Fantastic experience: Super nice and animals look happy and healthy and are kept in appropriate enclosures. Prices are great!

Negative experience: Bought a betta girl didn't even tell me what I needed for it so I described a few things that I thought I needed and asked her if that's what I needed she yeah that should work tell me they need to be in a 10 gallon tank when they only sell betta fish tanks for from 5 gallons to 8 gallons to 10 gallons I was really disappointed the beta died two days afterwards got it for my granddaughter for her 4th birthday really upset me

Fantastic experience: Just passing through and our 5 year old wanted to see what was inside. Firstly the employees were super friendly and kind! We loved that they took so much pride in caring for the pets and the store in general! Awesome place and so many cool little reptiles.

Negative experience: Do not go here, they will not sell you an animal without you buying a terrarium from them according to there specifications which are wrong to begin with. Saw there booth at two different reptile expos and they were selling animals and couldn't tell me what they were or what genes they had. Store front will try to give there opinion when you don't ask for it never mind whether your a first time exotic pet owner or you already have several exotic pets. Do not let these people who don't know what they are talking about in the first place bully you into doing anything or buying anything that they have no clear knowledge on. Go to Tales and Scales in derby instead much more professional staff and can help better then the clueless idiots at exotic pets.

Fantastic experience: Newest update; Since our second review they have made a few changes and all for the better. The store is still beautiful and the service is great. They listen to the customers and pay attention to the reviews. One of our favorite places to visit. Our first review was when the store first opened. It's still a beautiful set ip but the customer service is lacking. We were there for 42 minutes looking at Tarantulas before anyone asked if we needed help. They weren't busy. Finally the one person we saw working ended up helping us. It's not the first time we've experienced this. We have bought several Tarantulas from this location. If the other location had more of an assortment we would only go there. They have an amazing set up. The store is absolutely beautiful. The selection is great. Te employees are very helpful. We'll definitely be back.

Negative experience: Went in there to get a couple of feeders today for my snakes. And I asked a one of the works if I can get 2 hoppers and 1 medium mouse. The worker corrected me and side you mean 2 small mouse. I looked at him and told him no , just 2 hoppers and 1 medium mouse. He proceeded with to tell me “we have pinky, fuzzys , small, medium and large “. To the point were I had to call my husband, to make sure that I was saying was right. It took another 2 people to help me. Then I told them I need just hopper that is between 13-17 grams. They all looked at me like I was stupid, like I did not know I was talking about. So I told them get the smallest mouse that’s larger than a fuzzy , had to FaceTime my husband to make sure that is the size he wanted and needs. After I hung the phone up with my husband, the worker proceeded to tell me for reference it’s a small mouse, not a hopper. I’ve never had to argue with an employee on what my animals needed. I’ve never had a big hassle like this with the store in derby!

Fantastic experience: Super helpful employees, great place to take the kids

Negative experience: stood at the front for over 10mins with no acknowledgment from staff, while a line formed behind me. they lost 4 sales as we all left due to no acknowledgment. the girl on shift seems more busy talking to friends and what they wanted then to ring out the people in the front.

Fantastic experience: Exotic Pets is amazing. We are so lucky to have such a great hometown Exotic Pet Store where you can get all the feeders, decor, and exotic pets you need. I very rarely buy anything from anywhere else, I will go out of my way to get what I need from them. Everyone is so kind and knowledgeable and you can really tell the love and care that they have for the animals and this hobby. Ian helped me out the other day. He was polite, super friendly, answered every question that I had and made sure that I had everything I needed. You could really tell how much he cares for these animals and the customers that he serves. I will be looking for Ian next time I’m in!

Negative experience: I had a very poor experience with a certain person working at this establishment definitely was not a manager nor were they professional, I started asking about lighting for my new inclosure for my bearded dragon that I got from someone who wasn’t taking very good care of him, the inclosure he came with has no ventilation and the wood isn’t finished therefor it’s collecting bacteria in the wood and so we got this new inclosure with built in lighting and ventilation 40/16 gallon bigger than the other one, and she tried telling me that I should keep him in the old inclosure saying that the new one wouldn’t be big enough even though I did my research and they said that a 40/16 would be large enough. She then proceeded to highly suggest against anything I tried purchasing at the store regarding lighting. Very poor customer service and definitely a poor salesperson. She was rude the entire time and I will not be returning to this particular store to buy any future things for my animals. Cool place to look at lizards and exotic pets for sure but any questions regarding those animals will be controversial and not helpful.

Fantastic experience: definitely a great place to come too! a few years ago i went to exotic pets for the first time ever looking for mystery snails & bettas. (which i walked out with. the employee made sure i wasn’t putting both males together. which i wasn’t intending to, but definitely love the fact they said something !!) they definitely had a great variety of animals & have AMAZING care for all of them!

Fantastic experience: There's a wide variety of all the items needed to take care of your exotic pets ranging from enclosures, decor for their enclosures, heating and humidity needs, cleaning etc. They also have a wide selection of animals ranging from snakes, spiders, geckos, dragons and frogs etc. It's always very clean and the staff is friendly and always happy to help you.

Fantastic experience: Got back into the hobby they have a wide selection of fish this is my tank.

Positive experience: I buy all my feeders from exotic pets for all my 17 reptiles. I took my tegu in for a check up. The vet ran a fecal lab. It came back to her having a parisite from a rodent. Back in 2022 when I raised my own rodents, I asked about selling some of my feeders to exotic pets. Their reply was" We buy our feeds from a reputable breeder. Later I found out from a former employee their "Reputable breeder" raises the feeders in her backyard. Not anymore than I was doing, yet I had a warehouse I was breeding the rodents. Now, their reputable breeder has rodents with parasites.

Fantastic experience: They have a lot to take in. A big pond to greet you at the front door and plenty of aquariums with lizards, spiders. Snakes are on the other side. Great setup ideas. I just love this place.

Fantastic experience: Based on my different experiences here, the customer service has always been good. The interior is sometimes warm and kind of uncomfortable when walking around, but this hasn't been consistent. Would recommend and would return!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking into getting a reptile for their kid. We were there for almost 2 hours today (as my son is Autistic and had MANY questions). I let the staff know we had no intention of buying today, this was for us to look around and show my son the possibilities for when he gets a pet in a bit over a year. They still were incredibly helpful. One gal in particular (I feel so bad I can't recall her name) was so patient with my son. Let him hold a ball python and a bearded dragon. Let him touch a gecko. It gave my kid a real understanding of what he wants. His face lit up getting to hold the ball and bearded. Everyone was helpful though and very knowledgeable. All the tanks were beautiful and clean. 100% this is where we are going to go when we start buying supplies and ultimately buy him his first reptile. Thank you so much for such an amazing shopping experience even though we weren't getting anything today. Y'all rock. Plus... now my kid has fish off his radar of pets he wants because he got so interested in the reptiles. Thank goodness lol!

Fantastic experience: We went in yesterday just to browse the fish and as always there was a great selection kept in free flowing tanks. No bettas in Dixie cups here! Each area of the store we visited, an employee asked if we were finding that we needed in a super friendly manner. This place is way cooler than your average pet store. Better selection of aquarium fish thank youll find anywhere in Wichita as well! I'm a bug fan! 10/10!

Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff, a rewards program that actually gives you rewards without spending hundreds, decent prices, well kept critters and always have feeders on hand. I live a couple hours away but this is the place to come when you need anything herp or fish related.

Fantastic experience: I go here every two weeks to get live rats. Staff is always helpful and on top of things. The only place I go to for my snake and every time I have a question they have an answer. Especially love the reputation they added to their other location and my daughter loves coming in every time

Healthiest pets to purchase in Wichita. I have a couple of pets from them. Very large selection of healthy feeder bugs priced the lowest I’ve found in town. Let’s talk about their enclosures! They are absolutely the best I’ve found! Easy to assemble and price point is cheaper than others. I could keep going on and on for days about Exotic Pets-BOTH locations but it won’t even begin to do them justice so just go see for yourself! I promise they won’t disappoint you! Ps check out the reptarium at the east side location it’s beautiful!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been thinking about buying an axolotl but was unsure and wanted a professionals point of view on obtaining one and so when I called the store a gentleman named Dylan, answered every one of my concerning questions about having one, their food, their environment, the price on everything and how I can be a good axolotl mom and now I feel so much more confident on getting one and will be buying one later this month! I’m super excited and happy that I can always go back to the store and receive GREAT customer service!

Fantastic experience: The ultimate shop for exotic pet needs on the westside of Wichita. It’s a mesmerizing setup of live reptiles, fish, and so much more for sale. This fascinating shop offers everything needed to house and feed rare and unusual animals, with a dynamic and highly experienced staff to assist its customers. Ever since opening this location out west, it has been a game changer in convenience, saving me tons of travel time for feeders and supplies. I highly recommend this business to all of those in the lifestyle of alternative pet ownership or to anyone looking to begin a rewarding hobby with an extraordinary animal.

Negative experience: My husband & I love fish & spend big money on them whenever we go to Wichita to shop for fish...Unfortunately they have a crazy no fish on Wednesday rule regardless of circumstances. My husband works every day but Wednesday & we live over 2hrs from Wichita...I even called & attempted to explain this to them, to no avail. They will not accommodate us. So we called a few other stores & found 1 other store that was actually closed on Wednesday, however they came in to work on their day off & opened up the store in order to allow us to shop for fish in their store...In total we spent roughly $260-$270 just on fish, food/feeders & some new fish equipment/heaters/filters/& a couple small tanks for quarantine tanks...We get the whole "let the fish rest after being delivered" theory cuz we've been fish hobbyist's for over a decade so we understand how stress is not good for fish. So we get the theory from a fish hobbyist's point of view...That said, from a business standpoint, we're havin a hard time comprehending that move considering we didn't ask them, "we want to buy the fish you JUST received today & nothing else." We'd be happy & infact prefer to buy the fish that have been in the store for some time so they are less stressed if we purchased them as opposed to the recently delivered batch... If I were owner or manager in this store I'd keep the current policy except for, I'd have a separate small & private room JUST for the newly delivered fish to have a day or 2 to be acclimated & help lower their stress before being introduced to the store & it's customers. That way I could keep the entire store open during working hours so that customers like my husband & I can enjoy the same great experience all customers get to & mainly for the fact that I wouldn't be missing out on any potential to generate income....But I'm not the owner or manager so all I can do is offer a suggestion & continue spending our $ at other fish stores in Wichita unfortunately & continue to hope they can figure out a way that we can spend our money in their store someday & enjoy their fish inventory that we can only guess is very beautiful & impressive (since we have not even been able to see it in person as the room itself is even closed to any customer traffic) ....Extremely disappointed & saddened by this lunacy!

Positive experience: Very clean, very knowledgeable place to purchase pets. Staff are always working on helping. The only takeaway is the day we went the back area was very stuff. However I think cause it was full of people. Prices are fair too.

Negative experience: I would love to see & purchase fish at this store but for some odd reason they refuse to open their fish section on a Wednesday for out of towners like my wife & myself. I live about 2 hrs away from Wichita & the only day I have off from work is a Wednesday! I spend between $100-$200 on fish whenever I go to Wichita & apparently keeping their fish section closed on a Wednesday is more important than making a couple hundred bucks.... Extremely disappointed because their fish section looked amazing & I'm pretty sure they had the type of fish I have been looking for & can't seem to find ANYWHERE else so I definitely would be spending big $ there but they refuse to accommodate. Apparently their fish need Wednesdays off or they will all die or something...I don't get it cuz I look at all of my fish every Wednesday & they are all still alive... I guess my business will have to go elsewhere. Thankfully for them, Wichita is large enough of a market that fish stores are able to turn away good money & still survive as a business. Anywhere else I think that business model would leave a small business bankrupt.

Fantastic experience: We absolutely love their stores. We have bought many of our tarantulas from them and they have been great. All staff is knowledgeable and if it is not their area they know they find a staff member that knows about the reptile/amphibian you are asking about. Highly recommend them

Negative experience: (Review for discount at register, Must be 5 stars) I got an Asian Arrowana for her, people are super nice, and I got some free feeders! "See up date at bottom" Update: The Arrowana killed it self by full-sending into the glass, and they refused to refund me my money. This was 3 days after purchasing it. She had a 40 long rectangular tank and the tank ran for about a week or so and properly acclimated. Nothing on my end that would have caused stress. When we got it it was in a small tank but IDK. I also found out the it was illegal for them to have sold it to me in the first place after researching care tips. Arrowanas are endangered and need permits for certain states. !!!BE CAREFUL BUYING HERE!!!

Fantastic experience: First time in and everyone was absolutely amazing!! Candace went above and beyond getting us set up with our granddaughters first Crested Gecko!!! Highly recommend them!!

Negative experience: We purchased $77.29 worth of fish, plants and shrimp on the 28th of November. We started a new tank and treated with Seachem Prime and Seachem Stability, Prime on the first day and Stability for seven days before we bought the fish on the 28th. We put only the items we purchased from Exotic Pets on the 28th in the tank. On the 7th of December we noticed that some of the fish had developed white bumps which we assumed were ich and we lost one fish. We took pictures and a water sample in on the 7th. The employee confirmed it was Ich and recommended to keep treating with Stability due to very slight nitrate and nitrite levels, but that everything else on the water test looked fine. He also recommended that we not treat with Ich medicine because it would kill the biofilter and make the nitrate and nitrite in the water rise. It's now the 15th and all the fish are dead from ich. We went in and talked to the manager, who said there was nothing they could do because they have no "live guarantee" and that they had that posted on the registers and around the store, as well as on the receipt. It's worth noting that when we bought everything, the cashier asked if we wanted the receipt and we said no so they tossed it. I looked at the registers on the way out and didn't see it posted anywhere but I didn't ask her to point it out. Her reasoning for denying a refund or store credit was that they cannot account for how the fish were transported or handled once they leave. I pointed out that they fish were sold to us with Ich, and they have several tanks under quarantine right now in the store including the one that we some of our fish came out of. She said they know they have diseases but that's why they keep those under quarantine. It's obvious we were sold fish with Ich before they started showing symptoms and they infected and killed the rest of the fish we bought that day and the shrimp as well. We would have been better off getting fish at Petco or PetSmart rather than trying to support a local business that sells diseased fish and doesn't stand behind their product.

Fantastic experience: I was in there the other day and had the best experience. I am a little new at my salt water fish tank hobby and so I assume I looked a little lost. A very knowledgeable young associate named Bryton swooped in and helped me solve my algae issue and went to great lengths to make sure I felt comfortable with my solution. The staff at this location really seem to prioritize education and customer experience and it goes without saying that we appreciate their knowledge!

I've been going to this place for a month now, and being a new hobbiest, any question I have, they do their best to answer for me and are extremely cool about it. They do get really busy, but they make sure you get taken care of and the prices are decent and they have a great reward plan.

Positive experience: Very friendly and knowledgeable!! However after purchasing $500 worth of Tank and lights, not even 2 days later the $20 lightbulb went out. The blonde 'manager' was very very rude when i took the light back and explained it worked for o ne day. She rolled her eyes and was very rude and told me maybe my electric wasn't properly working at my house. Her tone and the look on her face while she was speaking to me makes want to never spend another dollar at this location! Been a customer for years and never experienced this type of rudeness out of any other employees. Maybe keep her in the back if she doesn't know how to be polite to customers who regularly spend money in the store. Very bad for business!!!

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and an amazing selection of beautiful fish and reptiles plus all the supplies you need. They made great recommendations of which plants and fish to go with to help me build a beautiful tank. They also carry the aquarium coop line.

Fantastic experience: I remember the first Exotic pets location on West Kellogg out by Goddard. Used to sell boas to the owner at the time. The new to me, Exotic pets is very clean and they have a lot to choose from. Prices are fair and reasonable. Staff is friendly. I'm sure I'll be back for something to go with this zoo of mine.

Fantastic experience: Nothing says keep coming to us like great staff. The management and employees are beyond amazing. They are kind, helpful, knowledgeable and go above and beyond for their customers and their animals. Absolutely some of my favorite people and definitely my favorite pet store.

Fantastic experience: Being a manager in customer service I tend to notice things. I've gone to both of their locations over the last 3 years. I've never had a bad experience here. From letting me hold a tarantula to helping me find things. Or answering the million questions I have. They want people to give the best care to their pets. Their prices are competitive. I tend to spend more for for customer service or the ease of not going to a box store. But their prices are the same, if not lower! If they sold dog food, and treats, I'd buy there. I like the place that much!

Fantastic experience: They have an amazing selection of fish. Every time I go, it's clean, and their animals look happy and healthy. I wanted to get a certain type of fish, but they were under quarantine. I am so glad they think of the animals first, not sales. I will be going here from now on.

Fantastic experience: I cant recommend this place enough, especially for fish needs. Go see Carter at Exotic Pets (west) if you have any fish questions or concerns. He literally stopped his closing routine and spoke to me like he had all the time in the world to ensure I understood the questions I went in with. I wont shop anywhere else!!

Negative experience: Me and my 3 children came into pet store on Thursday on the way to my nephews funeral. We picked out and held bearded dragon that was on sell 56.00. I asked what we needed to do because we didn't have cage with us and we were on our way to Kansas city, MO.. Nice young man went to the back spoke with Manager, came back out and said they would honor that price Sunday on my way back from funeral. After 3 days of excitement and leaving in time to make it to pet store before it closed, the manager on duty refused to honor price and refused to call the other manager or associate to prove my story. After 20 years of managing, I know it is not worth the 14.00 difference to keep customer happy. If this is the kind of customer service they provide buyer beware!! I can't believe they lose a customer over 14.00. I would have just paid the difference but now it is a principle of do right and honor your word. My kids had very disappointing ride home.

Negative experience: Unfortunately will begin taking our business back to Derby based on the state of the stores these days. We’ve noticed the smell and cleanliness deteriorating and the recent experience of attempting to buy 2 frogs but seeing one had fungus I asked to order and wait for a 2nd and they say no, a week later they upped price to $60 wouldn’t honor the price of the one I had attempted to purchase and after upping the $60 the frog was incredibly malnourished and suffering from calcium deficiency, it sat in a floor corner for 4 days then died. Calls to EP GMs for days leading up to death and no exception whatsoever to exchange my detioriating (now deceased) frog. Not a single thank you or apology, slap in the face after supporting them. Won’t be back and will not refer friends here any longer based on quality of their animals and their poor customer service policies. Maybe they should look at fixing what they have before a 3rd store

Fantastic experience: We went to several different exotic pet stores in the area. Of all of them, this place has a wonderful atmosphere, it's beautiful and from the scent alone you wouldn't know they had so many reptiles and fish inside. Go see the wonderful set ups they have!! The employees were a joy to talk to and knew the history of each animal I asked about and always had something educational to say about them. They were patient and attentive. I was in shopping for a bearded dragon. Upon finding the one I wanted, the employee made sure that I had an enclosure set upband were super interested in the pictures I had on it to make sure they would thrive.This attention to detail towards their customers is exactly what I love to see in those selling live animals. Thank you so much for my tiny dragon. 5/5 will only shop here for it!

Negative experience: Be careful buying frogs from this store. I have spent a ridiculous amount of money in this store buying cage after cage and 7 different reptiles and 3 amphibian from them and have no issues tell I got my pixie frog. I had it for 12 days and it died and management won’t do anything. At this point I am upset because I am not even asking for the $40 back I would just like for them to replace the frog because I have been wanting a pixie frog for a long time. So I will be taking my business somewhere else.

Positive experience: This place is absolutely amazing! You could spend hours in this beautiful store. The fish aquariums are immaculate, the fish are pretty and the prices are fair. Definitely going back!

Positive experience: Great location and tremendously helpful staff. Unfortunately I have to rate lower due to the supply issue of feeders. Ordering fairly accurately can be difficult, I get that, but 4 times in a row I’ve gone in and they are out of a through g type of feeders. Other than that nothing but good things to say

Positive experience: We started going biweekly- because derby is a drive. The feeders for the beardie are great. There’s two people there who never disappoint. One is a guy who is very knowledgeable and always willing to help. Most of the other staff just seem to be there for a paycheck or hate their job. I’m mixed emotioned about writing this. The place is clean- but we bought our first set of live mice- for our ball python. And out ball died shortly after. He had a vet check earlier about two weeks ago and was healthy. No signs of infection or other concerns. We’ve had the ball for 7 years. Just a little skeptical. We will continue to go here for our beardie for now.

Negative experience: Sold sick fish. Took them home put them in quarantine tank and immediately noticed under good lighting that they had ick. Took pictures to prove it then started them on treatment but they all died in the following few days. Asked for a refund or instore credit of some kind but was told fish get sick and die all the time so they wouldn't do anything about it. I was excided about the new store opening up but now I don't think I could trust them again since they wont back there animals up.

Fantastic experience: This is way more than a pet store, this is an EXPERIENCE. Every tank for fish, reptiles, amphibians, or insects is absolute perfection! Live planted and well thought out layouts for enclosures, healthy and happy animals, and a fantastic and helpful staff are what makes this store different from all the rest. I went in for a piece of wood for my Betta tank, and the staff were so helpful and willing to answer all my new Betta mom questions, on everything from planted tanks to algae eaters that are ok to co-habitate . I will definitely be making the 5 hour drive back!

Fantastic experience: I had a problem with algae in my fish tank. I called the store and talked to Carter. He was super friendly and helpful. We spoke again when I went to the store and he was able to provide me more information. My tank is crystal clear now. Fantastic Customer service!

Negative experience: We purchased a fresh killed rat for my daughter’s snake. When he brought out the box, it shook and there were some scratching sounds. He assured us that it wouldn’t be long before the rat would die. …45 minutes later… We arrive home, it’s still alive. We promptly feed it to our snake. The end. Oh, the employees were nice, and their selection of pets and products is amazing.

Fantastic experience: Such a cool place to shop! The staff and owner are very knowledgeable in all the critters. They helped me with feeding probs I was have with 2 of our baby Cumberland turtles. They told me what I could feed them and even gave me a free container of some kind of worms just to help see if the turtles would eat. Love this place!

Negative experience: Very disappointed with my purchase from this store. I was guaranteed that this $25 algae eater I bought was healthy as can be and wouldn't die. Well it did just a day after getting it. Sad. Waste of money. As a place that sells fish you need to have some sort of certain day policy where one can bring a fish back for exchange. That type of police you lack. It didn't clean not one ounce of algae in my tank when I was also told it will eat and keep away algae. Again, sad. As soon as it went in the tank it got under something stayed there and died. Went belly up. ‍♀️ $25 gone in a snap of a finger.

Fantastic experience: Damien was amazing! All staff was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely be back often. The shop was clean. The cages were beautiful done and maintained. You can tell the employees love each creature. I felt everything was priced accordingly. Highly recommended!!

Fantastic experience: O-M-G! I am visiting and this was on my top to-see list. Did not disappoint! If you are into reptile or fish, it's heaven. Every corner, every isle had something exciting. Fantastic experience: I am super excited that they have a store now. I order from their website for feeders and I am excited to visit the store. I will definitely make the 6 hour drive to see and hopefully one day they open a store in the DFW area lol. Their customer service goes beyond my expectations. They ALWAYS makes things right, even for the people who are less deserving. They also through in a few freebies every once in a while with online orders.

Negative experience: Education is key, and so is knowledge. Having a rude and disrespectful associate named Carter repeating himself to my kids “good luck with that,” doesn’t sit well when I was trying to educate my children. I have been an AVID breeder of many species of fish to include bettas and more for over 20 plus years! The store is quite amazing, a fresh look to the pet stores here in Wichita. A face of your business can either hurt it and grow it. If your employees can’t say something nice they shouldn’t say anything at all, (isn’t that what is still taught in school? ) especially if they aren’t Knowledgeable about the subject. Keep up the amazing work, and maybe give your dude, a book or two so he can learn a thing or two.
