🗣️ Flint RiverQuarium: Reviews
Positive experience: Nice little aquarium with a few features not available. Staff was very friendly and the gift shop is not ridiculously expensive like some other aquariums I've been to.
Fantastic experience: First time, wife and I Loved it.
Fantastic experience: Took my daughter there today and she loved it...she was looking at all the animals in there and was taking pictures of all of them....she can't wait til she come back
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful time. I am from S GA but never knew about this 0ace til recently. Pretty large venue for S GA. Learned the Flint River covers a much longer stretch than gained. Showed the variations of fish at many junctures, right down to beautiful tropical colored fish. Learned new facts about catfish and turtles. Admission is reasonable. Family of 4 under $40. Convenient street parking.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility, all animals in good health
Fantastic experience: This is a beautiful aquarium that takes you through the many layers of the Flint River. A huge central tank replicates the river, and as you journey through the museum, you'll meet different wildlife and plants at each level. There are exotic species, but the primary focus is on native wildlife. There's also a small aviary with aquatic birds. The RiverQuarium offers a unique experience in a beautiful facility at a very reasonable price, and it's very close to Cheehaw Zoo (I believe they even offer a combo pass). With the cafes and restaurants nearby, this makes an excellent day trip for kids and adults alike.
Positive experience: A well maintained display of much of Georgia's aquatic life and much more. Helpful staff, too!
Positive experience: Very nice place to take the kids.
Negative experience: What happened to the gift shop??? So sad. There was a rat snake in the aviary waiting to eat the birds!!
Fantastic experience: Drove 3 hours to come here, and it was SO worth it! loved everything, the fishes, the three games, the cave, everything!!
Positive experience: Have gone once a year for the past 4 years and it's still the same. Still something cool to do with the kids.
Fantastic experience: Good value, interesting display on local waters. Relaxing & informative. No gnats in the outdoor aviary portion!
Negative experience: Needs some updating for sure. Gift shop didnt have much to choose from. My 1 1/2 yr old grandson loved it though.
Fantastic experience: I recently visited the Flint RiverQuarium at 101 Pine Ave, in Albany, GA. I parked near the Aquarium and entered a very beautiful building. I went to the counter and was pleasantly greeted and laid my entrance fee. The people stationed throughout the Aquarium were very nice and answered my questions on the exhibits. It's worth a visit to see native river environments.
Negative experience: It was a very underwhelming experience. They had fish, one alligator and a bunch of turtles. We ended up finishing the walk around and going to the Chehaw zoo. Spent the same money and a lot more animals to see.
Negative experience: Very disappointing experience, many of the exhibits closed, the ones that were open are filthy and have algae growing in them. The roof is leaking and none of the employees are interested in their jobs. My daughter fell asleep after the first exhibit because there wasn’t much else to see after that.
Fantastic experience: Good information about the ACF river basin and the Floridan aquifer. Native fish and reptiles on display.
Positive experience: The bluehole display was my favorite. Both the Aviary and Gator areas were disappointing. I am glad I went and would encourage you to go if you have a free hour or two.
Negative experience: This aquarium is horrible! I feel bad for the fish and animals!! The staff was not friendly. All the tanks where so dirty couldn't even see the fish. There was barely any water movement! Alge was tanking over alot of the tanks. Very dark in there! Need's a big update and a good cleaning!!
Fantastic experience: Small but great! Had a great time with the kids.
Negative experience: Good variety of animals, however, filthy aquariums. Water was extremely stagnant you could see particles in the water, not flowing around, just free floating. Recommend an overhaul of employees and find people who are actually interested in working and not just standing around on their phones all day. We had a field trip, pmw would have e thought the aquarium would have had a worker going around explaining everything to the kids, the teacher controls the groups, and parents there for support. Not here, it was all up the the teachers to handle all of it, which are a lot of responsibilities. I stand on the statement, overhaul the workers and hire people interested in animal welfare not just collecting a paycheck.
Fantastic experience: Great place in such a small town!! I worked at an AZA aquarium and was pretty impressed how clean and taken care of the exhibits were. Over exceeded my expectations!
Positive experience: It is cool to look through a window into the river to see the aquatic life. The riverquarium has several saltwater animals too. It is professionally designed, with ecology in the forefront. The bathrooms are a bit sketchy, but, otherwise, I absolutely recommend the Flint Riverquarium if you are in the area. It is good for children and adults.
Positive experience: I didn't expect much to be honest. But I actually enjoyed it for the most part. The price was very reasonable. I was just concerned that since they are about to add to it or renovate or something, that maybe they don't maintain it like they should.. some of the tanks were really dirty and had a lot of algae. That's not fair to the fish.
Fantastic experience: It’s great for all ages the albino alligator was amazing tons of amazing fish
Negative experience: This was our fifth visit and the we were disappointed. A number of the exhibits were closed or scaled down, but the cost to get in was still the same. On previous visits we spent a couple of hours enjoying the aquarium, on this visit we were done in 45 minutes. It is unfortunate that this aquarium is not able to recover from the Covid years. The staff is great !
Positive experience: Pretty nice just don't expect anything at the gift shop. It shouldn't even been opened
Fantastic experience: Loved visiting flint. I learned so much about what’s in the local rivers. Which you’d never know if you aren’t a fisherman. From fish to exotic birds. I’d come back anytime. Bethany was the highlight of my visit such a knowledgeable beautiful person. She brings light to the flint riverquarium
Negative experience: It is no longer "an attraction". It has gone downhill tremendously. Honesty, it should be free. I have visited numerous times and this one felt "sad". The mood was depressing instead of calming.
Fantastic experience: My kid visited this place last year for a field trip. She loved it so much; she wanted to come again for her birthday. It's not a large place, but it's plenty of fun for the kids. It's also nice that there's a park nearby and shops for snacks! 10/10 Affordable and fun.
Fantastic experience: It was pretty quiet. However, the building was clean and well taken care of. The gift shop wasn't stocked but the stuff there was reasonably priced.I went there on a field trip so I decided to take my kids. For the price of the Riverquarium it's worth the trip.
Positive experience: Nice, but it needs to be updated and some more exhibit set up. The gift shop was sad.
Positive experience: We were looking for something to do to kill some time before meeting family and decided to take the stroll through the riverquarium. We were greeted kindly at 415pm and told it was fine to walk through although they close doors at 5. We were about 3/4 way through when young staff members began circling us and letting us know they were ready to go. 10 min til, 5 min til, and again at 5pm. Kind to let us know but also annoying to be rushed. Some tanks were mislabeled and some were empty. It was beautiful and educational and peaceful in the end. Thanks yall.
Fantastic experience: Nice variety of fish.
Fantastic experience: Such a fun experience. It's a great way to get the kids out of the house for a couple of hours. It's not an all day experience since this is a smaller aquarium. We spent roughly hour and a half to go through the whole thing. We went pretty quickly so you can take more time if you want.
Fantastic experience: This was my third time going. I love it so I take different friends and family so they can love it too.
Positive experience: Great little aquarium but it could use some upkeep. Trash cans were full and the day had just begun. Also I feel like it was kinda dirty and a few things were broken.
Positive experience: Small hometown aquarium saw a few neat fish that I didn't know where in the southern US went on a Sunday morning. Almost had the place to ourselves
Fantastic experience: This place was awesome! Beautiful large exhibits and a play cave for the kids.
Fantastic experience: Bigger and nicer than I expected. My family really enjoyed our visit. The exhibits are clean and well cared for, and the space itself is clean and nicely modern. We were very impressed. It was almost a 2 hour drive for us, and I woukd say it was worth it.
Positive experience: A small aquarium which was expected but everything seemed a little dingy and all the interactive elements were turned off or broken. Seems like some upkeep need to be done. You can get through the aquarium in about an hour.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful small aquarium. Our 3 year old loved seeing all the different marine life. She loved the built in wall slide. She didn’t want to leave.
Fantastic experience: Great spot to acquaint oneself with local fish and water creatures. Lots to see in a seemingly small place. Very kid friendly
Positive experience: It's small but nice...not exceptional, but compared to major aquariums, at $8.50/adult admission, it wasn't bad. We cleared it in under an hour without rushing. If you go, there are a couple outdoor exhibits you might miss if you don't look for them. There were a couple small tortoises and a little area with a few birds near those. It's not a large, big city aquarium...it's a small but nice if you keep it in perspective.
Fantastic experience: Employees welcomed us with smiles and were ready to show us around. They were just as energetic as we were.
Fantastic experience: For 10$ a person this is a great value and a great aquarium. The building is very well designed, pretty to look at, easy to navigate. It is on the smallish size, but you certainly get what you pay for. The exhibits are very well designed. The layout is superb. You get gators and gator gar and big fish and little fish, it has a lot of education and fun activities for the kids. Worth the drive and the $$
Positive experience: Very affordable, decent exhibits considering location and it was clean and not crowded. My family will be getting a membership, the kids lived it. Oh, and the AC is cold, always a bonus.
Negative experience: Wanted to have my twins party here but whoever I’m speaking to named Jackie is so unwelcoming and doesn’t even try to respond promptly to help out. She gave me a time slot and said nothing was available for that day. I said that didn’t work I guess it’s not meant to be and instead of trying to see another date or let me know anything else they had she only said “bummer maybe next year” and stopped replying. I then asked her about two other dates when she should’ve just sent what’s available and she didn’t reply until I messaged three more times. She then responds with a snarky remark “even if it was available it’ll still be too late for a cake” so I decided to explain myself as to why it’s such a short notice since it seemed like I was bothering her, just letting her know a family member passed and do you think she gave a flying F? No she didn’t reply to that either. I’m good I wish the aquarium well but no thanks.
Positive experience: Such a great place but it breaks my heart to see how poorly the conditions of so many fish tanks were in. They were so dirty that it is a wonder any were still alive. Many attractions were broken and did not work at all. I have been coming here for many years and hate to see it going downhill so much.
Fantastic experience: It was a much better venue than I anticipated. My cousin had her 40th birthday party in the ballroom and it is very nice. The layout was perfect for everything and how she wanted the night to go, very spacious and accommodating.
Positive experience: Not a huge aquarium but great for young children. I recommend going early morning because it can be hot outside. Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: We stopped by here on a road trip and were impressed by the number of exhibits and animals. Our favorite part was the glass viewing area where there were huge sturgeon. The gift shop was surprisingly very small with very little selection which was a little dissapointing since we wanted a magnet, but everything else was great.
Fantastic experience: This was a pretty cool place. Amazing for kids or even if you go alone and take the time to read the signs and learn something. There is an alligator statue that scared me to the point I jumped and yelped
Positive experience: Great for younger kids. I don't think older kids would like it as much unless they were already really into fish, turtles, etc. Almost every bit of the center was wheelchair accessible, and there was an elevator where the only stairs were.
Positive experience: This is a nice place to visit. Our son loved climbing in the tunnel and looking at the fish. Albino gator was awesome. River aquarium in the middle is big and lots of fish to watch. Would recommend.
Positive experience: It was a nice quick visit. It was a shame there was some activities for the kids and some exhibits under work. Loved seeing the gators.
Fantastic experience: MUST VISIT! If you are anywhere near Albany come here. An impressive faculty on a cool riverfront park with coffee and ice cream shops around. Enjoyed watching the giant sturgeon through the floor to ceiling glass tank. (Scuba divers were cleaning it while we were there). All but a few exhibits were open and well kept. Come support this gem and keep them growing!
Positive experience: I think for a small city... This was a good experience. Though it is a bit dated. Overall my kiddos enjoyed themselves. We will go again when we visit Albany
Fantastic experience: This place had more than we expected! The museum has interactive exhibits for kids and clean and well-kept animal exhibits of all kinds! We loved the underwater views! This place wasn't busy at all while we were there and there is a huge playground next door as well as an ice cream shop right across the street and restaurants.
Positive experience: Was nice seeing the different river life. But most of the children's interactive activity was shut down, and it looks like it has been for a while. Still enjoyed my baby's reaction to the water life
Fantastic experience: Lovely little aquarium! Much bigger than what we thought it would be. Staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. As two adults who took their time and liked to read the signs, it took an hour. They had a wide variety of species, some we have never seen before! Well worth visiting. Be sure to use any discounts at the checkout (college or military).
Fantastic experience: Interesting site to visit. While it's winter and the outside exhibits are minimal, it is a pleasant surprise to find the riverquarium in southern GA. Make sure to see Moonsine, their albino alligator.
Fantastic experience: Very quaint place. Lots of cool animals to look at!
Negative experience: Not that much to see and a bit neglected esp. the enclosure for the birds. I was the ONLY visitor!
Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed the riverquarium. The underwater views are awesome
Fantastic experience: I love water and animals but I do wonder about the big turtle under water that looks like he’s sleeping but not moving? The enclosure looks small for him
Fantastic experience: Had a good time while I was there with my wife. Plenty of animals to see. There were not many people visiting that day. They have a cool area with a few birds. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
Positive experience: Took the wife so we could have something to do. The pricing is a good deal. Great for families.
Positive experience: Some of the fish are really beautiful. The snapping turtle looked YUGE through the glass. Most of the flat screen displays were not working but I’m told they’re being replaced. The diver with the sharks was the highlight. All in all worth seeing but maybe a little below my expectations.
Negative experience: The bird aviary was very disappointing. A couple years ago it was great but now it is pretty much empty with a single macaw in the corner. The gift shop barely had anything as well. Our kid wanted a souvenir but with half a dozen items to choose from in a big emtpy room he was very disappointed. They've really lost their touch over the years. The two staff members who checked us out(one for armbands at entrance, the other for a souvenir as we did pick one from the limited selection) seemed rather bothered to have to look away from their phones for a moment to assist us.
Negative experience: Awful it needs to be reported. Fish tank dirty not enough lighting. Not kept clean i felt bad for all the sea creatures. This aquarium was so very inhumane. Very disappointed so dirty it should be closed. Lack of attention. I would not advise anyone to go there. This is not a place to spend your time or money.
Positive experience: The kids love it the fish, turtles, gators and other outdoor critters.
Positive experience: I remember being in awe that a small town like Albany had an aquarium when I first moved to Georgia. Sadly I was disappointed when I took someone who had never been there for a visit. There are many displays that are empty. Many of the information screens do not work. The aviary barely has any birds in it. The dirt in and on displays is shameful. I am a nature lover and love to have this could be great learning environment in our town but I think the governing bodies that control the aquarium need to do more on upkeep.
Positive experience: Only four stars due to size and some things being not open. We had fun! Took about 20 minutes to walk through. We stopped for a minute to check out the huge fish at the big open window at bottom.
Positive experience: Great place locally to get out with the kids, the exhibits are great. The only thing I was disappointed in was about a quarter of the exhibits were not open/completed and I felt it shortened the time we could have spent there.
Positive experience: My family was just passing through Albany and stayed the night when I saw Flint RiverQuarium a street over from where we spent the night. It was a pretty awesome experience! We were one of the few families there and there were lots of cool and informative little infographs near each exhibit. Sadly there were a lot that were closed and the place seemed a bit rundown. However it was a great experience for a good price!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love the atmosphere. A lot was under way the last time we visited and now, there's an area for a tortoise and birds. We got to meet the caretakers who fed the birds and they were super friendly. Told us all about the birds, their origins and their names. My favorite was being told about their albino gator, her name is Moonshine haha. Lovely people, amazing experience.
Fantastic experience: This aquarium was better than expected and I would recommend checking it out. My favorite parts were the aligator turtle and the massive catfish. They have an area where you get a view of the deepest part of the aquarium looking up. It's a neat photo op place and great way to see everything.
Fantastic experience: Stopped here on day trip up from Valdosta. Parking was mess as there was something going on in downtown. Once we got parked we were surprised by how nice the aquarium was. Not a lot of exhibits but enough and it's affordable to get into. The sturgeon were cool. Been to a lot of aquariums and don't recall ever seeing sturgeon before.
Fantastic experience: My kids love coming here. Definitely looking forward to seeing some of the updates exhibits!
Thank you for your support of the Flint RiverQuarium! We are so glad to hear that you and your family enjoy visiting. We know you will be excited about the changes to come!
Positive experience: The blue hole is the best exhibit! There is a play tunnel for the kids to crawl through which gets them extra close to the fish. It was awesome. There is a birds exhibit as well. A lot of tanks were closed for maintenance though. Overall very nice.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time there. The animals were well taken care of.
Positive experience: My kids loved the aquarium, ages 4 and 7. It took us about 35-45 minutes to get through all exhibits, great stop when traveling through Albany, GA
Thank you for visiting. Please stop again next time you are passing through!
Fantastic experience: Very nice exhibit and as for the work being done we know that in long run it we will benefit from it so we would deduct any points from that LOL. I would note that the Hands-On touching tank wasn't open for some reason, and it is worrisome that might be gone for good, my son has never gotten to experience it so I hope it's return will be swift. The fish feeding show is great, the divers are very interactive and playful. My son loved it! Reed, the docent, was incredibly eloquent, knowledgeable, personable, and enjoyable. We all had a great time!
Thank you for visiting! We had to close the Touch Tank during COVID because the chemicals used for hand sanitizing would have killed the animals in the tank. We are re-opening the touch tank this month, though, with educators on hand to assist and explain. The tentative re-opening date is March 18 and the tank will likely be open on the weekends as we phase it back in and make sure that it can be adequately staffed. You are welcome to check with guest services to confirm before your next visit--229-639-2650. Also, thanks for recognizing Reed for his good work--he's a gem!
Positive experience: Great experience overall! The staff was very helpful and friendly. Our kids loved the kids tunnel/cave area they could explore on their own. There are some interactives that didn't work and a few empty viewing areas.
Thank you for visiting. We are currently working through a strategic plan that will address technology updates and viewing areas Hope you come back soon to check out the improvements!
Positive experience: Could be great! But too many digital exhibits not working. Signs missing or broken. So sad because there is lots of potential
We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. That is never something we like to hear! We are currently developing a strategic plan that will address your concerns and both update technology enhance and expand the exhibits and interpretive materials. We hope you will give us a second chance soon!
Fantastic experience: What a cute little river walk and Aquarium. Lots of information and close to everything else. We like the little bird area.
Thank you for visiting and for sharing your pics! Hope you come back soon!
Fantastic experience: A wonderful aquarium but visiting Peppa is a must! A great place to bring the family.
Thank you for visiting. Hope you come back soon!
Fantastic experience: Theres plenty to see here, there's interactive attractions as well. Along with having plenty of local and some non local fish and aquatic creatures, there was also a small bird exhibit with a stunning parrot and local birds
Positive experience: I went a few years ago it was a pretty cool aquarium a little small but for what they have it was pretty cool. Plus you have the River right behind it was a little bit of a trail.
Thank you for visiting. Great pics! Hope you come back soon!
Positive experience: This was really fun. We went here on a field trip and everyone was nice. Had interesting animals and facts. Then went and had lunch at the park down from the aquarium. Be careful with parking though it's busy around there.
Thank you for visiting. Great pics! In the future, check out our large parking lot behind the RiverAquarium. The lot can be entered either from Pine or Flint Avenue. Come back soon!
Fantastic experience: My 14 months old son, his mother, and myself visited the aquarium on Sunday September 25. It seemed as if it was a wonderful experience to him!! I really enjoyed the moment!! Looking forward to talking him back again.
So great to hear! Thank you for visiting. Hope you come back soon!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic freshwater aquarium including indoor playground for the kids & lots of kids interactive exhibits. The highlight was watching the diver feed the blue gill fish at 2 pm
We are so glad that you enjoyed your visit! Weather permitting, divers hand-feed the fish in the Blue Hole exhibit every Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. Hope you can come back soon!
Fantastic experience: This place was really cool! Definitely worth the price of admission! They have a wide variety of animals from all over North America! I would definitely recommend this place!
So glad you enjoyed your visit. Thanks for sharing the photos you took also. Come back soon!
Fantastic experience: The great place to enjoy a great view and take a best picture. The kids can have a great time play and have a lot of fun around. Because have two excellent parks around. Everything is clean and the location are perfect. You will have a lot of fun.
Couldn't have said it better ourselves! Thanks for visiting--come again soon!
Fantastic experience: This riverquarium is a great little stop for young ones to learn about the area around them! This place is clean, comfortable, and easy to navigate around! I highly recommend it for a little adventure with the kids and family!
We love to hear about families enjoying the Flint RiverQuarium! Hope to see your family again soon!
Fantastic experience: I had my 33 birthday event(red carpet rood-top) here and it was the perfect venue!
Woo!hoo! Happy Birthday and thanks for choosing the Flint RiverQuarium as your venue!
Fantastic experience: Had alot of fun. It was cool seeing all the different kinds of fish that Ga has to offer. Though for the smaller fish I make it easier to see them. It was dark, and you had to get right on the window for some to see.
Thank you for visiting the Flint RiverQuarium! Glad you enjoyed your visit--come again soon!
Positive experience: I rented the Flint RiverQuarium for my mom’s wedding and it was very nice. You definitely have to get creative if you’re having 100 people or more. The terrace was a nice spot for the ceremony as well. I knocked off 1-star for the communication. I paid for the entire venue and they wouldn’t let our guests tour the facilities. Stating their system had my rental payment entered incorrectly. It was embarrassing to have my guests be told they couldn’t access the exhibits. I was already busy so having to call during the wedding was extremely frustrating but I was able to get it cleared and the guests enjoyed the exhibits during the reception.
Thank you for choosing the Flint RiverQuarium for your special event. We are sorry for the miscommunication but glad that we could get it resolved.
Positive experience: Was not as expected. Several of the exhibits were "under maintenance/construction" and the staff was not very friendly. And there wasn't much staff there. We did enjoy the fish and turtles and was informational about water conservation but was not worth the price considering the gas it also cost to get here. Sadly disappointed!
We are sorry to hear that we did not live up to your expectations. We are currently undergoing some improvements and apologize for some of our exhibits being under maintenance/construction. We hope that you will visit us again when our upgrades are complete.
