Tropical Fish Shoppe has a huge inventory of aquatic life to select from, and if he doesn't have something you want, he can order you just about anything. He stands by his sales and live-stock, and is an incredible asset to the local freshwater community. If you're looking for Freshwater fish, plants, and dry goods, Tropical Fish Shoppe should be the only stop on your list.

Fantastic experience: This place is by far the best in town. Scott is super personable, his prices are extremely reasonable and his aquatic plants are top notch! We just re-did an entire 30 gallon tank with 90% stuff we got from Tropical Fish Shoppe! We are always happy with the quality of fish and products!

All of which are hardy and high quality, with new varieties coming in each week. There's always a beautiful array of driftwood, rocks, and other decor, as well as any necessities you may need for your aquarium. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality. Scott is welcoming, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. He always answers any questions you may have, and goes above and beyond with customer service. The Tropical Fish Shoppe is truly an amazing business and certainly should be a staple for any aquatic hobbyist.

Fantastic experience: This is a fish staple! Beautiful freshwater fish, invertebrates and plants. They also sell the most unique and gorgeous Bettas I've ever seen. Worth every penny and very hardy livestock. I don't go anywhere else for my livestock.

Fantastic experience: This is my go to freshwater aquatic store in the area. Scott and Alexa are very knowledgeable owners, and carry a wide variety of fish and supplies. If they don't have it they can normally have it for you by their next shipment. I've purchased a majority of my fish and plants from here, and while I do shop elsewhere my experiences are much better here. Here are a couple of fish I've purchased there.

Fantastic experience: In my honest opinion, this is the best local fish place here in Fargo, and their is no way around that. The owners are super friendly, and I could definitely tell they wanted to help. They have many plants, fish, and equipment for your tanks. Also, they have some more fun fish than you would see in like Pet smart. My favorite was the Red Devil which I linked a photo of. All round really great place would recommend getting fish here to anyone and they price fair.

And more gold fish but this is my favorite in town (fargo) shop *there is more then cichlids here. Fantastic experience: First trip over a month ago: Loved the whole experience at this local business. We purchased 4 fish from this couple and they were very knowledgeable and friendly, they answered every question we had. We will definitely be coming back next time we decide to add another fish to our tank. The cost was better than any big box pet store we've visited so far. Returned today and bought some shrimpies. Love the selection and the great prices at this place. Plus, the health of any of the fish we've bought have been fine, never any issues .

Negative experience: Cute place, nice employees, bought many fish and plants here! But, all the tanks in there are nasty, many dead fish floating around, lots of dead animals after like a week of owning fish from there, have us a dead snail (we didn’t know until we got home), etc. I recommend since it’s not a chain pet store but it’s still not the best

Negative experience: I have purchased a total of eleven fish from this place. And so far four, have died in the first week, and the other two died a few months later. My other fish in my tank I had prior to shopping here are still alive. They sell sick fish, do not buy from them. They will tell you every kind of fish can go with any other kind of fish, tank ect. Not sure how they stay in business? I see lots of positive reviews on here, must be in denial. I will go back to Petsmart.

Negative experience: The gentleman was rude to the kids, said he wouldn’t help us since the tank was purchased from Amazon. We were going to get all the supplies and fish there. But I guess they rather have no business, than ours since the tank isn’t from there.

Fantastic experience: Fish turn me into a kid again and the staff is super patient and considerate of my questions. Super cool that they take requests; if you've never gone through online transhippers it's a pain in the bottom. I use quarantine tanks because I realized the store owners aren't psychic so I have never had the issues other select reviewers mentioned.

Negative experience: 2/3 of the staff I have run in to are friendly. I have noticed that they never get in the way of a sale though. I took to the liking of a freshwater shark they had in there once, and asked if he would work in my communal tank, describing all the fish I had...of course the answer was "yes, that fish would work great in your tank..." no pros or cons provided of what could happen. Fortunately in our day and age, I can hop on google, which is what I did. Google did not seem to agree that the fish would work in my tank, so I did not buy it. I shopped at this place numerous times, despite this. Figured I'd give a local business my money, rather than PetCo. First experience here buying fish...bought 12 neon tetras. Had no problem with the at all. Fantastic. And their price was about 50 cents cheaper than the other stores, so that's about a $6 save...pretty happy with those healthy fish, and the money save...bought a couple plants as well that thrived. Next time, bought two Yin-Yang guppies. One died within a week after I got it. Figured it was either bad luck, or my fault for not having appropriate tank conditions... Later bought a glo-fish and Pictus catfish...When I asked about the Pictus, this was the second time I realized they would just say anything to sell their fish. I asked if it would work with my 50 gallon set up, and described the fish I had in it..."oh, of course it will fit in just fine!" This time I made the mistake of trusting them, and not researching...Pictus like partners, and 55 gallons is supposedly the bare minimum to hold one of them....while on this visit, I also noticed another tank that I did not buy from had a dead fish in it. I did not say anything about it, but wish I would have...this was the most recent encounter I had with them, and it will be the last. Not just because they clearly don't inform you about the pro's and con's of the fish you will be adding to your tank, but also because about two weeks later after buying these two fish, I had a major outbreak of ICH in my 50 gallon tank that had been thriving for about 3 years since I set it up...Most signs point to one, or both of these fish I bought bringing it in.

Fantastic experience: The Tropical Shoppe has great variety of freshwater shrimps. Cherry Red and Blue Dream shrimps and other Neocaridinae are almost anyways available, as well as amano shrimps. Sometimes crayfish are available, usually wild type, but occasionally electric blue crayfish. You nearly always get what you seek, and sometimes find a gem of a new aquarium denizen.
