🗣️ Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater: Reviews
Positive experience: This is one of the better science museums I have visited. My family had a blast! There was so much to do, even for small children. This is the only one I've been to that has an aquarium.
Fantastic experience: This place was 1000% better than any big city kids or science museum we’ve been to. Even with a birthday party going on a Saturday there was not a huge crowd, it was very easy going. I loved that EVERYTHING was for kids, things they can touch and interact with. Nothing you have to say “no” to. You can’t beat the price either. We will definitely be back.
Fantastic experience: Volunteered for critter fest, I had never been to this event and was very impressed with the variety of animals that people could interact with. 10 out of 10 would take my family here
Fantastic experience: We had so much fun especially at critter fest! We watched a movie, pet some cows and elephants then explored the rest of the spectrum! My little sister even got to hold a baby lemur! 10/10
Positive experience: Great place to take the kids
Fantastic experience: Educational for kids, entertaining for adults, and fun for the family
Negative experience: Half the interactive exhibits did not work, parking was horrible. Great for kids, but not for adults. VERY sad to see the camel and elephant in very cramped quarters. Kids need to be taught that it is not ok for wild animals to be taken from their natural habitat and exploited for profit.
Positive experience: This has been around for quite some time. Brought my children here and now my grandchildren. Enjoyed the extra opportunities and great handsome experience! I hope they update some of the exhibits that were not working.
Fantastic experience: Took my grandson. He had so much fun. The crocodile show was cute. ❤️
Negative experience: Very disappointed to see elephants and a camel in small, confined spaces and used for rides at Critterfest. These are intelligent, sensitive animals that deserve far better than to be used as entertainment. It was upsetting to see them in cramped, unnatural conditions. I expected better from an educational institution. This kind of exhibit feels outdated and unethical. Please consider more humane, educational alternatives that don’t exploit wild animals. The Science Spectrum should be promoting respect and compassion—not animal rides. 0/5 stars
Positive experience: Never changes- except what is broken. Critters are the best. Better for 10 and under. Our 11 yo has outgrown it. Shadow box was fun. Can’t comment on Omni. Didn’t watch it. Special critter days might be the better.
Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic time. Spent about 2 hours with my family while my grandson played and learned how gravity works.
Fantastic experience: We were walking through the parking lot, and we found a baby stroller someone left. So we took the stroller inside. Hoping the owner will return for it. Then we went and looked through the gift shop area. Nice things in there. Seeing what times the shows were going to start. Everyone was very helpful. They are getting ready for the Critters Fest. I'm going to bring my daughters back. We want to see Lewis and Clark.
Fantastic experience: The museum is a fun and interesting learning experience. Lots of hands-on fun for kids.
Fantastic experience: My first time going to the science factory was 2 weeks ago, and I took the little girls that I babysit. It was such a great time; very helpful and fun staff.
Fantastic experience: I took my 8 year old granddaughter. We had a Great time. To see the Smile and the fun and laughter on her, was worth the trip. We Truly Enjoyed ourselves. So so much to see and do while you are in there. And Customer Service was the Tops.
Fantastic experience: So much fun for the whole family! Just go, be a kid again with your kids!!!
Fantastic experience: It was a very fun experience and a great place to bring the kids for an excellent price
Fantastic experience: it was so fun to go to dut go no weekday to scip the crowd.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place for kids to play and experience Earth sciences
Fantastic experience: Booked an event room for a baby shower and it was perfect for the price. Helpful crew and easy rental service. The science spectrum itself is always clean and the Omni max always has great educational films for the kiddos.
Fantastic experience: We love coming here, 3 floors of fun and leaning
Positive experience: Most part very fun for the kiddos. But had a issue with the person dealing with the party room being very rude. But otherwise a good time
Positive experience: Some of the attractions are broken and have been for a long time.
Fantastic experience: What a great place to come to bring your children, there are a lot of things to do here. We love the dinosaur exhibit that is located on the main floor, the bottom floor has the teeth, rocks and some dinosaurs, not to mention the aquarium. We just love the aquarium exhibit, there are many fish to look at. My son just enjoyed the train set that is located on the upper third floor, that train station has a lot of buildings. If you are looking to take your children somewhere fun to play, I recommend coming here.
Fantastic experience: My girls enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit
Positive experience: Good' O science spectrum, does the job when needed to get out of the house on short notice and have a fun activity with the kids, it parents you gotta be willing to be have a kids imagination again for the fun!
Fantastic experience: Amazing! Was in town visiting my sister and we took the kids. They could have played for hours more!!
Fantastic experience: What a fun and memorable day! We took our 8-year-old grandson, who was visiting from out of state, and he loved every minute of it. From hands-on science exhibits to the exciting OMNI Theater experience, there was something for all of us to enjoy. It was educational, interactive, and just plain fun. We all had a blast — adults included! Highly recommend this place for families looking to make great memories together.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful dinosaur exhibit for the young and young at heart!
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place! I wish we had more time here also that we lived closer to the science spectrum. I am considering a membership.
Positive experience: Really good experience it was much larger than I expected
Fantastic experience: Amazing scientific experience for our son! He loved being able to explore. Extra love for the dinosaur exhibit and dinosaur film!
Positive experience: Fun time for the kids! Dino exhibit was cool but a little overpriced for what’s there. Still fun though
Positive experience: Cool little spot for the kids
Fantastic experience: Love it, is clean, and has many hands-on items as well as things to see and learn from.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take the grandkids. You will tire out before the activities run out. Extremely affordable!
Positive experience: It was decent. A lot of the exhibits were broken, the animals habitats didn't seem appropriate for the size of some of them, and the snack bar closed well before the museum closed.
Fantastic experience: Lots of things to see and do !! Love it !! Kids had fun !!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely one of my most favorite places to take my littles, I’ve been bringing her her for almost a decade and it never gets old, the fish are my favorite but hers is Rexi in the basement
Positive experience: Its a fun time with the kids, they just havent updated anything really in over a decade so i feel new activities need to be added
Positive experience: I would have enjoyed more time. There are a lot of fun hands on activities for all ages
Fantastic experience: Great place for kids to learn and explore We loved the interactive displays
Negative experience: Almost everything is broken. The enclosures for the animals are extremely smelly and dirty. The science spectrum hasn’t been updated in years, nothing is being fixed. One of the worst kids museums I’ve ever taken my kids to.
Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our time here. We're members of the Don Harrington Discovery Center in Amarillo and got in for free here. It has 3 floors and tons of stuff to do for the whole family. We spent a little over an hour here and easily could have spent 3. We'll definitely be back.
Fantastic experience: Fun had a good time with my kids there’s a lot of things to do
Positive experience: The employees there were courteous and knowledgeable. The place was clean. The thing i didn't like was just how it was organized. But i'd still return just not sure when
Positive experience: The staff was courteous and knowledgeable. The place was very clean. The only negative thing would be the way the concession stand was setup.
Positive experience: Many wonderful exhibits and a great place for families. Unfortunately, most things were dirty, especially the small children area. No one was working that area to keep it organized, clean and be sure the children were five and under. The live animal exhibits of the museum smelled very bad-that cannot be healthy for the animals or people visiting. Also, many of the exhibits were broken. I think people would be willing to pay more for better maintenance of the facility and qualified employees.
Fantastic experience: This is always a family favorite. This trip we attended a bridal shower. It was the perfect space. And even though the Science Spectrum was busy, our space was quiet. Very accommodating.
Fantastic experience: There are a lot of things to do there to keep you busy (My personal favorite is the ball machine). On weekdays, before school lets out, it's very quiet. I enjoy going there. The employees are nice too. I would give this a 5-star rating because of the cleanliness and the assortments of things.
Fantastic experience: Great experience overall! I recommend you go to the OMNI theater at least once. If you have little ones interested in tech or engineering definitely check out the FabLab
Fantastic experience: My you gest grandson had so much fun. He got to play his mom at fame of chess on the big chess board in front he enjoyed.
Fantastic experience: It was so much fun, so much to do and learn about. From aviation to our past currency. Made a date of it with my love.... We even got these made from pennies.
Fantastic experience: I liked the place, a variety of things, there is a dinosaur at the entrance that fascinates you, it doesn't take long to get in and it's a good place.
Positive experience: I love this place very much and so does my family. I just wish the railing in the middle went up higher on the 2 higher levels. I've seen multiple kids almost go flying over the rail.
Fantastic experience: So glad Lubbock has a place like this to provide edutainment for kids and adults. Loved it as a kid, went again recently. We were two adults and had an absolute blast, well worth the admission. If I had kids this would be a very common place to visit :)
Fantastic experience: This place is awesome. The staff is also amazing. Very affordable and packed with loads of entertainment and activities.
Fantastic experience: Loved it! Took the kids and they had a great time! Went to the OMNI as well and enjoyed it! Recommend it!
Fantastic experience: It's just so amazing. Spending time with your kids and making the smarter with everything it has to offer. It's better the Main Event.
Fantastic experience: What a great resource to share with other families in Lubbock, Texas. It's a joy to see parents introducing their children to science at any age, and the whole experience is very tailored no matter how old the kids, parents, grandparents, and extended family are. The Omni Theater alone is worth a dive start review. Such a cool resource to enjoy panoramic, educational film experiences from around the world, right here in little ole Lubbock.
Positive experience: Awesome museum in Lubbock, really the one kids one that is worth it. Exhibits have been the same for multiple years and something’s are broken. Workers that i have interacted with have not been kind except who i assume the manager was. The only changing exhibits you have to pay to get into, a separate fee from the rest of the museum. General admission tickets are 9$ for adults.
Fantastic experience: There are so many displays to look at and interact with that you wouldn't be able to do it all in one day. Super fun for the kids!
Positive experience: One of the few enjoyable family fun places is the annual Critter Fest, but there is room for improvement, especially regarding the food offerings. It would be beneficial for them to consider bringing in food trucks to provide a more diverse and appealing dining experience to go with the fun.
Positive experience: My kids are now grown and I have been able to take the grandkids. It really needs to be updated some of those exhibits and items they interact with are dated I remember some from when my kids were little. Some of the items that the grands interacted with are broken. Not trying to bash or be rude just honest opinion . Nonetheless my grands do have a good time when we go.
Fantastic experience: Took the grandkids and I think I was more entertained then the kids. Each floor had a ton of science stations that will entertain any age. The price was affordable. I plan on going back and trying the imax theater. We had a great time!
Fantastic experience: My entire family enjoyed this experience. It is very hands-on and was fun for all of us. My husband and I played right along beside our children. I learned all kinds of things. Awesome place and a must visit if you are in Lubbock.
Positive experience: Fun until the older lady (assuming management of some kind) kept walking up to the kids in the water plat area and kept taking the toys from them to put them in buckets even though the toys go to the water area. We ended up just leaving. My kids are 2 and 5. It was also 2p.
Fantastic experience: Great interactive museum for the whole family! Love it every time we visit!
Fantastic experience: Had a great time spent most our day there today. Enjoyed all the shows and events today
Negative experience: When my kids were growing up we loved this place but this past weekend we have a birthday party there and received the worst customer service and on top of that parties are in the basement and right at five o'clock they turned off lights knowing my party was over at 5 and with party packages online states we would get gift cards and we never got those...worst place to have a party
Positive experience: Great place for kids to learn and explore. Would love to see some updates to the exhibits and new things to explore.
Positive experience: Kids really enjoyed all the things to do and animals to look at.
Fantastic experience: We did not do since of the extras available that day like the IMAX, but the museum has 3 floors of activities and exhibits that kept our 5 year old engaged all afternoon. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Fantastic experience: Was so much fun we came during spring break and it was so much fun. There was plenty to do for a full day of fun. The price was not bad either for 2 adults and a child for all 3 areas was only $58. So we got to see the main exhibit and the special exhibit and watch a show. We ended the day getting some fun things from the shop. I would reccomend coming here for a full day of fun.
Positive experience: So so much fun! We loved our visit and will definitely be back. There were things for kids of all ages. We could spend all day here!
Fantastic experience: My kids love it here!!!! It would be nice to see new stuff. Majority of everything there has been there since i was in elementary school!! other than that it still is exciting and prices are great to the Spectrum and the OMNI theater!!!
Fantastic experience: Great place for the kids! very good learning experience!
Fantastic experience: The kids interactive exhibits are always a fun time. The air cars, the music games, the fish and animals, so much to mention.
Positive experience: Most of this place is pretty awesome. I attended during an event I didn't even know was going on (don't live in Lubbock) so there was a lot of people in the main area. Price of the Museum ticket, only 9 dollars, is very reasonable. Don't worry, they'll make sure and get your money out at the gift shop, which of course I had to visit for a keychain and a dinosaur sign. The museum itself didn't have as many people and that's why I was there anyways, so took a stroll around. Do note that I haven't been to the Science Spectrum in over 5 years...and still looks 100% the same. The exhibits have very rarely if at all changed. On top of that, many of the interactive ones have broken down it seems. Find a "Push this button" and there seemed to be 90% chance that said button didn't work. And, several of the ones down in Aquarium were outdated, mentioning that said animal was in there, while it wasn't but another one was with a piece of paper above it to describe it. However, that all being said it is still fun to go to, just not very frequently unless you are going to the OMNI Theater which I did not this time around, so consider my review for only the museum half. If you go there too much, it will get boring very quickly. Maybe an annual or bi-annual visit is best, or just for the events that they host.
Positive experience: Alot of fun for kids and kids at heart. 3 floors of fun and Science. Great events every now and then. The theater is a fun experience. They do get busy when it's during spring break or when kiddos are out of school.
Negative experience: Drive 2 hours to take my grandkids to this museum. Waited to buy tickets in line for over 15 min with only 1 person in front of me. The person selling the tickets was either slow as tar or completely inept. Finally got in and the majority of the interactive displays were broken. Waited for the reptile show and they cancelled it 5 minutes beforehand. Looks like it might have been a 5 star experience 10 years ago but not anymore. Disappointing and not worth the money!
Positive experience: Good sized museum... big enough not to get overwhelmed and small enough to see, explore, and experience everything that they have. Well worth going, won't be disappointed!
Fantastic experience: So much to explore! This is a great place for kids at any age to experience science and engineering on their own terms. Spend an hour playing with bubbles, and on your next visit, watch the sharks swimming. Be sure to bring a snack to eat with the dinosaur in the atrium.
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it here. 13 and 15 yrs. We will cone back
Fantastic experience: Always a fun place to take small children; they do not update the exhibits often, but the animatronic dinosaur is neat, and the aquaria/terraria and exhibit describing the Texas climate/geography is informative. I recall them have animal "shows" and things like that. Worth taking your children to see--they have a nice and sectioned-off young children's zone with a water table, blocks and other toys that are age appropriate and fun. Also, and maybe more for adults/older kids, check out the OMNI theater---immersive experiences on that convex wide screen (dizzying a bit too!).
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing Center for all ages! We are from Abilene and travel monthly to visit the center.
Fantastic experience: The kids spent time enjoying every area. We have a year pass so we spend a lot of time here. Best part is that with the pass, we've been able to enjoy other museums at no additional cost with our pass!
Fantastic experience: Such a great museum! I love visiting science museums all over the US and this has been by far one of the best. Lots of items for physical interaction with young kids, and plenty of science, facts, and history about each area to keep adults and older children entertained. Well worth the cost!
Fantastic experience: This is a jewel of lubbock - what a great find. If we lived in the area a yearly pass would be a must! Well kept, it's not crowded, tons of activities for anywhere from a 2 year old to early teens. That being said, I even had a great time exploring!
Fantastic experience: This place was absolutely awesome! We came from Amarillo and had some things to do in Lubbock and thought this would be a fun treat for the family after our errands. Our kids are 16,14,10,5, and 2. Everyone had a blast!!! Everything was clean, and in good, working condition, and there was something for everyone. We could’ve stayed for hours, but we got there at 3 and they closed at 5. The play place for the littles and the castle was especially fun and wore our kiddos out. Also loved the aquarium area! We will definitely be back!!!
Positive experience: Love this place for my one year old. I have already brought him a few times since we do come from NM but every time we come to Lubbock we are going to the science spectrum for him because he loves it there.
Positive experience: We got the yearly pass that includes 1 kid and 1 adult. It is such a great place for kid's especially when the weather is bad and you need entertainment.
Fantastic experience: The Science Spectrum is my families favorite weekend spot. Lots of great activities for kids, you can spend the whole day here. Membership is so worth it!
Positive experience: I love this place, BUT.... It is in dire need of some updates. Half the displays don't work, and the other half were there when I went there as a kid.... 20 years ago. The entire "History of finance" section has dust on it. What 6-15 year old is enthralled by banking? I really REALLY want this place to succeed, but I also want my children to be inspired, and it just doesn't do it anymore....
Fantastic experience: Love this museum. Unlike some other science museums we've been to, they actually try to keep the exhibits in working order. I don't understand why it's always so slow here but I like it because we never have to compete for exhibits.
Fantastic experience: I went here with my granddaughter and was surprised at all we found. There were lots of interactive exhibits regarding sound, light, sports, illusions, and more. We also viewed a show at their Omni Imax theater. This place is well worth a visit, especially if you have kids.
Fantastic experience: The Omni Theater was amazing! The Mummy special exhibit was educational and nicely displayed. The activities Science Center was fun we only made it through the Third of the time before it was time for us to leave. Will definitely come back again.
Fantastic experience: Three floors with many different kinds of exhibits and activities. We had a blast there. Entry was surprisingly affordable considering how nice it was and how much there was to do.
Positive experience: It's a great place for kids to go a few times with lovely real world examples and hands on science concepts. The exhibits can be great for adults too. I'm 36 as of today and can see a LOT of the place hasn't changed since I was kid myself.
