Fantastic experience: Love Mark's new place. Been going to his store for years. Quality fish, nice selection.Even though I came in after the weekend...

Fantastic experience: I've been here a couple of times and they always amazes me with its great customer service that is engaging with you, very knowledgeable & helpful. They have plenty of all types of Ocean & Salt water fish that will leave you feeling out of this world.

Negative experience: Took girlfriend for a date, she thought I was hinting at a proposal, not an aquarium. She saw the jewelry store and pulled off leaving me in the parking lot

Fantastic experience: I have been a customer of Marks for many years and have always had excellent service by every staff member. They are always very knowledgeable about their products and what they sell. Have always been greeted politely and Frankie is always a pleasure to talk with. He is always friendly and again very knowledgeable. I have bought many of fish and shrimps from them and have referred lots of people to Marks.

Fantastic experience: So, funny story. I had to donate two catfish and called Mark's up and he told me he'd be happy to find a new home for them. I asked if I could come by the next day to drop them off as it was getting close to closing time at the fish store. He said that was fine. The next day, I prepare a travel container and manage to transport the two catfish to Marks. I pull up and see a bunch of filming trucks and whatnot and know something is being shot there. So, I park and I walk down the street with my container of catfish and walk into Marks. I was met by one of the film crew asking who I was and what I needed. I told him Mark told me to come by today to drop off these catfish, to which I showed him. He then contacted a fellow crew member to get a hold of Mark as he was in the back office. Another crew member took me around to the back entrance and I was met by Mark and he was happy to see the fish. I explained that I did not know filming was happening, but appreciated him taking these two lovely catfish. He assured me he would find them good homes. I left happy. Please visit this business! From what I was able to see of his store, he's got some amazing fish. With 2 additional catfish that he may or may not still have. Thank you again Mark, you have made a friend of me for life. Keep up the great work!

Negative experience: Just walked in looked around…. very overpriced for everything! Really bad service I walked in and was in there for at least five minutes and no one said anything to me.

Fantastic experience: The staff and owner are patient, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I have come to really love setting up my fish tank and keeping it healthy because of this. They have a great selection of fish for a store that is on the smaller side, which I really appreciate. This is the reason I ‘shop small’. I value mom and pop shops with caring, knowledgeable, passionate staff that are friendly and well run. Is it more expensive than ordering stuff from amazon or a big name pet supply? Probably, but if you buy from there you absolutely won’t be getting the same kind of support as you would at a place like this. They have helped me troubleshoot water issues, advised me on optimal tank cleaning as well as going over which fish and plants will coexist best when adding more to my tank. I love this place!

Fantastic experience: I've been getting fish and shrimp for my tanks and everything is worth its price. I love coming here specially for the selection of plants they have. They order a few different things every time they get new arrivals so it's worth checking every week to see if anything nice has arrived before anyone else takes it!

If you get lucky, Roy will be there to help you out and is very knowledgeable of the fishes in stock as well as how to care for them. If you're looking for common fishes and fiddler crabs, this is your go to place

Fantastic experience: Cleanest store in town with great quality and knowledgeable staff! Stopped by to pick up a couple flying foxes for the tank and they are tearing up all the black beard algae! Will definitely stop by again for a couple platys/swordtails!

Fantastic experience: I went to Mark’s Tropical fish for my first time today, and I was extremely impressed. Such a clean spot, beautiful displays and a wonderful selection of aquatic pets. You can tell they take good care of their fish. Isaac helped me out, and he was so happy to answer any questions I had, or talk about a fellow love of fish. He was very knowledgable and has a clear passion for his job/aquatic animals. He completely sold me on finally getting some African dwarf frogs, and they had some beautiful pure white ones! I highly recommend checking this place out. Their prices on aquatic pets AND plants are also extremely reasonable/good. I’ll definitely be coming back more.(:

Fantastic experience: As a long-time aquarist and marine biologist, I can say it is difficult to find a decent fish store, where the display tanks are clean, the livestock healthy, and the staff both knowledgeable and friendly. Mark’s is that place. Outstanding service, beautiful, hand-picked livestock, and a truly lovely setup of a store. Whether you are looking to add to your tank, set one up, or just want a nice afternoon experience, I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Fantastic experience: I’m new on salt water fish. Around the area is not many choices of good places to buy nice fish. Yesterday afterwork i went to Mark’s tropical and really felt comfortable there. 1.Clean place 2. Good variety of fish 3. Really nice and healthy fish( what i see) And the best part of everything is that Mark was really helpful. There’s nothing better than go to fish store and some body really takes time to explain good the process of almost everything. They was closing and Mark was still explaining. Definitely i found my Local Fish Store. Thank you Mark. After my tank is fully cicle I’ll be there. That’s what you call GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Fantastic experience: Mark's tropical fish has been around for a long time. Originally in Studio City and now in the NoHo district. Everyone is knowledgeable, and I have never had a bad experience. I would highly recommend this place.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Mark’s since they were in Studio City. I love the new location, and I’m happy to drive here all the way from downtown where I live now. Pros: -easy parking -brightly lit store -the cleanest fish store I’ve ever visited -doesn’t smell -no salt creep or hard water stains on the tanks -never any dead fish in the tanks -friendly staff The only con: -the small size means somewhat limited selection And on a completely irrelevant note that had zero bearing on my review, the employee with the sleeve tattoo and shaved head (Jason? Josh?) is so hot I’m surprised the tanks don’t boil as he walks by.

Fantastic experience: This place is VERY friendly, and VERY informative. I prefer independant spots like this over the dime a dozen petco's and petsmarts. Mark and his crew actually care about what they do beyond the business aspect, and it shows.

Fantastic experience: Went to Marks for the first time today and dealt with Isaac who instructed me on the best frozen foods talk to me about current status of life foods especially blood worms and their unavailability at the time and looked through their plant selection. Extremely friendly polite and professional A hidden jewel in the city is this store! A+

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. I bought my Turtle 3 feeder fish.. He chased them around the tank until he eventually ate them. I will definitely purchase more my Turtle seemed to be happy as he eagerly searched for more fish. I got the smaller feeders so he could swallow them without ripping them apart.

Fantastic experience: Got this Beta during Covid there and it was the best fish I ever had. Named it Rona! It lived to watch SpongeBob! Lol.

Fantastic experience: I LOVE it here! One of the things I most appreciate about this place is that they aren't afraid to say 'no'. Meaning they care about the fish, they aren't just trying to make a sale. This is my go to place for fish, fish food, plants, great fish advice and friendly talk. You will always find a nice assortment of healthy freshwater fish here.

Negative experience: I use to like this place but it has gone down hill. They dont do good trades and just to support them i got 6 kulhi loaches to get home and realize they only gave me 4 but still charged 6. I hate to say it but i dont think ill ever go back here. Just been to many problems everytime im there

Fantastic experience: I bought my wife a Fish Tank over the summer to become her little hobby, and Mark's has been amazing at teaching her how to best care for it. They've shown her tips and techniques, even without her having to buy some item; When she bought a small tank for her classroom and needed a filter, they literally opened a box, assembled one and showed her how to use it before she committed to buying it! They're great people, friendly atmosphere, and knowledgeable in how to help you get your aquarium up and running!

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a LFS that is welcoming, knowledgable, and realistic Mark's is the place for you! The quality I have noticed the most in this store is their honesty. If there is a question they cannot answer they don't make something up, they point you to the team member that can better help with the question. They will talk about everything fish related and it seems as if they're just having a good time rather than clocking in and working. A huge shout out to Taylor, she has been extremely helpful for me starting up my first tank. Due to her extensive knowledge my roommate also felt comfortable enough to start up a Betta tank as well. I could likely go on for a while writing about this place because they're honestly just that amazing. Go stop in and Mark, Taylor, the two other guys (I didn't catch their names) and of course Rico (the parrot) will make you feel like family. Most importantly, my fish are happy and healthy thanks to the care they received before I brought them home (two Apistogramma Agassizii, photo of them in my tank included).

Fantastic experience: Came in just to check the place out. Didn't know what to expect. Pretty much, best experience I've ever had at a pet store. I think Josh was his name, helped me out. Gave me a lot of tips on my planted aquarium and I came out with 6 fish and a whole lot of new knowledge on how to prep my planted tank for more delicate fish. He told me what to test in my tank and how to test it. I honestly didn't even know half this stuff. I'll be recommending this place to anyone and everyone who even mentions fish. Best believe I'll be back. I saw a lot of creatures I'd like in my tank. Very happy today and excited to introduce my new fish to their new home. Thanks guys!

Fantastic experience: Mark's Tropical Fish had become one of the best fish stores I go to to for my fish and aquarium needs. Their staff is very knowledgeable from fish behavior to water quality. On my last visit Roy answered all of my questions on a green bubble tip anemone. The anemone is happy and thriving in my tank, while other fish stores said it they were impossible to keep in a small tank. Thanks Roy for your knowledge.

Positive experience: $15.95 is a bit pricey for this smallish aquarium, but not unreasonable. At the end I let out a "that's it?!" The shark tank is too small and boring for all of its occupants :( I saw a big bite in one shark's tail area with red flesh streaming!! Cool but sad. I wish there were "no flash photography" signs up and employees regulating. Old people have no technological common sense. I want a hedgehog. Why are non ocean animals at an aquarium?

Fantastic experience: Best store for your aquarium needs in SoCal. The owner Mark is friendly and personally gets to know his customers. The worker Steve is also a nice guy. Left the store happy with my purchase. Got Discus from this store, all adjusted well to my city’s water & has no issues feeding on “bug bite” fish pellets alongside blood worms. My favorite part, I never seen such well maintained tanks in a store. This store is run by hobbyists not salesmen. Looking forward to seeing what happens next as the new store grows! The small store with great variety!

Fantastic experience: What can I say about this place, Josh and Roy are the MAN! Always honest, tell you what you should or should not do/buy. Super knowledgeable and will tell you the truth above all else. Many times I’ve come in and said “I want fish!” As a person just getting into the hobby it’s a breath of fresh air to be told to be patient and to have people you can trust to give you what you need when you actually need it. Been to many places that just want to sell when it’s not the right time nor right mix of fauna etc. Anyone interested in fresh or salt need to check this place out! Positive experience: This was a perfect venue for my 4 year old son's birthday party. All his friends had a blast and the aquarium is the perfect size for younger kids. They give you two hours and they have story time, crafts, and touch tanks to keep the kids busy. They also provide a couple of people to help out with everything and lead the activities. Overall it was a great experience and everyone had a great time!

I always have great luck with Mark's, the quality and rarity of some of his beautifully kept fresh and salt water fish are Unsurpassable plus Mark is Kind, Honest, and Trustworthy. Period! He has a plethora of useful information and Knowledge. So, If you deside to drop by plan on spending a good portion of your day at the store. I just love his live coral tanks. Fantastic experience: I LOVE Mark's!! Its a very friendly environment with staff that want to listen to you and help you. They have everything you need for a good price. They also treat their animals well, the fish look very happy and healthy!

Negative experience: I usually don't leave negative feedback unless it's really serious! Although the staff members are nice but the prices are very high compared to Underwater Depot which is close by. All fish are overpriced and have lower quality. Everytime I have shopped there, I introduced some sort of disease to my tank and I had many fatalities! Lesson learned for a huge price though; I won't set foot there anymore! Very disappointed with their store!

Positive experience: Every time I have come here, Roy one of the staff members has been there to help me. Roy is incredibly knowledgeable, honest and friendly. He always asks questions about our setup to give us the best answer for our tank. From what to look for in buying a fish, food or coral to water testing. Roy is the reason we keep returning.

Positive experience: Marks is definitely one of the better tropical fish stores in the Los Angeles area. The store is always clean and well organized, tanks are always kept clean with healthy active fish. Staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable, prices are normally reasonable, but some livestock and other items can be found for less expensive elsewhere. Salt water selection is great, with a wide variety of beautiful fish and invertebrates. Freshwater selection is hit and miss, fish are always healthy but sometimes the selection is fairly basic with nothing exotic or rare.

Fantastic experience: Came in here and had the best experience. Expert level staff, very knowledgeable, super friendly and helpful thru the whole setup. I came in here knowing nothing and left with not just a tank but the knowledge I needed to make it work. They wouldn't let me buy fish until they knew I knew what I was doing. Best Aquarium store Ive found in LA Area. Highly recommend to anyone who needs anything related to fresh or saltwater aquariums.
