Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed the aquarium and butterfly garden. Even the outside areas were quite nice with the steppingstones. The kids could go across the water in. It was great.

Positive experience: The price is astronomically high. This makes it near impossible for lower income families or larger families to enjoy these types of places. Very disheartening. The facility is well designed. It was crowded when we went. The butterfly exhibit was incredibly beautiful, if you enjoy the presence of these creatures. Many of them you can hold. Over all I would not adventure again.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful Experience! There is a Butterfly Atrium & Tropical Rooms... the gift shop had many useful items to choose from at reasonable prices I loved the "mood" rings $5. The bracelets were gorgeous. The Aquariums were absolutely amazing with plenty to see... the animals come right up to the glass. Nice Cool place to escape the summer's heat. Only downside for me... there are NO Food Venders. I should have fed my crew before we came... The street venders and local (walking distance) restaurants were all full! We enjoyed the IMax Theater after our tour... really nice way to relax before the Trek home. They offered typical theater fare. Excellent way to spend a Day!

Fantastic experience: Our visit to the Tennessee Aquarium was absolutely amazing and a perfect day out for the whole family! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly staff and a beautifully designed space that kept us all excited from start to finish. The exhibits were stunning—so well maintained and thoughtfully laid out. We loved the mix of freshwater and saltwater creatures, and the river journey was just as impressive as the ocean side. The kids were fascinated by the otters, penguins, and especially the jellyfish displays. Even the adults were in awe of the giant tanks and the peaceful, immersive atmosphere. What really made the experience special was how interactive and educational it was without ever feeling overwhelming. The staff was knowledgeable and eager to answer questions, and there were plenty of hands-on areas to keep the little ones engaged. We left with big smiles, fun memories, and a new appreciation for aquatic life. If you're ever in Chattanooga, the Tennessee Aquarium is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: We did the Sleep in the Deep program. The staff was incredible and well informed about the animals. The aquarium is kept up well.

Fantastic experience: Loved our visit to the TN Aquarium in Chattanooga. Housed in two multi-story buildings, I'm partial to the sea life in the Ocean Journey but winding through the four levels of the River Journey was also impressive. Both buildings are home to a wide variety of aquatic creatures from around the world, and the size of the River aquarium is astounding. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The campus is beautiful, and parking is plentiful (though not free). You'll easily spend 3 hours enjoying the TN Aquarium in Chattanooga and count it well worth the ticket price. It's a must do!

Positive experience: Lovely place to take your kids for a fun day out. Our little one was under their ticket requirement age, so they got in free. However, the adult ticket prices for the aquarium alone are a bit on the higher side. Not only that, but you also have to pay an additional $10 to park in their lot, which is just another way for them to profit. I wouldn't make it a point to go here often, but it was fun for a day trip.

Fantastic experience: Interesting, amazing, and a great way to spend a morning. Very informative displays. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant and helpful. Worth the drive.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful aquarium. I was not expecting the outdoor area to be so lovely. The Sea Turtle was amazing and very active when we were there and the lemurs were an unexpected surprise. This is the first place I've been with a butterfly garden where it did not cost extra and it was a fantastic experience. I think it's very cool that it was included in the base price.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed our day with our granddaughter, exhibits are interesting and well explained. Fascinating to see both the River and Ocean life. Good for young and old alike and handicap accessible. Go visit!!!

Glynis Varlack 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: We had 2 wheelchairs and enjoyed our visit. The elevators and ramps were terrific and we got through with no problem. We went to both ocean and river. Some of the fish were enormous!

Fantastic experience: Went May 22’ for my siblings graduation and loved every second of it I plan to go again soon for my anniversary!!

Positive experience: Prices seem a bit high, but it is what it is. There are two portions- The rivers side and the Oceans side. The Ocean side was nice, but not 1/5 as big as the other. The River side is huge and very interesting. I would recommend this if you're in Chattanooga and need to kill an afternoon.

Fantastic experience: Love this aquarium!! It has really pretty grounds, kiddos can play in the streams after the aquarium or go for a carriage ride or walk to food options. The aquarium has a nice flow to keep everyone moving so you can actually see everything. The butterfly garden is the absolute favorite. We could hang out there for hours!! Book online in advance! They do run out of tickets!

Samuel Matthews 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: It's very well done with quite a variety of bothe local and non-local exhibits. Parking lot across the street fills up quickly (Saturday morning), but there is a parking garage next block for $10. Aquarium tickets are a bit pricey. Plan on spending 2 to 3 hours. Since we went on a Saturday, we bought tickets in advance. Don't know if that was really necessary.

Fantastic experience: Went with family. It is a great place to spend the day. Love the otters and the butterfly exibit.

Fantastic experience: We did not think we'd enjoy an aquarium as much as we did. Laid out very well and super informative. Learned a lot a for freshwater environments, definitely have a new appreciation for was lurks in the waters. They have great views of the Tennessee River too, which is fun to look at and think about what may be swimming there that you cannot see. Exceeded expectations.

Fantastic experience: An Unforgettable Dive into Wonder: Our Tennessee Aquarium Experience! My wife and I recently had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, and "astounding" doesn't even begin to cover our experience. From the moment we stepped inside, we were transported into a world of breathtaking aquatic life that truly captivated us. Every single exhibit is meticulously designed and flawlessly executed, offering an immersive journey through diverse freshwater and ocean environments. The freshwater exhibits, in particular, were a true highlight for us. Seeing the incredible variety of fish, reptiles, and amphibians in their naturalistic habitats was simply mesmerizing. You get such an up-close and personal view of these fascinating creatures, truly appreciating the delicate balance of their ecosystems. What truly sets the Tennessee Aquarium apart is the sense of wonder it inspires. We spent hours wandering through the different galleries, discovering something new around every corner. We made so many amazing memories and shared countless "wow" moments together – moments we'll truly never forget. This isn't just an aquarium; it's an educational adventure and an artistic masterpiece. Whether you're a couple looking for a unique outing or a family with kids eager to learn and explore, the Tennessee Aquarium has something for everyone. It's a place where you can connect with nature, be inspired by conservation efforts, and create incredible, lasting memories. We cannot recommend it highly enough – an absolute must-visit!

Fantastic experience: We didnt go to the aquarium but we hung out by the river steps. Super cool. Right under the city. Good view of the river and the acquarium.

Tania 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: We were very impressed with the aquarium in Chattanooga. Our aquarium in Cape Town (South Africa) is great but this was truly amazing! Lots more interaction for kids and adults with the sea creatures and even butterflies. You can spend many hours between the sea and river aquariums. Lots to see and learn.

Brian Ward 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: For a visit that started off as underwhelming, I was amazed at what Dave and I saw at the #tennesseeaquarium in Chattanooga. The first building is freshwater, starting from the top (rainfall in the mountains) all the way down to river deltas. The second building explodes salt water. There are a handful of surprises along the way like the butterflies. Well worth a few hours of your time if you are passing nearby

Martha E. 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: This is a very nice place to visit for children and adults alike. It flows well and did not feel crowded on a Saturday. It got busier after 1. The IMAX theater is high quality both screen and sound. The movies are very good.

Wesley Smith 3 months ago

Positive experience: Line for tickets out the door, purchase online. Overbooked and shoulder to shoulder inside. It was ok, but honestly we found the Ripley's aquarium in Gatlinburg to be more interesting. Also rather expensive for a 1 hour walk through...and we took our time and read signs and identified things in the tanks with 2 teens in tow.

Justin S 3 months ago

Positive experience: Nice experience and good way to escape the Summer heat. Arrived just after 3 on a weekday. Was able to buy tickets and walk thru exhibits with little wait. Aquarium was clean and well maintained. Employees were also very helpful and were sure to ask if we needed anything as they walked by. My only complaint is probably much more of an observation. Adult patrons make it hard for small children to see and enjoy the the exhibits. This was mostly due to conversations taking place in front of viewing areas as opposed to finding a spot that doesn't impede viewing. Would be nice if more movement was encouraged.

Fantastic experience: Everything here is awesome. Lots of exhibits huge fish lots of variety and lots to look at. Gift shop prices are outrageous though. But Everything else is worth price.

Positive experience: It was a good aquarium with many levels and different interactive areas.

Fantastic experience: Wow! Just wow! One of the finest aquariums I have ever visited. Nicely laid out with the river journey in one building and the ocean journey in the other. Be prepared to walk a lot. Tickets were easy to purchase the day of visit. Parking was a bit tough. Loved it!

Melanie Dixon 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Enjoyable experience, two separate aquariums so know that you will have to change buildings. The river aquarium has more displays with the ocean aquarium built around a really large tank. Lots of information, stingray tank, the walk was easy but if the crowd had been heavier that could have caused difficulty. Took a couple of hours to wander around if not rushing.

Shaun Mathias 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: The aquarium was one of our favorite stops on our Chattanooga trip. My grandchild is obsessed with anything fish, turtles, sharks, and other sea creatures.

Asher John Palomo 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Come here with kids from 3-8 and they'll enjoy every step!! The path is clear, not a lot of deviation for kids to get lost. All our kids love EVERY exhibit!! My wife & i enjoyed it so much, too! Would highly highly recommend for families!

Rohan Deb 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Can't recommend this aquarium enough!! Seriously, if you think most cities have one and you won't bother, please do!! The freshwater side in particular is one of the most unique selection of fish I have ever seen. I genuinely thought I was looking at aliens and have never even heard or seen of half the giant river fish there. Truly a great experience.

Fantastic experience: Great aquarium! Knowledgable, friendly staff. Such a unique set up with each of the River and Ocean buildings. Will definitely go again! Tickets were easy to utilize and purchase. Worth the price!

Mason Kohn 3 months ago

Positive experience: Kind of miserable on a weekend with slow adults and screaming kids EVERYWHERE. But it's crowded and popular because it's more than a decent attraction to visit. With prices so high, I hope they can continue to build and add more to this place.

Bryce Deans 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Amazing aquarium. Both buildings were packed with fun stuff. Touching sturgeon and rays, enough gift shops and picture opportunities to get cool stuff without feeling overwhelmed. Most of the walking is flat or down ramps. Only criticism is not being able to buy passes online with the military discount. The line was very fast and easy though.

Kathy-Lee Patterson 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Loved the aquarium. It’s so interactive and I love that they have an outside/inside feel to it. We did both River and ocean. The layout of this aquarium is a great setup and it kept the kids engaged. Would absolutely recommend to go at least once. We travelled from Atlanta to visit and absolutely enjoyed it.

Zilania Alaya 3 months ago

Positive experience: What a cool aquarium! There are 2 buidings to walk through and both are decently sized with a nice time slot to walk around in. It's located in a downtown area so finding parking is a bit tricky but the walk was easy enough and the sights are actually pretty nice. We spent around 2 and a half hours there and spent even more around the farmers markets that were happening at the time. My only gripe is the amount of people we were bumping into it was not only a sat but it was around noon AND a triathlon was going around in the area. So it was BUSY. Also i wish they took pictures of their animals instead of finding them on the internet and posting it behind us after they take our pictures in the entrance. Or honestly, a cute mural or sculpture of sea animals behind your customers? Just an idea. We enjoyed it regardless.

Nikki Collen 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: This is by far the best aquarium I've been to - and we only did half of it. We did the river side and it was truly amazing to think of these fish in our lakes and rivers. It's set up well and is clean and easy no navigate. I'm looking forward to coming back and doing the ocean side on a day where we actually plan on spending a long time there instead of thinking it was going to be a quick visit.

Emily Schwiebert 3 months ago

Positive experience: The ocean side is definitely the showstopper, but the river side has a lot to offer, too. Kid friendly and engaging for adults, too. I'm not a fan of the practice here (and at other places) of stopping people at the entrance with the impression that they need to have their picture taken, only to have it sold to you at the end of the visit.

Jennifer Dennis 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend, very organized & they limit the amount of people so it's not a crazy crowded rush where you can't look at the animals.

Negative experience: Aquarium visit was good until we saw the octopus-tied in a very tiny window with NO ROOM to swim, enjoy his life in n captivity. He wanted to push himself to swim then hitting his head in the wall-sooo painful to see this, our joy turned from joy to sadness, He was so beautiful, and deserves a better life there!!!!!

Caitlin Kent 4 months ago

Positive experience: The employees were wonderful and very helpful. There’s two buildings a river side and an ocean side. There’s ocean side was very disappointing. They had lemurs, a fish tank Including 2 sharks and then a butterfly room. It wasn’t as exciting as it should have been especially for the price you pay for your tickets. They do offer two touch tanks, 2 gift shops as well as wheelchair access.

Fantastic experience: First time coming here since we moved out this way. They provide veteran discounts, which is awesome. If you live in the area, I highly recommend getting a membership. I recommend going as early as possible to avoid the class trips from schools. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Fantastic experience: It was fun and beautiful, there's fish you can pet and and some spots to interact with my toddler had a blast

Phia Velasquez 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: Love it. ... They have a huge collection of river/fresh water fishes and nice sea/salt water fishes. The walk flow getting to see the fishes was great even though there were a lot of people. There were two buildings, one for River and one for Sea. There are some interactive spots for children. Love the rooftop area, especially the butterfly garden. Price is about $ 40+ per person and buy online in advance. The slots of time sold out easily. Make sure to buy at the river building on the souvenir shop because it's got more items and bigger shop than the sea buildings. Inside the buildings, food and drink are not allowed. But outside the buildings, there is a wonderful huge place. It's like a garden with water features, bridges, tables and river view. It also seems like there is an event. Food trucks and tents shop along the area. Also, don't forget to go to "The Passage." Just side of the sea buildings. Water stairs experience River water. ... If you want to walk there a lot of restaurants nearby and River Park. ... We had a wonderful time. ...

Fantastic experience: The Tennessee Aquarium will always be my favorite Aquarium. We went on a rainy Saturday so it was a tad bit crowded but we still thoroughly enjoyed our day there. You can go along at your own pace and there are a lot of good photo spots.

Fantastic experience: This was a great experience for our group. They do a great job with the grounds and all of the animals look well cared for. The butterfly room was beautiful, and the chance to touch sting rays and fish was fun too.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful displays of both ocean and river creatures, fun things for kids to do, nice views of the river outside, ramps throughout for wheelchairs and they give military discount. Suggest you bring small flashlight - some ramp areas are lit a little dim.

Cindy Clark 4 months ago

Positive experience: I had hoped to see more ocean life esp dolphins, seals or whales. I know it's not the aquariums fault but unruly school kids basically ruined my visit. They were even from a private religious school, so you'd assume they would have been well mannered. Accommodating the butterfly room needs improvement.

ch3m1st 4 months ago

Positive experience: Really a great facility and has a great layout. One building dedicated to Fresh Water creatures and the other for Salt Water. The butterfly exhibit was great and the kids really enjoyed the variety of aquatic life. The facility was lacking some of the bigger attractions that other aquariums have but overall a good experience. The terrestrial creatures were fun too! Lemurs...my soon asked if they have a Foosa...I said that might make for an interesting Lemur exhibit :/ Can't wait to visit again.

Naomi Cortez 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: First timers here from Texas. Definitely get tickets in ads ice time slots fill up. Loved the layout and setup. You start from the top floor and work your way down. Great selection of sea animals and creatures. Stroller friendly with accessible entrances for wheelchairs/strollers to get through the aquarium.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I took our oldest grandson here. We had an absolute blast! So much fun! Parking was inexpensive ($10) and right across the street. We paid extra for the IMAX movie, which made for a nice break in the middle of our visit. We enjoyed it so much that we bought a seasonal pass to be able to take another long weekend to Chattanooga and go again. Well worth it!

Myron King (Caltucky) 4 months ago

Positive experience: Decent aquarium in Chattanooga. They have freshwater side and ocean side. Little pricey at about $110 for 2 adults and 1 child when we went, but still fun. The aquarium is right on the river with plenty to do nearby also.

Fantastic experience: Haven’t been to the aquarium in a couple years and I forgot how nice it is. There was hardly anyone there so my kids and I really got to take our time and read through everything. I love how the salt water aquarium and fresh water aquarium were separated so we could grab lunch in between. Both buildings were very clean and employees were helpful!

Fantastic experience: I recently visited the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, and I can’t help but wonder how amazing it was! Although it wasn’t my first time here, this place totally blows me away every time. As soon as I walked in, I was hooked. The layout is neat, one building is all freshwater animals and the other is saltwater animals, so you get the best of both worlds. One of my favorites was the River Journey exhibit. It felt like taking a little adventure from the mountains through the water all the way to the ocean. I liked watching the otters play and the huge tanks with stingrays, sharks, and jellyfish. The butterfly garden was also beautiful, and it felt like stepping into a peaceful rainforest. I could feel how much care goes into every little detail there. The employees were all friendly and accommodating, and the whole facility was immaculate and well laid out. You can tell they’re really committed to conservation, and it was wonderful to be supporting an organization that’s really going the extra mile to save wildlife. If you’re visiting Chattanooga any time soon, you absolutely must come here. Every time I visit, I love every single moment of it!

Fantastic experience: We loved it here! The kids had a great time. The adults had a great time. The freshwater side is STILL the 7th largest freshwater aquarium in the country, and they have some fantastic specimens of some great fish. Lots of fun, cool animals, all very active. Overall just a great experience.

Adam Billingsley 5 months ago

Fantastic experience: Efficient check-in with friendly staff, clean common areas and bathrooms. The consistent center walking area is a very unique feature vs. other aquarium locations. This was a great activity for our 20 month old to have and he was enjoying all of the animals. Signage made it easy for parking our car and the access to the river walk was perfect.

Fantastic experience: One of the better aquariums I've visited. Both buildings are unique. We went on a weekday in mid April and there wasn't any wait or overwhelming traffic inside. Wonderful displays and each building has a super tank showing the multiple levels of life from top to bottom in the waters.

Fantastic experience: Always love going here. A few years back we got the annual pass and went several times a week. You can bring a guest and several kids on the annual pass. Today we went for my son's field trip and it was a little more lively. Everything was more accessible (COVID was just dying down the last times I went) . Kids had a blast and so did I.

Fantastic experience: I've been a few times, but my four year has never been and my mother as well never been. This was their first time and they both LOVED IT. It was fun and easy to navigate. They had food vendors outside. Then we walked around to enjoy the area around the aquarium. It was overall and like always a wonderful experience.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this aquarium since it opened in 1992 and have always recommended everyone I know to go. It's been several years since the last time I went and it was awesome seeing all the new things they have done since then. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Dawn Skipper 5 months ago

Fantastic experience: Wow! I didn't know this existed. The largest amount of fresh water fish I have ever seen. This place is huge and so are the fish! Wheelchair accessible entry and bathrooms. This is a good place to bring the kids because they will be entertained for hours, and the adults will actually enjoy themselves too. The kids can pet the sting rays, and they have a butterfly room that any woman would love. It's definitely a good decision to pin this into your plans.

Positive experience: We went on a weekday outside of holiday season and enjoyed it. No waiting lines and we were able to go in and out as we liked. Well done with nice enclosures for the most part. I would have liked to see a bigger place for the octopus. This looked way too small. But overall one of the better aquariums we have seen in the states.

Nom Nom Nom 5 months ago

Positive experience: Nice aquarium. The river monsters display was particularly impressive. It's been years since I've been here last and the structure and outdoor area seem more expensive, but I remember the aquarium being cooler and more well taken care of. The butterfly room had a lot packed into a small space and it appears several butterflies have died due to lack of care in the hatchery. Most displays have a ton of diversity; great for visitors to see a lot in a small space, but seemed cramped for its inhabitants.

Fantastic experience: We went several years ago when children were young. We decided to visit again because we were in the area. Kids are all grown now but we still enjoyed it. I personally like the lemurs and Alligators as odd as that might be at an Aquarium

Fantastic experience: Best aquarium in the United States (and I'm from Atlanta with the Georgia Aquarium). Exhibits are beautiful and unique and very educational. The layout with the Tennessee River overlook spots is great and the overall experience is done very well without housing giant marine mammals in an acrylic tanks. Hats off to the Chattanooga Aquarium

Fantastic experience: Just went to the Tennessee Aquarium on a road trip back from Florida. We bought tickets early with a 9 AM enter time(opening). I've been to plenty of aquariums within the US, this is definitely one of the better ones. First off, there are 2 buildings. One is used for fresh water(lakes and rivers) and the other is for oceans and island life. I believe thy also have an IMAX theater but we did not have the time to try this out. Fresh water building - They have you take a long escalator all the way up to the top of the building and then descend through a multitude of different well made exhibits. The idea of having entrance times for people made it feel like a more personalized tour. It was not crowded at all(on a Saturday too). The building was very clean as well. Ocean/island building - same concept and care shown in this building as well. This building also has the Butterfly Garden in it. A very peaceful and fun exhibit to walk through and experience. 10/10 aquarium. Definitely in my top 3.

Fantastic experience: The Tennessee aquarium is a great experience, and unique to most since it has a building all to itself for freshwater species. The penguin and butterfly exhibits are especially fun for children. Both the ocean and river journey buildings have their own gift shops, with some items being identical but some unique in each. Lemurs and the large saltwater aquarium were personal favorites. I recommend to purchase tickets in advance for the time you'd like to enter. Allow yourself at least 2 hours to get through both buildings. Remember to account for paid parking and the time you need to be back to avoid parking fines. Plenty to do in the area within walking distance.

Fantastic experience: What an awesome experience! We had the best time and really enjoyed walking through the Tennessee Aquarium! Split into 2 structures, you can explore the River Journey (fresh water) opened in 1992 and the Ocean Journey (salt water) opened in 2005. The exhibits are broken down into different sections around the world and the creatures are in very large tanks equivalent to 10-12 story buildings! As you walk through, you walk on angled paths throughout the building and the layout is sectioned off so there’s plenty of room as you explore. We were impressed with the layout and it was easy to find parking. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Tons of fun, they even have a sturgeon petting tank and a turtle hatchery! It doesn't get any better than baby turtles.

Positive experience: The Tennessee Aquarium was a wonderful experience. Though it was somewhat lacking in its oceanic experience compared to others, the river exhibit made it exceptional overall.
