🗣️ Medicine Park Aquarium and Natural Sciences Center: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Awesome abundance of fish and a great array of displays. Also, their outside nature walk with multiple exhibits including turtles, coyotes, mountain lions, butterflies, and otters was amazing! Definitely a must for a family if in the area!
Fantastic experience: The aquarium is great but the outside animal exhibits are just as fantastic. There is a lot more to do than you may realize we spent well over 2 hours exploring and enjoying the animals. We were lucky enough to run into who I would have to describe as the grandmaster of the outdoor animals. He was awesome and made the experience even better for all of us. Hour 1 and 5-year-old both had a fantastic time start to finish.
Fantastic experience: It's a small but interesting aquarium and zoo. A very nice place. We enjoyed feeding the turtles.
Fantastic experience: Went here years ago and it was amazing
Fantastic experience: Loved it beautiful views a lot to do with the Family the staff was lovely super friendly. 10/10 ❤️
Fantastic experience: It's not a big place but it's a good place , we love all the stuff they have added over the years my son's favorite was feeding the quails , animal food is only 1$ a cup at all of them and his favorite part . I've loved the paddlefish best , and one of them was swimming around with his mouth wide open, trying to catch some food.
Negative experience: It was okay. They had a good variety of fish and turtles. Only 1 coyote. It was upsetting to pay $50 for our family who mainly went to see the otters and by the time we got to them they were all put up and didn't get to see them.
Fantastic experience: This place was AWESOME! Literally the ONLY complaint is that we visited during summertime and it can get hot QUICK with the outside activities and displays. Other than that it was awesome. Oddly enough it's the longest we've ever stayed at an aquarium before. Definitely worth the trip down!
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience. Supper friendly staff and very interesting animals! The one thing that did make me a lottle sad is that there were a few little quail with damaged legs... I'm not sure what could've been done about that, but it made my heart hurt a little. Otherwise! Amazing experience. And the quail exhibit was my absolute favorite.
Fantastic experience: Lots of cool things to see friendly staff at a great price
Fantastic experience: Great staff and excellent exhibits. We loved the quail and the turtles.
Fantastic experience: My 2-year-old loves this place. It keeps her entertained for hours! They also have a trail outside that leads to snakes, butterflies, guineas, and much more! It is also affordable.
Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful time exploring this aquarium! If you're expecting a zoo with exotic animals from far away places, you will be disappointed. If you want to learn about the many animals that live in Oklahoma, plus a couple of species from around the world, you'll love it. The butterfly garden was neat, and I loved watching the butterflies drink the sugar water from my sponge stick. The otter was super playful and kept picking up rocks to "show" me. Feeding the turtles was probably my favorite part; so fun! My only disappointment was that there were a LOT of young, noisy kids at opening time on a Saturday, and that took away from the experience. I'd recommend coming on a week day during the school year to avoid loud kids.
Fantastic experience: A great place for adults and children to visit! I was there last week and was very impressed with the entire facility and friendly staff. I’m sure Doug Kemper (a friend from Lawton High School), who was a visionary and designed this facility specifically for this area, is looking down with pride at the job Rainette Rowland and her team continue to do to make this a “must see” attraction!
Positive experience: Cool place, I learned a few things. The children that were there while we visited seemed to be enjoying the experience. It seemed to be a strange place for an aquarium, turned out good. Beautiful scenery, I would recommend a visit. There are other places in the area, historical, lakes, Scott Mountain (fantastic views) great photo opportunity. Fishing, scuba diving. Plan for 1-2 hours for the Aquarium, park down road has great places for picnicking.
Fantastic experience: Took my granddaughter and we had the best time!! What a treasure to have so close to home. We were just in time for an educational show. And we especially loved feeding the quail. It’s mating season and they were very active.
Fantastic experience: We visit this aquarium all the time- our toddler really enjoys it! The inside has a great array of local and exotic animals, and the outside has some awesome interactive exhibits and really knowledgeable staff. Strongly recommend going on a good-weather day so you can enjoy the full experience, especially feeding the quail and butterflies! Can’t say enough good things about this place.
Fantastic experience: Interesting assortment of fish, snakes, bobcat, river otters and other animsls
Fantastic experience: I had no idea I'd find the best aquarium I've ever visited in Oklahoma. It was so good, I went 2 days in a row. Of all the things to do in Lawton, this has to be at the top of your list. Highly recommended.
Positive experience: We were there Wednesday-Friday. Not much open. Beautiful scenery, you see, such as Scott Mountain and the Aquarium and Nature Center was interesting to visit Likewise, Holy City was a great place to see. A must-place to eat at is the Old Plantation in Medicine Park, ask for Trinity to serve you. I would have it rated higher if the shops were open.
Fantastic experience: First timer here, we took our 2yr old grandbaby to see the fish. He had a great time and was obsessed with the octopus. He was fine until we got to the giant blue catfish that have almost fake looking eyes. One of them locked eyes with him and he got scared, and after that he was done haha! We went outside to see the other animals: One otter, one coyote. They need others in their habitat, y'all. They get lonely. There were two bobcats, but only managed to see one. I got no pictures of the inside because it was rather dark and to be honest, I didn't think of it until we were about to leave. Baby LOVED the quail! He also loved feeding the turtles outside. For a dollar you get peeled sweet potato and a long stick with a clothes pin attached. I would go back, if they got more outside animals. The fish were magnificent.
Fantastic experience: Far exceeded my expectations. This is a very professionally curated showcase of Oklahoma fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects and mammals. Extremely educational and engaging. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Small, but surprisingly there was plenty for us to do for 2 1/2 hours! Really nice to see a lot of local fish. The kids really loved all the different turtles as well.
Fantastic experience: In a beautiful location. I liked that it combined indoor aquatic fish and outdoor animals. Good experience
Fantastic experience: Beautiful aquarium with a large variety of local fish. Very clean and a great place to take the family.
Fantastic experience: Local gem!! We enjoyed walking the aquarium and grounds. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Loved being greeted in Turtle town, heading about the Gar, the Quail and the Otters. We spent some well needed quality time for family day with our soldier completing basic training. Loved learning about Oklahoma wildlife since we are from New England!
Fantastic experience: We love this place!!
Fantastic experience: They was very friendly , clean and very nice . I love smaller things like this . It was also good for learning things .
Fantastic experience: Small place with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Bring the kids and they will be overjoyed at the sights.
Positive experience: It's worth the $10. I'd go again. The outdoor attractions made it that much better as well too.
Fantastic experience: Was a great time with the kids, I'd recommend this for kids 3-10 most
Fantastic experience: A fun, educational stop on our trips out to Mount Scott. My family and I are consistently impressed with the new exhibits, educational demos, and improvements to existing displays. The mini signage clipboards are a cute touch! We can’t wait to revisit to experience the butterfly habitat :)
Fantastic experience: A fun time for the family to look at fishes and turtles and all in between.
Fantastic experience: Excellent and exhaustive display of fish found on OK, with maps of their range. Plus a good deal of more exotic fish and reptiles.. An otter building and turtle city round it out. Good educational graphics and text.
Fantastic experience: awesome experience! all the staff members were super helpful and so knowledgeable and friendly.
Fantastic experience: I have been multiple times since they opened. I love reading all the information on the fish but I really love the outdoor areas.
Fantastic experience: Nice little aquarium, most of the animal tanks or cages had something in them. Clean and well kept exhibits. Some cool outdoor animals and reptiles to see as well including: venomous snakes, otters, quail, bobcat, and coyote. Prices are in line with other places of comparison. Very friendly and engaging staff. Nice to see so many local varieties of plants, fish, and animals. The gravel parking and walking to and from the entrance I'd say is the only area of concern for people with mobility issues. Would visit again maybe in early summer for the butterfly exhibit.
Fantastic experience: We visited in the off season but lots to see! Great day trip from Moore!
Fantastic experience: Great way to spend a few hours at an affordable price. And we didn't even make it to the outside exhibits. It was too cold outside and windy so leaves opportunity to come back another time. The scheduled exhibit shows/feeding times were educational and entertaining. LOVED meeting the skunk.
Fantastic experience: Came here after our hike today. Got to meet Reese the skunk, literally the sweetest little guy! Enjoyed learning all we could about him. Loved seeing all the fish, frogs and eels. We got there in time to see the electric eel feeding and learned a little about that. We were a bit too cold to enjoy the outdoor stuff but plan on coming back in spring. It wasn’t busy so parking was easy
Fantastic experience: Was beautiful also pretty affordable for tickets and gift shop items.
Fantastic experience: I had such an amazing time with me and my family. The otter, eel and quail feeding was amazing! I definitely recommend
Negative experience: Wasn’t worth the money I spent on tickets. It was a bunch of residential grade aquariums strung together with animals that you can find in your backyard.
Fantastic experience: Staff is super friendly and helpful, very informative and great exhibits and habitats. All animals and fish seemed well taken care of and happy, enclosures were clean. Would definitely go again. Would be great for kids! Tickets were cheaper than I thought and gift shop was cute and well priced as well. Very happy we stopped by.
Fantastic experience: The staff were fantastic. They took the time to explain the animals
Fantastic experience: I can't even explain the amazing time we had at this place. My son is at Fort Sill , so we came from Missouri to visit. We allowed the Holy Spirit and each other as a whole to dictate the trip. We had no idea that it was a Native American feast day, and we came to the aquarium, where they had native dance ceremonies. It was so beautiful, I cried. Then we got turtle mood rings that totally work . On our way home, the Lord gave us a rainbow, which is the symbol of the 7 Spirits of God. Our God is amazing. Thank you, Jesus, for saving us and sending us to the Father through your Spirit, amen. May the God of heaven and earth bless and keep you, May His countenance shine upon you, and may He show you and your families grace and favor forever and ever, amen ❤️
Fantastic experience: We saw so many animals, even ones when never expected to be there! They brought out an all white skunk, they even let us pet him! Great for kids! There is even a little outside trail!
Fantastic experience: We learned a lot here! Most notably we liked how each tank had a short description that wasn’t overwhelming to read. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Ohh this place is wonderful to bring the family. My kids enjoyed this and we had fun just strolling in and Outside! (Didn’t know they had a trail connected)!! Glad they have this place!!
Fantastic experience: Great small aquarium with focus on Oklahoma. Solid afternoon and food around Medicine Park has a lot to offer. There was a wild storm and we had to leave early, they gave us a free pass for thr future!
Fantastic experience: Nice aquarium with more animals outside!
Positive experience: My family enjoyed this aquarium. We just wished more of the exhibits were open at the time. A lot of exhibits were closed till Spring.
Fantastic experience: Friendly environment, friendly staff good place to take the whole family!!! Would definitely return!!!
Fantastic experience: had TONS of fun with my spouse here!! and the gift shop has pretty good prices
Fantastic experience: I went on a roadtrip with my bestfriend and this place totally caught our eye. Had to stop by and so glad we did! Their gift shop had so many knickknacks and the actual aquarium part was pretty cool and we were definitely entertained and enjoyed our time :)
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it. It's fresh water fish and reptiles, so don't go in expecting salt water aquamarine life. Turtle and quail food is $1 a cup. Can't wait to go back when the butterfly exhibit is open.
Fantastic experience: All of the staff are wonderful people. They rescue and rehabilitate most of these creatures, or get them from hatcheries. They're all well taken care of, down to the tinest bugs! We watched them feed scorpions, spiders, silk ants, otters, turtles, and the eel (which was really cool!). There's so much this place offers, including beautiful views, and scenery, aside from the animals! We loved every minute there. Thank you Medicine Park Aquarium!
Fantastic experience: Great place where you can rest 2-3 hours with kids. Adults will be interested too. A lot of fishes, turtles, snakes...
Fantastic experience: This place is a must see. The otter exhibit with biologist Ashley was awesome. Watching them play and interact was cute. So many different fish, rattlesnakes, frogs and lizards. We also enjoyed the quails and turtles.
Positive experience: It is a very nice aquarium for the area. We enjoyed seeing all the fish and the animals outside. Most of the staff was friendly and informative, well all expect the guy that was in charge of the quails that day. He was extremely disrespectful and was angry and mumbling things under his breath as he aggressively pushed the door open. But for the most part great experience
Positive experience: Great place! Kids will love feeding the turtles and quail! Only reason for 4 stars I the outdoor trails getting to some of the animals is a bit rough and can be rough for a stroller and it's a lot of up hil!
Fantastic experience: Such an an amazing find in medicine park! The aquarium itself is nicely laid out with variety of local and non local fish. They also have outdoor areas with turtles, otters, and reptiles. The staff is amazing and friendly, going above and beyond! Two staff in particular, Edan and Ian, were kind enough to help my mom when she started to overheat. 10/10 recommend if you're in the area!
Fantastic experience: It's an education-oriented aquarium. It's nicer than any aquarium I thought would be in the area, and I got to see a good number of fish I didn't know existed. The otter exhibit wasn't open when I went but I've heard good things about that as well. It's worth a trip if you're into fishing or have a family.
Fantastic experience: Great time with granddaughter at aquarium . Specifically the otters. Went on a tues. , not knowing all the shops in the town would be closed except for 2 restaurants. That was disappointing since we were planning for the whole day and I had never been there.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful little aquarium! It’s nice seeing all the local fish and interacting with all the special areas like turtle and quail feedings. We caught an event with the river otters Sam and Dean and they are so cute and playful! Definitely worth seeing in the 105 heat. ☺️
Fantastic experience: This was a great aquarium and nature center. The staff was obviously passionate and they take good care of the animals. Good spot for families to stop by, takes about 1.5-2 hours if you read everything and interact. Had the opportunity to feed the turtles which was cool. Recommended!
Fantastic experience: Great place to walk around, swim , fish, more then likely will be back
Fantastic experience: We've gone several times and the kids always have a blast. Especially like their educational talks for the kids.
Fantastic experience: Great place for the money. Small crowds. Otter feeding was cool. Big boa constrictor. Many diff Okla native fish and some from other places. Spiders scorpion frogs toads
Fantastic experience: Super clean. And clean aquariums. Didn't smell like most places. Handicap accessible. Super nice people . Lots of knowledge about the animals
Positive experience: My family and I went here in father day, it was okay, I wouldn't classified this as an aquarium but a wearhouse with fish tanks. But I guess for Oklahoma standards it meets the criteria. You can feed the turtles, quails and butterflies. On our way out I had to let one of the staff know that one of the quails birds were dead and had looked dead for longer then what they had been open for that day. In my opinion the staff is what really make this place. Every one we encounter were extremely kind wouldn't spend the money to do it again once was enough.
Fantastic experience: Very excellent aquarium. Staff was all extremely friendly. You can tell the animals are well taken care of. Admission price was great.
Fantastic experience: This place was way bigger and cooler than we expected!! They have lots of cool fish, snakes they brought out to pet, you can feed turtles and butterflies and they have otters and coyotes! Our whole family really enjoyed it.
Positive experience: The family had a fun adventure visiting the Aquarium, the majority of the staff was kind and super friendly in answering the kid’s questions. Unfortunately a couple of the staff members were extremely abrasive, unwelcoming and rude. They appeared to be young kids themselves who were miserable. I would give this a five star rating but the younger staff dampened our experience towards the end of our visit.
Positive experience: Really Neat Activity For Kids! Hubby and I decided to check this place out on our day off. The inside is nothing exciting, just river-type fish and small frogs and lizards. But the back side is what makes it fun. There are several feeding stations: butterflies, turtles, quail. They also have snakes, otters and bobcats. Bring extra $$ ~ each feeding station has small cups that are $1 each but worth it to be able to interact with them.
Fantastic experience: This place is such a gem in Lawton. I personally would say it's a must-visit if you're in town. The staff is all wonderful. So friendly. Everyone took the time to chat with us and explain things to us (very knowledgeable people). They clearly care about all of the animals there and respect their job of taking care of them. I really thought it was going to be a very small place but I was pleasantly surprised at just how big the grounds are. There's a lot to see. I'm so glad we stopped here and would definitely come again.
Fantastic experience: This is my kids' all time favorite place in medicine park.
Fantastic experience: Great place! Indoor and outdoor exhibits. They support local schools with field trips. Worth the visit.
Negative experience: If there's a light mist outside they tell everyone to come inside and they will tell us when it's safe to go back outside. I'm a grown man. I know when it's safe to be outside. I've been going here every year but after this nonsense I'm not going back.
Fantastic experience: If you are in the medicine park area I highly recommend. Very reasonably priced. You can watch the river otters eat at dedicated times. You can feed quail and turtles. Have a very large assortment of fish.
Fantastic experience: My kids (7 and 8) LOVED this place! We went on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t crowded so the kids could actually see the animals. The staff was patient and answered every single one of the 98,288,283 questions my son had. (Exaggeration but it felt like he asked that many!) As an added perk, the surrounding scenery was beautiful.
Positive experience: For the price ($12 senior price) it was a splash. The staff was friendly and helpful. Don't miss the outside, my favorite was the Snake Shack. Kids would love it.
Fantastic experience: This is a nice little aquarium. There are a good number of fish here, but just keep your expectations appropriate for the area. Outside there are turtles, otters, snakes, and butterflies as well. We took some visitors here and they really enjoyed it.
Fantastic experience: I have never been here it was really nice I really liked looking at the fish, and 1 of my grandsons loved the fish he is 2 ,and he loved the fish ,and the lizard he cried because he wanted to take one home . It was $1.00 to feed turtle ,and we watched the otters eat. Don't wear sandals if you haven't been there my ankles hurt wore wrong pair of shoes . We had fun though.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful day in Wichita mountains. Medicine park aquarium, to the top of Mount Scott and lunch at the Meers store
Fantastic experience: Just visited with my family over the weekend. My 20 month old nephew LOVED the exhibits, we watched the otter and alligator gar feedings. The employees there were knowledgeable and considerate of both the animals and us, will be going back!
Fantastic experience: It's a delightful aquarium that is unexpectedly clean and fun! The staff were helpful and friendly and the fish were a delight to watch. Information on the exhibits was easy to find and read, and the outdoor activities (like feeding the quail) was a delight, even in the cold weather. Most of their animals are on the smaller side, but they did a good job showing off their collection and making the visit loads of fun for my family and I. The baby otter was just a joy!
Positive experience: Very good experience and we will soon bring the grandkids.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved this place workers were super friendly and interactive with the animals! :)
Positive experience: It is very close to Scott mountain so it should be a good place to check out. It was fun to go through, but could use some attention to detail working lights on tanks, minnow size or very small fish, outside wildlife exhibits. I have to give them some credit for the feeding of the river eel!!!
Positive experience: Went here for school trip. Was kinda small, but interesting. Folks here was very nice and informative.
Fantastic experience: I am really appreciative to have come and helped out with the volunteer program at the aquarium today. I was a bit interested in seeing the different types of fish and learning about what type of snakes there were thanks to Edan teaching me about the different types of snakes. Mr. Kobe was also a very helpful and nice person, as well as some of the additional personnel working there!
Fantastic experience: This place is quite a hidden gem. So many creatures to see and the otters were just adorable. Took my 2 grown boys and they really enjoyed it too. We got the military discount which was very nice!
Fantastic experience: A little oasis in the dry Oklahoma countryside! We stopped in after exploring Mount Scott. The staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable. There isn't ton to see, but it's nice to not be overwhelmed with too much to see. The otters are so cute! You can spend an hour or two easy! They have a nice little gift shop too!
Fantastic experience: Took my friend out since he's never been, we had a great time got to feed the turtles, quail and butterflies. The otters were adorable and I love that they're named Sam and Dean from Supernatural. It's really cool to see all the different fish that you can find here in Oklahoma.
Positive experience: It was just okay. Not worth the entrance fee. What worried me the most was this guy that was outside in the butterfly area. It was 103 degrees outside and he was drenched. He looked miserable. My husband and I could only take like 5 minutes and went back inside. I can't believe they make staff to be outside in weather like that. It bothered me the rest of the stay. I wouldn't go back.
Fantastic experience: We held my son's birthday there today and I could not have asked for a better way to spend his birthday. The staff is truly amazing and so kind to work with -they made this entire process very easy on mom. My son and his cousins got to enjoy the different animals around and the space they had set aside for us was perfect. It's a well run aquarium and worth a visit.
Negative experience: It says handicap online and the inside is accessible but the outside is a horrible experience for someone in a wheelchair. It should be paved so everyone can experience and love the place. The gravel is to thick and rocks are to big for wheelchair wheels. We spent almost $70 for our crew and no one got to experience anything outside. We looked forward to watching them feed the otters, see the butterfly's and the bobcat. I hope this review will help those consider others with disabilities
Fantastic experience: It is a very nice place to visit. The staff is informative of the animals. Loved feeding the turtles
Fantastic experience: Super neat place with lots to see and experience. Ideal for adults, kids, couples and groups. Check out my pics.
