🗣️ Long Island Aquarium: Reviews
Positive experience: This is a super cute aquarium. The exhibits are entertaining and fun. The staff is helpful and friendly. Best butterfly exhibit I've ever been to. The rays actually let you pet them. There's a free shuttle to the parking lot. Only a few things keep me from giving this a five star review. (Which maybe all boil down to the fact that I live within driving distance of one of the world's best aquariums.) It could be more educational. The exhibits don't label every kind of creature so you don't even know what you're looking at. And I can't believe they charge extra for the play structure. I understand charging for experiences that require extra staff to manage. But it's just cruel to show kids an awesome play structure that they can't use if they can't afford it (after paying a lot to get in in the first place.) still totally worth going. (and though it's fairly accessible, the bathrooms are so slippery that it's dangerous. Not because they are dirty, but the tiles themselves.)
Fantastic experience: Great place although expensive but opportunities to get discounts with their partnership with the libraries and children centers it's a great destination that's close and you can create memories.
Thank you so much for visiting, we hope to see you soon!
Positive experience: $12 to park a quarter of a mile away from the entrance, in a parking lot with huge flooded potholes. no family changing room chicken fingers, fries and a coke were over $20 still, very good staff. eco/learning friendly aquarium. beautiful scenery
Fantastic experience: The aquarium is the perfect getaway for part of your trip. Take your time walking around and review the map. We loved the outdoor area but of course very hot outside. Many different things to see and ending with the butterflies was perfect.
Thank you so much for visiting! We're glad everyone had a good time and we hope to see you soon.
Fantastic experience: This place is great; there are so many great things to see from sharks to all kinds of fish. The vibrant coral reefs teem with life, creating a mesmerizing underwater landscape. Visitors can observe the graceful movements of sea turtles gliding through the water, adding to the enchanting experience. Educational exhibits provide fascinating insights into marine ecosystems, making it both fun and informative. As the sun sets, the atmosphere transforms, with bioluminescent creatures illuminating the depths, leaving everyone in awe.
We’re thrilled you had such a memorable experience! We hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Long Island Aquarium (LIA) is simply amazing. Over 3 acres of direct contact with natural ecosystems, and a community focused awareness approach towards engagement and care for wildlife. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! We're glad you enjoyed your visit and truly appreciate your encouragement.
Negative experience: Tickets were expensive for such a small aquarium. You could see more exotic species of fish at a pet shop, however the butterfly exhibit, shark tank, and touch tanks were nice. The most disappointment came from some of the staff members who seemed a bit racist. They only greeted certain groups of people (particularly those with a lighter skin tone) and blatantly scrutinized others. I would never recommend nor return to this place after such a terrible experience.
Fantastic experience: It is such a great, fun, family-friendly place to visit. There is a wonderful climbing gym and fun sea lion show. We love feeding the sting rays, and the family membership has been our go-to for the past decade.
Thank you for being such loyal members for all these years! It means the world to us to be part of your family's memories!
Positive experience: Brought our 4 month old here. She loved it as did we. The butterfly exhibits was beautiful seeing all the different butterflies. The fish tanks were kept up with well. The animals appear to be in well kept up with enclosures and appear happy and healthy. We saw staff attending to the animals in a caring manner and the tanks as well. There were many things to look at and enjoy inside and some outdoor things as well. The food court could use a little bit of an upgrade but that’s neither here nor there. Kids under 2 are free admission is free on your birthday and many local libraries offer discounted tickets. I highly recommend taking advantage of one of these opportunities.
Thank you for the thoughtful feedback, we’re so glad your family, including your little one, had a wonderful time! Thanks for recommending us!
Fantastic experience: Very cute aquarium, went here for my brother's birthday! It's sizable for a half a day excursion and we saw lots of animals
Thanks for celebrating with us! We're glad you and your brother had a fun time exploring the aquarium and enjoying the variety of animals, we hope it made his birthday extra special!
Positive experience: I visited this aquarium last summer. It a bit pricey considering it's not a very big venue. And sadly, I missed out on the butterfly section . Despite that, it was a really good experience overall. I am so grateful for the staff member in the shark exhibit section, who was giving explanations; she was super helpful and even took photos for me. They feature a show, have a restaurant, koi ponds, and the chance to feed stingrays. I’d say it’s definitely a fun outing for families
Thank you for sharing your experience, we’re so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit and that our staff made it even more memorable! While we’re sorry you missed the butterfly exhibit, we hope you’ll come back soon to catch it and explore even more. We truly appreciate your feedback and are happy to know it was a fun outing overall!
Fantastic experience: Nice, well maintained aquarium. Good place to spend a few hours walking around. Toddler friendly. A little expensive but worth it.
Thank you for your honest review, we hope to see you back soon!
Positive experience: My 7 month old loved the aquarium but a lot of the exhibits were closed or under construction..Maybe because of the off season (we went on a weekday in mid May) but for the price of admission I expected more. The penguins weren't out and we didnt see sea lions. Many of the tanks looked like they needed to be cleaned and some of the animals looked sad to me. The people working there were very friendly and the girl at the desk did tell us if we waited until 3, the price was half off, which we appreciated. Overall a fun experience but definitely pricey. *Edit* We went back this past weekend (June 2025) and the tanks were MUCH cleaner. Still expensive but better experience this time
Thanks so much for your review! We hope you and your family enjoyed your visit. We hope you come visit again soon!
Positive experience: Great way to spend an afternoon. The indoor tanks are interesting and the butterfly room almost steals the show. In warm weather there’s a lot happening outside.
Thank you for the kind words! We're glad you enjoyed the indoor habitats and that the butterfly room made such an impression. There's always something special to discover, especially when the outdoor areas come to life in warm weather!
Negative experience: Hell if there are field trips there. Call in advance to see how many will be there for the day if you’re going. It’s also very expensive and they decided to cancel the last sea lion show of the day for maintenance they should be doing after the day. When you spend $200, you need to keep everything running. My daughter was devastated. Probably won’t go back
Fantastic experience: Very toddler-friendly and the staff is incredibly helpful. I wish I had gotten her name, but one staff member stood out—right after I bought my food, she noticed I needed help and kindly walked me out to the picnic tables without me even having to ask. Such a thoughtful gesture! I highly recommend this aquarium.
Thank you so much for your honest review! We're glad you had such a great time and we hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: We have a membership (as long as you go twice a year it pays for itself) and we love love love it. It’s my kids favorite place! I’ve also attended a birthday here and it’s adorable. You can buy slightly discounted tickets at your local library usually.
Thank you so much for being a valued member and for sharing the love! We’re thrilled to be your kids’ favorite place and that you've enjoyed both visits and special events like birthdays with us.
Negative experience: The aquarium is relatively small and by far the most expensive aquarium we have visited. You can see whole place in less than 1 hour (even with toddlers). Compared to the variety of fish and animals you see at other places (American dream mall, mystic aquarium (CT), Virginia Beach Aquarium) it is definitely underwhelming and IMO not worth $50/adult.
Fantastic experience: Whether its a weekend or weekday this place is always a blast with my family. If you want to save some money on tickets I would do ok the 25th of the month or to your local library. Every local library sells then discounted!
Thank you for the great feedback! We’re so happy to hear that visiting is always a fun experience for your family, no matter the day, we hope to welcome you back again soon!
Positive experience: This aquarium is great and of course very kid friendly! The penguin and sea lion show is a must. It’s the perfect size to you can go through it quick or take your time. Cafe has great food and the workers are very friendly. I would say the only bad thing about going during the week is this is now the second time going during the week and there are so many field trips.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback, we’re so glad you enjoyed the shows, habitats, and our friendly staff! We appreciate your patience when you visited. We hope the overall experience made it worth it, and we’d love to welcome you back again soon!
Positive experience: I try going here once a here. It's fun to see all the underwater creatures and kids love it. There is a place to get quick lunch or you can bring your own.
Thank you for making us part of your yearly tradition! We’re happy to hear it’s a hit with the kids and that you enjoy the marine life. We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: My wife and i bring my kids here all the time. Food isnt so great. The giant play treehouse that was built is a great playground for kids.
Fantastic experience: Fun activities for the kids, seal lions, shows is the best. Gets crowded, so go early! Food is ok for the kids. All add on are pricey but worth a memory.
Positive experience: This aquarium is not big. Better for smaller kids. The touch tanks were nice and you get to buy fish to feed the stingrays and turtles. Parking is not on premise. It was about a block away and it's $12. You might have luck finding a street parking. the food was not good to put it nicely. we ate it just because there is nothing else to eat. My son struggled to even finish his pizza. I hope they can improve on their restrooms/bathrooms by the cafeteria. That's the only one I went to since I didn't know there was another one. But it was pretty gross. The floors were all wet, probably from a leak...but still just feels gross. And the sink counters were all wet as well and at the end of the day, there was no more soap either.
Positive experience: Not What I Expected – Needs Improvement ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ I went to the Long Island Aquarium yesterday with my daughter and friends, and to be honest, I left feeling disappointed. The entrance is pretty expensive, and for what you get, I don’t really think it’s worth it. A lot of the animal areas (habitats) were empty, and there weren’t many species to see. The butterfly cave was also almost empty compare to when I last went there on 2021, which was sad because I was looking forward to that . The penguin area was closed off for most of the day, and they only started bringing them out around 2 PM. The little show they had with the sea lions was super short, and the kids’ playground — which you’d expect to be included — was an extra $12! That part really surprised me. I’ve visited this place before and honestly, I feel like it has gone downhill over the years. BUT I’ll give 3 stars because the ice cream we had was amazing, and my daughter still had a fun time walking around. I just wish they would bring more value to the experience, especially for the price they charge. Hopefully they make some improvements soon.
Positive experience: My family visited during their 25th anniversary special, with admission priced at $25 per person on May 25th. I’m really glad we went on that day because, honestly, the aquarium isn’t worth the regular admission price of $50 for adults and $36 for kids. While there are some interesting exhibits—like the stingray touch tank, penguins, sea lions, and the butterfly garden—nothing felt particularly spectacular. It’s quite comparable to the NY Aquarium, which charges less. They also charge $12 extra for a small outdoor treetop course, which seemed pretty steep for what you get. The café prices were also surprisingly high. Overall, I’m happy we got to experience it for the first time and at a discounted rate. But at full price, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can easily explore the entire aquarium in about 3 to 4 hours.
Fantastic experience: Nice set ups and alot of different things to do when you bring the kids like a jungle gym slide, not to mention petting sting rays !!
Fantastic experience: It is expensive, but was a lot of fun. The seal show was great, and our toddler had a blast feeding the sting rays. So many different fish, turtles, penguins and sharks to see. Will go back again!
Fantastic experience: Been going here since I was a kid. They haven't changed much, but that's because nothing is wrong with it. It's no ocean world. There's love here for the animals they got in captivity. The otters are so cute.
Positive experience: It's a cute aquarium. Very over priced though. I've been to other aquariums in the tri state area that are cheaper and larger. I went on my birthday week so my ticket was free. They also have a cute butterfly area. It's a nice aquarium, just not worth the price imo.
Positive experience: I had a great experience with my 8-month-old son. Very kids friendly. But definitely seemed outdated. The penguins needed a lot of help. Fish tanks looked dirty and old. It's also annoying that they only had one changing station in each bathroom. There was a line to change diapers.
Positive experience: Went to special mothers day buffet... very very nice.. way better then you'd think.. it was held in the Aquarium Ballroom.. nice selection of breakfast and or lunch. From eggs and bacon, sausage, omelets, hash browns. To salmon, penna Ala vodka , steak . To donuts , cupcakes, coffee... Everything well prepared, and then admission to the Aquarium. Made for a great day.. would watch for their next special event and grab tickets early, you and the kids won't be disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Went on a sunday with the wife. Had a really nice time. Butterfly exhibit was a new experience. Not big, not small, just right for an hour, hour and a half excursion.
Thank you so much for your 5 star review and for sharing that awesome photo! We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Pricey and Small. Kids enjoyed. Definitely could use more attractions, alot of exhibits were closed for some reason.
Thanks so much for leaving a review. We currently only have our Seal habitat under construction (we had to wait for some warm weather to make needed repairs) and the Salt Marsh (still a bit too cold out there). But everything else is open and available for visitors. We're glad your kids enjoyed their time with us and we hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: I came to see the monkeys and was very happy to see they had seals, fish and crabs too
Fantastic experience: Omg the place is magical! For starters, the touch tank for the sting rays is so cute and amazing. You get to touch the ocean friends and pet them. And lets not forget the sefies, the sea lion and penguin photo was so cute. But even more cute was the animals in them. And also they have tons of kinds of fish from big to small and slim to chunky. And my personal favorite part is the butterfly exibit. The get to fly free in the room and other critters are in there to. From the octopus to the iguanuas. And the sharks to the snakes. I highly reccomend the long island aquarium for the whole family!
Fantastic experience: Drove all the way from Queens because we love this place so much. Way better than the one in Coney Island in my opinion. No bratty kids running wild or being too rough at the touch tanks. Super kind staff and the new outdoor playground is amazing. We didn't get to see the new otter pups but we love any excuse to revisit. Icing on the cake was my wife getting in free for her bday (which they honor plus or minus one week)
Fantastic experience: Place always fun to go to. Brought my kids and they had a blast. Went on a week day and other a lot of people. So perfect for a 2o month and 4 year old to look and not run into people
Fantastic experience: An awesome aquarium with a live seal show, sting ray feeding tank and more! Doesn't look like much from the outside but just wait until you get in!
Positive experience: We had such a wonderful time at the aquarium! There were so many interesting exhibits and creatures to see. The shark tank was especially mesmerizing. It was a little disappointing that some areas were closed for renovations. Overall, though, it was a fantastic experience and we'd highly recommend it.
Fantastic experience: Lots of big fish. Totally awesome.
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing time here! The staff was fantastic, and their approach made all the difference. The highlight? This curious seal checking out my friend’s keys! Definitely a memorable experience.
Positive experience: It's a good aquarium the sea lion show and seals are interactive. Staff very friendly. It's a pricey trip and entry ticket since they've expanded beyond only aquarium. The outdoor animals surprised me and the food is pricey. I will for sure go back but look for tickets through my library or birthday visits are free
Fantastic experience: Made a Presidents Day overnite visit, with the grandkids! We enjoyed a two day trip and visit here with our 3 and 5 year old grandson and grand-daughter, they had a wonderful time at the aquarium and the indoor pool really worked out for extra actives.
Thanks so much for your 5 star review! It sounds like you had a Staycation at the Hyatt during the school break. So glad you were able to take advantage of the fun!! We hope you come "sea" us again soon.
Negative experience: A Complete Ripoff – Avoid the Long Island Aquarium at All Costs If you’re looking to burn $100 for absolutely nothing, then by all means, visit the Long Island Aquarium. We made the mistake of going, only to find out that half the attractions were closed due to cold weather—something they conveniently failed to mention before taking our money. For the price we paid, we expected a full experience, not a handful of sad-looking tanks and a few overpriced gift shop trinkets. There was no notice, no discount, and certainly no apology. Instead, we were left wandering through what felt like an abandoned tourist trap, wondering why we had just wasted our time and money. If they can’t operate certain exhibits in colder weather, that’s understandable—but the bare minimum would be to warn guests ahead of time or adjust ticket prices accordingly. Instead, they chose to maximize profit while minimizing customer satisfaction. Save your money and your sanity. The Long Island Aquarium is a blatant cash grab with zero regard for its paying customers. Look elsewhere if you want an experience that’s actually worth your hard-earned money.
Positive experience: A nice place overall, but I’m not sure why patrons are charged full price during the winter, as many animals and exhibits are unavailable.
Positive experience: Beautiful but I think the priceis a bit steep. Its small inside. Especially compared to the Austin Aquarium which is half the price and wayyyy bigger. Also, the penguins looked very lethargic and not happy inside their enclosure. Was kind of concerned about them. They looked sad . Free the penguins.
Fantastic experience: Nice local aquarium with a few distinct species on display. The japanese crab is a champ! Loved the butterfly room, though there only seemed to be about a dozen distinct types hanging around. A bit overpriced as far as aquariums go, but the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. That said, it was well worth our time and money.
Fantastic experience: A pleasure. A time was had and we enjoyed ourselves day here.
Negative experience: Unfortunate experience! My friend & I came. They charge $50 for the majority of the aquariums attractions to be closed due to cold weather: When you first walk in, there’s 1-2 people at the register to pay for the aquarium. Of course, there was a sign at the register that no one was being serviced at that said something along the lines of the “Penguins and (one other thing) is not available due to cold weather”. But let me continue. My friend and I went through the entire place, and it was colder weather, but almost everything was closed. Many indoor attractions said that they were “Under construction” or had *nothing* in it. We went to the outside area, and almost nothing was available to look at, which was not included in their miniature signs at the front of the aquarium. The penguin exhibit was closed, there was no seal show, the pythons weren’t there, the Mining experience wasn’t open, (understandable but) the ice cream area wasn’t open, the Koi Fish pond was 95% frozen over the top layer, so you couldn’t even SEE the fish, a cage in the bird area was empty, and it felt like a ghost town. Next we went to the mini arcade, and for the Shooting Range game, my friend got 83 rounds of bullets on the game, and I only got 20 bullets. No one was there to service us for our issue, so we took the loss. Next, we fed the sting rays. We paid $3 for a total of 4 mini fish to feed the sting rays. My friend said they used to give a large amount of mini fish before Long Island Aquarium was bought out by Northwell Health. Then, we went to the butterfly exhibit, which seemed to have a total of maybe 25 butterflies. I have been to three different butterfly exhibits before, with all of those exhibits having butterflies in every direction, flying all over you. This was super unfortunate. My friend asked “where are all of the butterflies?” to one of the workers, and he proceeded to say that they were in the “process of shipping more butterflies out”. Finally, this was the cherry on top. I felt the need to kindly express that I was dissatisfied with the services of their aquarium. I explained how *I understand* that there is only so much for their aquarium to do when it comes to closing areas due to cold weather but we felt robbed because there is no information advising that nearly 70% of the place is closed, and the fact that there was no butterflies in the exhibit and there is no information posted regarding anything other than the penguins and something else being closed. I told her that the koi fish pond was completely frozen as well as everything else above. This woman tells me that I could have checked their website to see the format of the place, and how the koi fish pond is open. So I told her, even if I called you over the phone to ask if the koi fish pond was open, you would still have told me that the Koi Pond is “open” because you just mentioned to me right now that the pond *is open* and that the “fish are in there!” And she didn’t view this as misleading! Then she said that is correct, and how “the fish are still in the pond”? I told her that’s extremely misleading and even if I were to look at your website and called you, you still would have told me the completely iced over koi pond is “Open”. My friend, as well as my grandfather own a koi pond, and even in low temperatures, they do not have the entire pond frozen over with the fish below it! Long story short, the woman denied my request of a partial refund. I then said, “that’s alright. I know you don’t own the company but I’ll be leaving a 1 star review”, and this woman has the nerve to say, “Okay, I’ll be looking forward to reading it”. That’s unprofessional, in my opinion. I was nothing but respectful with addressing our concerns for the $50 price point we paid and she ended the conversation with that. If we had received a partial refund, I wouldn’t have left this review. In conclusion, there should definitely be a winter discount for most of the place being closed! I’d recommend to stay away from here.
Hi there. Please email me at [email protected]. I'd like to address this personally. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Best forever - I really felt friendly from one lady stuff works in food court-she thought I didn’t have enough money for drinks- she gave me one small cup for drinks -she said :it’s holiday everyone worth —-OMG ! Do you know I been so long time no felt warm heart -she made me even I really don’t want drinks without water- And another is here is best place close ocean and fish-love always around you -I will comeback soon
Fantastic experience: Took my granddaughter there in September! We had the best time and loved the show!! Hats off the the Petrocelli family for this incredible place
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and enjoyable experience, highly recommended to visit this long island gem!
Fantastic experience: A really interesting place, it seems small but they have a lot of areas and tanks to explore a diverse array of fish and sea life. Unfortunately, because we visited in January, some of the outdoor amenities were not available to visit (some were open, but it was too cold to see). One of the most interesting part of the aquarium was the butterfly display. They had many unique and beautiful butterflies flying around in a habitat which was conducive to their needs. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for something to do with either adults or kids.
Fantastic experience: I love this aquarium it’s educational and has so many little things to see! Happy to see another jellyfish added too! (^ν^)
Fantastic experience: My son got married there October 6 it was nothing short of amazing great job
Awww!! Thanks so much for leaving your kind review and posting those lovely photos! Everyone looks so happy, we're so glad to have assisted in making this such a special day! Come "sea" us again soon!
Positive experience: We had a fantastic time bringing my 6-month-old along. I had some tickets from work, so we decided to give it a visit. The sea lion show was enjoyable, and learning about the penguins was interesting. My personal favorites were the fishing cat and the sharks. I just wish the aquarium featured a wider variety of sea life, as it’s somewhat limited in terms of aquatic creatures. However, it’s very well maintained. The butterfly exhibit was also a highlight. Parking costs $12 and is a few blocks away, but I managed to find some free street parking.
Thanks so much for posting your great review and those beautiful photos! We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your visit and we hope to see you again soon.
Positive experience: It has a good mix of indoor and outdoor areas. The stingray pool is great for small kids, also if you're waiting for friends to arrive. Don't miss the seal show. The bubble window in the penguin area is great, but usually gets crowded since no one wants to leave. The food is fine but really expensive for what you get. You can have food outside but not inside, you get free refills for fountain drinks so keep your cup when you're outside if you want a refill. The only issues are the parking and the multiple gift shops as they all sell different items. Since there is no parking at the Aquarium, you'll need to park a few minutes walk at a paid lot. And don't eat at Jerry and the Mermaid.
Thanks so much for your kind review and for posting such cool photos! We're glad you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Honestly an amazing and wonderful experience. Even though there were a a lot of people present you don’t feel it. A lot of hands on interactions available included with admissions, from a touch tank right at the entrance full of sting rays. To feeding of sting rays and koi fish. It was wonderful, peaceful and just an amazing family outing.
Thanks so much for your great review and awesome photos! We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your experience with us and we hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Nice way to spend a couple of hours even if you don't have small children. Quite expensive for admission for 3 adults, especially the food court prices. We enjoyed our visit and walking around on a weekday afternoon.
Thanks so much for your review and for posting those lovely photos. We hope you enjoyed your time with us and visit again soon.
Positive experience: I just want to start off by saying my son loves the aquarium. Loves fish. Loves going to new aquariums. When we don’t wanna drive hours away this is our main one. Today 8/28/2024 we decided to do snorkeling for the first time ever. My SON loved it. Just wanna say Gabby the life guard (we did the 2pm session) was such an understanding, beautiful, patient girl and definitely made the experience so much easier. I just wish online was more knowledgeable or maybe I just didn’t see it. THEY do provide life vest, they do provide snorkel gears and towels which I didn’t know and ended up spending $40 at the shop because the girl who was working there said no they don’t provide it that we have to buy itYou can bring your own bathing suit and any other gear from home if u Want but again they do provide it. If your child needs a vest then best believe you will need to pay an extra $42 for yourself to help them thru the water. It starts at 4 feet and then Goes to 6ft then 8ft. definitely a cool experience right here on Long Island. Session is 45 mins long. Not mad about it, will definitely come back next year as we now know what they provide and what we need to do prior to arriving. Money comes and goes but he won’t be 7 snorkeling again
Thank you so much for leaving your review. I'm so sorry there was some miscommunication. During Covid we temporarily stopped offering the snorkel tube (which isn't really necessary) but did have them available for purchase. Most kids don't like using the snorkel, but everyone needs the goggles and towels and we do offer them for use. I'm not sure why the staff member wasn't aware of that. We don't have life vests for use at the Snorkel adventure (you can bring your own), but we do have noodles anyone can use. I'm so glad you enjoyed the experience and we hope to see you in the Shark Reef Lagoon next summer!
Fantastic experience: Very spacious, many different varieties of things to look at, butterfly exhibit, seals, fish, big sharks etc... Worth the price. Get reduced tickets at library.
Thanks so much for your review and beautiful photos. We hope to "sea" you again soon!
Positive experience: Fun little aquarium; the staff is friendly (maybe they are all high school students). The ticket is a bit pricy: $49 for adult and $35 for kid
Thanks so much for leaving your review and those great photos. We hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: the aquarium is beautiful with lots of things to do, we all loved the salt marsh and the butterflies. I am not sure if others on this list go to the bronx zoo or ny aquarium but you have to pay to park at those facilities and it costs about the same to get in any recreational place. there are tanks where the kids can touch animals and wonderful shows. If you enjoy animals it is a must see on Long Island. My girls especially loved the swim with the mermaids and boat tour! So awesome
Thanks so much for posting your 5 star review and those beautiful photos! We hope to "sea" you all again soon.
Positive experience: This was a nice experience for a change. The prices are a bit high for what is offered in general admission. All the add ons I think would it make it worthwhile but I feel like general admission should at least allow some time in the playground area or another thing. Would like to go back one more time for the drive and local seafood eateries.
Thank you so much for your kind review and lovely photos! We hope to "sea" you again soon!
Positive experience: The aquarium was nice. The best show is the sea lions. It costs extra to park. Inside there is very little marking to give you directions on where to find anything. There are maps posted but not helpful if there are no buildings signs. The other exhibits.are just okay. They had a butterfly exhibit and that was nice. The butterfly are flying all around you and even land on you.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review and post those great photos! We're glad you enjoyed your time with us, particularly the sea lion show and butterfly garden and hope to see you again.
Positive experience: Overall great experiance, exhibits are amazing and the animals are entertaining. Wish parking was not additional $12, few blocks away and the entrance for 2 adults and child over $100 plus, food over $75 including waters for outdoor walking, small gifts over $20. Adds up fast, wish was a little more reasonable.
Thank you for visiting us and for leaving your kind review. Just so you know, we are part of the Riverhead parking district, which means we don't have our own parking, our guests must use the municipal lots around town. We do rent a lot down the street that we must charge for (as we must pay for that space), but we do offer a free shuttle to take guests to and from the aquarium and paid lot. We're also privately owned, so we don't get government funding or large-scale sponsors, so we rely on our guests like you to help us care for our animals. Every dollar you spend with us goes to giving our animals the best possible food, medical care and habitat maintenance. So thank you, so much, for your contribution to their care! We really appreciate it!
Fantastic experience: There is so much to do there. Admission is very fair as it will take the whole day and more to see and do all they have. We had a fun and exciting day. A great learning experience.
Thank you so much for your great review and photos! We're so glad you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again soon.
Positive experience: Honestly, the LIA was very fun. They have a lot of interactive exhibits perfect for little kids. You can pet the stingrays, and they have a whole touch tank further into the aquarium. Outside they even have a place to walk with some crabs. Very fun and interactive. The seal show was amazing, and fun way to get a break and sit down for a bit. Overall, it was enjoyable. The butterfly room was also nice. Spent around 3 hours there, you could do more if you stayed to do interactive shows but not necessary. 3 stars because it is +$50, and parking is additional cost ($12!) a few blocks away. Tickets are cheaper by a few dollars if you order online. At least it was a comfortable temperature inside. The seal show was outside at noon with limited shade so you do get hot pretty fast. Was moderately busy, but did come on a rainy Saturday. Work recommend a different time but I didn’t think it ruined the experience.
Thanks so much for leaving your review. It did seem that you enjoyed your visit and we're glad that you did! We hope you come visit again soon.
Positive experience: We went and received one free entry for my son's bday. My ticket was $52. Parking was 2 blocks away for $12. But I suspect there was cheaper nearby municipal parking. We just didn't know the area well enough to look for it. Overall, we had a good visit when we went with the bday discount. We stayed for 2 hours and looked at the exhibits twice. There really was no need to spend more than 2 hours there. Butterfly room was nice. Very crowded on a Friday morning with so many kids from summer camps.
Thanks so much for leaving your nice review and beautiful photos. We're so happy you spent your son's birthday with us and we hope to see you all again soon.
Fantastic experience: My family loved this aquarium. The shark feeding was fun to watch. Free admission for my wife because it was within a week of her birthday. Butterfly exhibit was the most memorable for my daughters and totally unexpected at an aquarium.
Thank you so much for leaving such a great review. We're so glad you were able to celebrate your wife's birthday with us and hope to see you all again soon! Great photo too!!
Positive experience: Bring your wallet. Expensive but kids enjoyed the sea lion show and I do recommend the boat ride to the private island. Even though it is an additional cost from the admission price, the guide Sydney was very informative and engaged the children of all ages on the boat. Very enjoyable. Lunch also is expensive and slushee machine was not working properly on a hot day. Plan to walk a few blocks from the parking lot to the entrance
Fantastic experience: It was better than I remember from when I came as a teenager. My toddler loved the outdoor section where we could get in the water with the crabs and the tree play area.
Thank you so much for your review! We're so happy to have grown with you and to see you come back with your own pups! We hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: A little pricey but worth every penny, especially for young children. The seal and penguin shows are included and were fun as well as educational.
Thanks so much for your great review! We hope to "sea" you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Huge variety to see from butterflies, to insects, to reptiles, and all things aquatic. Hand feeding the rays was a real treat!
Thank you so much for your great review and photos! You got some really good shots of the eels (they like to hide)!! We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit! Plenty to see , sharks, seals, otters , penguins my favorite ! The butterfly area was really nice , the seal show too . Also a nice boat ride on the Peconic Overall perfect Family Day !
Thank you so much for leaving your great review and beautiful photos. We're so happy you chose us when looking to spend quality family time. We hope you come visit again soon.
Positive experience: My three-year old girl did really enjoy her time there, as it has variety of fishes and different size of sharks, and has a booth where children can touch a live horseshoe crab. And also live penguins and seals. The food, while it tasted fine, was quite expensive so it would be better to eat before or after, considering the fact that the ticket price is quite expensive (it would have cost more than $100 for three had I not had DD-214 (that gave us about $80 in total). I will probably go there again with my daughter, but not more than once a year. P.S: I really appreciate and was touched by a young man who worked at the counter and processed my payment, as he said, “Thank you for your service” after I showed my DD-214.
Thank you for your kind review and lovely photos. We're also glad you were able to use the Military discount for your admission. Please note, we do offer specialty pricing on Veterans Day and Memorial Day for our service members and their families. We hope to see you again soon and are so thankful to you, for your service!
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful time with the family. Every fish/ animal is placed according to a theme.
Thank you so much for your kind words and amazing photos! We're so glad you and your family enjoyed spending time with us and we hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Too little to see For the price $50 dollars for adults and 40 for kids and so many attractions are closed for season. On top of that the attraction in picture is not included $12 more For of season prices have to be adjusted in my opinion specially if the attractions are closed for the season
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are a privately owned facility, so every dollar your spend with us goes to giving the best care, medications, food, enrichment and habitat maintenance to all of our animals. So we thank you so much for your contribution to their care! Regarding the Eye Opener playground, we charge and staff it when it is busy to help keep an eye on things. Sometimes little ones get a little rambunctious and it helps to have a staff member on hand when it is very busy. We hope you understand and visit again soon.
Negative experience: I didn’t hate it or love it but it’s definitely not worth the $50 entrance. The sea lion show was okay. The butterfly area was also oky nothing special. The monkeys were nowhere to be found. Finished in 3 hours.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We want you to know that 100% of the money you spend goes directly to the care of our animals and their habitats, we are privately owned and do not get any type of funding or discounts to keep our operations going. Our Butterflies, Bugs & Bees habitat is actually one of the largest living insect zoos in North America, so we think it's pretty special! Our snow monkey does have a large habitat and access to his inside area, so he may have just not been visible, while our marmosets are so tiny and have lots of little areas in their habitat, you may have just missed noticing them as well! Glad you liked the sea lion show!
Fantastic experience: Cute place, it's small but tons to see. And just when you done you have seen everything there always more. It's worth checking out!. And includes the butterfly room too.
Thank you so much for your great review and those amazing photos! We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Amazing place! Highly recommend to each & everyone whatever age & size. There's shows, so much hands on activities. Great for all the senses to be aroused. My favorite part and only reason I went was for the butterflies. Great butterfly conservatory that's open year round... that's phenomenal. Highly recommend. The sting rays you can touch and see up close and personal. The sea lions, penguins, monkeys, and ottors are amazing as well & up close and personal. There's a rescue owl here, lavender brown. If you love nature, this is the place for you and your loved ones. there's a cafe here! there's a gift shop The staff are all informative & courteous. there's many events here that take place.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for posting such great photos! We appreciate you sharing your experience and we're so happy you enjoyed your visit with us. We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: The best aquarium in New York. (Personal opinion) Absolutely loved the experience. The staff was kind and educational. Indoor and outdoor was exceptionally clean. Well kept and very welcoming. 10/10
Thank you so much for your great review and kind words. We appreciate it and hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit. Lots of things to see and experience. You can also feed the stingrays, turtles and fishes.
Thank you so much for your 5 star review! We're so glad you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: A nice place to visit with family and friends. The butterfly section is very interesting and is like you are in the wild along with these creatures. A bit expensive.
Thank you so much for your kind review! We hope to "sea" you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Love this place, I always have such a good time here. I love the events they hold here. I went to the 2017 Halloween masquerade ball and had a great time. I went just last week with my friends and their baby and we had a really good time and the baby loved the sharks.
Thank you so much for your great review and for posting that adorable photo! We're so happy you have enjoyed your time visiting the aquarium as well as attending our events! We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: I recently visited the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead, and it was a mixed experience. There were various captivating exhibits to explore, with the highlight being the stunning butterfly exhibit that's a must-see. However, my visit was marred by the fact that several exhibits were closed, possibly due to ongoing development or arriving too early. One disappointment was the high cost of food, as I paid a hefty $21 for a grilled chicken sandwich that was mostly filled with lettuce and a side of sweet potato fries. On the positive side, despite the setbacks, the overall experience was enjoyable and fun (I'll update this review in the upcoming days, but I'll leave it like this for the time being so I don't forget to review it).
Thanks so much for leaving your review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit and our habitats. We currently only have one habitat under construction, so not sure what was closed. Unfortunately our food costs have also gone up and we had no choice but to raise our Cafe prices. We do have a lot of options in the Cafe, so we hope our guests can all find something they enjoy and are comfortable paying for. We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: The aquarium has a wide variety of see flora and fauna which is great! You can touch rays, horseshoe crabs and even feed them. They have photoshooting with sea lions. It was disappointing as they said children are welcome but only after we paid were we said that children under 7 can not go near the animals therefore we paid for nothing. Anyway it is 22 bucks for 1 ( one ) photo taken.
Thank you for your review, we're glad you enjoyed our habitats. Just to clarify with our Sea Lion Selfie program, children are welcome, but must be over 7 years old to stand next to the sea lion (this age requirement is listed on the website and the promotional flyer). This rule is for safety reasons. Our large male sea lion weighs approximately 400 pounds. Some children can be unpredictable. It is for the safety of the child as well as our animals to make sure an adult or even an older child is immediately next to the sea lion during this adventure to ensure everyone's safety. We hope you understand.
Positive experience: Nice aquarium but definitely not worth $90 for 2 people and on top of that the interactive exhibits were another $30 or so a person. Toured the whole place in less than an hr
Thank you for your review and for visiting. We're sorry you felt the experience was not worth the price, please know every dollar spent with us goes to giving our animals the best possible care. So thank you for your contribution. We find some guests can go through the aquarium rather quickly, but we invite all of our guests to slow down and enjoy the tranquility of the habitats.
Fantastic experience: I went today for the second time and had an even better time than the first! I really enjoyed the touch tanks and other areas where I could interact with the animals such as feeding the rays and wading through the “Peconic Estuary”. I also enjoyed watching the sea lion show! The food court is a bit pricey for my taste but the food is good and the portions are solid. Would recommend to anyone looking for something to do!
Thank you so much for your great review and for posting the photos! We're so glad you enjoyed both visits with us and hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: It is a nice place to go to once. I am not trying to put the place down, but I am not the biggest aquarium person. I went twice so far. Once recently, and once as a child. I would go back every few years just because it is a “place from my childhood”. That being said, the kids love it anyway. So definitely come make a visit.
Thanks so much for your review! We hope to "sea" you again soon!
Positive experience: This was a great little aquarium! I definitely recommend visiting if you are visiting Long Island or live here. There were "extra" animals too--there were two snakes, some lizards, and a great butterfly room! Make sure you visit the butterflies! I only take off one star because the price (about $45 for an adult) is a bit steep in relation to the facility. Still, I can understand that price, as I doubt that the aquarium gets much business from tourists. All in all, I would recommend visiting if you're in the area!
Thanks so much for your kind review and for visiting! Come "sea" us again soon!
Fantastic experience: Great place. A little pricey even for seniors but well worth it! There's something for everyone. I especially liked the butterfly exhibit where the butterflies fly about the room landing on shrubbery people and benches. It's a sight to behold!
Thank you so much for leaving your kind review and beautiful photos! We hope you come visit again, try our Butterfly Garden in the winter when it's tropical inside but cold outside. Don't miss our Senior Thursday program...seniors get half price admission on Thursdays from September through May (holidays excluded).
Fantastic experience: It is a very beautiful place, with a great setting and a wide exhibition of marine species, nice for children over 3 years old, young people and adults ... The bathrooms are comfortable, the employees are very friendly, the games area needs to fix some machines The food is expensive for potatoes and hamburgers. They should have cheaper options. I recommend you read the menu before eating the food, it is on the top of the cash register
Fantastic experience: This place was wonderful! There’s so much to do for little ones and big ones!! I’m hope you have as a good a time as we did!
Fantastic experience: Loved it! Great experience. We have been going to this aquarium since it opened and it gets better each time, even though it's become a little pricey. Still worth the visit!
Thank you so much for your kind words and terrific photos. We're so happy you've been visiting since the beginning and hope to see you and your family again soon!
Positive experience: Fish and animals, bugs and butterflies. A fun spot to take the kids. Parking costs money and gets crowded. Out of season is still a lot of fun. Check your library to discount tickets. Price is high with lots of ways to get higher as you add on other things. It is almost too expensive now. And way too expensive to visit often.
Thank you for your review and for posting such nice photos! Sounds like a membership might be a better option for repeat visits...it pays for itself in just 2 visits. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: This place is always a fun time! Its great for bringing a date or taking the family! The sea lion show is a definite highlight! My kids also loved the sting ray petting pool!
Thank you so much for your review and terrific photos! We're so glad you and your family enjoy visiting us and we hope to "sea" you again soon!
Fantastic experience: It was so much fun!! You get to see so many different fish and animals and my favorite part was looking at the sharks!!!!
Fantastic experience: Title: A Stellar Visit to the Long Island Aquarium Review: Our recent visit to the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead, NY, turned out to be an unforgettable experience, far exceeding our expectations for a typical summer outing. Despite the scorching July heat, the well-planned exhibits, informative talks, and engaging live sea lion shows captivated us throughout our journey. The staff was friendly, courteous, and unmistakably professional when we entered. Kudos to their well-maintained uniforms and their evident enthusiasm for the roles they play. Each staff member we encountered was well-versed with the specific marine life area they were assigned and was more than willing to engage with our curiosities. The aquarium design and decor are immersive, plunging you into the underwater realm with its intelligent, aquatic-themed set-up. We were particularly impressed with the myriad species of marine life on display, a testament to the aquarium's biodiversity, which houses over 10,000 creatures ranging from the fascinating sharks to the adorable penguins. Educational talks and informative sessions dotted our day, making it more than a visual treat. The live sea lion show was a standout experience, a perfect blend of entertainment and education, with trainers showcasing the skills of these intelligent mammals and emphasizing their conservation needs. We took a whimsical detour to the butterfly exhibit, where observing the butterflies feeding on fruits was a colorful spectacle that added a delightful dimension to our marine exploration. One must note the carefully crafted exhibits that the aquarium houses. The coral reef and touch tank were favorites, bringing us closer to the vibrant underwater life. With its close-to-natural arctic environment set-up, the penguin exhibit was another star attraction, allowing us to observe these playful birds in an environment designed to mimic their natural habitat. The Long Island Aquarium has done a commendable job of marrying education with entertainment. Their commitment to creating awareness about marine life conservation and providing a safe, engaging, and family-friendly environment shines through in every corner. While the pricing could be on the higher end and lines can be longer on busy weekends, the overall experience provided by the Long Island Aquarium more than compensates for these minor inconveniences. This 12-acre haven is a must-visit for anyone with a love for marine life, a curious mind, or simply looking for a memorable family day out. The aquarium is a testament to what can be achieved when entertainment combines education and a keen sense of responsibility toward our marine ecosystems. Our experience at the Long Island Aquarium was not just another summer day outing; it was a journey into the aquatic world that left us inspired and eager to return. The Long Island Aquarium is a treasure trove of marine life, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking an immersive, enlightening, and enjoyable experience. Don't miss the live shows and participate in the educational programs. Our day was an unforgettable blend of learning, exploration, and fun, and we can't wait for our next visit!
Thank you so much for writing such a thoughtful review and posting such lovely photos! We really appreciate you taking the time to write this as it does help other potential guests. Thank you so much and we hope to see you again soon.
