🗣️ Tunica County River Park: Reviews
Fantastic experience: This is really an underrated place and has gotten some unfair reviews. The exhibits were great. The view was awesome! The aquarium was not much but that wasn’t important to us. This place was probably fantastic before Covid but the lack of visitors to this place has hurt. As we travel this great country of ours, we have seen museums, attractions and places of interest that have closed or only opened a few days a week. We can do better than this America. We are going to lose our history if we don’t support places like Tunica River Park. I’m only sad that the paddle boat was not there. I would visit this place again.
Positive experience: You have to call the number on the door to get in.There was alot of cool stuff in museum but alot of broken and not working displays.
Positive experience: Not much to do other than gamble round these parts... Nice distraction from the tables...
Positive experience: A lot of work has been done to make this place visitor friendly. Unfortunately, we happened to visit on a day when the museum was closed.
Negative experience: Went to walk the trails and found the boardwalks completely covered in a thick layer of leaves and new tree growth coming from them. Also large limbs blocking the trail. Very dissatisfied. There were workers there, working on the parking lot at the event center. Keep the areas that bring in money nice, but they don't use any of those profits to keep up the nature trails for people to use. Very disappointing. Views of the river are beautiful. But was more interested in the trails.
Negative experience: Once again disappointed ☹️. Have driven over four hours to the area with the river park on my agenda only to find it closed to public for private function. Have not been able to visit museum. They should post when having closers and not have website showing open. I have given them four chances during their "OPEN" hours. No more! Don't care how good it may be.
Negative experience: Our Riverboat Cruise docked there, middle of nowhere
Fantastic experience: Very nice two thumbs up love it
Negative experience: Attention Boaters!!!! Do not plan to use this boat ramp! The gates are always locked on the weekend and they do not keep the ramp cleaned off and clear so it can be used. Ive even called and was told it was being cleaned off after a trip up there and the ramp was covered in mud and was told they were cleaning it off that day and the next day….nothing had been done.
Negative experience: When this was built 20 years ago, it was probably amazing. When I went today, it was awful. The trail was overgrown, some of the fish had ick, and the museum needs some updates and TLC. This is sad, because there are some unique pieces of history presented here that I haven't seen anywhere else in the area. It's a shame Tunica isn't maintaining it better. Maybe some locals will form a group to preserve and restore what could be a jewel of the area.
Fantastic experience: Took my Two Grandsons here and they loved it. It takes about 1- 1 1/2 hrs to walk through depending on how much you stop to read every thing. Great information and History of the local area and Mississippi. They really need to update their short movie of the Mississippi River looks really old and picture quality was bad. Customer service was good, bathrooms clean.
Positive experience: Never opened, but we watched the river boats and walked around. Love it because there are not many people around .
Fantastic experience: Fantastic museum - one of the best I've seen on River history!
Fantastic experience: A beautiful access point to The Mighty Mississippi in Memphis. We enjoyed our walk. The Aquarium and Museum were closed, but the area is lovely.
Fantastic experience: Nothing to do than look at the structure until it opens, I never entered. I was feeling alone in the car park standing without anything to do.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely stunning views. The museum is prohibitively expensive, but the dock is free and well worth it!
Fantastic experience: What a great museum, very interesting. Great view of the Mississippi River.
Fantastic experience: Not to be missed historical and maritime museum! Excellent displays of artifacts from the Mississippi River and surrounding communities. Posters give a lesson in the people who established the towns along the River. The nuanced discussion of slavery gives credit to the remarkable achievements of African Americans in the face of unimaginable obstacles. The aquarium looks to be under development but is still impressive.
Negative experience: We did not go into the museum, I thought they were over charging to see the place
Fantastic experience: Great place to the mighty Mississippi River! I highly suggest stopping by and checking out the museum
Negative experience: It seemed abandoned and the trails are closed off.
Positive experience: Museum of Mississippi River worth the visit
Fantastic experience: Beautiful nature walk next to the Mississippi
Fantastic experience: I visited in stick season, so I'm sure it's prettier green, but there's a wide stretch of riverfront to give a sense of scale. There's an overlook with great views. One thing I couldn't figure out from the map was that the tree lined rows are all parking.
Positive experience: We went down there with Big Mama and them to get out of the trailer for a while. It was a nice place with lots of spots for Big Mama to set for a spell when her knee started ailing. Had some fish and turtles in a big tank. Had some Dr. Pepper and Cheetos in the gift shop when we was finished. It was a good day.
Positive experience: Just slow and low on energy. But the staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Drove by to see the Mississippi River at its current state.
Negative experience: Call before you come as the building was unexpectedly closed on the day we visited. There are pillars out in the lawn illustrating the river's height under various flood conditions. They are impressively tall. Hard to imagine that much water. There is also a paved nature trail along the river. It is marked as closed (for no apparent reason). It does need to be swept and to have a few small fallen trees removed. One can easily step over them.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful park. Watched a tug and barges go through. very quiet
Fantastic experience: Beautiful spot! Was on a hot day but this park is great and service is awesome!
Fantastic experience: One of the better museums I have been To
Positive experience: A museum focusing on the Mississippi River and how it has affected the history of the region. Exhibits on fossilized fish from prehistoric times along with aquariums containing many of the most interesting species of fish and turtles found in the river today. Also, an exhibit on the land dwelling species found in the forests along the rivers banks containing many fine mounted specimens on them. An extensive display of Native American artifacts leads into areas covering DeSoto's expedition into the region along with the early French settlements and the purchase of the Louisiana Territory by the United States and the lives of the early flatboat-men that traveled the river transporting their harvest to market. Upstairs one will find exhibits on the history of Mound Bayou, Mississippi, an interactive exhibit that puts one INSIDE an early diving bell designed by the famous inventor James B. Eads. There are also sections highlighting the War Between the States, the history of agriculture in the area, the efforts of the government to control the river through dredging and the building of levees, and in an exhibit on the Great Flood of 1927, what happens when all those efforts prove insufficient those tame something as powerful as the Mighty Mississippi. An elevator takes visitors to a third floor open air observation deck offering panoramic views of the river itself. I would have liked to have seen more models of historic riverboats from the past however. The adjoining River Park contains buoys on display and has a couple of observation piers for a more "up close" look at the river.
Fantastic experience: Visit to learn the heritage
Fantastic experience: Awesome view of the Mississippi River.
Negative experience: Was closed for wedding. Very disappointed kids. Need to post on the website if its going to be closed. So people don't plan it as part of their vacation.
Negative experience: The "aquarium" is one tank of catfish and one large snapping turtle. All the interactive exhibits are closed. Not worth anywhere near $14 a person
Positive experience: It looks like it would be a good place to go for a walk or enjoy the river. The museum was okay. It wasn't worth $14. The "aquarium" was some catfish, sturgeon, and a snapping turtle. It was interesting to see some of the stuff and how large the river actually is. No interactive exhibits anymore and no one seems to be visiting the area.
Fantastic experience: We had a great time today with beautiful weather watching the barges and taking pics,so glad to get out and breathe in the awesome river park
Fantastic experience: I'm from Michigan so I don't get to see tug boats every day. I saw 3 or 4 of them at this park in a couple of hours.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place on the inside
Negative experience: Hubby and I went for the nature walk. Still closed. Bummer. Was looking forward to it.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility! Overlooks the Mississippi River.
Negative experience: We stood waiting for 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged while the woman talked on the phone... we left ignoring us
Fantastic experience: A very nice museum about the Mississippi river as well as Mississippi history in general. It also has an overlook of the river and walkway along the river. Please be aware that they only accept cash.
Fantastic experience: One of the most beautiful over sees I’ve seen I went here to clear my head and got lost in the viewing all the way up to night fall. I also saw people out fishing so I’m going back for that. I’ve been trying to teach my niece how to fish and this would be the perfect spot. They also have this huge build up there that looks as if you can host big parties. The place was over grown some but I mean it has a lot of potential for different rentals.
Negative experience: Unfortunately, the day that I went it was closed several hours before closing time for a reception. So to whoevers it was bOo too you... I waited a long time to go there and didn't get to experience it. The lady in the front came out and yelled at some people that it was closed. Maybe they should have receptions after actual business hours!? Which they close earlier than most places anyways..... (Just a thought )
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn history about the Mississippi River
Positive experience: Inside wasn't open to public. Closed for private reception. Good review of Mississippi river.
Positive experience: It was neat to see another site of the Mississippi River and it was cool to go down right near the water, but things were very run-down, platform was cracked and seemed unsafe and was very dirty.
Positive experience: We went during the height of the pandemic and it was a very nice, big area to enjoy with the family. But nothing was open so we never go to see inside. I'll update this review once we've had a chance to get inside. The views on the outside are awesome though. Just be mindful, it felt quite isolated and secluded in my opinion.
Positive experience: Closed for cleaning. No signs telling you so on the road. View of the river is nice, so the few stars I give are for nature.
Negative experience: Very beautiful scenary of the Mississippi river. Unfortunately the day I went i was told the museum is currently closed down. Not sure if it was permanent but thats all I was told when I arrived. I visited on June 17th 2021 around 1pm. This place was much better just 20 years ago. Like everything else in Tunica Mississippi, just a lack of Pride.
Negative experience: A shame this beautiful land is just sitting here with so much potential! The birds of the air are getting more benefits than we are! So much Potential...
Fantastic experience: A great place to come walk the trails and relax by the river. The aquarium is awesome and the museum is great too.
Fantastic experience: Ms Tina the receptionist, customers services was Awesome!! Will definitely visit again!!
Positive experience: Gorgeous views of the Mississippi River. On a gorgeous morning. The crimp to all this vista is accessibility. There might be another way to get to it, but the only way I know is driving around and behind the Fizgerald Casino. As you circle around toward the employees entrance, you'll see the access road on your left.
Positive experience: Beautiful MS River View This place has so much potential. Highly recommend tourist to visit Riverfront Bar + Grill in Memphis, TN.
Positive experience: This place was pretty cool, and I feel like it may have been better if it wasn’t rainy and gloomy. Kind of felt like the museum was neglected, idk maybe it’s been a while since it was open due to Covid. Overall a cool experience.
Positive experience: Not their fault but a little windy and cool. But museum was pretty interesting
Positive experience: The only drawback is the walk trail is closed for reservations.
Positive experience: It is a great place to visit; however, it also seems to be closed a lot. When it is closed, you cannot access the river area.
Positive experience: Nice area. Wasn't sure what was going on or if the museum was open to the public this day. There was a DJ, music blasting which I didn't mind, but seemed like an even was taking place. I'll try again another day.
Fantastic experience: I've lived in Tunica County for 4 years, today I visited the Tunica River Park. Whar a beautiful place with beautiful scenery. I took a few pictures but not nearly enough! I will visit again when I have a little more time!
Positive experience: This is a hidden gem. The museum is cool and the outdoor platform on the 3rd floor is a great place to get some amazing shots of the river.
Positive experience: Very beautiful but closed on the inside
Fantastic experience: This park doesn't enough publicity. It's a beautiful place to take photos. You can just sit and watch the river and boats, or take a walk on the nature trail. We didn't visit the museum and aquarium this time, so I don't know if it's open during the covid 19 outbreak. It's well worth seeing if it is open.
Fantastic experience: There is a riverboat entrance here, a casino and a museum. You could spend half the day here.
Positive experience: The park was closed. Needed some cleaning but COVID seems to have everything in dismay. I would definitely come back when things are up and going. Beautiful scenery of the river.
Fantastic experience: The Tunica Riverpark is a hidden gem that needs to well known. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space for any activity. Look for upcoming events.
Positive experience: We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed the exhibit's.
Positive experience: The museum displays and art work are really good. Unfortunately due to a lack of funding some of the informational kiosks don't work. The view of this stretch of the river is impressive even in the winter.
Negative experience: We have been coming to the River Park since it opened. Due to the Mississippi flooding so much this past year the nature trail is pretty much nonexistent. One of the bridges still hasn't been fixed from the 2019 flood. Right now most of the entire park is under water again. We are from Minnesota and this has been one of our favorite places to go when we are here. We love looking for deer and any other wild life that might surprise us. It's always been safe and enjoyable. Mother Nature has disappointed us this year!
Fantastic experience: Oh my our favorite spot to be
Positive experience: A small yet pretty and very educational museum, in a nice setting next to the river. Very clean and well taken care of, despite the low attendance.
Fantastic experience: This place was a lot of fun. Cool exhibits and a lot of information as well as some interesting theories. The thing that's amazing to me is how it seems almost deserted even though it is staffed and we'll maintained we were the only guest there for quite a while, so you can probably go and have the place all to yourself. My daughters and wife really enjoyed the river right next to the museum, lots of cool driftwood and there were some neat sand formations left from the flooding. If you are looking for a place to go it's very nice, almost like a secret. I recommend this place and I'm very certain we will go again. Enjoy!
Positive experience: Don't bother walking the nature trail. About .5 miles in the bridge has been washed out and you can't continue the trail.
Fantastic experience: Watched the American Duchess cruise ship come in. It was very pretty. There are many rocking chairs to sit in which was shaded when we were there. There are restrooms. There is a very large boat dock. Large barges are going back and forth. Friendly and helpful staff. It has a nature trail which I did not do. It is right close by one of the casinos. Very nice distraction from the casinos. We'r didn't have to pay anything... we just came in to watch the ships come in and go by. Recommended by me and my crew. The Mississippi River is one of God's awesome creations. Go see it up close before you leave Tunica.
Fantastic experience: My favorite fishing hole, is straight across the river!!
Fantastic experience: We launch here to fish the river. They have a good boat ramp with plenty of parking. The park is nice. There are some walking trails and a scenic bridge overlooking the river. Overall it is nice.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place hidden in the middle of nowhere. Great history and beautiful sunset views.
Positive experience: Great museum! Great views. The gift shop is small but nice. I gave four stars only because they got rid of the river boat rides!
Fantastic experience: I was on the construction crew that built this place. I done a lot of Surveying on this project. I truly enjoyed the experience and learning the history while doing a cool job. Happy to know that I had a hand in building something that everyone can enjoy. That’s one job that will forever be with me.
Fantastic experience: Peaceful, beautiful, and very informative. The museum is worth it.
Positive experience: The Park was closed and trashy. It looked as though they were remodeling. It is an amazing view of the Mississippi River though.
Fantastic experience: Great place to spend time and learn about the river history.
Positive experience: This is a beautiful place but the main entrance and nature trail was closed due to flooding. There was not another soul around. Also the riverboat they used to have is gone. The view of the river is amazing though!
Fantastic experience: Its a great place to have party's and more
Negative experience: The artist Some ofThem where Lacking professionalism Wasn't enough wow factor.
Fantastic experience: The view of the Mississippi River
Fantastic experience: Love thus place to stop and eat a picnic!
Fantastic experience: This was a very nice place to visit . And sit and watch the Mississippi River flow.
Fantastic experience: I thought the Tennessee River was big and then I saw the Mississippi! The park had plenty of places to park and piers to walk out onto.
Fantastic experience: Love this place wether the weather is good or bad. Every weekend there is something going on here like weddings or conventions or other events, due to the of how gorgeous the scenery is. I love walking down to the docks here and watching the barges drudge up and down the Mississippi River. It is very peaceful and serene out there.
Positive experience: Very nice and educational telling about the Mississippi Rivee
Fantastic experience: Nice place and learned some history about the great Mississippi
Positive experience: Watched barg tow change workers to and from ship in river
Fantastic experience: Can we fishing around there?
Positive experience: This is a wonderful way to visit beside the Mississippi River. Both buildings and grounds proved immaculate and well staffed. There are well marked trails for hiking. The main building offers a historical view of river life in the day. Air conditioning is a welcomed respite on the warmer days. The gift shop offers a nice variety of momentos. My only disappointment was the lack of river boating options. One has to travel to Memphis for river boating.
Fantastic experience: Great place to have a party or wedding. Recently there were a blues show there. I love the scenery. Great place for pictures and afterwards watch the sun set on The Mighty Mississippi.
Fantastic experience: Loved it it was beautiful we attended an wedding there.
