Negative experience: I've been there many times over many years. Things have been in decline lately and if it seemed like they were actually trying to run a good business then I'd continue to give them business but lately their inventory is abysmal and the shop is closed or at least doesn't answer the phone after repeatedly calling in the middle of a regular work day during normal business hours. The last visit there I gave my name and info so when inventory comes in I may get a call, that call never happened. It's been months now lol. That was the final nail. Seems they can be dependable undependable.

I came in desperate need of help clearing a red algea in my saltwater tank that had unfortunately claimed the lives of almost all my species, but thanks to these people having actually knowledge of handling saltwater fish in an area that's incredibly hard to find. All my reaming fish are thriving and just as healthy and happy as ever thanks to this stores recommendations, thank yall!!

Fantastic experience: I had to surrender my fish because I am moving 12 hours away and they said no fish tanks. When I brought them in I was so upset but after seeing all of their beautiful tanks I felt better. The young man that helped us was very patient and answered all of my questions. He was gentle with my fish and even took his time to show me the tanks they would be going in. All the tanks looked very clean and there didn’t seem to be sick or dead fish in them. I’m very appreciative of them and would highly recommend!

Negative experience: I previously gave this place a five star rating. That was before I did any business with them. First of all the shop is a mess and horrible to shop. Half of the fish on display are not for sale because that makes sense. The layout is dark and the shop feels cluttered. My biggest gripe however is the owner. He has horrible communication skills. I spent a huge amount of money at this shop and it was like pulling teeth to get any kind of information from him. I want this shop to be great as its the only one in Springfield but as of right now its not worth dealing with. It's so bad that I am going to drive an hour north just to go to a aquarium shop that does things right. That all said if things were to get better at this shop I would absolutely shop here again.

Negative experience: This place doesn’t have a return policy bc they know they sell sick fish. Had to wait on my parrot fish bc they were getting some sort of “treatment”…. Got them home and within 24 hours, all my other fish (that have been alive and healthy without issues whatsoever) are dead and the 2 parrot fish I bought from here for $50 (outrageous) are barely hanging on and I’m sure will be dead soon too! These expensive parrot fish have killed my whole tank, including my fish I had over 4 years. And more stuff is growing in my tank that I’ve never seen. This place is awful. I wouldn’t recommend spending a dime on their overpriced sick fish.

Positive experience: Mike is a great employee there. He's very knowledgeable, always willing to help out and answer questions. The shippe itself, on the other hand, seems to be going downhill. The owner just doesn't seem to care about the customers anymore.

Negative experience: Pet smart is better than this store and the pet smart employees know more about their fish then this FISH store. Aquarium shop makes sure all fish are “disease free” how do u know that when u told me you know nothing about the fish I was purchasing lol. The fish died within 24 hrs….. I have had multiple of these type of fish for many years and know what kind of environment and conditions the tank and water needs to be, so I feel this one is not on me. Since “all their fish are disease free” they have no return policy. If a fish dies with in 24hrs or even 72hrs from ur store especially with an experienced fish enthusiast. In my opinion should be able to be taken back in exchange for another fish. Also this fish was $25….. I buy a lot fish/stuff and this store will not be getting my money again.

Negative experience: I won’t get fish there again it would cost me less money to have the fish shipped to me than what they charge and they don’t have a return policy I got a peacock cichlid for my tank waters been tested everything’s fine but since I got it its acted weird and just died after the first day

Negative experience: This shop has really gone downhill. Most staff have zero knowledge about what they are talking about. (mike is the only one there that has any clue what hes talking about) Saltwater tanks are LOADED with pests (aptasia, starfish) they haven't been getting in any new coral shipments in for months. (frag tanks have a bunch of coral but none is for sale as it all belongs to tanks that they maintain) Store has had a display tank that has been out of order forever (300g that sprung a leak that they have been repairing for a year). and everything is super expensive compared to online/Petco. Entrance always looks super cluttered. (bunch of nasty used equipment laying around as soon as you walk in) they have a few nice employees over the years, but majority of the time its kids who have zero idea what they are doing and maybe have a little beta tank at home. Saltwater side of this store is a complete joke. maybe fresh is okay idk don't keep fresh and don't pay much attention when I walk in. owner maintains tanks for a living also, so kind of seems like this is a "side job" almost. Also never buy RODI/SALT water from them, filters rarely get changed and salt levels are never stable.

Negative experience: Not a great experience place seems to have gone downhill. The guy worker there ?Mike? Is just a creep wouldn't stop staring at my breast the whole time I womt be back for that reason alone. But other wise, Bettas looked horrible, high prices almost 3x as much as just buying from the breeder.

Fantastic experience: I've been messing with fish for awhile and I found this little out of the way place that I really love to go to for all my fish stuff. Found an albino African cichlid! Really pretty boy. The store clerk was overwhelmed but handled herself really professional. Service was quick and courteous and the fish I bought were priced lower than fish that I would have gotten at a name brand pet store. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: I went about a month ago to get fish and it was my first time. I was expecting it to be a pretty small shop, judging from the front, but when I went inside, I was pleasantly surprised by all the tanks in the back. The white cloud minnows I got are thriving, the sponge filter works great, and the guppies I got look great. I lost one female guppy recently, but I'll definitely come back to get more females. I've gotten a handful of babies from the ones I bought and I'm looking forward to getting more. The guy working that day had answers for all the questions I had about breeding fish, as that is something I would like to start doing, and which fish would be most profitable. I've seen a couple other people comparing the prices of fish and plants here to the ones at chain stores, but there's a good reason for that. The quality and health of the ones here are WAY better than the ones at chain stores. I'm looking forward to my next visit here.

Fantastic experience: We have looked at all pet shops, but Aquarium Shoppe was by far the best. The fish looked all healthy and Kevin was extremely helpful. We will only go here for our aquarium needs.

Negative experience: Nice selection of fish, and gorgeous tank layouts. The man who was working was very nice and helpful. The lady I talked to however, made me feel awful. I felt talked down to, and her comments of , "If you want to do it that way" honestly set in my mind that maybe this hobby wasn't going to be for me. Not for lack of interest in it, or willingness to learn, but just the way I was being treated. I went to Petco and bought my fish and tank accessories there instead. All of the people I saw while visiting the Aquarium Shoppe also went to Petco right after. Could have been a coincidence, but I thought it was telling.

Fantastic experience: Had my first visit yesterday! Drove 2 hours just to check them out because I am so frustrated with the health of my fish from the big box stores. Everyone was so helpful, I was even given a start of hornwort! Everything was thriving and healthy and it was so good to know many of their fish and snails were provided by local hobbiest! I will definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: I've bought about half of my fish from this store. Customer service is great. Staff was knowledgeable. Prices are 50/50. Some extremely low, some a little high. Blue Jack Dempsey babies for $5? That's crazy low. Really great selection and great care taken of the fish. I drive 106 miles, round trip, to shop at this store. Best store to get your fish in sw Missouri.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this store! You can tell just how much pride is taken in caring for these fish. Kevin and the other staff are always awesome to chat with and are incredibly knowledgeable, they're a great help whenever I have questions. Anything this store doesn't have I've always been able to order from them, and they have alot! Every time I go into the Aquarium Shoppe I get the chance to see or learn something new. At this point I've stopped using petco and petsmart entirely because this store is just so much better.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely gorgeous fish and tanks. If your looking for corals and anemones or maybe someone local who can get you setup with a marine tank then I would say look no further. If your in the Springfield area looking for a tank setup and/or healthy vibrant fresh/saltwater fish stock then there really is no alternative.

Negative experience: Beyond rude honestly. I was a bit off put by the prices. (Because they are so much higher than anywhere else.) I casually mentioned "Hey, is everything here just higher quality or local? And that's why it cost so much?". The answer I got "Well I'm not forcing you to shop here. If it's more than you can afford, than don't buy it." As you can imagine, I left.. Catapa leaves here are $6.50 for 3 leaves. Same brand, same pack is $1.99 at petsmart.. They sell a 10pck, for $11.. but you can find that on Amazon for $4.99. Neon Tetras are $1.79 at PetsWay... Yet $3.50 here. Potted aquarium plants were $9, and potted plants at Petco are $4.99. Mind you, I was actually planning to go through this shop for the 75-120 gal salt water tank that was going to be displayed in one of my office locations. I had been in several times making equipment list, and budgeting for this new project. Needless to say, I would not be comfortable working with this shop, if when I come in to shop for my own personal takes they are so rude.

Positive experience: Prices are ok on the salwater items. Most are slightly over priced. The store is like a sauna when you walk in. The young man i dealt with didnt seem to know a great deal about the frags i was asking about and tried to fumble his way around telling me things were items that they weren't. The tanks looked really dirt except the actual display tank. Very slim saltwater selection.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous place to purchase anything to do with fish, either freshwater or salt water. They have fish, aquarium plants, and other pieces to go in all aquariums. They also can recommend which fish you should get to cohabitate with your other fish, along with locally grown fish!

Fantastic experience: Love this little shop. Love the products they have. Their rocks and driftwood seem to be cheaper than corporate pet stores. The biggest 1 for me is they have the aqua vitro line of products that I love.

Fantastic experience: Not a huge variety, but all around nice local shop that has fresh and salt water options. Fish all look healthy and they have a good selection of rocks to aquascape. They do also sell tanks that are a little pricey, but one of the only local places I've found that carry cubes. *Edited to add* purchased a small amount of cherry shrimp and they are thriving! Beautiful colors and very active.

I went in is this a simple simple civilian when I left I was more mightier than the Aquaman himself razaa I sang from the sidewalk curb top.the cream shop is the hero Springfield needs but doesn't deserve God bless them or whatever you like to give praise to them

Fantastic experience: I shop for and am only familiar with freshwater aquariums. One of the main reasons I prefer this store is b/c they keep bettas in cubes or community tanks. I can't stand how big-box stores keep them in little cups! The aquatic life & plants are healthy & well-cared for & staff are knowledgeable. Selection is good. I like the tanks and hardscape options they have. Prices are reasonable. This might be partly b/c of covid but there tends to be only one staff working, so I'd encourage visitors to be patient and make sure you're not in a hurry. when they get your stuff they take their time and make sure you have what you need

Negative experience: Tanks are dirty and everything dying. Customer service is hit or miss. Coral tanks covered in aptasia, not a well maintained place.

Fantastic experience: I learn something new everytime I enter this place. Great employees, a beautiful display of plant and aquatic life, and a great variety for fresh and salt water tanks.

Negative experience: This place used to be the best pet fish store in town. The last two times we have visited have been awful. I went a couple months ago, dirty tanks and dead fish galore. We decided to give them one last chance before switching to Petsmart, so I sent my wife with a list of the fish we wanted. After she had completed the transaction, the employee told my wife "oh yea, those fish just arrived yesterday." Had I been there we would have canceled the transaction then and there, but my wife didn't know to do that and didn't tell me until she got home, when it was too late to get a refund. Sure enough, so far 7 of the 9 tetras have died just 2 days later, because they weren't given adequate time to adjust between tank transitions. Stay away. This place rides on its reputation, which is no longer deserved, at all.

Negative experience: Been a while since I've gone here for anything. The service has been a joke and not going back. There are better shopes for fresh-water and saltwater in the area. Simply Reef Aquatic and Ozarks Reef Aquaria put this place to shame. Try these places out for yourself and you be the judge.

Fantastic experience: To set the tone, I drive from Lebanon to pick up fish from Aquarium Shoppe. This is not just because of the outstanding quality of fish, but also because everyone here I have spoken to has their own niche within the hobby and are very knowledgeable - they're also super friendly. (Looking at you, Kevin). I have purchased 5 discus, among several other fish (loving the mbuna tank btw) from this store over the last year. I mention the discus because they are known to be "difficult" to keep. All of my fish have lived and are absolutely thriving. While they don't guarantee live animals, whether they live or not depends on the buyer. You are in charge of your animal's well being once it leaves the shop. Just do your water changes, watch your temperature and how much you feed and your fish will be fine! Each time I have purchased fish from here, they have been of the best quality and never sick. Any time they suspect a fish may be sick, they always quarantine for observation. It appears they also source from local breeders when they can, which supports the community. They have an excellent selection of fresh and saltwater fish, several frozen foods, decent deals on tanks, along with some nice scaping materials for your tanks and extra aquarium supplies (sumps included). On SEVERAL occasions, I've walked in and was greeted by someone cleaning tanks, so the fish are always very well cared for. If you're looking for a new LFS that knows fish (not just sells them), look no further.

Negative experience: I enjoyed this store until I found out that this shop, "makes no guarantee that the fish you buy will survive," -Employee on the phone. Four fish were purchased and two died two days later. Great selection of fish, plants, and rare finds but no guarantee. I will take my business where I know I can get my money back if a fish passes within a few days of purchase.

Negative experience: Not quite sure what the employees name is what is the bigger guy brown hair kind of curly hair on top when a couple tattoos on his arms of flowers this makes the third time I came into the shop in each time I have felt as if I was a bother to this man I stood there for about 15 minutes before I was even recognized as needing help I basically had to tell the man should I come back when you have more time as he was just standing there talking to another customer didn't appear to be conducting any sales at that moment I guess to say the least the customer service there is very poor

Fantastic experience: Always great experience here. We love the beautiful options. They have very friendly staff and you can't beat the price on fish. I was paying 5.99 a piece for little angel fish at pet stores and I just got them here for half that price.

Fantastic experience: Great location for this type of store as it seems to be the only one of it's kind in most of Springfield. Not the biggest store but I'd take that as a good thing. Half the store is salt water, half is fresh. Great place to go if you'd like medium to large cichlids or plants.
