🗣️ Schramm Park State Recreation Area: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Hatchery is a great place to visit
Fantastic experience: A great place for a short hike to run the kids and/or dogs. At the aquarium, I held a fox snake named Todd, and it was magical.
Fantastic experience: Such an amazing state park! The hiking trails are beautiful and safe. The geese are always a favorite to see! The new area where kids can wade in and look for minnows and other creatures is super cool. There are nice bathrooms, a water bottle filler, a playground, tons of tables to picnic at, and plenty of shade everywhere. Definitely a state park worth visiting.
Fantastic experience: Went there today was very nice used to go there all the time. They have remodel alot of the old fish stuff on the hill so that's totally different now but definitely a improvement. Its very family friendly, lots of kids playing in the water so I definitely recommend it for just that. Unfortunately the real old building was close for remodeling and roof repairs no big deal I will just have to return again.
Fantastic experience: I love this park I could spend hours feeding the fish in the ponds. In the spring the ponds also have hundreds of tadpoles. They finished their remodel this year adding a stream you can play in. The aquarium at the main building is also fun. When I went the catfish had a habit of laying in a wierd spot. They had to put a sign up letting people know "he is resting and not dead". I recommend this park to everyone.
Fantastic experience: This is a nice little state park in Nebraska. It has a decent trail with great views. It also has a nice playground. The river is closed by. They just built a natural pool from a nearby spring that contains fish; for a quarter one can feed the fish. It looks like a great place for a picnic as well.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely gorgeous place, came for my first time in a decade and had a wonderful experience. The ponds are becoming way more wheel chair accessible, the views are immaculate. Wonderful staff and a good price for a daily park pass. Thankyou for reliving my childhood
Fantastic experience: Love it here! Pups are welcomed as long as they are leashed! (Pups were unleashed briefly for the picture. They both have proper training and always leashed in public and on trails)
Fantastic experience: I went 4.13 miles, and it took me 1 hr 27 mins. I was on Hackberry Trail, Pond trail, and Riverview trail. All the trails were in pretty good shape. The riverview trail needed some mowing in some parts of it. There is a nice suspension bridge you go over and a couple of other bridges. There is construction going on over by the Gretna fish hatchery.
Negative experience: First they had full rates ($14 for out of state which in itself is a terrible way to get people to visit your parks Nebraska!) to park there even though most of the areas were closed/looking terrible due to "construction". Not all trail closures were even listed. Attacked by knats the entire 2 miles we walked, it is so bad it's debilitating for little ones who don't understand why bugs are trying to get into their ears and eyes. We were so disappointed with the views, bugs, and trails that we just left. Was the worst state park I've ever been to and we have been to over 15 states and many more parks. It's one thing to temporarily have these problems but it's another to not properly inform visitors and still charge them full price for your park.
Positive experience: Wonderful trails in the trees and hills. Beautiful trails through the hills.
Fantastic experience: Great hiking trails and impressive small state park. Right beside Platte River which you can walk to. Has a climbing area which the kids really enjoy. Total trails cover 3 miles with fairly easy inclines, great for a morning hike. They were doing prescribed burning while we were there this time so some parts were a little smokey but should make for some beautiful forest habitat in the future. Our hiking group included three of us in our early 40's and three teens, everyone had an easy time on the trails completing it all in less than 2 hrs. Plenty of benches along the way if you need to rest. Really cool bike repair station at pond trailhead that includes tools and a bike pump. Only place to fill water bottles was the education center.
Fantastic experience: Did not know they were doing construction on the park area so we couldn’t use the park but we hiked instead and that was just as fun
Fantastic experience: The park's most prominent feature is its pristine spring-fed pond, a tranquil oasis surrounded by lush greenery and hiking trails. The clear waters of the pond are perfect for fishing, and the scenic trails provide a delightful opportunity to explore the park's natural beauty. It's an ideal spot for picnicking, birdwatching, and wildlife observation, offering a sense of serenity and rejuvenation. One of the unique aspects of Schramm Park is its educational facilities. The Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium within the park provides fascinating insights into the aquatic life of Nebraska, with informative exhibits and interactive displays that engage and educate visitors of all ages. The park also hosts educational programs, making it an excellent destination for families and those interested in learning more about the local ecosystem. The park staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the park's natural and cultural history, and they are always eager to share their expertise with visitors. Their enthusiasm adds depth to the overall experience and provides valuable insights into the park's ecosystem. Schramm Park State Recreation Area is well-maintained, with clean facilities, picnic areas, and nature trails. It's a perfect location for a day trip, a weekend escape, or a serene retreat, offering a blend of outdoor adventure and educational opportunities.
Fantastic experience: We love hiking at Schramm Park. The trails are easy to navigate and cleared. There are a few different routes you can take so it makes for a great, diverse day of hiking. We always love getting to the suspension bridge too!
Fantastic experience: Fun indoor education center, reading nook with art supplies, interactive educational prompts by each animal, sensory play, bird watching, touch tank... It goes on and on. Great place to rest, clean updated restroom, indoor and outdoor play area, great landscaping.
Positive experience: Nice place for a hike. Trails are well marked and clean.
Positive experience: The activity centers is great for younger children!! Fun place to explore the outdoors!!
Fantastic experience: Something is under construction there. Excited to see what it is. The kids really enjoyed the new activities at the office.
Negative experience: This State Park is poorly maintained and an embarrassment to the state. Rock walls are falling over, boardwalks are in disrepair, and trails are poorly maintained. It would be nice if some of the entrance fees actually went to repairing the trails and facilities. Makes you wonder where the money goes.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful State Park along the valley of the Platte River that provides amazing views in the drive there. The bottom area provides a place to stop and have a picnic, feed some fish and check out a "archaeological" area. It also provides some great hiking trails. They provide 2 trails that can be combined to give you a nice 2 mile hike. The trail follows down to a cool suspension bridge and you can get down into the creek area and explore the rocks. The trip back takes you through the forest to a high area of pine trees. They also have a nice playground and picnic pavilion up the hill as well. Take a moment on your road trip and stop and visit this amazing place.
Fantastic experience: I took my two year old grandchild to the educational center at Schramm Park, and it was simply fantastic. There was so much to do, and she loved the animals, makers space and play area. She got in free, and it was only $10 for me to get in. Highly recommend this place for anyone with little kids. Great.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful scenes. They have rest stops along the trails
Positive experience: I like going to Schramm park for the trail. There is a suspension bridge and a few other scenic areas on it. The trail I prefer isn't difficult and is about two miles. I usually take my dog, as the trail is wide and there is plenty of room. The park itself is clean, well shaded with plenty of picnic tables, benches and a restroom. There are fish to feed and usually ducks or geese hanging around. Also, a little playground for kids. It's a good place to spend a few hours.
Fantastic experience: Always a great place to go. Great view of the river.
Fantastic experience: Great hikes, majority is covered so still ok on those hotter days. Proper footwear and water would be great especially if you're going to the bridge.
Negative experience: The visitors center admission is kind of expensive for a few fish tanks. Great if you have kids. Great park to hike, but can just skip the education center…
Positive experience: I love this place but it seems their is no upkeep at all sadly. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and the door wouldn’t even shut. The stairs, bridges, pretty much anything made of wood, on the trails were all falling apart and decrepit. I’m guessing not enough public funds to keep up with the maintenance on the trails. The fish pond at the entrance is beautiful though and a site to see.
Fantastic experience: We love Schramm! Perfect trails for toddler hikes, a playground, fishery ponds with 25 cent fish food, river access, lots of picnic tables, and restrooms.
Fantastic experience: Amazing renovations! Really fun activities at the education center for young children.
Fantastic experience: Great park on the river, love the trails and the suspension hiking Bridge.will be going back again
Fantastic experience: Super cool, loved thier 100th yr anniversary & the night hike they had
Fantastic experience: The trails were awesome. The main trails were wider, either packed dirt or gravel. There are hills and tree roots so the terrain varies. Lots of shade. The fish hatchery museum was not open but the area around it was interesting to look at. The geological site was pretty neat, too. Will definitely plan to visit again.
Positive experience: Peaceful, great trails to walk. Playground for the kids to play. Plenty of picnic tables thought out park. Not too busy with people either.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful place will go and visit again
Positive experience: Ok for small families with little ones, but not worth the $10 a head for large famies with older kids.
Fantastic experience: nice aquariums cool old hatchery
Fantastic experience: Fun lots of birds
Fantastic experience: Almost completely shaded trails make it easy to hike when it’s hot. The trail we like isn’t too hard so it’s great for kids and easy to access.
Positive experience: A great spot for walking trails with elevation changes. Fish hatchery is interesting. Lots of geese around unusally.
Positive experience: We had a pleasant experience and enjoyable hike. The scenery and trails were beautiful. We will definitely be back.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to relax and get away from the city.
Fantastic experience: Great time for the whole family outside and away from screens!
Fantastic experience: We had such a fun day here! My five year olds loved the nature center and the engaging scavenger hunt that added to the exploration fun! Then we hiked the park, saw the geese and fish, climbed the “mountain” hills and played at the playground. We will plan to enjoy this park in all the seasons to come. Many thanks to the joyful staff that welcomed us!!! Fun family day with 3 generations and mostly outdoor fun for CoVid safety.
Fantastic experience: Never been there before, the while family loved it.
Positive experience: The fish areas are fun for the kids. The trails are mostly clean. However, the trails are not marked well at all and the bathrooms by the playground and picnic areas are disgusting and not well stocked.
Fantastic experience: Second visit here. I enjoyed it very much. I'd say Schramm is a destination for family and people of all ages. Originally the site was a fish hatchery and it's boardwalk allows inspection of the legacy works. Adjacent to the Platte River, the Education Center features an aquarium and displays of interest. Definitely a worthwhile natural history experience!
Fantastic experience: It was nice for those that like outdoor in the woods
Positive experience: This is a good place for a nice, easy hike. The trails are wide enough to hike comfortably, and a typical hike will be between 2 and 3 miles long. I would recommend this for those seeking a quick exercise through the woods. The hatchery is also very scenic and a great photo op.
Fantastic experience: Very nice park for short or long hike. Fish hatchery is pretty amazing and at the cost of $6 per car is a very fair price to go out and enjoy. There was some other camp sites that seemed to not be taken care of which if the park is to attract people should clean the tall weeds up. The river is just across the road and you can rent a kayak at Louisville for $30 or so. Fun place!! Outside that, highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Amazing and fun experience for everyone so many things to do and u get to have so much fun I would recommend this place to everyone reading this! Can't wait to come back!
Negative experience: Not thrilled with it
Fantastic experience: The children loved feeding the fish.
Fantastic experience: Nice nature walk, it was great for younger children . We had our 8 And 11 year olds and they did great.
Positive experience: Went for hike on trails. Nice easy 2 mile hike. Not to crowded. Trails were not bad after a night of rain only few spots with puddles and mud.
Fantastic experience: I loved this park as a kid. It still has the beautiful ponds & nature trails
Fantastic experience: What a fun park!! Great hike! Very peaceful and calming! Enjoying watching the fish in the ponds!
Fantastic experience: Fun! It was great to get out on a nature hike. The path was well maintained. I think it would be a good place to hike if you're a little older. The hills weren't too bad. Some hills. Watch out for roots. Take your time. Me and my wife blasted through it too fast but we are pretty fast hikers out of habit haha. Very pretty. Most of the facilities are closed do to pandemic at this time. Get out there and see some nature!
Positive experience: Nice hike through the hills and trees.
Positive experience: Trails could use some maintenance but we still had fun and our kiddo loved feeding the fish and geese.
Positive experience: The admission price for aquarium/education center ($10 per person and $7 kids) is too high and not worth it in my opinion. I think we should encourage families to learn more about wildlife and the outdoors but it gets a little expensive for a family at those prices. It's nice that the old Aksarben aquarium was remodeled but disappointing in general. There could be more exhibits...lots of unused space.
Negative experience: Be warned. They say they have a mothers nursing room but it’s actually a bathroom that they threw a hard chair in. A mother’s nursing room should NEVER have a toilet. Very unacceptable for a mother’s nursing room! It is actually just a family bathroom. So disappointing. And it was not clean. The stuff also offered my older two children to bring a book with them, which was nice, but again. It was a bathroom so the children’s books are being taken in to the bathroom.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful place to spend the day with family and friends. Numerous activities for children and a fun way to learn about Nebraska. Featuring many fish, birds, plants and wildlife native to Nebraska. Walking and biking trails and beautiful scenic river views. Schramm park is beautiful any time of year.
Fantastic experience: Htrat place to take the family
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to hike for a few short hours!
Positive experience: The new stuff is nice
Positive experience: Took the number 2 trail loop to do my first backpack hike with new backpack. Nice little trail. 2miles, kind of short, but it works for training.
Fantastic experience: Phenomenal experience! Really great nature center. Worth the money and trip
Positive experience: My biggest complaint is purchasing a day permit. There is only a drop box with envelopes, so make sure you bring the exact amount you need to pay ($6 for a single day). The hiking trails are well kept, and my 4 yr old easily traversed the short loop. I'll probably go back again.
Fantastic experience: The newly renovated aquarium center is amazing for young and old! There is so much to do and learn, not to mention you can touch fish too! Pick up a packet of fish kibble and walk down to the old fish hatchery to feed the fish. My girls loved the experience.
Positive experience: New aquarium bldg is great, very interactive. The rest of the park is in poor shape. Not worth paying for parking there.
Negative experience: So they revamped the Aksarben Aquarium and increased prices DRAMATICALLY. SMH. My children were extremely disappointed after driving all the way out here without ac in our car to find that kids cost $7 each and adults are now $10! Absolutely ridiculous. After years of making this a regular stop I'm sorry to say we won't be returning anytime soon. Sad.
Positive experience: What happened to the abandoned?
Fantastic experience: live interactive kids area You can feet fish and geese and go hiking and they've got a really nice play area
Positive experience: We had a great time with the kids!
Positive experience: Schram Park is probably one of our favorite places to go with the kids. Make sure to bring a loaf of bread to feed the fish and birds even though apparently that's not a thing to do anymore, but it's way fun. My only complaint is that the trails are not very clearly marked and we ended up coming out around the boy scout camp and walking down a long drive because we were totally and completely lost as were the others we met a long the trail
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hiking large fish to watch even the geese were fun I know more than a park sticker it was a day of family enjoyment
Positive experience: Infirmative but the trout ponds need to be cleaned out and the place cleaned up
Fantastic experience: Love the park. Trails are great and kids had fun.
Positive experience: The hiking was decent. The nature center was very kid oriented. If you're looking for some to do with kids (3-10) it would be great. If you are looking to learn about the details of local flora and fauna, not so much. The fishery was a bit interesting, but they all looked like koi. That didn't make much sense to me. No info posted to make sense of it. They did have sturgeon in a touch tank. That was neat. I don't know if they have any intentions of releasing into the wild though.
Fantastic experience: Nice clean park with plenty for kids to do.
Positive experience: Would love to see the museum brought back into better shape.
Fantastic experience: It was the best experience I have ever had.
Positive experience: Fun but only free certin days so call ahead
Fantastic experience: The new facility is impressive
Fantastic experience: Me and the kids loved feeding the ducks
Positive experience: Lots of areas to hike
Fantastic experience: This park is an adventure of surprise s every time I visit from the old fishery ponds to the water ways and trails. This park has everything you could want.
Fantastic experience: To me Schramm park is a hidden treasure outside of Omaha. The place is a great place to get in a quick hike in. It's a great place for beginner hikers. The state is updating the museum. There is two holdings ponds that need to be updated. It's a great place to feed the ducks and geese.
Fantastic experience: This place is pretty great for hiking! We do the 3 mile loop, which has variation with ups and downs. The scenery is pretty and the trail is well marked! Would definitely recommend!!
Positive experience: Unfortunately the park isn't well cared for and the museum is never open. Gorgeous place though!
Positive experience: Main building currently closed due to being updated / construction. Nice quiet family park. Fishery is in need of updates. Starting to look deteriorated. Trails are easy and well maintained. Good picnic areas. Campground host should spend time picking up litter. Walked several areas where loose wrappers were on the ground in the fishery areas and on trails. Shame on those who can't dispose of their trash properly.
Positive experience: Love this place with the fish ponds and the trail. Just watch out for poison oak. Poison oak is everywhere.
Positive experience: We have gone every year for the past 7 years. Great place to picnic and feed thefish geese. The geese can be a little agressive but still fun. Used to have the small aquarium to look at but they are updating, a little sad to see it go, but Can't wait to see the new one
Positive experience: We like it somewhat but have always disliked the setup. Parking and trailheads don't really match, & the amenities seem sparce & trails seem fairly wild still. Not the biggest fan of the primitive feel of this park. Can't really put my finger on what it is exactly. Maybe the fact we keep coming back a bit too late in the eve or on days they are closed. Would love to get a map at some point if they have any. Best visit was last year when we went deeper on a hidden trail that went over 2 bridges, one if which went over some small flat rock features.
Fantastic experience: Great place for running, kayak, drift along in the river, the suspension bridges are all amazing!! Just a tip, be careful of the mama Swan
Positive experience: Great place to walk, see birds, butterflies, fish and a fossil hill.
Fantastic experience: I love coming out here. Reminds me of childhood. And there is no wheelchair access to the river. That would be suicide. Lol
Fantastic experience: Awesome public facility between Omaha & Lincoln. Right across the street from the Platte River. Plenty to check out..super unique place!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful park with a great play ground and walking and picnic areas. Fun to feed the geese and fish for the kids!
