Mertailor’s Mermaid Aquarium Encounter

Fantastic experience: I went yesterday with my daughter and husband and had an amazing experience! It was our first time and it exceeded our expectations! Kids love it and me as a 36 year old mom was amazed by the mermaid show! Also the staff was amazing, friendly and KIND! We need more places like this! Thank you everyone for being so awesome! ❤️‍♀️

Fantastic experience: The hidden gem in Citrus County. You pass by the place and it doesn't say much, but once you go inside you're in another world. It is not a gigantic place but the fish tanks are beautiful, friendly stingrays that come to you to be petted, beautiful parrots. The admission is reasonable, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: This aquarium is amazing, and such a great way to spend an afternoon. So many wonderful sea creatures, and an exotic bird rescue are in residence. The showpiece is a large salt water aquarium with fish, rays and sharks where a lovely mermaid puts on a fabulous show with music.

Fantastic experience: It was a blast. A small aquarium with a personal collection feel to it. The staff seemed pretty knowledgeable about the marine life and took the time to explain things to the younger attendees. The scavenger hunt was top-tier in getting the kids to slow down and let the parents enjoy the animals. The Mermaid show was the best in town and we got the chance to watch a new mermaid do one of her first solo shows required to get her fins.

Fantastic experience: My daughter and I went to Mertailor’s Aquarium today because it was in honor of my husband who passed last year. Being the first Father’s Day without her father we wanted to go to a place that represented what he loved, the sea. The staff at the aquarium was very nice and accommodating. They have many exhibits. Including touch tanks. I never thought I would think a stingray was cute!!! The mermaid show was very nice. They announced why we were there before the show. My daughter and I were touched by this gesture. The gift shop is also very nice. I purchased a necklace made by a disabled veteran. I highly recommend this place because of the staff and the diverse exhibits.

Fantastic experience: We took my two daughters and my mom on a Sunday and had a great time! The aquarium itself is very nice. It's on the smaller side, but perfect for the time we had. There's so much to see in a small area. They keep it very clean and there are employees all around to answer questions and to help if needed. My kids had the opportunity to touch a ray and a starfish. Afterwards we saw the mermaid show and I was very impressed. I couldn't believe how good the show was and how long the mermaid held her breath. If I didn't know any better I'd say they had a REAL mermaid here! Great time!

Fantastic experience: A nice little aquarium with a fun for all ages mermaid show. We arrived much earlier than planned but the nice lady at the front moved us up so we could see the show at noon rather than waiting til 1:30. We walked around and they have a good amount of fish etc. You could spend maybe 40 minutes to and hour here. Maybe longer with small children. The mermaid show was nice and you can tell she loves what she does. I wish they displayed the story on the two small screens for people who may be hard of hearing plus all the aquarium sounds and people murmuring going on. It would just be nice to know what the story is , it was a little hard for me to hear. Overall it was a fun experience and definitely worth a drop by!

Negative experience: The aquariams were informative and well kept. The "mermaid" show was definitely not impressive. They informed us she was a trainee. I really didn't spend $65.00 for my grandkids to watch a "trainee" who did virtually nothing but lay on the bottom and breathe quite often from a tube. Disappointed.

Positive experience: The aquarium was great. But I was disappointed in the mermaid show. Instead of the actual show they had one of their trainees perform part of it. I understand the importance of training, but it should be pointed out when purchasing tickets online that it will be a trainee that is still learning and maybe the price should also not be the same.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff. Eric himself was there and working with his employees even throwing trash out. Blue knew everything you needed to know about the best touch tank for rays in central Florida. Great interactive mermaid show place, well worth the low price.

Fantastic experience: I brought my class of students with disabilities to the Mertailor's Mermaid Aquarium Encounter today. Staff was accommodating, professional, knowledgeable and kind. My students were enchanted with the mermaid and merman and all of the birds and marine life. Many of them had new experiences, today thanks to the patience and gentleness of staff. One of my kiddos fell in love with a mermaid today. Not every business goes above and beyond to accommodate people with disabilities, but this is a sensory friendly experience for all to enjoy!

Fantastic experience: I gave my daughter a "mermaid tour" of Florida for her birthday and stumbled across Mertailor's. I was not entirely sure what to expect but I am so glad I took a chance! My daughter and I had an absolutely magical morning here. We booked the mermaid encounter and the staff at Mertailor's made her dreams come true! They were so patient and kind and made her feel so comfortable in the water. I would highly recommend this experience as long as your child is comfortable in the water and swimming with some very friendly aquatic animals. After the experience we explored the aquarium, it is small at first glance but the displays are packed with the most interesting marine life so we took our time. The staff were so friendly and knowledgable and you can tell they genuinely care for these animals. We had a smile on our face from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. This is an absolute gem of a place and worth a visit if you are nearby.

Positive experience: This was more than expected. The fish, birds, sharks, etc were very interesting. Always someone nearby to ask questions. Not just for the kids. And yes! Mermaids are a thing. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Such a great experience. I dragged my boys because I love Mermaids and watched the documentary. The mermaid suit was 10x better than Weeki wachee mermaid suits. I just loved the small intimate setting

The aquariums are gorgeous and the staff are very informative and friendly. The majority of the woman working on the floor are also mermaids in the shows provided which are awesome! Fantastic experience: Great aquarium! Several petting tanks. Limited group size assures everyone gets an opportunity to view the display tanks and petting tanks. The large parrot cage was a surprise. And the mermaid show was great too. My wife and I will definitely be bringing the grand kids here when they visit us.

Fantastic experience: My granddaughter had the experience of entering the tank dressed as a mermaid, and Mr. Eric was very patient with her. She came out happy and eager to do it again. We loved the place.

Positive experience: We took our grandchildren there on a rainy day. Quite honestly the small displays were just ok. The mermaid show was a disappointment because they allowed too many people in for the time slot allotted and the kids could barely see. There were absolutely no seats available for any of us. Putting that many people in at the same time is not safe, it’s greedy

Fantastic experience: I recently took my daughter to this new aquarium. I was so excited to show her the mermaid! Having never been before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The aquarium was smaller than I anticipated, but that actually worked out great! It was easy for my daughter to explore without me worrying too much. The staff was incredibly friendly and informative. The woman who greeted us was especially kind, taking the time to explain that the show we booked featured a merman instead of a mermaid. She even offered us the option to return later to see the mermaid. While this offer was appreciated, if you’re coming to enjoy the magic of the show and the artistry of the merfolk, the gender of the performer shouldn’t matter. Overall, we had a great experience, and I’d definitely recommend visiting!

Fantastic experience: A delightfully education and truly kitschy experience. Touching sting rays and starfish was fun. We were surprised with a one-merman show with Mertailor himself Eric! Approach it with a sense of whimsy and you'll have a super time. It's a great 2 hour adventure.

Fantastic experience: What a great activity to do with my sister while visiting. It was so fun to be able to pet the sting rays and starfish while learning more about water animals. I also loved seeing the baby shark eggs hatch tank and seahorses that close. Would highly recommend a visit. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly ensuring everyone has a magical experience. Be sure to allow yourself an hour and a half to ensure you get enough time to walk around the learning side and then enjoy the show!

Fantastic experience: Love the mermaids and mermen! I got to see a live digital tour and performance from across the continent of this absolutely fantastic facility. It's clear the animals are given the upmost care and attention, with so much focus on education and outreach - especially toward kids. It's so great to help kids connect and feel a sense of ownership over the ocean environment. The performances I have seen were impressive. They were both holiday themed. My 3 year old son loved watching the skeleton merman "skele-man" as he called him, and as a mother of a son who LOVES the water, it was so awesome to see some merMEN. So many boys love this but only get to see girls do it, so it's great to see those sharkey mermen up there! it left such an impression on my son we often scroll the social media to look for new videos or replay old ones. The athleticism involved, the underwater tricks and stunts, the cool way the performers choregraph even the bubbles, the themed costumes, the music... you can tell you're watching top notch skill! I love that they also have a great giftshop on site, AND the next thing I plan to do is their service where you can get in the tank yourself! Looking forward to my next trip down and seeing these talented folks in person. Love from Canada

Negative experience: 1 star because I couldn’t give 0 stars!! Our experience was extremely disappointing to say the least. At no time did the website hint that this would be a new unsolicited expedience. Instead of a Mermaid it was a “merman” buyer beware call and ask which show will have the New experience Merman show. Otherwise you are stuck with the New experience

Fantastic experience: Citrus County has a hidden gem with this experience. Not just children enjoy the magic of mermaids/mermen. It is also very educational. We especially enjoyed the hands on portion. The staff is extremely pleasant and well informed.

Negative experience: Very upset with our experience. Came here with my husband, mom, dad and two daughters, and the mermaid was a male. nothing online about a male mermaid. will never come here again!

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and informative staff, went to there Sunday 2:00 o’clock show and really enjoyed it. Got to feed the sharks and stingrays as well, which is something that my sister and I had never done before. She’s visiting from Vegas so I was glad I was able to bring her to this unique place, that she will always be able to remember citrus county from. The store had some pretty cool merch as well. Just would like to reiterate the friendly staff part.

Fantastic experience: Wow! I had no idea about this hidden gem until someone shared it with me! I took my granddaughters to visit and they had a blast! From feeding sharks to petting the stingray, they throughly enjoyed theri time! And , let's not forget the mermaid show--absolutely fantastic! We want to shout out Emily and the entire team for their welcoming and friendly conversations! Also, Emily, who was very attentive to the girls during their interactions with the stingray and the sharks and informing us of lunch options! We will definitely stop by again and will share our experiences with others! Great time had!

Fantastic experience: Had a great time! The staff was so accommodating and friendly. They all wanted to chat and share their knowledge. Emily and Blue helped us out a ton especially with the kiddos that were nervous to feed the sting rays and use the touch tanks.

Negative experience: Aquarium side was great! The mermaid show was a waste of money!! Waited an hour to watch one MAN mermaid that wasn’t even a kid friendly show. Change it to some children music.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been wanting to bring my granddaughter to this aquarium for a while and this year we finally made it. The excitement of seeing mermaids was evident when we arrived. She loved walking around and interacting with the animals. The mermaid show was the highlight of our visit. This little aquarium is worth the trip. The grown ups loved it too.

My mom and I enjoyed the beautiful healthy sea animals swimming with eachother and the mermaids in harmony a very peaceful place to visit, loved it! Negative experience: Very disappointing drove from tampa to come there got to the building and it's super tiny and was nothing expected it needs a bigger building. Inside is pretty but not worth the money you can finish the walk through in no time the show was ok

Fantastic experience: A great half day experience. It's great for out of town visitors as well. You enter through the gift shop, then circle around through an aquarium, bird sanctuary, and onto the mermaid show. There are several guided touch experiences for little hands. Staff is well educated on every exhibit. During the visit, younger visitors can do a "seek" and find "they earn a small" toy. The mermaid show is around 30 minutes. She swims and dances to 3 songs. Fun trivia~, the founder is a merman and makes all the costumes! I highly recommend this. Our grandchildren loved it.

Fantastic experience: This was a quick stop on the way to do a manatee tour. Loved it!! We all had a blast feeding and petting the stingrays. The entire facility is so clean and carefully thought out. Tons of fun! The mermaid show was awesome--how does she sing and look graceful with a smile on her face for 30 minutes in cold salt water? So much talent! The Mertailor is super nice too--check out the Merpeople documentary on Netflix.

Fantastic experience: This little aquarium is a must see! Stopped here twice in the past couple years on our vacation from Maine. The layout has changed a bit and some new fish have been added. The helpful crew remains the same but they've added in some scavenger hunt fun! Even the adults can play and win a cute prize. They offer shark and ray feeding for a small fee. I recommend the ray feeding, it was so cool!! The mermaid show is captivating and keeps everyone entertained. They did however use the same music and only one mermaid this year as opposed to two mermaids a couple years ago. I was surprised to see the 11am slot didn't have many guests on a Sunday, there was plenty of sitting room for the mermaid show. I'd love to bring my granddaughter if I ever vacation with her here!

Fantastic experience: Magical! A remarkable Underwaterperformance by Eric and Annie! World class. The aquarium plus the mermaid /merman show is a true value. The children and families were transfixed and had so much fun. The touch tanks are immaculate and so healthy. The variety of sea life is extraordinary from all around the world, saltwater, and fresh. The knowledgeable staff were more than happy to teach me all about the animals. A jewel.

The highlight was undoubtedly when our teen signed up to swim in the tank with a mermaid tail. Watching her glide through the water, fully embracing her inner mermaid, was magical. She even got to pet sharks and stingrays while learning more about these fascinating creatures, which she absolutely loved. After her amazing activity, we explored the rest of the facility, and it did not disappoint. We were fascinated by their mermaid tail factory, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at how these beautiful creations come to life. Hearing the founder’s inspiring story added a heartfelt touch to our visit and made us appreciate the vision behind this unique destination. Another highlight for all of us was the chance to interact with the animals. From petting the sharks and stingrays to meeting and cuddling with their rescue birds, the experience was engaging and full of surprises. Fantastic experience: We had a blast there! A must go visit destination!

Negative experience: Mixed feelings about this place. It is very small inside and they do not limit the number of tickets sold. Therefore you can't see the "weeki wachee mermaid show." The rude women even said if everyone would book online, which I did....then they could limit it. They have no problem telling you that you can't stand in front of the shark tank because it blocks the view of the person doing whatever it is they do for the mermaid show. I completely understand that, but don't sell so many tickets that half the people can't see the show then tell you that you have to move but you can set in the floor if you would like. I'm old and fat, but I set in the floor. If there had been a fire, I guess everyone would have died because my big ass doesn't move fast, and nobody there is big enough to move me.

Fantastic experience: I didn't know what to expect when I visited Mertailor's for their Christmas show. I've been to many Aquariums and I've often been disappointed. Not so with Mertailor's! For a small facility they provided an excellent experience. Most importantly, all of the tanks were sparkling clean and the sea life appeared healthy. The displays and labels were interesting and informative. The touch pools were well supervised and cleanliness was insisted upon. The mermaid show as very cute and the mermaids did a fine job of acting out a Holiday show. The experience was a joy regardless of age. Kids to Seniors all enjoyed the aquarium and the mermaids. I would certainly go again.

Positive experience: The mermaid show was fine.... great for small kids....the promo says show up a little before show time... just know the 11:00-12:30 pm slot....the show starts at 12:00 pm, not 11:00 am. You have an hour of waitilng time before the show. There is a small museum you can visit, and it is very clean and interesting, but small. You don't need an hour to visit it, more like :05-:10 minutes.

Fantastic experience: Staff were so friendly and aquarium awesome! It looked small when we first pulled up but amazing on the inside. Did the stingray encounter and was very cool. I was able to sit with them on a platform and pet and feed them - gentle creatures and very social. All the animals are rescues as well.

Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful experience at Mertailor's, our new Black Friday tradition! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! Loved the educational tanks and the mermaid show was delightful. Loved how the mermaids interacted with the children after the performance and posed for photos, so personal!

Fantastic experience: What a fun hidden gem. Was going to be in the area for the day and this popped up on my radar. Bought tickets a couple days early for myself and my daughter. Live mermaid show and you can pet and feed rays. Lot's of other cool stuff as well. ALL staff was friendly and welcoming. Seems like they love what they do.

Fantastic experience: MAGICAL! The staff was informative and friendly. They explained the animals background stories. The animal's showed their sassy personalities. The mermaid show was well worth the admission cost. Had I know you can also get in the tank I would have planned ahead for such fun! Fantastic experience: FOR THE MOMS: Just get the annual membership and you will be so thankful! This is our go-to spot to get out of the house with the baby. It has tons of educational material and just lots of animals. It’s not too chaotic, the staff are lovely, and the show gives off that little bit of magic ✨ We like to go in about 30 minutes before the show and do a first lap, then do the show and then I will circle a couple more times for good measure. The animals are always quite active and there is lots to point at and see. This is such a great attraction to have in our community. I can’t recommend this place enough. You can really tell Eric poured his heart into this. This place was built on passion and a dream and I love everything about it. (Watch Mer People on Netflix if you don’t know the story).

Fantastic experience: This was a delightful experience! We enjoyed learning about all the different marine life! We loved the care and particular attention to messaging about preserving our Florida springs! We had such a wonderful time watching a feeding of the nurse sharks! The mermaid who feed the sharks made it an extra special experience for us and we appreciated it so much! We definitely recommend this as an excellent way to learn about marine life when you are in the Crystal River, Homosassa and Weeki Wachee areas! ‍♀️✨

Fantastic experience: My best friend did the mer-person experience this morning, and I got to tag along as an observer. Every aspect of this operation is top notch. We enjoyed the behind-the-scenes tour with Candy, mermaid experience with Eric, and learning about all the creatures from Blue and the other staff. The aquarium is really well done, and Eric's passion shines through in all of it. We got all kinds of fun tidbits (especially about the sharks) and never felt like we were rushed or a bother to any of the staff. We cannot wait to come back and see how this continues to grow!

Fantastic experience: Wow! We showed up for a mermaid encounter (birthday gift for my daughter), and left completely mesmerized and in awe! Eric is truly a visionary, Chelsea is absolutely the best, and Blue was a pleasure to talk with/learn from ... honestly, everyone was welcoming. Also, everything was pristine! Highly recommend adding Mertailor's to your list of places to experience, there's fun to be had by all! We will be back ...

Fantastic experience: I only had time for a quick pitstop so I didn’t get to go and see the aquarium on this visit. Their store is amazing and Billie Jo was so incredibly informative. I am looking for a new tail for my daughter as she has worn out the first one she got here last year. Billie Jo gave me information on the website and how to purchase different tails. Also showed me the website and gave me information about how different fins propel. I am so excited. The shop has had some amazing beautiful updates since last I saw it great job!

Fantastic experience: Great place for a small family to enjoy marine-based aquariums and finish with a mermaid program. Great for small children. Audience available for photos and interaction with mermaids at end of show. Was not crowded. Tour aquariums at your own pace prior to show. Parking at door. Young children can participate in a complimentary aquatic scavenger hunt for a small prize. Admission price is about right for level of comparable to entertainment venue. Best method is to purchase on-line prior to visit. There are three shows available. Select which time works best for your group. Small gift shop as you enter/exit. Serves as a staging area before entering the aquatic section. Easy on/off from high-way. Aside from packaged, frozen treats available for purchase, there is no refreshment venue available. Great stopping point for those traveling to see Manatees or for a day-trip.

Fantastic experience: This aquarium is a hidden gem. We accidentally found it on Google maps while planning our trip to Crystal River. It is value for money, as the animals they have are very adorable and pretty active. The Mermaid show was great, haven’t seen such a show before. The mermaid suits are manufactured by themselves. The gift shop has also big variety of nice merchandise. All staff were very friendly and informative. Would definitely go there again.

Fantastic experience: Love this place! It's a hidden gem that you need to find! Had a great experience with some friends. I loved watching the mermaid interaction with the children through the glass. Be prepared to be educated about some of the interesting fish and birds they have. You can pet some stingrays and feed some baby sharks. It's inside so don't let the weather stop you! Enjoy!

Positive experience: First time visiting, and I was very impressed with what they had to offer for a cheap price. Both my kids are 11 years apart, and both had found animals and hands-on experiences they both enjoyed. staff was very informational about all the animals and were easy to talk to. we will definitely come back, heard they will be expanding soon. I'm looking forward to it next time we are down from the north.

Fantastic experience: We had a great visit. The staff is very friendly. Small Aquaruim, but clean and informative. They allow touch of Manta Rays and Starfish. I recommended paying the extra 5 dollars for feeding too, fun for the kids. The mermaid show was very entertaining as well. A great place to check out when in the area, an hour and half is all you need. I recommend buying tickets online as well before hand.

Fantastic experience: Love the place. Sets out in the country, no traffic to deal with, lots to see and lots of things to buy in their gift shop. My daughter and grand daughter have Mertailor Mermaid suits made from this store! They were so excited to visit here and watch their Mermaid show. The Aquarium is up close and personal!

Fantastic experience: I was pleasantly surprised by this aquarium. There was enough to see and do to keep you busy while waiting for the mermaid show. The place is spotless and the animals are well cared for. The thing that stands out to me is the staff. Each and every staff member I encountered were so friendly and passionate about what they do. The love and knowledge of the animals was incredible. What a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon. They limit the amount of people so it is not crowded at all. Our little gem right here in citrus county. This place is perfect for any age not just kids
