Positive experience: Arriving here on a cloudy day, it felt a little deserted and dreary. However, there were many people cycling and running, which brought a sense of life to the place. These looked like a good place for sea fishing.

Fantastic experience: This is a good place to take a break and have a meal while driving along the west coast line. The location is like an island, you feel you're out of crowd of city. The parking is free, if you can find a spot. The restaurant is good, both service and food. The sea view makes you feel very relaxing when eating outside. Strongly recommended to drop by .

Fantastic experience: It was Beautiful!! Everyone was very Friendly ☺️ The ocean view was EVERYTHING!

Fantastic experience: It’s a nice place - it’s fairly touristic but a bit more authentic and less vulgar than a lot of other similar piers

Positive experience: Beautiful California sunny afternoon to take a long walk by the wharf and enjoy the views and people watching . Certainly a place I would come back when in town on my next visit . Only observation and slight complain would be the amount of cars trying to come on to the wharf on a wooden paved single pass road. I think the city should limit or perhaps even ban cars for the pedestrians have a clear path without having to maneuver through cars

Fantastic experience: Stearns Wharf of Santa Barbara is an historic destination that may be one of the most famous of piers on the California coast! The present day pier has been reconstructed since the original commercial wharf was developed in 1872 by John P. Stearns, with funding help from W. W. Hollister. Unlike other piers down the coast, this one is geared up for visitors, with signage, exhibits, memorabilia,, gift shops, restaurants, boat rides and of course restrooms. I enjoyed the views of the calm ocean as well as the overview looking back towards land. It seemed as tho wherever I stopped to take pictures, other visitors were also taking in the scene beside me! There’s easy access off the end of State Street, where public parking’s available. I found free street parking just south of the pier. There’s also more secure paid parking areas within walking distance. The pier is compatible with handicap access and convenience.

Fantastic experience: I loved the "pier". I found interesting the sound when you drive on it. The sea aquarium is really interesting and educational. We have spent a few hours in the aquarium and on the pier. The food was also good. I ordered lobster roll and the calamari sandwich looks amazing!!

Fantastic experience: One of the must-visit places in Santa Barbara is Stearns Wharf. You can drive right onto the pier, and there's parking available. On the pier, you can try fresh seafood in local restaurants. It offers a stunning view of the ocean and the city - perfect for a walk and photos.

Fantastic experience: It was really fun. A fisherman caut an octopus and let people hold it. It was a great environment. There is a lot of culture. You can go to a variety of sea food restaurants. There are good vibes with all the music playing.

Fantastic experience: Stearns Wharf was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the ocean. The sky lit up with beautiful colors, creating a picture-perfect moment. The cold ocean breeze added to the experience, making it feel peaceful and refreshing. Walking along the pier, we soaked in the relaxed coastal vibes, watched the waves, and enjoyed the serene atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a casual stroll, seafood, or just to take in the views, it’s a must-visit spot in Santa Barbara. A simple yet unforgettable experience—especially at sunset!

Fantastic experience: Free parking for 90m. We like the restaurant at the end of the pier. Several knick knack stores.

Reyna R 6 months ago

Positive experience: Would be a five out of five if the parking was easier but it’s understandable. Definitely a great place to spend a sunny afternoon.

Dain Vossar (ReviewJedi) 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Arriving at Stearns Wharf as the sun descended beyond the horizon, I found myself drawn to the ebb and flow of the tide, a symphony of nature that even the most disciplined Jedi could appreciate. The sky, ablaze with hues of fire and gold, mirrored the balance between light and dark—reminding me that all things must find harmony. The air carried the scent of salt and adventure, whispering stories of travelers past. As the waves kissed the wooden pillars below, I stood in quiet meditation, feeling the energy of the ocean beneath my feet. Here, one does not simply watch the sunset—one communes with it. For those seeking more than contemplation, the wharf offers fine establishments where one may indulge in nourishment and acquire treasures. Shops and restaurants along the pier, welcoming wanderers of all kinds. And if the fates allow, the Museum of Natural History Sea Center opens its doors to those eager to learn the secrets of the deep. A place of knowledge, it is—worthy of any Jedi’s curiosity. A unique experience, driving upon the pier is. As your transport glides over the wooden planks, the rhythmic clickity-clack beneath you echoes like the pulse of the Force itself—a connection to times past, when travelers journeyed not by starship, but by wooden vessels upon the sea. The price to park is fair, with the first 90 minutes granted freely—generous, indeed. Beyond that, a mere $4 credits per hour ensures one may linger without concern. If ever your path leads you to this sacred place, pause. Breathe. Observe. For even the most powerful Jedi must take a moment to admire the wonders of the galaxy. Stearns Wharf—strong with the Force, it is.

Fantastic experience: Free parking on the pier for under 2 hours is ridiculous. I was amazed when seeing this and we enjoyed the food and walking around as the waves went by. You can't beat this view, it really is special.

Bernard Savage 7 months ago

Fantastic experience: One of the great things about this Wharf is that you can drive on to the pier itself and parking is free for the first ninety minutes. There are a variety of eating options on the pier but we only bought ice cream. There great ocean views as well as views back to Santa Barbara.

Kien Lam 7 months ago

Positive experience: Bring up the wharf, and you picture sunny days and tourists in sunglasses strolling around in shorts. But it's equally delightful on a cold, chilly January winter Sunday morning when there aren't many people yet. It feeds that by-your-self introvert tendency. The scenes are still wonderful, you can be alone with your thoughts, and you can STILL get an ice cream cone if you want.

Positive experience: Great place to walk and enjoy the beach and it's sceneries. There are shops and restaurants in the wharf. There is also an aquarium you can visit. It can get crowded and parking can be limited too depending on the time and day.

Positive experience: Nice wharf but not the best in on this coast. I actually prefer Santa Monica. I don't regret coming to Santa Barbara but I preferred the main street. Most Spanish village in the USA!

Positive experience: This place has a great view, good food and sevice. However this place wreaks of Raw sewage. It's a shame the customers have to smell that while we eat outside or inside this establishment.

Fantastic experience: A particularly nice pier, with lots of shops to explore and great views of Santa Barbara from every side. I appreciated the option for free car access (up to a certain time limit, then must be paid) Especially recommend going later in the evening after dark!

Fantastic experience: A big YES!!! Beautiful and peaceful place with many views of Santa Barbara beaches and nice restaurants over the pier, I definitely think is worth the visit, the parking is 90 minutes free, if I am not wrong, and looks like that aways or almost aways have parking spots available. A definitely yes!!!

Fantastic experience: Built in 1872, the wooden pier has suffered many accidents and fires but still fascinates with its majesty. A pleasant place for lunch or dinner overlooking the ocean.

Will M 1 year ago

Negative experience: No one ever asked for a car park on a pier, yet, Mr Stearn broke convention and made one anyway. If you like to share your walk along a historical pier next to a row of queuing cars, this is the place for you!

Fantastic experience: Sta Barbara public iconic tourist spot that is often crowded but still provides a number of food choices, activities, and sights for everyone.

Olivia Messner 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: The pier seems old, however, it has a charm to it. You can walk the whole pier. I wouldn't recommend driving into the pier as there is limited parking and it has a narrow driveway

Nash Holcomb 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: This pier may not be as flashy as the Santa Monica Pier or the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, but it holds what I consider the right amount of charm and immersion of an old fashion historic pier/wharf with and active community of businesses, fishermen and visitors alike. Definitely an iconic part of Santa Barbara

David Winters 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I had a heavenly evening stroll here! Gorgeous, simultaneous views of the ocean and mountains.

Cigal Shaham 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: It's a pier. There are a few shops, really not a lot compared to other piers I have been to along the coast. You mainly just walk along the pier to see the sites, get a water taxi, eat some fish n chips...

Positive experience: Historic pier right next to downtown Santa Barbara, studded with restaurants, ice cream, candy and gift shops. The pier extends well into the ocean and walking all the way to the end, a panoramic view of the shoreline bustling with activities is seen. There’s also an aquarium and fishing areas

Positive experience: Stopped by here with family for 2+ hours as one stop on our road trip. Walked on the beach, wharf and down State Street. There are many tourists. It’s a cute place, as I love to visit beachside towns. The restaurant we wanted to eat at was very busy, so we bought take out ceviche and ate it on a picnic blanket on the grass by the water. We saw people renting the four people bikes riding along the bike path. If I have a chance to come here in the future, I’d want to try out biking down the bike path with the kids.

Fantastic experience: Stearns Wharf is a beautiful place to watch the sunset, waves, seagulls or just relax. There are a few places to eat and shop. Located at the end of State Street, it is easily accessible by foot, bike or car. It is a wooden pier but quite solid and sturdy enough to allow cars to drive and park on it, as well.

Positive experience: A great place to come in the area for amazing views of the coastline and ocean. We were staying at a hotel down the road and walked here so I don’t know much about the parking available (other than that there is parking ON the pier which I found...interesting given what usually leaks from cars will do so into the ocean??) The shining star for visiting though is the atmosphere, quiet, and views. There are some restaurants here as well (we ate at Char West) and people fishing off the dock. All good vibes! Would come here again for a relaxing walk!

Fantastic experience: Great pier with a good variety of restaurants and places to visit.

J Chaki 2 years ago

Positive experience: Nice place with pacific view, plenty of restaurants, shops, activities, fishing etc. just opposite to the downtown, walk a little. Only one thing is absurd i. e. Vehicle like cars, vans etc ride onto the wharf and can park here. I think it’s not a sustainable decision. Heavy vehicles may damage the wharf and also its not an eco friendly approach. It should be stopped.

Fantastic experience: A great stop! It was the first time my wife and I were in Santa Barbara. Not knowing what to expect, we made the trip to the Wharf in the morning. We were very impressed by the views as well as the many shops available. After site seeing in the day - we headed back for a nice glass of wine at the local winery. Great views! A great place to stop and spend time!

Fantastic experience: I live in the mountains, so it's exciting for me to be near an ocean. I enjoyed a sunburned afternoon at Stearn's Wharf. I was on my own so I could take my time and enjoy the wharf and Santa Barbara. I did not know where to park when I arrived, so I was pleasantly surprised to see parking is available on the wharf. The first spots I eventually determined (from vendor websites) are for businesses, not sure that is still the case (it's labeled valet parking on a wharf map). So I moved my car to a spot further along the wharf. Parking was plentiful Saturday morning, but quickly filled up by late morning. I was worried about expensive parking, but after seeing the parking prices in town, it turned out to work for me so I didn't have to move the car throughout the day. There are a variety of restaurants and at least one dessert vendor. There are also museums and boat tours. I took advantage of a boat tour (again, I'm not a water person) and enjoyed the laid back hour on the water. It's a bit rough if you are in a wheelchair, but doable. I didn't plan ahead with sunscreen. This is little shade during the day.

Fantastic experience: As a Santa Barbara local, we like to take our visitors to the wharf. It can get very crowded and not always a good idea to drive if you're in a hurry. Walking is an option. There are some reasonably priced souvenir shops and some decent restaurants. If you drive the first 90 minutes are free. You can also rent fishing equipment at the end. Great place to catch a sunset as well!

Fantastic experience: Magnificent place in Santa Barbara, got to spent the evening here watching the mesmerizing sunset with the backdrop of the palm trees. The boardwalk has a parking area with many shops and restaurants. There are also paid parking lots in the hotels nearby. The town is very well maintained.

Fantastic experience: Is the fun place to go to be able to see the Santa Barbara coast. It is a little chilly when we went, so I imagine it's busier during normal weather. There's good food on the pier as well. While walking back towards the shops we saw sea lions playing in the water. He's a nice place to walk to if you're in Santa Barbara. You can park on the street and walk the pier, or if you're visiting a restaurant on the beer you can drive in parking on it.

Fantastic experience: This is the third time I have been to Santa Barbara. It is absolutely gorgeous by the water! My wife, my mother, and I walked back and forth on Stearns Wharf. The views of the mountains and palm trees in the distance are so beautiful that no photo can really do it justice. You can park on the pier, but you have to pay for it after a certain amount of time. There are some great restaurants there in case you get hungry. It is best to just take a seat and take in the view.

Positive experience: We visited the day before Easter and it was packed! Not surprising, but very busy. It's always chilly on these piers so take a hoodie or sweater. It's fun the see what people are catching at the end of the pier. We would have done some fishing ourselves if we'd had more time. Lots of food options and trinkets to buy. The lowriders gave us a free show... There is parking on the wharf if you don't want to walk, but free parking is available close by.

Max Pfaff 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Very relaxed and clean compared to many other beaches here in California! Great atmosphere and very nice ocean views from the pier. Great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. You will most likely see some birds up close if walking the pier. Good amount of parking so it should not be a problem at least when I went in the morning. Coffee and food options all within walking distance as well.

Fantastic experience: Review for March 25th 2021. What can I say, Santa Barbara is simply just a beautiful city in a beautiful County. Not only historically it is fascinating in that Spanish Colonial architecture is alive still, but also because the city itself is in pristine condition. Not Guilty, to say that I fell in love with Santa Barbara. The Stearns Wharf Pier is also very fascinating in that you can actually drive your vehicle right to the parking lot over the ocean. Very nice restaurants in things to do on the pier. Don't miss out this opportunity to come visit to take pictures and videos and to have lunch at this great place

Fantastic experience: Stearns Wharf is always a favorite destination in Santa Barbara, with gorgeous 360° views of the Channel, harbor, marina, Santa Cruz Island, the Mesa and the Riviera. Our tradition for holidays has always been the wonderful buffet at the Harbor Restaurant, but there are many destinations on the wharf ranging from ice cream, to wine tasting, take out clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls, gift shops and a museum. With the scenic surrounding views, plus a Christmas tree, we always have our annual photo taken on Stearn's Wharf at dusk on Christmas Day. We came down to the wharf for pics, even though the restaurant was closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, and we lucked out with the great weather and beautiful sunset.

Fantastic experience: Honestly, if you're in the area just do it! It was delight to walk on the old wooden planks and hear the planking of the tires on the pier. Parking is first come, first served and had a fee of $20. Stearns Wharf offered excellent seafood dinging options and stunning views. Towards the end of the pier, I waves looked like light bulbs twinkling off the suns rays. From this pier, you are also able to catch beautiful birds passing by. There also great little information plaques to glean off the history of the wharf. I'd return. :) They also allow fishing without a permit.

Positive experience: While in Santa Barbara, worth it to walk out on Stearns Warf. Restaurants out on pier are a nice setting for a bite to eat. Wear comfortable shoes! Uneven boards. Note upon entrance to pier says no bare feet (splinters) or high heels. Very good advice.

Ahmed Ayad 4 years ago

Positive experience: This is a great historical place with views of the city and the beach. However, I don't understand the decision to allow cars on the wharf and waste most of the surface area on a parking lot. So much potential wasted here.

Kelly Kirk 4 years ago

Positive experience: This pier is windy enough it was lifting a women off her feet who I happen to know is heavier than two hundred pounds. If you bring children here, keep a tight grip is all I have to say. If you have small pets, perhaps leave them in the car or they may take flight and be tossed out to sea. There are a couple of shops on this pier butt they carry the typical tourist tripe. If you prefer to shop local, avoid the entire downtown area. There is a neat opening near the end of the pier, where you can peer down into the water under the boards. The boards are beefy so cars can drive and park on the pier...one of the first I've seen created this way. I had hoped to spot some whales but it wasn't meant to be. It was interesting to walk. I was surprised to see a ladder allowing people to go down to the water on the far end of the pier with no chain or railing to prevent someone being blown over the edge (the wind was strong enough to easily accomplish this feat) if they stood near it. Drivers on the pier couldn't care less if they take off your foot, so be wary. There are public bathrooms by the rock store...which for some reason there was a line to get into. The stores here are requiring masks. I'm glad I can say I checked it out I guess, but I wouldn't return. I live just over an hour from the Oregon coast so this was not a big deal to me. If you don't live near the water, it may be a more thrilling visit on your vacation. If you happen to be there when you can spot whales, that would make it worth it.

Positive experience: Fun place for visitors and locals of Santa Barbara to walk out and view the Harbor and Shoreline. There are many shops, a nice sea center and several nice restaurants. There are opportunities to view local sea birds and sea life especially seals. The wharf offers great views of the city and mountains and it’s always fun to check out the fishermen along the wharf to see what’s biting. When the weather is clear you can enjoy views of the oil platforms, sailboats, and the Channel Islands. It’s a great place to take kids fishing and there is a bait and tackle shop that rents poles. There are places for Harbor tours by boat and during busy times there is a boat ride to the harbor on the “Little Toot”. The Sunset Kid offers sunset cruises most evenings and is available for private charters. During whale migration season there are places to go whale watching. If you are feeling adventurous there is a place to parasail. As a local I highly recommend a visit to the wharf. It can can be accessed directly by car and there is 90 minutes of free parking on the wharf and you can also park on the street and walk out. The wharf entrance has a beautiful Dolphin Fountain done by local artist James Bottoms.

Positive experience: What a beautiful and pristine beach it is. A must visit place on the west coast. The water is cold (which is expected across the Pacific coast in the US except for a few beaches in Southern California), maming it a place not suitable to go in winters. But it must be one of the most visited tourist attractions during summers. Add it to your bucket list when visiting west coast!

Sean G. Rosenstock 4 years ago

Positive experience: The wharf, much like other piers along the California coast, contains several restaurants and souvenir shops. The restaurants tend to be pricey and food quality is inconsistent. The views are beautiful from here, but if you are coming for seafood you will have superior options off the wharf on Cabrillo Blvd. There is a small marine life museum at the left end of the wharf. Parking is ticketed.

Fantastic experience: We ended up here by accident. Wich is always the best way to experience a place in my opinion. We enjoyed riding bikes along the Wharf. There are some nice souvenir shops, some excellent places to get your classic sea food fare, and some nautical adventures for the inclined type. We saw people fishing and enjoyed great views of the coast peppered with sailboats. I'd definitely recommend a stop.

Fantastic experience: Loved loved loved this pier. Unique in its own way because you can park inside pier. Never experienced that before. Even on a lit day we found parking fast. Mask required to enter all stores. Restrooms available as well. Got some cool SB souvenirs at some shop called nature snacks and gifts. Something like that. I was there for 30min tops and didn't pay for parking.

Fantastic experience: One of the only piers I know where you can drive into the pier. There's a few good restaurants on the end of the pier. Parking is free for the first 90 minutes. Gets crowded on weekends but weekdays are very tranquil. Love it!

Fantastic experience: Beautiful area. The views are stunning, the shops are clean and open (during covid). The people are super friendly as well. Nice stop off on our tour of highway 1.

Fantastic experience: Stearns Warf has always had a special place in my heart. Grew up fishing off of it (dont remember catching much-but I was about 5), eating from the ice cream and candy shops and just horsing around. We spent a lot of time at the museum located on the warf! So awesome! Its beautiful in a scenic, clanky and sort of wild way! Head to the end for the best photos in town. Parking is 75 or 90?minutes free. GREAT SUNRISE SPOT at the far end of the warf. Also a few epic restaurants, little "toot toot" boat rides to and from the harbor!
