Fantastic experience: We had been wanting to take a trip up from VA since we moved there. So, on a trip to ReefAPolooza we stopped it. Believe me they did not disappoint. Best selection of peacocks, hap, and mbuna anywhere we have been. We were even able to find a nice silver arowana. Pete could not have been nicer. Overall great job, we look forward to a subsequent visit.

Fantastic experience: I was here for my first time.I bought a few betta fish from this pet shop, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! The staff (KONNER) was super knowledgeable, friendly, and took the time to answer all my questions about proper care. The bettas were healthy, and well kept in clean tanks. The shop was well organized, and you can tell they really care about their animals. I’ll definitely be coming back for more supplies and more fish in future. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality fish and great customer service!

The staff was incredibly nice especially Eddie. Eddie helped me choose the perfect additions for my aquarium. Fantastic experience: I randomly walked into The Fish Hut of NJ one day with zero knowledge about fish care, and I’m so glad I did! Eddie was incredibly helpful! he took the time to educate me and helped me pick out a perfect starter tank along with everything I’d need to create a healthy environment. Fantastic experience: A GREAT OVERALL EXPERIENCE!!!!! My 7-year-old kid, wife, and I have been here 2 times already. The first time we were just checking out the place and what kinds of fish they have because we were around the area and I knew right away that I found my go to store for all my aquatic needs. Both times every staff were very welcoming and friendly attentive to us and what we were looking for. So, to start of this 2025 year I am a new Cichlid owner and after all the vigorous online research I’ve been doing I am so obsessed with this new hobby. My wife’s uncle who passed away at the beginning of the year-God Rest his Soul, had a huge 125gallon tank that his wife wanted to get rid of and wanted to make sure it goes to someone who will want to care for them and home their cichlids in a good place, and so enter me. To my surprise my wife mentioned to me that this particular store is where he would usually get his cichlids from. So, I definitely wanted to check them out ASAP!! Just over Memorial Day weekend my family and I headed straight there for some new Cichlids to join our other water family members. Rice was the employee that helped my family and I out in our quest to pick out new colorful and beautiful cichlids. Again, I cannot stress enough how the employees are so knowledgeable and very friendly. They and Rice were very kind and cool to my 7-year-old boy that was running around all over the store and Rice was so patient and helpful with any questions I had of finding the best looking male with all the bright colors. Rice was even showing me pictures of his set up that he has at home as I was too. One thing that both Rice and I agreed on is that this is a very addicting hobby lol I was mentioning to him that the year just started and I already have 4 tanks (a 125g, a 55g, a 30g quarantine tank, and a small 10 gallon one lol). After Rice helped pick out and pack up my 6 new Cichlid members Pete rang us up and Rice helped with loading them up in my car. Over all the Fish Hut of New Jersey is hands down your ultimate go to for all and any African cichlids that you are looking for. And if they don’t have it, they definitely can get their hands on them if need be. Their prices were reasonably priced and there’s even a punch card where you can get more fish so that’s a great incentive. I definitely will be back for more fish and I would 100% recommend checking this store out to beginners like myself and to long time enthusiasts as well.

Niko was absolutely amazing and was super knowledgeable on everything I need to take care of my fish. He listened and answered all my questions! My kids also loved seeing all the fish. Their selection is unreal and it’s super clean! I highly highly highly recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this store for several years now. Consistently pristine tanks and they have hundreds - always a good sign! Staff are very busy but still quick to help and very knowledgeable. Extensive selection of healthy fresh and salt water fish at reasonable prices and if they don't have what you want, they will call you when the fish come in. Plant selection is less varied and they don't use CO2, but what they do have is good quality, healthy and well labeled. They also have a large selection of aquarium supplies and fish food including frozen. The store does stock some aquascaping hardscape including a decent selection of rock and wood. No dojo to work out designs but their focus is definitely on general fish keeping at which they truly excel. Johnny Shorts helped us last time and was awesome but I have not had a bad experience with any of their staff yet and can highly recommend this place is worth a visit if you are new or experienced in the fish keeping hobby.

Every mom-and-pop shop in my area came up short, and all I could find were African cichlids or fish that would grow too large for my tank. After countless hours of searching, I finally discovered The Fish Hut—and though it was more than 45 minutes away in New Jersey, I decided to make the trip. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I felt like part of the family. As I explored the store, Jon Jr. kindly approached me and asked if I needed help. I shared my vision for my new tank and showed him a picture of the fish I had my heart set on—the African Leopard Bushfish. To my delight, they had plenty! Not only did Jon Jr. help me design my tank around that fish, but he also introduced me to the beautiful Blue Acara, ensuring I had the perfect setup. Beyond the incredible selection of fish, the store had everything I needed—substrate, soil, plants, and décor—all carefully curated for passionate fish keepers. I want anyone in my shoes, searching for the perfect place, to know about The Fish Hut. This store is truly a gem, dedicated to helping people discover the joys of fishkeeping. One particularly memorable moment came when I was recommended a striking Jewel Cichlid—who, as it turns out, had quite the personality! Within two days, he became the undisputed mafia boss of my tank, terrorizing everything in sight. Understanding my situation, the team at The Fish Hut kindly told me to bring him back, showing just how much they care about their customers and their aquatic companions. Tomorrow, I’ll be returning to the store, and I can confidently say that they’ve earned a customer for life. Looking ahead, when I set up my dream 200-gallon aquarium, I know exactly where I’ll be going—no need for multiple stops. With their fantastic selection and fair prices, The Fish Hut is the place to be for any fish enthusiast.

Fantastic experience: This was my first time coming here, I’ve had fresh water fish before however I’ve always stuck with betta fish. I decided to expand my palate and coming here was the best decision I’ve ever made. I haven’t yet gotten my fish because I was advised to cycle my tank for atleast 24 hours beforehand. I can’t wait to go back and get shrimp and fish, Jon is such a great help and very knowledgeable.

Positive experience: My visit on Sunday, May 4th, was significantly better than today, May 6th. On Sunday, Konnor was exceptionally great, knowledgeable, and helpful. He did not direct us to a shelf, but actively took us and explained everything in detail. For what it’s worth he’s also quite handsome. Today’s service was not as impressive as Sunday’s. The filter I purchased was missing a part, and I returned it today, but it was not as satisfactory as Konnor’s service. While it was not bad, exceptional service is what one typically expects when Konner set stands high.

Fantastic experience: I go here for all of my fish needs. They have a huge selection of fish, with everything from nano fish to huge oscars. They also have a great selection of supplies from air pumps/tubes to water conditioners/fertilizers. Everyone who works here is really nice and helpful. I don't ever feel like a stranger going here. Would recommend to anyone in the area who enjoys keeping fish as a hobby!

Fantastic experience: Just went to Fish Hut in Saddle Brook, since my Reef Encounters spot near Hackensack no longer in business, and received excellent service. They were able to answer my questions as a plant/flower cuttings rooting grower. Staff were responsive and had experience. Will be going back as I expand my projects and get new ideas, thanks!

Both times, we went home with a group of Mbuna. They have the biggest selection of Mbuna compar r to any other place we’ve been to.. and we’ve been to many places in different states! Fantastic experience: Recently converted a saltwater nano to planted tank. I Remembered this store and took a trip there with my daughter. I could’ve stayed all day looking at all the fish with her. We were greeted and helped by Jr and he was awesome. I happen to be a jr too! Also we’re both ufc fans! It was like I was hanging with a brother from another mother. He expertly helped us pick out the best fish, shrimp, and plants for my set up. He even spent the time to cherry pick the very best ones for me. Much appreciated! Then I got educated on everything from acclimation down to which food to get. Heck he even helped me bring all the items I bought out to the car on a rainy day because I had to carry a toddler. A+ service!

The selection of cichlids from Lake Tanganyikais very impressive. The tanks throughout the store are clean and the selectionof fresh water fish is very good. I would also say some of the fresh water fishI have seen in the store were the best looking individual fish I have ever seenof a particular species. The selection of fish food,supplies, and aquarium equipmentis okay. I am happy the store has prioritized having a wide variety of healthy fishspecies than dedicating most of the floor space to equipment and supplies. Thatbeing said, I did purchase an aquarium with a stand, lid and lighting (180 gal)along with a few filters, a good amount of hardscape (rock) and other suppliesall of which were in stock when I wanted them. It is important to me to becomfortable with a store’s personnel and not feeling pushed into makingequipment purchases and being “upsold” . I am very comfortable with the staffhere and enjoy my time in the store. Shopping in a small business like the Fish Hut has a verydifferent feeling than going to a national store. Fantastic experience: I went to the fish hut this past Thursday, I was amazed at the huge selection of fish, it was more than I had ever seen anywhere else. In the first few minutes of being in the store 4 different people offered their help. We ended up with Pete who was very knowledgeable and extremely patient with us. Overall a very pleasant experience going back in the next day or so for more fish.

Fantastic experience: First off, if you want a large selection of fish, this is your place! They have many many tanks of common tropical fish, as well as some that you won't find elsewhere. Some that are nice and mature and beautiful. They have a very large selection of cichlids, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the nice quality discus that they had. Pete and Eddie were super helpful with me answering any of the questions I had about their discus. When I came into the store, it was not that busy, but then several customers arrived. He kept checking in with me without being overbearing. When I was finally ready to make my purchase, he again asked if I had any questions and offered some great advice. If you want I'll local fish store that goes above and beyond, this is your place!

Walked into a welcoming store with beautiful fishes and well kept tanks.it took me a while to make a decision ( so many beautiful specimens) And the staff was very attentive and guided me into my preferences. Fantastic experience: I went to this store yesterday looking for a specific fish (parrot cichlids) due to others being over priced, and happily purchased three. I didn't get the names of the two gentlemen who were helping customers, but I appreciated the fact that while they were already engaging with some, they acknowledged me on the walk in by saying "let us know if you need anything", as opposed to hounding us without allowing us me to freely explore the store. I was checked on again after circling the entire store, where I was then ready to accept assistance in finding what I came to purchase. The experience was very easy going, and I was asked multiple times if I was certain that I had everything I needed, which I appreciated, because I almost left without grabbing the filters I needed as well from the excitement of having the fish in hand. The gentleman who helped me was also very patient with assisting in confirming what gender of fish I was purchasing, and for all of these reasons I will certainly be back soon for all my aquatic needs.

Fantastic experience: Had my first visit to Fish Hut earlier today and was assisted by Pete. Pete was very pleasant and checked in periodically to see if I needed help. Very nice store, clean, and prices were reasonable. Huge cichlid stock, very impressed. I’m coming from Rockland County, but I think Fish Hut is my new go-to shop for my aquarium fish. I ended up buying a bunch of Rummy Nose and Cardinal Tetras and they are having a ball swimming around my tetra community tank right now. Thanks Fish Hut!

Fantastic experience: I bought 6 large healthy Mbuna African cichlids at the fish hut a few weeks and they are all healthy and doing great! There really aren't any other tropical fish stores in North Jersey that even come close to matching the selection of the Fish Hut.

Negative experience: The fish died a day after. I even use the same water that came in. I did get a good customer services at the store, but the fish didn’t even last a day. It cost me 30 dollar.

Thank you so much Eddie for helping me throughout this whole process. Eddie was very thorough when explaining which fish would work best together and how big they would grow also the temperature that calls for each species. Fantastic experience: As a new fish keeper I stopped by The Fish Hut with the hope to get some help on what to stock my 55 gallon planted aquarium with. I asked Jon Jr some questions and explained my situation and he went above and beyond to help me to stock my 55 gallon tank with some awesome, beautiful, healthy fish. Fantastic experience: Our son wants to have gold fishes as his pets so we visited Fish Hut, we are beginners but Konner from Fish Hut helped us a lot on picking the right gravels, water plants and the water conditioner and so on. He also helped with the "strong" kind of gold fishes so we can have an easy start. His kind illustrations really helped us to start the journey!

Fantastic experience: You know those nerves you feel when you delve into a new hobby and don't want to sound stupid asking novice questions at the store? If so, this is the place for you! I usually work with Jr. but everybody at the Fish Hut has been so helpful, knowledgeable, and welcoming. I mentioned that we were getting fish for my elderly mom to keep her mind sharp and give her something constructive to do. I also had my young kids with me who had their own ideas of what to get for "Nonna" including a snail. The awesome staff at Fish Hut provided a great group of low maintenance fish (and everything else they need o thrive) that satisfied everyone. I've been back a couple times when me or my mom mess something up with fish care and they are always ready with that welcoming customer service, a chill vibe like "don't worry, we got this." and the proper solution. Why go to a big box store that handles multiple animals for your fish needs when you can go to a fish specialist handling fish from all over the world? Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Every time I visit this place I leave with a lot more than I intended to buy, the guys that work there are friendly and very knowledgeable about their fishes and how to care for them, all of their fish are in great condition as well. Pete helped me this time, I was looking for stress coat for my fish to accommodate them to their new tank and was able to recommend which species of fish would get along with my beta (Finn). I highly recommend coming here for all of your aquarium needs.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been to multiple Aquariums (Fish Store) around. Fish Hut’s employees know what they are talking about. You can tell they are not hired just to have a body in the store, they have highly experienced and knowledgeable employees. Jon Jr. was the person that assisted me. The minute you walk in Fish Hut, you are acknowledged and quickly ask you, if you need assistance. If you don’t need assistance, they leave you alone. They don’t hound you just to make a sale. I recently purchased an aquarium and stand and other items needed. Once they received my money, Jon Jr. didn't just walk away, like it was a quick sale and off he went. Jon Jr. assisted me with bringing all my items to my car with another employee. Jon Jr. last words were, “Call us for any questions, no question are a dumb question”. “We are always here to assist”. Fantastic experience: I always have the best time when I come here. It was our second time there and I’m obsessed . I got to know about African Cichlids because of my boyfriend and now I am in love with our fish babies. We got them as juveniles and they’re now growing a coloring up thanks to Jon’s great picks! Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at the Fish Hut of New Jersey. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Jon Jr. helped us with our selection of fish and was very knowledgeable. They had a wide selection of fish especially African Cichlids which is what I was looking for. I ended up bringing home 9 African Cichlids and and 2 Synodontis Catfish all of which are doing great at home. I will be returning for future purchases!
