's a very cute little aquarium. Also a plus, dogs are allowed as long as they are well behaved. Odds are you'll have to wait outside to get in. It's only open one day a week. But it's a lot of fun. There's an info section and then the actual aquarium. As well as tons of staff members who really know what they're talking about with the different animals and environmental changes that are happening in our planet today. It's really cool.
Thank you for the great review! We're thrilled you enjoyed your visit and appreciated our knowledgeable staff and the insights they provided on marine life and environmental changes. We're also glad our dog-friendly policy was a hit! We understand our limited opening days might require some planning, but we're happy you found it worth the wait. We look forward to seeing you and your furry friend again soon!
Fantastic experience: I come here often and my 3 year old son loves going here! The staff and volunteers are great! Just don't go in expecting the Seattle aquarium - but it's phenomenal for what it is. So what is it? A local college's free teaching aquarium with a couple touch tanks, a dozen fish tanks with various local fish, crabs, sea horse, eels, and lots of PNW ocean life. It also has a large room that has revolving exhibits that teach about the ocean and its inhabitants. There is also usually ocean themed art on display and MANY skeletons are on display. I recommend you donate while there - but if you can't you'll never be shamed or judged. Enjoy!
Thanks Taylor. Appreciate the kind words and glad that you and your son are having so much fun sharing the experience.

Fantastic experience: Great little aquarium in Redondo Beach that was perfect for a toddler and for adults alike. We went on Saturday when it is free between 1000 and 1400. This great for those of us a budget and small enough to not be overwhelming for a little one. The best part was the volunteers were students from Highline College and those at middle or elementary school. We really appreciate the enthusiasm of the volunteers. They also do a live dive and simulcast to the TV's in the aquarium.

Fantastic experience: Educational & super fun art display, currently from the "Shrimp Whisperer".

Fantastic experience: This place is great! Lots of local marine life to see in the aquarium and very knowledgeable volunteers to educate you on the animals and their environment. The touch tanks are always fun to explore and the gallery has skeletons and other specimens to see and learn about. Their monthly and seasonal events are pretty fun, too. Definitely worth a visit, especially because it's free!
Fantastic experience: Highly informational and the staff is super friendly
Fantastic experience: Nice little aquarium to bring the kids. Can touch some of the animals and enough others to look at. Volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. Fun to walk down on the beach afterwards too. Parking is across the road... $1 for an hour or $2.50 for 2 hours. The machine takes cards and cash but DOES NOT give change. And after trying like a dozen times to get my card to work I ended up having to pay $10 for an hour of parking which is really annoying. Bring some $1 bills incase the card reader isn't working! Lesson learned. :-/
Fantastic experience: Marine science and technology center located on Redondo beach next to Saltys. Partially financed by Highline community College is free to the public from 10-2 on Saturday's and 4-7 on Thursdays. They have 2 open marine tanks for kids and adults to explore with a variety of marine life out of Puget Sound. There is 3-4 other big tanks with various marine life. The tanks are kept fresh with water piped right out of Puget sound. Fun place for families to explore.
Fantastic experience: Very cool! As a part of the collage it feels more used, the density of life in the tanks is staggering.
Fantastic experience: Marine Science and Technology Center (MaST) is part of Highline College. It is a great place to take the kids for an education on local marine life. Volunteers were eager to share their knowledge. There are two buildings, one with skeletal remains of some impressive sea creatures, and the building at the end of the dock has local sea life in tanks. There are two touch tanks. There is plenty of free parking on nearby streets and also a paid lot across the street.
Fantastic experience: The most amazing place for anyone to learn about our local marine animals. Inside you'll be able to see a real gray whale squleton among other marine mammal squeletons that are hanging from the ceiling. You'll be able to learn about their habitad and also how they ended up at the aquarium. This place is also part of highline community college, it has its own laboratory. In there they come jelly fish and you are able to see many of them at the aquarium located at the end of MasT's dock. The aquarium has over 250 marine creatures, some from collection dives and many others that come in naturally through the pipes. There's touch tanks and there's is a beautiful view. They have the best sunsets and the best informational events. Super friendly staff, the best people I have ever met. They are very knowledgeable on their field and they are more than happy to help you. Don't miss out on this experience.
Positive experience: Small but great place. Price is free and the volunteers are super helpful. If you are looking for a cheap (it's free) place to bring the kids you can't go wrong. They have a few tanks and touch ponds, and check the calendar for special events.
Fantastic experience: I have been here several times. It is wonderful free entertainment for kids and adults alike :) they have lots of fish to look at in aquariums in little tidepools for touching and exploration :-) they are also located by the the boardwalk at Redondo as well as a fishing pier. You could easily spend hours of peaceful exploring and beach combing. The view is spectacular
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to take young kiddos. It is small and very informative. The staff is run by student of the program, and they are all very nice and helpful. Be sure to give them a small donation, even though it is technically free.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful little aquarium with touch tanks and knowledgeable, enthusiastic employees and volunteers.
Fantastic experience: Great location for outdoor outing and exposure to the undersea life in the Sound. Very good for kids.

Fantastic experience: Gus is a great teacher. This place also has really nice fish tanks.
