Positive experience: Was good pet shop but They only discolsed price at counter which was devastating, beyond my expectations. Anyway I took it. Price was not mentioned in the aquarium and wasn't disclosed untill I take it to the counter.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic shop, amazing staff that were super friendly. Allowed my kids to watch them feed the fish and answered all there questions.
Fantastic experience: This wonderful place has staff with great knowledge around animals, they are respectful and answer any questions or concerns and help if needed. The fish tanks were gorgeous and well kept with large, established plants and suitable environments for each species. There were also different species of birds that were all healthy and stunning, along with a variety of well kept enclosures for the great range of other animals there. Prices are also reasonable. Love this place and will definitely make the drive back again!
Negative experience: Stunk…dirty…hd minimal stock…fish tanks need work…friendly reception…not wht we expecting to see. Heard good things. Took the drive and disappointed!!!

Negative experience: Got say i was disappointed the shop was dirty and need a good clean...there was no stock and the bird cages need a good clean the highlight was Everest what a wonderfull bird

Negative experience: Prices of fish are almost double other places
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Thomas. I understand that you find our fish prices higher than other places, and I appreciate your concerns. We strive to offer quality products, which can sometimes reflect in our pricing.
We generally wouldn’t try to justify our prices but we, the little guy, don’t have the buying power that the big guys have and generally we have to pay alot more to get the same livestock in-store. For example, a typical saltwater fish order cost us, the little guy upwards of a third year apprentices weekly wage to get it shipped here and we must absorb that cost into the pricing. Then we have to keep the fish alive, which when you have an ACTUAL RETAIL STORE, staff and as many tanks as us, the cost to keep the store open must be absorbed into the pricing, business 101.
We also offer corals and marine fish, which aren’t offered across much of Tasmania and through extensive research, our pricing is in line with most RETAIL pricing across Australia. Comparing prices with local backyard sellers, online stores and retail stores will always yield cheaper prices for backyard sellers and online stores by default as they don’t have the other overheads.
We value all of our customers and their ongoing support. We encourage everyone to help support the little guy and keep them spending and investing in local small business and community.

Fantastic experience: Wow! I can’t thank Tray enough for helping me with my bird some days ago. Thanks to him, we no longer risk losing another loved bird due to flying away. They certainly have the animals best interests at heart, you can tell they know their stuff! An amazing array of fish and products, not to mention the sweet Guinea pigs and rabbits. Everest, the macaw, is a real hit with my kids also! The staff are so professional yet also make you feel like you’ve known them forever. Thankyou Tray & Josh for being so patient with all questions. We will certainly be continuing to visit!

Negative experience: Will not be returning, had to leave the store when a bird that was brought had its wings clipped on the front counter. Extremely upsetting to see, not to mention unprofessional. Bird was incredibly distressed and handling was not ideal. Frustrating since there is some good stock there but I will not support somewhere that offers such a barbaric practice.
H, thanks for the review! It’s truly a masterpiece of over-the-top outrage, and really highlights how there’s always something to trigger the modern-day keyboard warrior - especially when they’re clearly so knowledgeable about the intricacies of pet care.
For context, after spending most of my adult life in the zoo and animal industry, I can assure you that clipping the wings of hand-raised or flighty birds is standard practice. It’s a precautionary measure to prevent potential injury should the bird decide to take an impromptu flight. But I’m sure you already knew that!
I also understand that YOU found it deeply upsetting and “unhygienic” to witness this happening in a PET SHOP. Perhaps next time, we’ll conduct our wing-clipping operations in the back alley—would that be more to your taste?
Just to clear things up, the bird was in absolutely no distress during the brief 15 seconds it was restrained and happily returned to its owners shoulder afterward. I’d be more than happy to share the video footage to provide further reassurance.
What was truly disturbing was the way you and your mother left in such a dramatic fashion, only to follow up with a call to scold our staff about how “unprofessional” and “unhygienic” the situation was—when, frankly, you seem to be a little out of your depth.
Perhaps it’s worth taking a moment to educate yourself on proper bird care before jumping to conclusions? It’s always good to be informed, after all.
P.S. Feel free to avoid our store in the future—it seems like that would be the best decision for both of us!

Negative experience: This shop has so much potential. I visited the store when it was at its original location and it was fantastic. Recently, I visited the new store. Out side, I was horrified at the state of quails in an end pen, the smell was atrocious. Inside, the carpet was wet & tanks looked rather dirty. It had a smell of potential mould. Apart from these things, the young man behind the counter (Max or Matt?) was quick to greet me and offer any help. I also loved the beautiful big bird.

Fantastic experience: Amazing aquarium display tanks, kinda had to talk myself out of impulsively re-doing my own setup after seeing theirs definitely the best place for fish supplies I’ve seen in Tasmania. Their range of bird toys is great too

Fantastic experience: Very impressive local and independent pet store. Unreal aquariums and supplies . Friendly staff have a lot on keeping up with all the pets and customers. Plenty of general pet supplies but don't go for dog or cat food as they don't have a huge supply, I imagine it's not worth trying to compete with WW and coles so I don't blame them for that. Their new shop layout is really good and quite the visit with a giant macaw and heaps of fish, well worth a visit.

Positive experience: Great selection, great people, a little over priced compared to other pet stores near by, I am yet to buy a new little friend from here that has any type of trauma, so high marks, these guys and girls know their stuff.

It's a hard industry to be in as we don't have the same buying power that the big chains have, nor can we buy in bulk like them; hence the differences in pricing.
Some of our prices are better than others and sometimes we just cannot compete with the big chains, especially with dog and cat products.
We are always happy to discuss our prices as we have nothing to hide and believe the smaller pet stores deserve to have their place within the market as well.

Fantastic experience: I'm incredibly impressed with this pet store, I was very surprised to see their variety of birds. I'm a huge bird lover so it was super cool to see. I especially loved Everest the macaw! They have lots of pet supplies as well, would highly recommend this lovely place :)
