Toledo Zoo Aquarium

Positive experience: Lots of anim a ls to see. You are able to feed giraffes and some other animals for s small fee. Zip line is over some of the animals. Reptile area closed for 2025 but looking forward to it in 2026.

Fantastic experience: We visited on a Monday in mid-April 2025. We visited this after just visiting the Natural History Museum building and we did that in the wrong order. While the aquarium is very nice it just doesn't come close to the natural history museum. Kids had fun going around and looking at everything. We spent over 30 mins in here but went through a bit quick because we had spent too much time in the natural history museum and were trying to make up some time. There are some nice photo spots in the aquarium so make sure to stop and take photos. We also noticed that there were items in this little shop at the end that was not available at the main store at the front of the zoo. Unfortunately there was a problem with the register here and the line was super long so we figured we'd just pick it up on the way out at the bigger store BUT it turned out the bigger store didn't have the item that we wanted and we were not about to walk all the way back for it. So if you see something you like, get it and don't wait thinking you'll pick it up later. If we were at the zoo anyways, we would visit the aquarium again. I can imagine on a warmer day, it would be a great opportunity to get out of the sun and into an air conditioned space.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful aquarium, you could spend a whole afternoon in there!

Negative experience: It was okay. Small enclosures compared to other zoos I've visited. Everything costs extra. Want to see zebras or giraffes? Well you can use binoculars or pay to zip glide over there... Otherwise you won't see much! It was nice to get free entrance on mother's Day, but other then that it was just a money grab. ( Way worse then other places ) Probably will never come back.

Positive experience: It's probably better in the late spring earlier summer when everything's up and running There was a lot of construction. Mostly clean well-kept. The aquarium was very nice, avoid a flash on the camera. The tigers were looking good.

Fantastic experience: I always love coming to the aquarium! I can't believe it's already been 10 years since the remodel. It's such a beautiful space, and so well designed. I love the touch-tank and the separate space for the "flashlight" fish.

Fantastic experience: It was very busy while we were there, but we visited during the lights at Christmas so it was expected. It was hard to navigate a little with our stroller, but that was just because of the crowd. Facility is great.

Fantastic experience: Didn’t see this coming Just a hop skip and jump from Detroit, this is by far the best zoo around. So many attractions and other things to do. They even have frozen Jack Daniels slushes for us adults out here. We went around the middle of October and boy what treat Great exercise and great site seeing. Fantastic experience: This is a great zoo. We were able to take the grandkids on the younger kids pumpkin path. They enjoyed dressing up and then trick or teasing around the zoo. All while taking in the animals and the carousel and train. Ember week was staffed and organized. The kids loved it!!

Fantastic experience: We bought a membership and have been twice. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, answering kids' questions in a way they can understand but don't sugar coat it. It's open year round although many buildings are closed in cold months. We usually spend 3 to 4 hours there.

Fantastic experience: My family really enjoyed this Zoo

Negative experience: We recently purchased a family pass, spending over $200 at the zoo altogether, and were looking forward to a fun day at the zoo. Unfortunately, within 15 minutes of arriving, the experience took a negative turn. A staff member, who appeared to be young and recently hired, aggressively yelled at my kids for simply leaning on a tree. Rather than approach the situation calmly, he shouted across the grass, puffed up his chest, and acted hostile towards me—right in front of my family. I understand the need to protect the park’s environment, but this level of aggression was completely uncalled for, especially in a family-friendly space. My kids were upset by the confrontation, and it almost ruined what should have been an enjoyable day. It's disappointing to encounter such behavior from someone representing the zoo. We love the zoo itself, but I hope management takes steps to address this situation and ensures that staff are properly trained to handle interactions with visitors in a respectful manner. If someone reaches out to resolve this issue, I’d be happy to update my review.

Fantastic experience: Amazing place you actually get to touch stingrays in the tanks. Awesome time with the kids. Amazing always. Always recommend getting the season pass It's almost as much as going independently for a day with the kiddos!

Fantastic experience: Decided to jump into the car and drive to Toledo Zoo. Well worth the drive from Butler PA. Very nice Zoo and very clean. The staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: First time visitor and now a lifelong fan! Took my niece and sister to the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium for the first time ever on Labor Day weekend and we had an awesome time. We arrived at the zoo around noon and were comfortably able to see everything we wanted to (at a somewhat leisurely pace) by closing at 5. The zoo was incredibly clean and well-kept, and the layout of the grounds made it easy to navigate as a first-time visitor. My niece really enjoyed the Natural History Museum that is also on the grounds, and I appreciated how the historic architecture was incorporated into the overall design - so there's a little something for everyone. Pricing was comparable to what you'd expect to pay at a zoo these days, and they had a ton of quality food items. Overall, I would highly recommend the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium. I definitely plan to come back soon with other friends and family!

Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed coming to the Toledo zoo. Lots to do for the kiddos and the adults. Maybe just a hair better than the Detroit Zoo (I love the Detroit Zoo!). Make the trek! It was worth it!

Fantastic experience: Went to the Toledo Zoo this past weekend and had a blast! Can't say I'm a fan of the new metal detectors at the gate and bag checks, but it is what it is I guess. Employees were helpful per usual just wish more were scheduled at the concessions so the lines weren't so long. Love the new turtle pond by the butterfly house. Been a member for probably a decade and will continue on for the foreseeable future!

Fantastic experience: Always a treat to go to the Toledo Zoo, can never get enough of this place! Plus, there's always changes to their activities, schedules, and monthly specials. The aquarium is especially well built for the masses (great working AC for hot summers), immersive experiences for the kids and great platforms to take pictures with the fish (see pictures). We even got to see the baby elephant being very active and playful, and there's even a baby orangutan swinging about! My pictures are just the top of the iceberg - Just go and see for yourself! Warning for the budget enthusiast: food is about $9 for ONE hotdog, so fill up before you go!

Fantastic experience: Today we celebrated our daughter's 6th birthday here and we had a blast! Our catering staff member Melissa did an awesome job hosting and making this one of the most memorable birthdays Ever! Having a party here was totally worth the price.Thank you Toledo Zoo and Melissa!

Positive experience: What you expect from a zoo in a city of this size. It was close to 90 out but the majority of the animals were up and walking around. The mustache monkeys and the baby elephant were my favorites.

Fantastic experience: Because of Dodge the Kodiak bear I quickly realized I am not the apex predator when backpacking in the Kodiak island. The genius of the Toledo zoo to have a sand box right in front of the bear exhibit window made a hole lot of since...use the little kids to draw in the bear. Oh and the giraffe love right in front of my kids....birds and the bees quickly switched to giraffe wrestling.

Fantastic experience: The Toledo Zoo is outstanding! We hadn't visited in years so decided to get a membership again and visit with teenagers. They made major improvements to the Museum and it is great! Love the snakes and reptiles upstairs! We will definitely be getting use of our membership! So much to do close to home.

Fantastic experience: Great zoo- best around in my opinion!

Positive experience: Lots of food vendors were closed. Not sure if it was due to staff shortage or the fact that it was 92 degrees and they anticipated less guests. Staff was friendly except for the woman at the giraffe porch. I get that you don't want people to experience a giraffe up close unless they pay 6 bucks to feed it, but she didn't have to be rude about it. Anyways, we got a pretty good photo of the giraffe that was indoors. Also, there is no real benefit to buying tickets on line, because you still have to go to the ticket booth to pay for your parking.

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing. I've been to the Detroit Zoo many times, but this is so much better. The weather wasn't the best and it was in early May --- so we had the place all to ourselves! However, even in a packed environment, I'm driving the extra 45min-hour more for Toledo Zoo. The main reason.. the animals are sooo close. There were only a few that you could barely see. Toledo Zoo is a must.

Fantastic experience: Gosh we LOVE it here! We're from michigan and travel to this zoo when we feel like having a zoo trip! We bought the membership because after 2 visits it pays for its self!! They have a bistro in the zoo with amazing drinks and food! This zoo is one you HAVE TO visit!! Be prepared for atleast 3 hours of walking. Plus add more time for the super cool playground and water park!

Fantastic experience: We snoozed at the zoo with our Cubscout troop and had a great time! The staff was attentive and full of knowledge to field the many questions the scouts threw at them. We were able to get some special one on one time with various animals, including getting a special visit watching the new baby elephant! The scouts really enjoyed the activities planned, including making special enrichment treats that they were able watch the tigers enjoy the next day. Overall it was a great trip and we would do it again!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely gorgeous. First time here and it did not disappoint. The animals were so active, and the enclosures were stunning. Touch pools with starfish, rays, and more. Beautiful anemone and coral. The art around the displays were also just lovely. Normally I wouldn't include this, but I would like to say they have probably some of the best public restrooms I have ever used.

Fantastic experience: The only thing I could ask for the price it would be a little bit more interaction with the zookeepers. Their job is amazing and they do amazing job but the public just needs more information about the animals that they have showcased so that's all I ask. Other than that, the zoo was amazing and I highly recommend seeing the animals in the atmosphere and going and making their own experience and memories. The costs are affordable so it's not just a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful set up. I like their 90,000 gallon tropical tank with sharks. I also love their sea turtle. I guess the sea turtle was in an accident before coming to the zoo and floats now. Its cute and nice that the turtle has a home

Fantastic experience: We love our Zoo. We Are Lucas County residents so we go on Mondays before noon for free day. We love visiting all the animals and getting snacks or even having a picnic at the zoo. My daughter loves the playground area and the splash pad.

Positive experience: One of the best zoos I have visited. We had a blast for my sons birthday! My only complaint is they should not be charging full price for entry in the early spring. Not all exhibits we're open, as well as all the food options and other buildings with attractions.

Fantastic experience: Amazing! Would totally go again. They have a giraffe feeding experience that is only 5 dollars for a few pieces of lettuce. We took about 4 hours walking around the whole place and saw some animals that aren't at other zoos. We live closer to the Detroit zoo and choose to come to this one. Much better place. If you plan on coming two or more times for the summer a membership would be worth it.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful exhibits with happy, healthy animals. Loads of educational material. My partner and I spent a couple hours in the aquarium taking in every detail. I still look back at the pictures and videos and can't believe how beautiful it was! Really looking forward to going again.

Fantastic experience: The Aquarium was wonderful! Looking at the fish life was amazing. There's some areas that allow children to touch the fish , starfish, baby sharks , stingrays and many other sea creatures. The part that was truly a site to watch was the jellyfish swimming back and forth. The blue background and the orange color of the jellyfish made it just breath taken (see for yourself look at the pictures). Walking through the Aquarium is a peace of mind kind of moment. There are areas that you can sit and watch the fishes swim. The children enjoyed their time and couldn't stop talking about what all they had seen. By the end of the day, the ride home was quiet due to them having sweet dreams of all they had seen that day.

Fantastic experience: Toledo really has a top notch zoo. It is laid out very well. Loved all of the animal exhibits. The zoo is very clean, and the bathrooms are very well kept up on. All of the Staff members that we encountered were very Friendly and helpful. We also loved how awesome the aquarium was. Today was my Daughter's first time going to the zoo, and she had a great time. We bought a year pass, so we can't wait to come back and enjoy ourselves again!

Fantastic experience: This was our first time here and it was amazing! Pretty sure we didn't get to see ot all because of the amount of time we had but we liked it because you can actually get closer to the windows to see the animals compared to some other zoos and the aquarium with the sharks in it was really cool to see.

Fantastic experience: This place is great! I love the part that you walk above the sharks. I had read how this place is kind of small, but if you take your time, and look at everything they have it does not seem small at all. I want to go again soon.

Positive experience: I grew up going exclusively to the Omaha zoo and I have to say, the Toledo zoo is a gem!! I was pleasantly surprised by how fun and well thought-out this zoo was. It did not disappoint, and the outdoor exhibits are well-shaded and well-kept. Such a fun experience! I did take off one star, because even though we brought water bottles, it was 80+ degrees and hot when we went (April 23rd) but there was only ONE functioning water fountain, at the end of the aquarium, which was backed up with a long line of other families also waiting to refill bottles for the whole family like we were. All of the rest of them that we found were shut off still. We asked staff, who informed us they were all shut off. We did not bring money to pay for $4-5 water, and that meant you would have to cross the whole zoo (and the highway) just to get water on a day hot enough to get heat exhaustion. That said, my two toddler girls loved the experience and so did my husband and I. You can easily spend a whole day here and not have enough time to explore everything thoroughly. The old architecture is absolutely beautiful, very much giving the whole zoo an “early 20th century naturalist” feel. A few of our favorite things were the aviary, otters and red pandas (sooo cute!) and the collection of curiosities room upstairs in the Museum of Natural History. We spent almost an hour there alone, checking the many drawers and feeling various exotic animal furs and skins. We have a family zoo membership and hope to keep one for many years! It’s SOOO worth the money!!

Positive experience: We took our 14 month old, we enjoyed it and really liked the Museum of Science they had. The aquarium was small but we still liked it and it was beautiful. The animals were lazy but the ones that did move around and let us see them were beautiful. I didn't see much food stands or places to eat but we weren't really going out of our way to find them either. I know there was a couple, just not as much as before the pandemic. The zoo is closed on Tuesdays for deep cleaning and they usually close at 4pm or 5pm depending on the day, so definitely plan for a afternoon visit. You pay for parking when you buy your ticket (either online or when you walk into the zoo). The zoo isn't too big so it's easily walked in a few hours depending on how long you want to talk looking at everything, it's a nice place to take the family for the day.

Positive experience: Loved it! Although at the touch tank they need clearer rules because some patrons took more than their fair share time to observe the tank, causing other patrons to not enjoy the experience fully. Otherwise, beautiful exhibit!

Positive experience: The Toledo Zoo Aquarium is a wonderful place to visit. For us, it was cool oasis on a hot day. The exhibits are wonderful and there is a great mixture of aquatic animals. I would say it lacks an exhibit that takes your breath away, but overall enjoyable and a good solid zoo aquarium.

Fantastic experience: The aquarium is included in the general admission for the Toledo Zoo and is inside of the zoo. Really cool and fun aquarium! Better than Sealife.

Positive experience: Zoo was a little small compared to the Columbus one but all in all a decent zoo. Grounds were clean and most of the animals were out and engaging. Very small gift shops throught but the main one was closed because of covid. Anything food or refreshments was very crowded and the selection was about the same through all of the small food stalls.
