Fantastic experience: Elmer’s Aquarium Store is awesome! You walk in and it seems as though you are in an underwater wonderland. The variety of fish and accessories is amazing. And if they don’t have it, they are willing to order. Annie assisted me in setting up a large aquarium and delivery smoothly. I can’t say enough about Steve; he came out to show me how to use my light system, heaters, and touched up the stand. He was very patient and funny. What a great experience!

Fantastic experience: Everyone is always very helpful. Today specifically, Logan helped us and he was friendly and assisted us quickly. He was knowledgeable and suggested a product we didn’t know about that would improve our tank. Keep that guy around!

Fantastic experience: Elmers is the cleanest fish store around me. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. My fish always seem healthy. Never had an issue. I'm excited to see they are now selling Aquarium Co-Op items! Prices aren't horrible. A good place to get live brine shrimp. Parking is ok. We feel safe there. Can be a little tricky coming in or exiting if you're making a left going in or out. There is a lot of traffic in the area.

From the beautiful plant selection to the incredible variety of fish and the welcoming, knowledgeable staff, the entire visit was a fantastic experience. I’m especially excited that I was able to bring home some stunning butterfly fish and even a plant I didn’t already have and that doesn’t happen often!

Negative experience: They sold me a broken tank. Don’t trust their sales. I now have 40 gallons of water on my floor without a single crack. Bought it less than a month ago and switched my axolotl’s tank yesterday. Woke up at 4 am to a pond on my floor.

Negative experience: This place went downhill. I used to come here as a kid my family has come here for years but after our experience the other day none of us will be back. My family and I stopped here to get some fish for my tank. My family and I all have had fish in the past and we know how to take care of them. The girl getting our fish was extremely rude and made the experience horrible. (I don't remember her name but she was very short) She asked multiple questions about our tank and was very rude when we were trying to pick our fish. She turned us away from buying all the fish we had wanted saying she doesn't recommend them for my tank. Ok, I took her advice but she then goes and starts talking to other coworkers and you can just tell she was talking badly about my family. They all kept staring at us giving us mean looks while my other family also looked for fish to buy. The short girl then gave my family a hard time about buying fish when their turn came up to pick fish to buy. Something needs done about the employees that work in this place. I should also mention some fish were display only which makes absolutely no sense and some tanks had dead fish in them. If they know so much about fish here you would think they would take better care of them and not be worrying about people buying things from them. Good way to lose business and customers! Consider getting people to work for you that smile and treat customers with respect.

Negative experience: I went and bought three neon tetra fishes and they died within three hours of me getting them. I’ve had fish all my life so I know how to take care of them I called the store and told them what happened. They refunded me for the fish, and they also charged me for an item that I didn’t even buy. So I went back and bought more fish, and those fish died within two hours of me putting them in the tank I did everything correctly just as The employee said. I am very disappointed and I will never ever ever go back to the store And also There was multiple fish that I wanted to buy, but they were only for display…. And there was many many tanks that were just for display only what kind of sense does that make?! THIS STORE SELLS SICK FISH EVEN THOUGH THAT MULTIPLE FISH WERE SICK, THAT’S WHY THEY COULDN’T SELL THEM!! Unbelievable, I am extremely disappointed!!!!

Fantastic experience: I'm a beginner at all things aquarium. I went to Elmer's after a quick google search. I'm so happy to have decided to go here. The staff were beyond helpful in all my questions. I was able to have a better understanding of what I need to have a thriving aquarium. I will definitely be back.

Positive experience: Great customer service and selection but multiple fish I've purchased from them have come with bacterial infections or injuries. Many were in rough shape right out of the store, and at least 6 (out of the 22 small fish I've gotten from here at various points) have died within a week of purchase. I appreciate the fact that they have offered refunds, treatment advice, and zero judgement or blame when I have called about these issues. Still, I can't reccomend getting fish here.

Fantastic experience: This is probably the nicest aquarium I have ever been to. they have a pond of fish that is so cool to look at. I also enjoyed looking at the unique fish and corals.

Positive experience: Elmer’s Aquarium in Monroeville is a great local fish store with an impressive selection and incredibly knowledgeable staff. Every time I visit, I’m impressed by the variety of freshwater and saltwater fish, as well as the huge selection of aquarium supplies. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and willing to answer questions about tank setups, compatibility, and fish care. That being said, I’ve noticed that the health of the fish can be hit or miss. Some tanks have vibrant, healthy fish, while others occasionally have fish that don’t look great. I recommend carefully checking any fish before purchasing and asking the staff about their health and origin. Despite that, Elmer’s is still one of the best aquarium shops in the area, and I always enjoy stopping by. Their customer service and product selection make them a valuable resource for anyone in the hobby. If you’re looking for a good local fish store, I’d definitely recommend giving them a visit!

Fantastic experience: Great place with great selection, healthy livestock and a very helpful staff! We are new to the area but love to have Elmer's as our "LFS". My daughter is entering the hobby which I guess means I am getting back into it after a long hiatus and having mostly done salt, there's a lot about fresh that I don't know (backwards I know). They are a great resource and have plenty of equipment and livestock to go in any direction you'd like. Check them out!

Fantastic experience: What a wonderful fish store! It is clean, the staff is friendly and are eager to help you! We come from afar and purchased fish and other supplies here. Fish were packaged well for the trip and all have done well traveling. We were super impressed with their Betta Fish section. How wonderful to see the Betta’s have their own filtered tanks with decor and all! Sure beats the little plastic deli containers we often see them in. Beautiful store!

Negative experience: This store growing up had it all, they even sold bunny's, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, fish and some times kittens. They had supplies for hamsters, Guinea, pigs and all sorts of other different types of animals. Yes, it was a small selection and it was only half of the one part of the store, but it still gives you the option. Now going to the store as an adult for the holidays. It has totally changed to just aquarium stuff. I know it was always called elmer's aquarium, i get the big box stores have all that but when did y'all change so much. At least I know where to go if I need stuff for fish.

Positive experience: Helpful, professional, patient for a new aquatic plant and shrimp set up. I drive 45 minutes one way for the diverse products they sell, animals, plants and their knowledge.

Negative experience: Terrible got fish from here gave my oscar ich a few years ago and now I decided to give another chance grabbed some feeder fish gave him ich again and my ammonia levels are through the roof now my fish is dying and I’m truly disgusted over this. They poison ur fish only for u to come back to have to buy treatment to save the fish. If my Oscar dies I am going to be livid.

Fantastic experience: They always have plenty of fish stocked, as well they usually have fish that most stores don't carry. If there is something you're looking for that they don't have, they can order it and have it in pretty quickly. The fish are healthy and usually acclimate well into the home tank. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Prices for fish food is good, especially the frozen. Worth the drive even from a good distance.

Fantastic experience: I live in Pittsburgh and I really like corydoras. I wanted to get a panda cory but couldn't find sellers anywhere . I found out about this aquarium through a Google search and to my surprise, it was in Pittsburgh!! I left work early and excitedly visited the aquarium and saw a lot of healthy panda corys. There were not only panda corys, but also other beautiful and cute corydoras, which were really big and healthy looking. I will continue to come here!

Fantastic experience: I'm from out of state but I was in the area for work. I had some free time so I decided to stop in and see what Elmer's had. I must say, I'm not disappointed! I even found some items I haven't been able to locate at other stores. Great, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Clean store and tanks and a pretty good selection of fish and supplies all at reasonable prices. My only issue is this place isn't closer to home.

Negative experience: I always had kept fresh water fish and I am interested in starting a saltwater tank so went to Elmer’s to look around and ask questions. It was like I was getting in the employees way when I was looking at fish very rude and nobody wanted to be bothered with. A lot of fish were sick and very skinny or even dead. The only time I was asked if I needed help was on my way out the door. Will never shop here again very disappointed.

Negative experience: I am very disappointed and disgusted by their service. I’ve only ever heard good things about this place so we decided to take the 40 min drive up here. I’ve had fish for over 3 years and I care for them very deeply but by no means am I a professional and I can confidently own up to my mistakes but I’ve never once in my years of owning fish had to use any kind of sick treatment or medications. All my fish have been healthy and happy for years. I test the water regularly and care for them as if they were my own dog. I’ve never had any issues until now. I decided to buy 4 fish from here for $50 and I brought them home the first day was fine the next morning I wake up to all my fish covered in ich an over half of them dead. My fish have never had ich prior to this so I was freaking out having a breakdown, I was crying so hard to the point I was hyperventilating. All of the fish I got from here died as well as my fish I’ve owned and enjoyed caring for for years. We called them and they couldn’t even own up or take responsibility. As I’m bawling my eyes out the lady on the phone told us to check my pH and ammonia levels then switched it up after hearing both were good and blamed the ich on the stress but told us they keep their fish stress free. She kept trying to make it our fault. Then she told us to bring in a water sample because strips aren’t accurate and my strip reading was probably wrong. Made me feel like it was all my fault and that it couldn’t possibly be their fault. The more I think about it the more it makes sense why they only offer half credit back because this happens often and they don’t wanna lose money even though they know they’re selling people sick fish. Even then no amount of money is going to bring back my fish. They only give half credit back. So $25. That isn’t going to make up for any of the damage and loss you guys caused me. I will never ever recommend this place or come back here again. I’m aware that they can’t monitor every fish for sickness and accidents are bound to happen but the least they could’ve done is taken some responsibility an apologized to me. I never take time to write reviews but I genuinely just want to possibly help someone else from the same thing happening to them. So PLEASE please beware when buying fish from here. After reading more deep into their reviews I see their fish introducing ich into customers tanks is a common theme.

Negative experience: THIS PLACE KNOWINGLY SELLS FISH WITH FISH ICH!!!! DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! This place will scam you of your money! Recently bought some fish here and keep in mind I have fish at home and clean my tank on a normal basis so I know my environment wasn’t the cause. As soon as I buy a couple fish here and in the span of 2-3 days all of my fish are dead. DO NOT BUY YOUR FISH HERE! Terrible place. Also overpriced, best bet is to go to PetCo.

Negative experience: Please do not go here. Their fish are not healthy and will kill your other fish. They don’t know what they’re talking about and will make it your fault instead of owning up. They don’t even give a full refund because they know how awful their fish care is hence why so many people come back wanting refunds.

Negative experience: Went here and bought 4 fish at 50.00 for my daughter. Had for 3 days and all died including alot of her previous fish she had for years. Called the location and was made to feel it was our fault with questions about the pH and ammonia and ultimately said they keep their fish stress free and their stress caused ick that caused this. I can't be the only one this has happened to. Very disappointed and it was our first visit to the location. Will not return.

Negative experience: This store refuses to acknowledge they have problems with their fish and tanks. They sold fish that had ich and it killed my childs entire tank of fish. If you cannot properly care for fish then dont own a fish store. This is disgusting.

Fantastic experience: I love Elmer's. Staff are super knowledgeable and helpful. It seems they all really love what they do and are passionate about fish keeping. Their selection is huge and they will offer to get you fish if they don't keep them in stock.

Fantastic experience: I drove 2 hours to check this place out and I wasn’t disappointed. Everyone was very helpful and happy. I didn’t feel like I was bothering anyone with my questions because they were excited to help. I ended up purchasing a Seapora 90 gallon aquarium and some decor for it along with some needed maintenance supplies and food. This place is a must if you want friendly people and awesome selections to choose from. I couldn’t be happier with everything.

Fantastic experience: This place is fabulous. Rehomed a fish that was too big for our modest tank and were so helpful. I wish I could remember the name of the girl who helped us pick out the inhabitants for our tank. She was so patient and answered all of our questions. Highly recommended

Negative experience: I went to buy a new 40 gallon setup. I got recommended a over hang filter, a heater and everything I needed to get my tank setup. The filter is the noisiest thing I have ever heard. I took the pump apart and put Vaseline on it to try and cut the noise down and that has not worked. The heater which is recommended for up to 60 Gallons, is not enough to heat the tank beyond 74 degrees. I transferred my fish from my smaller tank to the now cycled bigger tank. Went back to Elmer's to grab some fish. I looked at the recommended fish my the sales person, one tank had dead and dying fish (I pointed it out) and got a fish from the tank next to that one. Those fish introduced ICH to my fish tank. My heater would not raise the temp high enough for treatment and all but one fish died. Lesson learned, I will always have a quarantine tank for new fish. I am never going to this place again.

Positive experience: This store is an hour away from me, I stopped because I was in town for an event. Have bought good fish & shrimp here in other visits. Disappointed there were no chili rasboras, my most wanted fish. Asked for 2 each of different varieties to add to my stock in 3 tanks. My 2 ember tetras were caught while looking at something else. When I brought them home to float, 1 had a very crooked spine. The other is not an ember, but an unknown fish with a black spot on its dorsal fin. So very disappointed and there's no going back at this point.

One of the owners helped us when we were setting up a larger aquarium with live plants and she was so kind and so generous with the time she spent with us.

Fantastic experience: Great customer service. I placed an order over the phone for a complete saltwater setup. Steve was amazing. He answered all my questions and gave me a run down on how everything worked. Even recommended a place to get lunch. It was well worth the almost two hour drive. All the tanks were remarkably clean. We were looking to re-establish an aquarium, and went in to find out what we could populate our 10 gallon tank with. The staff is so knowledgeable! The things they taught us, and showed us are invaluable. They have me thinking bigger! Their selection is expansive. The fish are very healthy, and the store is clean. Fantastic experience: I've learned my lesson already, this is the only fish/aquarium store in Pittsburgh I'm going to trust or give my business to. Went here on Thursday to pick up supplies to set up our first 10 gallon planted tank. The man who helped us (whose name I wish I would've got) was wonderful. He grabbed baskets and quickly helped us pick out the basics. Then he grabbed a 10 gallon they had in the store and helped us figure out how to scape the tank with spider wood and rocks. He even helped us pick beginner plants. Literally everyone who engaged with us in the store was friendly and helpful. 10/10 fantastic experience. Fast forward to yesterday, our tank was set up and my boyfriend wanted to get fish. Tried the pet smart near our apartment. The employee working the area had called off and the manager was in the office and apparently couldn't help us. So today I thought I'd try petland, which is also close to our apartment. The man working the fish area didn't want to acknowledge me, even after walking through multiple times and finally asking the cashier. I left disgusted and fishless. We're going back to Elmer's on Tuesday for fish. It's 100% worth the longer drive for lots of friendly helpful employees, not to mention healthier looking plants and animals.

Positive experience: So. Generally i have a good experience at elmers. My dad use to take us there when i was a kid. Early 1990's id say ive been going there. Staff Generally are knowledgeable and pleasant. Tonight though. If the one dude ask if i need anything i wont except his help. My fiance told him the fish she wanted. He fully interegated us about our tank and tank parameters. He asked another coworker about our tank size and she was also very rude. She ever rolled her eyes at my fiance. I did not want to be smart or tell him and her they didnt know what they are talking about. My fiance and i have been wanting this fish for a year now and have literally set up a tank specifically for this fish. We made sure everything is perfect. Water parameters are 100% spot on. Ive had some great experiences and memories with my dad there but tonight was very frustrating.

Negative experience: I have been going to this store for past 10 years cuz I wanted to support local business. I was not happy with my last transaction. I bought a fish that is a finicky eater and made sure I had live food in my tank. But I asked the sales associate and another what's the guarantee on this fish and they told me full credit if anything happens within 24 hrs and 1/2 credit within 14 days. Took the fish home and it died within 20 hrs. Called and told them about it and the manger said it's only 1/2 credit and didn't know why the employee said that. Manager said he will make an exception this time and give me full credit for the fish and he'll put it in the notes for reference. Went next day and bought more fish and asked the same manager to apply the full credit towards the new fish. He said he can't do that and can only give me half credit again after insisting that he himself said he will make a exception. I left the store without buying anything n took the half credit in cash. Apparently after getting home I saw they didn't even give me half of $36.99 + tax.

Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I love Elmer's, it's always a pit-stop whenever we're in the Monroeville area. Even if we don't pick something up for our aquariums, their tanks mesmerize us. Staff is super helpful and knowledgable!

Fantastic experience: I bought 4 American cichlids from the store 2 months ago. All the fishes are happy and healthy. They guaranteed to me the fishes are disease free - and they truly are! No hassles from the regular pet stores that brought ick to my tank anymore...They are no doubt the best fish store in Pittsburgh - and I will always be a customer.

Fantastic experience: I've been here several times. They have knowledgeable staff and are very helpful. Just about anything you would need or want for your aquarium. Prices are appropriate. Wide selection of aquarium products for both salt and freshwater tanks.

Fantastic experience: My go to place for aquarium needs . I got my 125 gal setup from here 8 months back . It was a nice experience. And they have all tropical fishes . Highly recommended

Fantastic experience: I recently had two folks from Elmer's Aquarium come to my home and move 3 fish tanks. I have a 13 year old iridescent shark, named Princess, who is more than15 inches long. She is a part of our family. Princess' tank needed moved so we could have our floors refinished. Karen from Elmer's sent her A team, Steve and Kelly, to move the tanks. These people are not only some of the nicest people in the industry, they are truly caring. They were careful about every aspect of moving these tanks from taking special care of our pets to making sure they moved slowly and meticulously not to bang our walls. They even brought enzymes for the fish to make sure they were safe when they changed the water. They didn't leave anything to chance! These two folks worked as a team to get this huge project done. I couldn't have asked for more care. If you need ANYTHING fish related, Elmer's aquarium is the place to go! They are amazing! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Fantastic experience: If I can help it, I only purchase my fish, plants, and supplies from this store. Good prices for quality; can't argue with that. The staff are also super friendly and knowledgeable, and I really appreciate that.
