🗣️ New England Aquarium: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Wonderful. A huge tank in the middle with lots of sealife - easy to find a spot to view and photograph as you can see in on all floors, and down the central spiral. Clearly we'll looked after and squeaky clean. The penguins are a riot
Fantastic experience: If you haven't gone to the aquarium at least ten times and know the fish tank spiral are you really from MA? Outside of Boston? Didnt think so. Everyone loves the aquarium and it hasn't changed. Right on the harbor too so you inevitably end up at Legals. Go to the aquarium.
Fantastic experience: Exceeded expectations. The central tank dominated the visit and emersed me in a water world. The surrounding aquariums, tanks and exhibits added to the feel of an ocean environment. Better than scuba diving because visibility is so much better. Staff were friendly, helpful and enthusiastic.
Fantastic experience: Lots to see, the big tank is really cool! All around it there are loads of tanks with fish, turtles, snakes, frogs for all sorts of different habits from around the world. In the main tank 2 divers went in to feed the fish, it was so cool. There are several nice restaurants right in the area and a park with a splash pad for kids. We got discounted tickets thru our local library. Definitely go check it out!
Positive experience: Solid aquarium. We are in the Boston area with little kids so this is the staple. I've been to many aquariums around the world. This is above average but not world leading. Gets busy quickly, I suggest entering before 10:30, even on weekdays. You can buy tickets for a time range online. There are library discounts available too. The exhibits are easy navigate. I suggest waking the square parameter on the way up, and around the center tank on the way down. Don't forget the Ray petting/shark exhibit area and the sea lions. It is easy to pet the rays if you follow the staff instructions. Staff is very friendly, and care about the teaching visitors and taking good care for the animals. Food is grossly overpriced, but that is normal for something like this. It is a little bit of a walk from South Station, so plan accordingly. Plenty of restaurants nearby and a fun water fountain you'll see on the way in, for kids to cool off (seasonal of course). Good luck and have fun!
Positive experience: This was a fun way to spend an overcast day, although the ticket price is a little much. I understand that money goes towards conservation but I still winced. Gift shop was incredibly overpriced for what they had. The exhibits were well maintained; you could actually see employees in scuba gear in the big tank which was cool. 4/5 stars because of the gift shop pricing and because I saw a lot of employees which was great, BUT I wish more had been done to regulate crowds and kids smacking on glass or families posted up at an exhibit and not moving or sharing space. I love the excitement of aquariums but when a family won’t move from an exhibit in a small space it does a disservice to other guests. Would definitely return!
Positive experience: This a fun museum you can get through in about 2 hours. The penguins are in an open-air encounter. Which is really cool, but it can also be very noisy. This reminded me a lot of the National Aquarium in Baltimore MD, but on a smaller scale. The shark exhibit on the basement level is tucked away by the stingray touch bay and a great hands-on area for kids to learn more about sharks and their life cycle. Lastly, I'm not sure if it was just his day to explore, but the octopus was the most active octopus I have ever seen.
Fantastic experience: Simply lovely! I visited this place with my family and it was a great experience.
Negative experience: We came from out of town and had the most awful experience. It was so crowded there was no space to walk and it was a safety hazard. Had there been an emergency, we would have not been able to get out safetly and efficiently. Additionally, none of the guests were asked to wash their hands before touching the sting rays and sharks, potentially leading to this creatures becoming very ill, suffering, or even death. An electric eel was also in a tank that was not even double the eel's size. The poor thing just circled and circled while we went to view it. And the finale of disappointment was the gift shop. I've been to almost every museum in downtown Boston and this gift shop was by FAR the most unreasonably priced. $30 for a mug, $75 for a sweater, $20 for a beaded bracelet, $13 for a small bag of candy. Insanely inflated prices. We ended up leaving in the worst mood, having seen nothing from it being so crowded and not getting a souvenir because of the pricing. 0/10 would NOT recommend.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful aquarium in the city! It was worth the admission price. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. Really cool way to experience it but going up the center and then down the ramps. The sea turtles were the best part, most of them are older than most of us!!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely aquarium with a beautiful mission of environmental protection. Inside there is both lots to learn as well as beautiful animals to enjoy
Fantastic experience: The New England Aquarium is a fantastic stop for families visiting Boston! From the moment we walked in, the large central tank was absolutely amazing, so many vibrant sea creatures swimming all around. The layout is smart and engaging, with a spiral ramp that lets you view different marine life from every level. Our kids (12 and 8) were completely captivated by the penguins, jellyfish, and the hands-on touch tank experience. Staff were knowledgeable and great at answering curious questions. We spent about 2 hours here, and it was well worth it. Definitely recommend buying tickets in advance, and if you’re doing more Boston attractions, consider a CityPASS to save. A great educational and fun outing for all ages!
Positive experience: There needs to be more interaction for kids. Not saying touch animals, but they should have some educational games or activities for the family. It's nice to go, but after a while it's done. I would love to spend the whole day in the aquarium if they had some educational games.
Fantastic experience: The well-educated, professional staff walked around with examples of marine life, ready to educate and answer any questions the guests had. It was feeding time when we went, and it was a treat to watch!
Negative experience: Even tho they sell tickets based on time slots, it’s still chaos! We went on a Sunday, and it was beyond crowded. We didn’t really enjoy it because of all the crowd, you could barely walk through. The exhibits were ok, I was expecting more.
Fantastic experience: This is my favorite aquarium! Very accessible for disabled folks, I like to take the elevator up to the top and then work my way down. There's a few stairs but mostly ramps, so you won't need the elevator for every floor. The rays in the touch tank are the sweetest! There's a gorgeous waterfront area that's publicly accessible all around the building. I've never had a bad experience here (other than people taking flash photos but there's always careless people). 10/10, their conservation efforts are wonderful. Definitely see the movies they have! It's only $5 more per ticket and it's a great way to relax, lovely theater. You can go in and out all day on one ticket so don't worry about that. My fiancée had a wonderful birthday here and I have in the past as well :)
Fantastic experience: Really had fun here with the whole family. Loved seeing the sea lions fed and the giant sea turtle!
Fantastic experience: Really nice aquarium with a great variety of exhibits. Clean and well maintained.
Fantastic experience: I took my 5 month baby with me to the aquarium. We spent good 3-4 hours. There is a lot to explore. Various marine species and sea lions. Very organized and clean.
Fantastic experience: This was a really cool experience. The staff here were very friendly and professional. The kids loved the area with the toys and the staff manning it. There were a bunch of cool exhibits to see. There is no dedicated parking for the aquarium. The nearby parking lots are super expensive.
Negative experience: Honestly if it weren't for meeting up with an old friend who just moved (for our sons to meet up) this place wasn't great. Besides the mediocre attractions... They have an attack elevator that closes within like 10 seconds and doesn't have that rubber piece to feel you when it's closing. . So when I say attack, I mean it closed so hard on my arm and shoulder then into my daughter's head who I was holding that 2 days later I'm working to document for an injury lawyer. I snapped a pic of the culprit while I was there ... Needless to say, do not waste your time and money for the unnecessary bodily injury.
Fantastic experience: The New England Aquarium is an outstanding destination for all ages. I visited on a busy day, but I was genuinely impressed by how well-organized everything was despite the large crowds. The flow of visitors is managed efficiently, and there’s enough space and signage to ensure you can move comfortably and not miss anything important. The aquarium itself is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which really enhances the experience. Each exhibit is thoughtfully designed and easy to navigate, making it very family-friendly. Whether you're with young children, teens, or adults, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and learn from. The central Giant Ocean Tank is a true highlight, with its spiraling ramp offering multiple perspectives of the sea turtles, rays, and reef fish. The penguin exhibit at the base is lively and entertaining, and the touch tanks offer a hands-on experience that’s both fun and educational. I also appreciated the staff’s friendliness and clear passion for marine life. Their presence throughout the building adds a layer of insight and care. Overall, the New England Aquarium delivers a clean, engaging, and enriching experience that’s perfect for families or anyone interested in the wonders of the ocean. I highly recommend a visit!
Fantastic experience: Super fun experience, we specifically loved the spiraling ramp around the center tank and walked it twice. The sea lion show and penguin feeding are fun and educational too. If you are an aquarium lover like us, this one is definitely worth checking out!
Fantastic experience: I went on a whim. So exciting to see all the penguins and other sea life at feeding time. Very educational for the young ones and young at heart
Negative experience: Some of the sealife are kept in tanks way too small. There were 6 sea lions in a tank that should only house 2 and the giant red octopus could touch both sides of his tank with his outstreched arms. There is zero space for him to swim and entertain himself. The tour guide said he's been in that same tank for a year. Incredibly sad.
Fantastic experience: Great aquarium beautiful sea creatures friendly staff. Great education for children
Positive experience: Nice aquarium. First time there. Definitely, not needed to spend a whole day there. You can see everything and do enough reading on display within a good 2 hours. Watching the seals perform was the highlight of the day.
Fantastic experience: Lots to see. Plan for 2-3 hours. Spiral to the top of aquarium and meet Myrtle.
Positive experience: Very expensive for the amount of tanks and animals but what was there was lovely, not overly crowded considering though. Animals didn't seem to have enough space and didn't seem very happy.
Fantastic experience: My first time here we had a blast highly recommended and we also saw a 45 minute movie about Dolphins.
Fantastic experience: Loved this aquarium! Lots of cool exhibits and the huge octopus was amazing.
Fantastic experience: The touch tank was fun! Go when they open or right before they close. Those kids and adults do numbers on those poor animals! The stingray and sharks were fun to see and touch. They have great exhibits and the flow of pedestrian traffic throughout is set up very nice. At the top of the aquarium you can learn and/or ask questions about anything regarding the animals there and the aquarium itself.
Fantastic experience: We almost didn’t come here because we worried about driving/ traffic and parking in this part of Boston. That was all for not because we had no trouble and there was ample parking. Wonderful aquarium!
Fantastic experience: I actually didn't visit the aquarium. I was on one of their whale watching tours. And it did NOT disappoint!! We saw a total of 6 different humpback whales!! Crew was fantastic and informative. Answering any questions about whales. Highly recommend
Positive experience: We went Saturday May 24, made the trip down from Vermont and severely underestimated the amount of exhibits that are here. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful aquarium, the animals are obviously well cared for and loved but there's really not as many exhibits as we thought there was. Granted we haven't been in about a decade but we took our time, read the infographics; tried to locate the different species of fish and saw everything twice. We were out in less than an hour. We got there right as they opened, we bought tickets ahead of time and by the time we left it was absolutely packed.
Positive experience: We love aquariums and wanted to see what this one had to offer. At first glance, we walked in on the penguin exhibit which was neat and visible from nearly every floor. But...we found the aquarium difficult to navigate as we found the signs too late (like when we thought we were done with the whole aquarium) and found the layout a little confusing. But overall, the best feature of the whole place is the giant coral aquarium ecosystem that sits center with a spiral walkway surrounding the tank with too many viewing spots to count. Overall, they had a great selection of fish, great information and some great sights of the animals.
Positive experience: Way too many people. Beautiful place but couldn't enjoy it as much as I could've wanted.
Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic time at the aquarium, it was wonderful to experience and interact with creatures we may never get to see again.
Positive experience: Go forth with a tempered expectation. Wife and I go to a lot of aquariums. Whenever we visit a new city we always seek one out. I had high hopes for this one, but quickly it all fell short. We went at 2:40pm entrance time on a Saturday for Memorial Day weekend. Maybe that had something to do with it. But it was seriously crowded for having time limited entry. The whole place was overall pretty dirty looking and feeling. If you’ve never been to an aquarium before, I’d say go for it, you won’t know the difference. Then when you go to another (New Orleans, Atlanta, etc) you’ll be even more impressed.
Positive experience: Pretty boring aquarium. Merchandise and food is way too overpriced. If you are looking for a top-tier aquarium in the New England area, I would highly recommend visiting either Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut or Save The Bay’s Hamilton Aquarium in Newport, Rhode Island.
Fantastic experience: Great experience for 4 and up for sure! It’s small compared to the Georgia Aquarium, but great!
Positive experience: Plan on spending a few hours-there is so much to see. The 200,000 gallon center tank spirals 3 floors up. There were a lot of people on Mother's Day. Bring portable chair if you are not able to stand for a long time, very few benches in exhibit areas. It is also rather dark in many areas.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I went on a 20th anniversary trip to Boston without kids to watch a game at Fenway and do the tourist thing around the city. We bought the City Pass to bundle several attractions. The New England Aquarium was by far the best thing we did! We're from Georgia and have been to many aquariums before, including the Georgia (Atlanta), Tennessee (Chattanooga), Miami, and Tampa. While the New England is probably the smallest, it was very well laid out, with very exciting tanks, plenty of animal trainers around to answer questions, and hands down the best penguin exhibit we've ever seen! My wife and I agreed that this was the only attraction that we'd repeat without kids.
Positive experience: Good aquarium. It is interesting but i was personally expecting more and bigger sharks, especially since there is a whole part dedicated to sharks.
Fantastic experience: Obsessed with this aquarium. The ground floor of the aquarium is a pool with clusters of penguin habitats, it is AMAZING for "people/penguin" watching. The center of the aquarium is a column tank with a ramp wrapping around it up to the top. Watch out for sea turtles! The exhibits on each floor adjacent to the center column tank are cool, but I think my favorite was the sea lion pool at the back of the aquarium.
Fantastic experience: Smaller than I expected but spaces are utilized most efficiently. I loved the giant ocean tank. It was pretty amazing to see the different types of fish and Myrtle the giant turtle. The tank spanned 4 floors. My daughters both loved the touch tank. The penguins and sea lions were adorable. I also enjoyed seeing the octopus in the Olympic Coast exhibit. It was just a great experience all around. I highly recommend it.
Positive experience: Very fun, looots of diff types of aquatic life and very well maintained! They have an amazing shark egg exhibit where you can see through live eggs! Learned a lot and very accessible.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed my time at the Aquarium. Very detailed exhibits and lots of wildlife go see
Fantastic experience: The aquarium itself is nice, but I wasn’t a fan of the parking situation. There’s almost no street parking available, so your best bet is to find the nearest parking garage — just be ready to pay a high price. It’ll save you time and a long walk, though. The area is always busy, but there’s a lot to do nearby if you’re looking to spend money. If not, you can still enjoy walking around by the water and taking in the views for free. Overall, it’s a decent visit if you plan ahead. Also, I’m a photographer—feel free to follow me on Instagram: @mr.3verything
Positive experience: The New England Aquarium was beautiful and had some amazing exhibits, but it was very crowded, which made it a bit hard to fully enjoy the experience. Still worth visiting for the views and sea life!
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed the aquarium so much! There are plenty of sea animals to see. It would have been nice to see more large sea animals like sharks. Penguins are my favorite and they're right in front of the entrance.
Fantastic experience: It was great to see the aquarium after my last visit almost 40 years ago. The place is still awesome! Great displays and the center is amazing. Keep up the great work. A little pricey and downtown parking is robbery.
Fantastic experience: I had an excellent time at the aquarium! It was so much fun exploring all the different exhibits and seeing a wide variety of amazing sea creatures up close. BUY your tickets in advance for you no to do line. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful—customer service was truly exceptional. The only downside was that the gift shop was a bit pricey, but overall, it was a fantastic experience. Definitely worth the visit!
Fantastic experience: We were able to watch feeding time for the animals, the staff was educated and told us about conservation efforts. Would love to come back.
Fantastic experience: A very beautiful aquarium and ocean fish. They are beautiful fish with a great variety. They have the most beautiful and very large ocean turtle plus sting rays. The sea lions we're amazing. You will love the penguins and the sea lions, also don't forget about the jellyfish.
Fantastic experience: We come to the New England Aquarium every time we come to Boston. The size of the penguin exhibit is massive. Seeing them interact with each other and the staff was amazing. Price is pretty decent for all the aquarium offers. The sea lion area was so cute. When they brought out the toys the sea lions had a fun time.
Fantastic experience: "This venue offers an enjoyable experience, particularly with the opportunity to observe three distinct species of penguins. The ongoing construction added an interesting element, and its location in Boston contributes to its appeal. However, parking was notably expensive—nearly $50 for a two-hour stay in the garage."
Positive experience: Always a good time with the family of 4. Amazing sea-life to explore throughout. The penguins, stingray/shark and giant sea turtle (75-90 years old) were the highlights for my children. We caught the 3D dolphin experience and it was thoroughly enjoyable! Recommend this for any family... Although it's a short stay. About an hour and a half to 2 hours max.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous Aquarium!! MUST-SEE New England Gem! The Octopus was definitely my favorite, but I was mesmerized the entire time. We had a fabulous day and I can't wait to go again!
Fantastic experience: The New England Aquarium is a must-visit attraction when you’re in Boston, especially if you love marine life. Located right on the waterfront near Long Wharf, it’s super easy to reach by public transit or even on foot if you're exploring downtown. The centerpiece of the aquarium is the Giant Ocean Tank, a huge cylindrical tank that spans several floors. You can walk up a spiral ramp around it and see sea turtles, sharks, colorful tropical fish, and even moray eels swimming in a beautiful coral reef environment. It’s absolutely mesmerizing! The penguin exhibit at the base of the tank is also a highlight — watching the little guys swim and waddle around is endlessly entertaining. There are lots of smaller exhibits too, featuring jellyfish, sea lions, and even touch tanks where you can gently interact with rays and small sharks. The aquarium is very family-friendly, with plenty of educational displays and staff who are happy to answer questions. I recommend visiting earlier in the day to avoid crowds, especially on weekends. If you have extra time, consider adding on a whale-watching cruise, which departs right outside the aquarium during warmer months. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for all ages — fun, educational, and filled with beautiful marine life. Highly recommend spending a few hours here!
Fantastic experience: We were visiting today and it was very busy, raining, and we were twenty minutes late to our reservation because of traffic and weather but everyone was so kind and gracious. My family had a lovely time we will definitely be back
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience, love the open penguin enclosure and the massive tank in the middle. The two sea turtles were cute (and huge) and we even saw a stingray that tried to fly out of the tank X'D. Lots of educational content in the museum too!
Fantastic experience: Always love the aquarium! With older kids it's about 1-2 hour experience without the shows. Young kids could spend the day! Lots of walking and lots to see!
Fantastic experience: The New Englad Aquarium has all the good staples for a good aquarium, penguins, a central tank with spiral walkway, side exhibits, a ray and shark petting area, and the sea lions and demonstration. When you first walk in you immediately see the penguin habitat. If you go near opening you may see the penguins getting fed. The central tank with spiral stairs walkway has fish swimming, each type at a different level, plus a couple rays and sea turtles. During the day you may cat divers feeding some of the fish. Exhibits along the side wall cover a wide gamut from a blue lobster, electric eel, urchins, an octopus, sea horses, fresh water fish and much more. There is a ray and shark touch tank. Depending on when you go the rays may be more or less active. Kids love it, but it can take some patience. Some kids will want to touch one so bad they will be focused others will want to move on. It can get crowded so you'll have to be a little aggressive to get a spot when one opens up. There is a seal show, but I didn't see a posting of times. The entrenched to the area wasn't well marked either and easy to walk by. Overall a lot of beautiful fish to look at and enjoy. There is a small cafeteria where you exit the aquarium near the gift shop and go upstairs. There is only a small selection of items. A basket of 3 ticket tenders, some fries and a drink was just over $20. There is an associated Imax theater. It is actually in a different building nearby (you walked by it on the way in). So keep your aquarium tickets to get back in if you are going back and forth. If you are visiting Boston it is conveniently located to many other attractions, acriss from Quincy Market and Fanuel Hall, there is a mwrygo round near by, the Old State House and Oaul Rever's House aren't all that far of a walk. And it is close to the Freedom Trail. Overall it is an enjoyable experience, worth the price. You can easily soend a few hours or more.
Fantastic experience: We found Nemo and Dory! (See pics) Make sure to buy tickets ahead of time as entry is matched to ticket times. It is an amazing experience and so much fun.
Fantastic experience: We visited today and had a wonderful time, all ages from toddler to senior enjoyed ourselves. Everything was clean and well organized. The exhibits are well done and the touch tank was a big hit. We had tickets for the aquarium and nearby parking purchased in advance, which I highly recommend.
Positive experience: In my opinion the aquarium has very limited expositions compared to others outside the USA. The instqllations seems pretty old and the animals seems to have limited space ehich did not make me feel any good. It is ok, not impressive.
Positive experience: My first time visiting an aquarium and it was an educating experience! However, the hallways and Corridors are narrow, elevators take too long and the lighting poor which made the experience a little disappointing.
Positive experience: It was nice, but in comparison to other aquariums, a bit disappointing. I've always heard it's encouraged to use public transportation to get to and from the aquarium, but that's also very problematic with time ticketing. It was a huge time to wait in to get tickets on site and when we finally did get tickets we had over an hour wait with children in the cold and drizzle before entry because of the timed tickets. Granted it was a weekend, but the aquarium was absolutely packed. Very nice displays, but there's no longer any of the bigger sharks. The touch tank with the rays and smaller sharks was surprisingly hard to find even with instructions from a staff member, because it's before you really enter into the main aquarium area. Had my child not been specifically looking to see sharks, we would have missed the entire shark display which is accessible only through the touch tank area. Concessions and gift shop items are fairly expensive.
Positive experience: The New England Museum was a decent visit—some parts felt a bit underwhelming, but a few exhibits really stood out. The blue lobster was fascinating—I’ve never seen one anywhere else! The octopus was also a highlight. Worth a quick visit if you’re nearby, but don’t expect to be blown away by the whole experience.
Positive experience: Nice penguin exhibit with a large aquarium in the middle. Fun but you can finish the aquarium in a short period of time
Fantastic experience: Always a fun place to visit. Also some great marine life education to be had. The huge Center tank is always a favorite. If you see Myrtle the Turtle tell her I say hi, she's been there since Spring of 1970. I seen her when I was a kid. ☺️
Fantastic experience: Absolute must-see! The most impressive things are the penguins' habitats and the big, vertical tank that runs up through the whole building, filled up with fish and other sea life, with Myrtle the Turtle as its main star. Penguins are greatly taken care of, you can see how thought-thru the whole operation is. We saw sea lions at external runs and enjoyed a movie about dolphins in the 3d cinema. Mind you this is a place with A LOT of kids and is really busy during the weekends. The staff was nice, helpful and very qualified and invested in their job. Highly recommended!
Positive experience: A nice aquarium... but I was there to see jellyfish but there was only a sea nettle and moon jelly. I felt some type of way so minus one star for lack of jallyfish. The penguins were cute though.
Fantastic experience: Amazing aquarium, loved it during my childhood and still amazing now as an adult. Really well scaled exhibits so there is information and fun for everyone from little kids to adults. Touch tank of rays is cool and the staff make sure the animals don't get overwhelmed. Loved seeing the penguins wander around! Very cool merch, got a very nice shirt.
Positive experience: When you get tickets with a EBT card heads up it is a great way to get in for a reasonable price. It is only $10 for one adult in one child but a heads up. It is very expensive to park. See picture one other than that, we had a phenomenal time
Fantastic experience: Tip: buy your tickets in advance and if you’re a MA resident you can save a little $$. Came for a day trip to Boston from western Ma. last time I was at the aquarium was 10 + years ago and didn’t have a child hahaha, so it looks different then i remember. My son’s first time at an aquarium and he was super chilled out looking at all the fish swim around. Went on a weekend so i definitely don’t recommend that.
Fantastic experience: The Boston Aquarium is a must-see when visiting Boston. Does matter your age, it is an awesome place to visit. The price for an adult was $39+tax. They have a very nice gift shop as well.
Negative experience: We visited this aquarium because it was literally next door to our hotel, but I regret spending the $100 for our family of three. We spent maybe an hour inside barely able to see any of the extremely limited exhibits because it was beyond crowded. NOTE: If you DO go, go during the week, and purchase your ticket online, there is no need to stand in the massive lines outside to get into this place.
Positive experience: The sheer number of people in the aquarium at one time is exhausting to navigate. Keep your head down and look for little pockets to get close to the tanks and observe the fish. Also be ready to wait in long lines for the elevators if you have a stroller or little people. Definitely buy tickets in advance. You'll still wait in a small line, but better than the alternative.
Fantastic experience: This place is so nostalgic for me, they have a large spiral staircase that goes upstairs to a beautiful viewing area at the top of the tank. The penguins are so engaged, and you can play a game with them. Great place for kids. You def need to get tickets in advance, they time walk ins to avoid having too many people inside at once. There are no sharks, there used to be, but the seals help.
Positive experience: Informative, entertaining, nice to see the sea critters within the Giant tank, especially Murtal The Turtle .
Positive experience: Just as fun as when I was a kid. Highly recommend petting a ray! It'd be a stretch to spend a half day here, a few hours tops does it.
Fantastic experience: It's small compared to aquariums in other big cities but they have good exhibits and friendly staff. Check your local library for discount passes because entry is very expensive.
Positive experience: The aquarium was good. Tickets are rather on pricey side for a student ($40). Loved the Harbor View cafe.
Fantastic experience: Definitely worth the travel, every time! Membership definitely has beneifts. Please support the aquarium in any way you can, even if it's just visiting the gift shop! Been finding time to see the penguins for a long time now. Bonus this visit: found Nemo! ;) Check the schedule posted online, and purchase tickets in advance. It saves a lot of waiting.
Negative experience: Overpriced for what it offers. If you are in New England - Mystic Seaport and Norwalk aquarium are 1000% better option. Extreme crowded - dark with narrow alleys make it a hazard for children. Avoid and save your money to go to a real aquarium in Mystic. Regret going here and wasting my money.
Fantastic experience: Went during a weekday morning due to this it was less crowded. Everything was super clean and easy to follow. We interacted with the touch tank the employees were super informative. The gift shop was reasonably priced and had a range of items.
Fantastic experience: Super busy. Staff were very helpful and kind. I also saw a fish bothering one of the divers while they were working, which made my day.
Fantastic experience: It's a great time. The only warning I have is that ticketing is outdoors, so make sure you're ready to stand in the weather if you are buying on site! The aquarium is beautiful, educational, and very enjoyable to visit.
Fantastic experience: Very well maintained aquarium and educational. The staff was answering questions and engaging with visitors.
Positive experience: The New England Aquarium will forever be lame. I can't believe people pay thirty bucks to go here. I forgot my EBT card, but when I played the stall game, I was let in for five bucks. I mean the penguins are cool and all but it's for little kids. For five dollars, it's not a bad value but over thirty is crazy. Maybe people appreciate the aquatic life and the displays more than I do and they have a good mission in rescuing some of these animals and caring for them in Quincy. The little show with the sea lions ain't bad -- again, one for the kids. Just would rather spend my money elsewhere but I don't have kids.
Fantastic experience: We had an enjoyable visit but plan on timed entry and crowds. There were many people through the exhibits which were well done.
Positive experience: It was great, the kids were amazed, I loved all the beautiful colors and attractions. The only negative part was I thought there was more to it. It looks huge, the first floor is great but the second and third floors dont have much. Its still nice though. Sorry, i wasnt in the mood to take pics really, I was too busy enjoying the smiles on the kids faces.
Fantastic experience: FIND THE EEL!!! This was my first time ever going to an aquarium and it was a great experience. The setup is great with the huge tank going through the middle from the bottom to top floor allowing you to walk all the way to the top seeing how different fish prefer different areas of the tank. You’re also able to walk the path that leads around the building that has many other different fish that live in different habitats. A good show to check out as well are the sea lions. It’s outside so bungle up if it’s cold. Great experience.
Positive experience: I love sea animals, saw a dophin move in 3D which was excellent. My faves of course are the penguins and jellies. Now the only issue is if you're in a wheelchair plan a head to go on a weekday because you can't move around with hundreds of people with baby carriages that just ram into you left and right, they also advertise on their website that people with disabilities get in free that is NOT true you must have a hearing or visual disability for that to happen. They don't give any discounts to CT foodstamp holders unlike the science museum which accommodates way more then the Aqurium.
Positive experience: It's a really cool aquarium. It's costly for the size. Extremely packed with people. Many exhibits were difficult to view due to the number of people. I've never seen such a large turtle in person. Was not able to see the octopus due to the large crowd. The aquarium will only validate parking for members.
Fantastic experience: A great time for people of all ages! At the time we went there were no lines and it wasn't crowded. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. I would definitely recommend a stop here for sure.
Negative experience: One of the worst aquariums I have ever been to in my life, a disappointment for me and my family! And super expensive, not to mention the parking, which is $25 an hour, a rip-off, plus the $40 entrance fee per person to the crappy aquarium where there are only penguins.
Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful place to visit! We had a blast at the touch tank, seeing the turtles and penguins were the highlights for us!
