🗣️ St. Augustine Aquarium: Reviews
Negative experience: It's the poorest aquarium I've ever seen, a waste of time and money.
Positive experience: We signed up ahead of time for the tour/snorkeling experience. The tours were running behind and there was a definite disconnect between management and the staff. Everyone was very nice, it was just very hot and we had to wait almost 30 minutes past our assigned appointment time. When we got yo the snorkeling, the director finally came out and took over and things seemed to smooth out. They do need to inspect their snorkeling equipment, my husband vest kept leaking. Overall its a fun activity for the price, but to be clear its not really an aquarium, its more like a semi immersive experience with specific sea life.
Negative experience: Disappointing. This "aquarium" is not what you expect. It's shabby little tourist trap with dirty algae infested tanks. Don't waste your money.
Positive experience: Great small aquarium for younger people. May, our guide did a great job catering to the children. The length of the tour was just right for the age group.
Negative experience: It was ok. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Cute gift shop. The few animals they did have seemed well cared for. However I've seen better enclosures in pet shops before. If my ticket hadn't been paid for already I probably wouldn't have bothered. Tour guide was very nice, however was not the best at annunciating, I found myself struggling to hear some key points of the tour. The walking trail needs tending to, there was a little bridge with broken wood planks and just a caution cone sat on top and many of the informational signs were faded by the sun.
Positive experience: I have been attending the Toddler Tuesdays and I’m so happy I found them. The activities are planned out to meet their developmental needs and the reasoning is shared with the parents. The staff cares about what they do and are excited to share. This opportunity is super exciting for me since it is a safe place for my daughter to socialize with other kids her age.
Fantastic experience: Small and intimate. The guide was very fun, his name was Nick.
Positive experience: Yesterday. We were charged $10 each for 2 tickets to feed the stingrays. The guide put the PVC pipe with food attached into water and let one kid hold it while a stingray ate. Then he let other kid hold it. This whole evolution took less than 2 minutes. Yikes! $20 to hold a PVC pipe in water strikes me as a rip off. Very disappointing. Rest of tour was informative.
Fantastic experience: My recent visit to the St. Augustine Aquarium offered an experience that was both educational and modestly entertaining, though with clear opportunities for enhancement in certain areas. The facility itself is relatively small compared to major metropolitan aquariums, and its layout reflects a more intimate, hands-on approach designed to engage visitors with close-up encounters rather than grand-scale exhibits. The grounds were clean and generally well-kept, with clear signage directing guests to various tanks and interactive stations, though some areas could benefit from additional shade or seating to accommodate visitors during warmer weather. The staff were welcoming and demonstrated genuine enthusiasm for sharing information about the marine life on display. Their willingness to answer questions and facilitate touch-tank interactions added a personal touch that younger visitors and families seemed to appreciate greatly. However, during peak hours, it was evident that additional staff coverage could help manage crowds more effectively, particularly around the more popular interactive exhibits such as the stingray touch pool and snorkeling lagoon. The variety of marine species on display, while not extensive, did include a pleasant mix of native and exotic fish, small sharks, and invertebrates. Informational placards provided helpful facts, although some displays would benefit from more detailed explanations or updated visuals to enhance educational value. The option to participate in snorkeling with fish and rays is a unique feature for an aquarium of this size and is likely to appeal to adventurous guests, though it does come at an additional cost which may not suit all budgets. In summary, the St. Augustine Aquarium delivers a family-friendly experience that combines elements of education, interactivity, and outdoor exploration in a more personal setting than larger aquariums typically offer. While the experience may not match the grandeur of larger aquatic centers, it holds charm and value for visitors interested in supporting local conservation efforts and enjoying a hands-on encounter with marine life. Those seeking a brief, engaging outing—particularly with children—will likely find it worthwhile, provided expectations are kept in line with the scale and scope of this smaller, community-focused attraction.
Positive experience: Small, but very informative tour.
Fantastic experience: I can't wait to come back with their news amenities. By grandkids had too much fun.
Negative experience: Would not recommend. Animal housing did not look clean, one tank had a leak, two large nurse sharks in an unknown size dirty enclosure. The tour guide was so scripted he forgot to be a human and have expression, just rolling through the motions.
Positive experience: Small but fun and interesting. Outdoor tanks so be prepared to sweat if going in the summer months.
Negative experience: 0/10 do not recommend! We purchased our tickets on sight 2 adults and 3 children and 4 shark feedings. The total was $85 but before our tour even started we had a family issue and needed to leave. After calling over and over we finally we able to get in contact with the owner and she said “absolutely no refunds” even though we DID NOT GET TO DO OUR TOUR! This place wasn’t accommodating at all and was not worth the money. Save your time and money and go to better place.
Wow How unfair! We spoke with you directly and you said that your baby was fussy but you got to see everything that you wanted and what you really wanted to see was the sharks which was the habitat you were at and you saw them, so you didn’t need a second day admission free which we offered AND we gave it to you anyway for a second day to come on a full tour. You got to see the habitats you got to see the sharks and you have been through the aquarium - our policy is no refunds on admission tickets. It is on our receipt, it is on the website, and it is on the wall when you come into the aquarium. So just because you didn’t get a full refund, you put up a very unfair rating.
Fantastic experience: Found a Groupon online allowing admission for my group of 4 at a discounted rate. Added a stingray feeding for the kids. Wasn't a huge aquarium but a small, educational stop to learn about some local wildlife. Alex provided us with a great tour and was very considerate of the smaller ones in our group, allowing them extra help and attention for the feeding of stingrays. Overall spent about an hour and had a great time.
So glad you enjoyed your visit! Come see us again for a holiday event or snorkel adventure!
Positive experience: Staff was very nice and knowledgeable. But the whole aquarium is run down. And the sharks need more space. It was very sad to see them in such a small tank.
Fantastic experience: Our visit to the St. Augustine Aquarium was one that I can highly recommend because May, our guide, made our experience both educational and interactive. May is phenomenally knowledgeable, but she also made the tour engaging by asking us questions, by carefully explaining information in an easy-to-understand manner, and by using humor to keep us attentive. This tour was one we thoroughly enjoyed while learning much more than I ever imagined about aquatic animals. Our one-hour visit gave us time to see even more of St. Augustine.
Thanks for your feedback! So glad you enjoyed your visit! Come back and snorkel with us!
Fantastic experience: I went this last weekend with my four year old daughter & my mom, we had an absolute blast! We also learned a ton, too! My 4 year old already wants to go back, she was able to ask questions, and also felt and fed the stingray & shark! It was a great way to spend a Saturday with family. There were also local vendors set up & a cool nature trail for my daughter to run and get her energy out. It’s outdoors with lots of coverings for shade & the aquarium was super clean and all the animals looked very healthy. Can’t wait to go back!
Fantastic experience: Live in Tampa and staying in St Augustine for a few days. Visited the aquarium today and found it small but charming. Our tour guide was May and she gave us a nice tour with lots of good information. She's very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our questions. It's good to patronize small businesses like the aquarium.
Fantastic experience: Great time with my nephews and neice.
Negative experience: Other than fish in a tank which technically makes it an aquarium. I don’t think I would call it one. In my opinion. If has a few fish and sharks and tanks it’s was a waste of time and money. They had kids snorkeling in the big fish pool. I wouldn’t call it a tank as it’s more an above ground pool. It as nurse sharks and Stingray in another pool. And a few reef fish and that’s about it. My tour guide couldn’t speak with his eyes open. And was not very knowledgeable. With all the Beautiful things this town has to offer this is not one of them, again in my opinion.
Fantastic experience: Went there my kid's field trip and had a blast. The staff were friendly and patient with the kids. They also made sure every kid got a chance to feed either a sting ray or shark.
Thanks so much for your feedback So glad you had a great experience on your child’s field trip! Hope you can join us again for snorkeling, events, summer camp or archery!
Negative experience: We went for their Easter egg hunt. Very very disappointing. Very poorly planned. They had 80 eggs for about 80 kids and did not say one egg per person. Many kids left extremely disappointed because they didn't find anything. Then they wanted everyone to wait 2 hours for a tour of exhibits instead of just letting people go look on their own. Poor execution, poor experience, no one was happy.
Negative experience: Took our 2 y/o grandson for the east egg hunt and tour. Workers were extremely rude and on the Easter hunt there was only 50 with about 50 kids. Sadly there were lots of children who didn’t even get eggs! Don’t recommend and will not do again! Don’t waste your money.
We had a larger than anticipated response and added 3 extra egg hunts back to back until 3 pm to ensure all got eggs and prizes Sorry if you missed that part Also anyone at hunt was welcome to return for a 2 nd day for a tour with receipt
Fantastic experience: Came here with my family on a homeschool field trip. The aquarium is definitely a little on the older side but the staff really made up for any shortcomings. They were all super friendly and knowledgeable. We did a 2 hour tour and it was great.
Fantastic experience: Lauren the guide was fantastic. It's awesome to see someone who really loves what they do and is excited to share it with everyone. It's definitely on the smaller side but we had a great time...even our picky child relented and had fun lolol!
Fantastic experience: Not very busy the day we visited..had an essentially private tour..our guide was knowledgeable, answered all our questions without hesitation..reasonably priced entry fee..some construction on site but site easily navigated. Fun morning!
Fantastic experience: Ellie and Nick were really great! It's a small, independently owned, outdoors place but they are passionate and knowledgeable about the fish/environment. It was educational and fun. My 2 little girls learned a lot and stayed engaged/interested. Nice place to pay a quick visit, learn, and contribute to their cause. Great job, guys!
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed your visit! Come see us again l
Fantastic experience: We had such an amazing tour. May was an excellent guide. She was very knowledgeable and patient with my son who has special needs. We got to feed the stingrays and pet the horseshoe crab and sea stars. I highly recommend stopping here if you have little ones who love sea creatures.
Fantastic experience: Yallllllllll when you make reservations ask for your guide to be MAY!!! She was our guide today and we had five adults and five children including a one year old and she was patient with the kids and answering every question no matter what. She made the experience amazing. She was very knowledgeable about everything she showed us and explained it in a way even the kids understand. May kept everyone interested and in a great mood. Definitely recommend going and having her as your guide
Thank you so much for that reply! We’re so glad you had such a great time. We hope you came back and visit again. We have holiday events like Easter Egg Hunts, mermaid meet and greets, craft and food truck events and much more!
Negative experience: We went to this today! Honestly it wasn't what we thought it would be like. Ofc pictures make something look totally different. I have a disabled son who is autistic it's a journey with overstimulation social interactions , sensory overload etc. The tour guy was rude and arrogant not really patient so we left cause then not only was my son overwhelmed but I was. This is something we normally do we get or babies out to explore and adventure cause my kiddos love being out in nature and I just feel it wasn't worth the time. Instead of someone educating us on just marine and aquatics. Some must be educated or maybe take a training on certain disabilities that are not always seen but unseen. As an advocate and my son's advocate I think there should probably be more sensory or even ideas for other individuals that have other needs. Others may need an interpreter?
Negative experience: It's not worth your time or money. I feel bad for them really My first and last visit. 3-23-25 I was supposed to go with my Great Nephew and Niece in-law and my Great, Great Nephew. Someone needs to help them though..the Aquarium . Who ever has it now needs to call someone for help.
Fantastic experience: The folks here love these animals. You can feel that any money spent goes right back towards conservation. The experience was great. Our 2 kids got up close and personal personal with multiple marine animals. No, this is not sea world. You will not see dolphins or orcas doing tricks. Your kids will learn about aquatic species and have the opportunity to get up close to nurse sharks and rays. Absolutely great.
Positive experience: A nice small aquarium with a friendly staff. The tour was very educational. We enjoyed!
Thanks so much for visiting and so glad you enjoyed your tour! Come back sometime and snorkel with us
Fantastic experience: We went as a random stop during our travel. It was totally worth it!!! Our guide Danny was great and very knowledgeable. It is a smaller attraction however, the smaller size meant we didn't fight crowds or ridiculous pricing. I highly recommend!!
Thank you so much for the feedback. We’re so glad you enjoyed it. Come back and snorkel with us sometime!
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful experience. My wife and I wanted to go and visit the area and we decided to give this a try. We ended up loving the experience, I paid to feed the shark and they weren’t really too active but they allowed me to feed the Big Stingray and that was a delight and fun experience. Nick was a amazing, funny and knowledgeable man.
Thanks for giving us a try! We invite you to come back and join us for snorkeling! Hope to see you son!
Positive experience: Little run down... Needs to be spruced up.. Bathrooms are beyond old and dirty .. buildings need to be painted ...
Fantastic experience: What a great experience! Nick was knowledgeable, friendly, and humorous. It is a small aquarium, but the guided tours are definitely worth it.
Oh so glad you enjoyed your experience! Thanks for the feed back an we hope you can visit again! Come check out the snorkel experience!!!
Negative experience: Drove 2 hours to come to this, arrived at the parking lot and didn’t even go in. Super small and looks cheap. We even asked a family who came out from there if It was good and they said no don’t waste your money. The tanks were green and barely nothing to see.
Upon checking you did not complete the tour. Missed interacting with some animals and part of the aquarium. This is an unfair review and pretty sure you did not only drive 2 hours for the aquarium. I can understand it may not be what you expected. It is clear on our website what we have. I will also report this to google including the gift shop issues
Fantastic experience: Great little aquarium! Nick was our tour guide, and he was fantastic! We brought our 3 year old, and he enjoyed it. Definitely recommend getting the feed and touch add-ons!
Wow so glad you enjoyed your visit! Come back and snorkel with us!
Fantastic experience: I definitely judged a book by its cover when I saw the reviews. The reviews suck!! This place is so nice and an intimate private place to go with your partner but it’s not big for like a huuuuge party ya know? This place is so nice! It’s calming because you don’t have overwhelming music playing 24/7. .The staff is so friendly and I can tell the staff are all close and they actually love the animals, they all have names. My favorite is Bruce the nurse shark and you can tell the animals trust them. The tanks are huge and they are mostly all rescued or injured. The price is a little bit overpriced but the money goes towards the animals so I think it’s worth it. The gift shop does need ac and the bathroom is a little run down probably just needs a remodel of something. They have a nature walk, a maze, snorkeling (I didn’t go but next time I come I will) Thank you to Sydney for being my tour guide you were really informative
Thanks for your support! We are working hard to educate people of the importance of the animals of the ocean! Come back and snorkel with us!
Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful time. We were in a small group for the guided the tour. The marine biologist gave us lots of information. He answered all of our questions and gave us lots of opportunities to ask additional questions. We did not feel rushed. We were able to truly enjoy ourselves. Do yourself a favor and buy the ticket to feel and touch the shark, it was fun. Very relaxed situation to see and feed a shark. After the tour was complete, we took a stroll through the nature trail. We even saw a snake sunning himself on some palm fronds. We heard lots of birds and we were the only ones on the path. We saw lots of signs with information about birds. This would be a perfect place to take someone with sensory issues. I felt very peaceful when we left.
Thanks so much for the feedback! We are glad you enjoyed your experience! Come see us again soon!
Fantastic experience: I was skeptical at first since it was small and outdoors but I found myself thoroughly enjoying the guided tour. They had a couple animals they take care of as they couldn't take care of themselves.
Thanks Kacey! So glad you enjoyed your tour! Come snorkel with us sometime!
Positive experience: We went for a school trip and thought it was ok, it’s not something I’d do again. It was a small aquarium but given what was available the presenters did a good job for the kids. The parking is extremely limited and the gift shop was small. There was a small area for lunch and at the time the food stand wasn’t open so I can’t review on anything that they may offer on that end. Seemed as though there was an additional exhibit “coming soon”. This is definitely not a place that you need a whole day for. A couple hours if that, is sufficient.
Positive experience: small, rustic facilities with very nice staff, some experts and some possibly casual volunteers. attended a seasonal after-hours event that was a great value and great for the kids. one small exhibit area with smaller tanks and species, a large round fish tank with viewing sides, and a divided low wall tank with viewing windows. convenient location, and a neat experience at a great value during the special event.
Positive experience: Not a whole lot of fish, but the guide is fantastic. Engaged, knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. This is an outdoor aquarium where you move from tank to tank on a guided tour and have the option to feed one of two rays. I would have liked some time at the end to go back through the tanks, but I came as part of a very small group and I feel like I got a very personal and enthusiastic tour.
Fantastic experience: We had a great time at the aquarium this morning. Nick was an excellent tour guide! He was very informative and made it fun for us and for my son. Feeding the fish is a fun experience and we’ll definitely be going back.
Thanks so much for your review! We are thrilled you and your son had such fun! We look forward to seeing you soon!
Fantastic experience: I thought it was great! :) my son got to feed a shark and our tour guide was really nice and we actually learned some pretty interesting facts. Also loved the activities they provided and the Christmas decorations were really cute!
So glad you enjoyed the visit! Come back and see us again soon!
Negative experience: Small aquarium outdoors. Nurse sharks and stingrays are easy to see and the snorkel tank is full of beautiful fish. We did not snorkel or zip line. Prices are high for the content. Guide was very knowledgeable.
Glad you enjoyed the sharks and stingrays. Hope you got the full tour!
Positive experience: I like the idea….but this place is not worth the money. My wife and twins and I went for a little over $50 and it was not really worth that. The two sharks were cool to see, the rays were cool to see but that was it. Maybe one day if they expand it could be worth it but not now.
Negative experience: Where do I begin. Very disappointing. While the staff where pleasant and friendly, very disappointed with the variety of fish and enclosures. Felt a bit misleading..was more like a limited local petting zoo for injured and abducted fish...$45 was too much for two people.
Well ok, we don't have any injured or abducted fish. We have been able to rehab injured fish that have been brought to us for saving. All animals are intended to teach Conservation through Education and why they are important in the ocean. Hope that was conveyed in your tour.
Negative experience: Visited 10-16-24. No comparison to major aquariums. This guided tour was outside viewing two large pool enclosures with various types of fish, one shark, and a few stingrays. The guide was knowledgeable and made the encounter interesting but not enough to justify the admission price.
Ok, we don't try to compare to large aquariums or pretend we are one. The goal is to educate people on the importance of Conservation through Education and why sharks, for example, are critical to the ocean. Thanks for giving us a try
Negative experience: This place is horrible. It’s nothing but a few small fish tanks that you would put in your own home and a 2 medium size pools. Everything was dirty, especially the water in the tanks. 2 sharks living in 3 feet of water that don’t move. It’s a joke and horrible living conditions for the aquatic life.
It doesn’t sound like you went on a full tour or got the educational experience of these animals. The habitats upfront are small because they are small animals Like invertebrates such as starfish Or small animals like seahorses. The 80,000 gallon habitat with fish from 1 to 2 feet or larger and cownose stingrays has 80,000 gallons of water and is 50 feet in diameter able to accommodate 12 snorkelers. The sharks don’t always move because they are nurse sharks, and not an active species of shark, but definitely have lots of interaction As well as feedings ,touchings and shark painting interactions. We invite you back for a second look and we’d be happy to do a complementary feeding interaction
Fantastic experience: Our family of 5 did the Snorkel Adventure and it was GREAT! While my husband and I have been snorkeling before, my kids had not and this was the best first experience they could have possibly had. They had the opportunity to see a lot of variety of fish up close and personal in a space that felt very safe. They had an opportunity to ease into the underwater breathing/masks and did great once they got the hang of it. This was a unanimous hit for our kiddos – 15, 11 & 9. I'd highly suggest it for any family looking for an afternoon activity! The only thing I'd change was that I would have taken photos to share. If they'd had a photographer available, I likely would have purchased a photo package.
Wow so glad you had a great experience! Hope you can join us again as we add more experiences Or check out our holiday events
Fantastic experience: Very neat aquarium! It’s not like a typical aquarium, where you walk inside a huge building and then look at tanks. It’s an outdoor facility and you have to walk through it with a tour guide. Our guide Sydney was wonderful. Our girls loved it! We got to feed the nurse sharks for an extra $5.
So glad you enjoyed your visit! Come see us again. Maybe snorkel with us!
Fantastic experience: What a great experience! Unlike a big aquarium, we had a small group of people with a guide giving us a personal tour with details and info, answering any and all questions. We were able to see some amazing sea animals up close and even touch some. Loved it!
THANK YOU So glad you enjoyed your visit! Hope you will come back and see us again!
Positive experience: This is definitely a cool spot. Small but fun the nurse shark feeding was so fun and affordable. Took one star off because the guy doing our guide was great however with small kids they don't want to hear alot of talking they need maybe just a little more hands on things .
Fantastic experience: Sidney and Felix were the best your guides ever we did a shark feeding and snorkelling adventure. Highly recommend for a family or couples trip.
Fantastic experience: Great local aquarium. You get a great personal experience as opposed to the larger aquariums. Nick was our guide and he was awesome. You can tell he really loves what he does. We were able to witness a hermit crab change his shell! Very cool experience.
Fantastic experience: The snorkel adventure is amazing! When booking be sure to read what it includes. In the tank there is 2 stingrays and coral fish. They have general admission attached to the tickets! So much fun! Took about 2 hours for the entire experience!
Wow so glad you enjoyed the experience! Thanks for sharing and we hope to see you again!
Fantastic experience: If you come visit this place, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE wear pink!!! It is one of their stingray's favorite color. The way he takes a liking to you and constantly comes swimming towards you is so adorable!
Fantastic experience: This aquarium only does guided tours. It is all outside, but the exhibits are covered and there is plenty of shade for everyone on the tour. It is much more intimate than a larger aquarium and the tour takes about an hour. Sydney was our tour guide and she was AWESOME. She took time to make sure everyone got to experience each exhibit and answered every question we could think of. It is very educational and you will learn all sorts of things to amaze your friends with. They have a large tank that you can go snorkeling in which we really wanted to do, but couldn't because the tank was undergoing some maintenance. You can feed nurse sharks, Bruce was the best, and you can pet them. I would recommend this to anyone who likes marine life. The animals are well kept and you can tell the folks that work there have a passion for it.
Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience at the aquarium. The first time I was there I did the tour but did not have time to snorkel because I had another appointment to go parasailing. They charged me a discounted rate and allowed me to come back the next week. Snorkeling in their controlled environment with their beautiful fish was nothing but amazing! The staff are so knowledgeable about all the fish and so friendly. They were very good with the kids. I was blessed to be one of the only snorkelers in the water. That made it even better. I feel bad I cannot remember my guided name, but he was so polite and very helpful. Try this experience if you are new to snorkeling. Or even experienced like myself. It's a lot of fun.
Negative experience: It was ok. I would not suggest it on a rainy day or a hot day. It was outdoors The adults liked it more then the kids. 48$ I would not pay that much for this experience. At least wait til you get a deal for $24. The sharks where great if you pay extra you can pet and feed them!
Negative experience: I would rather have given them a flat out zero...because not only did we not get in after we paid through group on the lady was very rude while telling my wife that we couldn't (as public) even be thought about until 3 pm due to camp tours. There is a better way to tell people than that.
Positive experience: I took my 4 year old here and we saw some fish and learned a bit about a few sea creatures. They had two sharks that didn't wanna eat while we were there, evidently they like sleeping, but for an extra $5 each you can either pet or feed the sharks. I would suggest going in the morning, we went at 3pm and they refused to move much at all. Hahaha, also they were in a very shallow tank which was weird. It wasn't expensive otherwise I would have been a bit more disappointed. Next time I go I will do the snorkel tour as you get to go into the bigger fish tank to see more (not the same tank as the sharks). You can not just walk around yourself, must join a tour and have a time slot. They also have a mermaid show which we missed I had no idea they had! Some information about times are under "about the aquarium " on their website for the walking and the snorkel tours.
Negative experience: There are a few random tanks where they have 1 lionfish, 3 seahorses, 2 sharks, a few stingrays, and a handful of sea stars, horseshoe crabs and urchins. The young man who did our tour spoke like he was bored and reaching to get his words out (hardly understood him). We had a tour pass and the girl inside did not let us know we'd need a "red ticket" to feed the rays, sharks etc. The young man said we'd need one to feed them, did not clarify we could not touch the sharks, rays and could only touch the sea star and the horseshoe crab. When we did touch the shark, he asked if we had the red ticket to which I said I didn't know (if it came with the tour pass) he then shrugged and said "whatever". This was not an aquarium as what comes to mind with the term aquarium. It was a massive disappointment and if I'd had to pay to go in, I would've left. I would not recommend to anyone at any time.
Not sure what a tortuous tour pass is. Tour pass is a ticket we accept. As stated on the website toy will touch starfish & horseshoe crabs. All other interactions are an additional charge. This is on a printed board above the admission desk. our website and on additional signage. If you know your guides name please share and we can address speaking slower for better understanding.
Positive experience: Pictures look better than the place. Only a couple of attractions, to see the fish in the tank you had to compete with other groups, windows might need to be cleaning. For the kids was ok. Feeding the shark and touching sounded exciting, took forever for the shark to come around, and then they give the child a pair of kitchen tongs with a piece of fish, didn't feel safe for a 6 years old. The touching was touch and go, 1 second. $10 for the experience plus the admission was kind of too much. The trail was ok.
Positive experience: 1 hour guided tour was the only option. Not good for a baby who can’t handle an hour of minimal entertainment. Better for school age kids and adults with lots of time on their hands.
Guided tours are the safe way to interact with our animals. Habitats are open air and not closed off for that reason We have Toddler Tuesdays from 8:30-9:30 non guided to accommodate babies and toddlers with special themes for them.
Fantastic experience: If you’re looking for an educational and affordable adventure for the little ones come check out the aquarium. They offer guided tours at no extra charge and have a variety of aquatic life. If you arrive at the correct times you even get the chance for some animal encounters.
Fantastic experience: Excellent visit today, great tour guide Dan that was very knowledgeable and patient with our kids. Everyone was friendly from the start. Kind of on the small side but great for a quick stop, our kids loved it.
Negative experience: Me and my grandma came here to when we were on our family trip to st. Augustine. We looked through the tour books in our Airbnb and saw this place. We thought wow that looked exciting especially for scubba diving with strong rays. But when we got there we couldn’t barely tell it was there, barely any road sighs and no advertisement for it on the roads, but non the less we gave it a shot, it looked like a little whole in the wall which is what it turned out to be, your greeted with a confusing entrance and a whole shelter near the entrance just filled with their over stock of junk, a real eye sore. But we went in and the guy at the desk was super friendsly but was definitely trying to sell us on one thing after another, the gift shop area is just full on nicnac stuff nothing exciting and definitely over priced, we played 50 dollars just to snorkel, and plus how ever more to feed the fish and a Tour was almost 80+ dollars, for an above ground pool full of 10 fish!! Not to mention the cramped small pool for TWO 6-10 foot nurse sharks! After the tour we were supposed to snorkel but we decided that it wouldn’t be worth it at all! We went back to the desk to get our refund on the snorkeling and the fish feeding and they could only refund the snorkeling. Even through the whole time we are trying to get a refund the guy at the desk is haggling us on about how it’s “so cool” and “really you should give it a try we’ve never had any complaints”. Most of these reviews would say other wise. 2/10 don’t recommend.
Positive experience: It was okay very small. Not what you expect, but it is an open-air aquarium, so if kids expect something they saw before, this would be dud for them to see. I don't recommend of you have been to an actual aquarium.
Negative experience: Years ago, we visited this aquarium and thought it had great potential. Unfortunately, this visit showed this to be a sad shell of what it was years ago. First, we had to wait 30 minutes for our “tour”. Although he provided information on the different sea creatures, our tour guide appeared disinterested and irritated throughout the tour. There was one very small window to view the fish. It was a very disappointing trip. If you want the see a nice little aquarium, make the drive to Daytona Beach like we did today. It was only about $10 more, but well worth the price.
Fantastic experience: Went to the outside aquarium. My brother snorkeled and had a blast. The staff was great.
Positive experience: The Newport Aquarium in KY is MUCH better. I know Fla has these animals in the wild, but this Aquarium is small and underwhelming for the admission price. If not for the knowledgable tour guides, I would have rated it lower.
Fantastic experience: Great place for learning experience and their birthday packages here are well priced. It's small but we still had a lot to see with your own personal guide takes you through the park . You can touch n feed sting ray and sharks experience if you dare.
Fantastic experience: Very cool you get to feed the sharks and the stingrays. You also can pet them.
Fantastic experience: Super awesome experience. The shark scared me almost to death, I was leaning over when he came up to feed and made that popping noise! Lol My favorite was the fish! Picture attached...
Fantastic experience: The aquarium from the outside looks like nothing to behold. Upon entering to buy tickets, the lady at the counter was kind and informative. They have military discount tickets. We had to wait about 10 minutes for our guided tour to begin. Our guide Nick was AWESOME!!!! He knew the answers to all of our questions & he knew pretty much everything about the animals they had there at the aquarium. We fed and pet the sharks and the rays. Such a cool experience. There’s a little walking trail at the end of the tour, very cute area. Bathrooms were meh but enough for the aquarium. Altogether the tour was about an hour and a half or so. So worth the money. So worth the visit. Thanks nick and thanks to the st. Augustine aquarium! Keep doing your thing!
Well, thank you so much for that. Awesome feedback! We're so glad you enjoyed your visit and hope you Come back and visit us again as we're looking to gradually expand. Maybe join us for snorkeling! Again, thanks for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Not big as Chicago’s, but got good information what we need for our children. You can get tour guides for small groups. Nick did great job for us, he has been great and has a lot knowledge.
Fantastic experience: We swam with the Dolphins here 17 years ago when I was home on leave from Iraq. We decided to stop by on the way to a cruise and just reminisce. A lot has changed but the fact that they are studying and rehabilitating a variety of amazing sea life is awesome.
Negative experience: Do not recommend . You can go to the river for this kind of experience. Done in tours. Our tour guide, Veronica, completely ignored me while at the “touch tank” for the starfish when I was standing right next to her. Paid to feed and touch the shark; however, the shark was sleeping, in a very small tank. You do not get a refund, only gift store credit which the items are so cheap and overpriced. Also, completely outdoors.
Positive experience: When I pulled up I thought I’d been scammed. The outside of the place looks cobbled together and run down. There’s a trailer in which you get your tickets and buy little souvenirs then a tour guide takes you outside. The fish are in out door tanks and it costs extra if you want to feed them and extra on top of that to pet them. The tour guide was knowledgeable and the fish were absolutely stunning! Don’t know that I’d go back but it was a nice way to spend a little time with the family.
Fantastic experience: Our tour guide was Dalton, and they were very informed and personable. They really made our experience fun! I also enjoyed the different activities they had for my child and her cousins. Including an underwater themed maze and their sand sifting Pirate Treasure Hunt. Tim, the associate that greeted us and sold us our tickets, was very kind and was very passionate about the facility. I will be returning soon to try their snorkeling!
Thanks for the feedback! We’re so excited and glad that you enjoyed your visit to the aquarium. If you’re local, you could consider having an annual pass and we would be happy to share the snorkel adventure with you can’t wait for your return.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed our family trip to the aquarium. While they don't have a lot of aquatic animals, their tours are incredibly informative. Sydney is a rock star tour guide; she could easily be working at a much bigger place due to her delivery, knowledge, and enthusiasm.
Positive experience: It is small, but the quality of the team is great. They provide a great atmosphere and you can tell they enjoy what they do. Sydnie was our guide and she was awesome. We learned a lot more than we would have thought. Super knowledgeable group that runs the place.
Fantastic experience: I'm from NYC and we have an amazing world class aquarium. But what SA aquarium lacks in quantity if makes up for in Quality. The staff has knowledge and heart. I can't recommend this place enough!!!
Positive experience: This was an outside aquarium. It was an interesting experience. Our tour guide was very sweet and knowledgeable of all the sea creatures we met. My daughter wanted to feed and pet a shark. It is about a 30 to 45 minute visit.
Fantastic experience: We chose to drive down to surprise our ocean loving 11 year old for his birthday. We were not disappointed. Dan was an excellent guide and we all enjoyed it and learned some too. Touching and feeding the nurse sharks was definitely a favorite and my other children are already saying they want to do this for their birthdays too! Highly recommend if you're interested in sea animals.
Positive experience: Great place to bring the kids. Very knowledgeable tour guides. They have nurse sharks, stingrays and othe pretty fish in their large tank. You can snorkel with the fish.
Positive experience: A for effort, but honestly have seen more variety of fish at pet stores. Should be named "Florida Native Saltwater Fish Tour". Had to wait 20-25 minutes before the guided tour started. The tour guide must have been in training, some of the information they gave was incorrect. The first part of the tour, a tent, not a permanent structure, had 4 rather small aquariums in it (for an "aquarium attraction"). First tank had large fish in a cramped aquarium, while 3 small Starfish and some no-show horseshoe crabs were housed in the more impressive larger rounded tank. The second part of the tour had the diving reef aquarium with the larger fish in it. It was more of what I expected all of the habitats to look like, and would have greatly improved the experience if that were the case. The fish in this tank seemed healthy and very active, and interactive. The tour guide seemed to know more about this tank than the rest of the tour animals. This was the best part of the tour. The shark and ray tank could have been better with more lighting as you could barely make out the inhabitants in this tank. Overall, unique experience we will probably not go to again, not because it was bad, but it just failed to impress on execution. Staff was friendly, everything was clean. Yes there was algae in some of the tanks, but it's Florida, algae grows in rainwater there. You can't keep algae from growing in healthy outdoor ponds.
Fantastic experience: My Moma and I came in on a mother/daughter date and it was awesome! It may not be a huge place but it’s full of wonderful creatures. I even got to pet Ava feed a nurse shark. Miss Dalton was our guide and she was fabulous. I will DEFINITELY be back
Fantastic experience: We chose to visit St Augustine over Orlando for the night of lights and snorkeling experience at this aquarium. When we entered the aquarium, the facility is indeed very underwhelming with only a few displays. However, I am glad we continued with the guided tour and snorkeling. The guided tour was very informative - our guide, Dan, kept our teenager and 9 year old fully engaged. We all enjoyed snorkeling too. The water was at a comfortable temperature at a depth of 5 feet. We were provided with wet suits, snorkeling gear and food to attract fish. We are not great swimmers, so it was good to snorkel for the first time in a controlled environment. The facility was not crowded, making it a very personalized experience as well. This is not SeaWorld - not even close, but a small business that I am glad we were able to support.
Negative experience: Dan was great and so was the other lady in the park. But I would not waste your money here. There are just a few tanks. And there isn’t much hands on to do. Also their week day hours are 9-4. We saw the hours posted as 9-5 on the website and Facebook page. So we drove 6 hours to go here. Getting in at 3:15 only to be told all tours had gone for the day. Needless to say we weren’t happy. After talking to the staff, and explaining and showing their wrong hours they allowed us to come in for a shorter tour. I’m thankful we were able to go but if I were to do it again I would not waste my time and money.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time taking the kids to the aquarium. Very knowledgeable tour. I am planning to take the scouts here, too. There is a nature trail in the back with great information about the local wildlife. The sharks weren't feeding when we went, but the Ray's were, and that was fun for my 6 year old.
So glad you had a great visit We have different programs available for scouts! All about sharks, all about corals, vertebrates vs invertebrates Snorkeling adventure and more. Also the regular educational tour with shark tooth dig! Let us know if you have any questions
Positive experience: We didn't buy our tickets in advance buy our visit we hadn't needed to. These days, though, can never be wrong, doing so if possible. May be a small place but was still worth the visit as children love the aquarium and has some interesting display.
Thanks for visiting Glad you enjoyed your visit Hope you come back as we grow or join us for Nights of Lights Under the Sea
Fantastic experience: My family and I had a great time visiting here. As in other reviews I will say the place is on the smaller side, but the staff are so friendly and helpful. We learned a lot about the different species they have and our children were able to feed and touch the sharks. The animals seemed to be well taken care of. We came on a colder day and still had a good time. The nature walk was pretty and we got some beautiful pictures.
Fantastic experience: Small aquarium where you can swim with the fish.. educational tour, meet and greet with feeding sharks or stingrays.. The stingrays feeding is like feeding a dog,.. so cute..
Positive experience: This place was borderline-awesome!! The guide, Daniel seems very informative and knowledgeable when it comes to sea creatures.... I took my 16 month old twins. It really wasn't much for them but the older kids in my family enjoyed it. The whole tour took no longer than 20 minutes which was perfect. I plan to return once my twins are older.
