The Mermaids Cave

Negative experience: EDIT There was no scuff mark so that is a complete lie, as in the video I have that I sent straight away when it leaked. You did not show me anywhere it showed visible impact - because there was none. The owner Sasha was nothing but professional, but completely rude and disrespectful to someone who had just spent $100 in their store the day before and would have returned if not have been treated this way over one damaged item. I just matched the way I was treated. Outrageous customer service Yesterday I went to the mermaid cave and spent $100 in store, got back to our holiday park to fill up the mermaid water bottle and it was leaking everywhere on the table.. instantly messaged the instagram page as there was no number and let them know that the bottle I had bought had a visible crack (see photos below), told them I could not come in today but would drop in tomorrow and sent them a video. I was polite over messages but was instantly blamed for dropping the bottle. Went in today waited 5 or 10 minutes for the manager to come to be straight away rude to me even though I was being nice as I know it was just a faulty or damaged item and not their fault. She told me that I have dropped it but she would still swap it, I told her I definitely did not drop this bottle (as also messaged) and I would not be arguing my point after already being told I could swap it if I did actually break it myself. It was about the principal at this point but I kept getting talked over of and told that it was my fault and I dropped it to which I felt really disappointed as I had spent $100 at this small business the day before and got a bottle that was leaking so just tried to bring it back… I would have been happy with a swap but because of the rude customer service and blaming me, as well as the water bottles possibly being duds, I wanted a refund. The customer service was absolutely appalling and I strongly regret spending $100 at this shop to be such a horrible place when replacing something that was damaged or faulty when I bought it. I would not have carried on like this if I dropped the bottle, but even IF I did a kids water bottle wouldn’t break like that as they are durable AS STATED ON THE MAD ALLY WEBSITE. These type of bottles can be purchased from smiggle and my child had one for years without any problems, the manager Sasha was arguing with me and telling me I’d broken the bottle when I was not in the wrong here at all. It was not okay to treat me like that. l will also be contacting the ACC once I’m home from our trip to report this place Also expensive prices to go out the back (we didn’t) because $35 was steep to look at some shells and seahorses in tanks..

Fantastic experience: My partner and I visited The Mermaids Cave after I found it on social media and I truly got lost in the amazement of the place!! Run by such welcoming, kindhearted people, it’s no wonder this place shines with joy, wonderment and a deep rooted commitment to protecting, conserving & advocating for the earths natural wonders in our beautiful oceans. We learnt so much as we wandered through the cave chatting with Georgia as she rocked her beautiful baby boy and we ended up being in there for almost 2 hours!! I truly think I could visit again and again and learn more each time. She had an answer to every question we had and so much knowledge to share about all of the curious creatures and their habitats, both in their aquarium & in the wild! You can tell just how much love and passion the owners have for all of their animals by how well they look after each creature under their care and how well they know all of their little quirks and personality traits! I especially love Daisy the boxfish, that cheeky girl had me hooked with her countless bubble kisses and cheeky water spouts to catch our attention I can’t wait for my next visit! They’ve 2 more tanks with new friends coming soon, I hear a dazzling lion fish might be joining the family , and a very pregnant seahorse currently who I’m very excited to see how many babies he has in a week or two!! For a family-run business who have gathered all of their creatures sustainably and built this business from the ground up, I was blown away at all we could learn & do both here & nextdoor at their sister business, The Mermaid Cafe It was awesome to see so many healthy little creatures thriving in nutrient-rich, authentic ocean environments that have clearly been created with purpose, to reflect the ways that all the creatures in each tank would naturally co-exist in the wild. Hearing about all the roles each living thing has in each tank is so fascinating, and definitely reminded me of why I love deep-diving into marine biology and biodiversity facts & information. If you’re planning a visit to the aquarium & shell museum, and you have endless questions about the marine environment and its fascinating ecosystems & creatures as we did, I’d recommend visiting on a weekday that falls during the school term when there will be less patrons inside. They tend to be busier on school holidays, and understandably so as such an inviting space! The gift shop itself has so much to take in and look at, and I’ve already been trying to figure out when I can get there next as there’s so many more beautiful treasures I’d love to add to my own personal grotto!! Thank you guys so much truly for creating such a beautiful place and doing all that you do we felt very lucky to be given so much of your time today! Fantastic experience: Visiting The Mermaids Cave was an unforgettable experience for our family. The displays are absolutely stunning, with an incredible variety of marine life and seashells, each presented with so much care and detail. We were especially fascinated by the colourful reef aquariums — from clownfish dancing in the anemones to the vibrant corals glowing under the lights, it felt like stepping into another world beneath the sea. The collection of rare shells and marine curiosities was breathtaking, and it was both educational and entertaining for adults and children alike. Our daughter was amazed and couldn’t stop talking about the beautiful fish and the unique exhibits. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you can feel the passion and dedication behind every part of the cave. It’s not just a display — it’s a journey into the wonders of the ocean. We highly recommend The Mermaids Cave to anyone visiting the area. It is truly a hidden gem that leaves you inspired and full of admiration for the beauty of marine life. Negative experience: I honestly cannot believe this place is still operating. We were charged $53 to walk into what is essentially one small room with sad-looking tanks, a few old dodgy dolls, and some colouring pencils - no books, no arts, no crafts! We even asked the staff for colouring in and were told they had none. The tanks themselves looked dirty and poorly cared for, and there was absolutely nothing resembling “mermaids” despite the name. My 6-year-old lasted five minutes before saying, “This is really boring, can we leave”. When a child who loves mermaids says this, you know something is seriously very wrong! This is not an “experience”, it’s a tourist trap preying on families who expect mermaid magic but instead get disappointment and regret. For the price, you’d expect something interactive, creative, or at least maintained properly, but it’s just smoke and mirrors. Charge away - $5 maximum... But considering the tickets are almost the same price as an Aquarium, save yourself the heartache and save your money! Take your kids literally anywhere else! - Adding to this review as the 'Owners' response is nonsence. There were NO arts and crafts offered, even though we requested them. All of the reviews here are listed are from 'locals', that are obviously friends. Read through all reviews before wasting your time here! We have visited many sights at a fraction of this circus, and would take it further for a refund if possible. We are a hard working family that were extorted for a quick buck. Shame on you!

Negative experience: The staff were nice and friendly, but were pretty disappointed in the experience as there’s not much to see / do, yet we got charged $120 for 4 adults and 4 kids(2 x1yr, 1x2yr 1x3yrs), so 2 x family passes, which is a ripoff in my opinion as the kids so young should’ve been free, or max $5 not $15 There’s about 5 fish tanks inside, and a wall of shells - which is really cool too see however that’s all that’s pretty much on offer here. The TikTok videos looked wicked about this place but unfortunately don’t measure up.

Fantastic experience: So you go into the store and its full of lovely things like clothes ranging from babies to adults, shells, jewelry etc. Then you pay for entry to the Mermaid Cave, which is absolutely amazing. There's multiple large fish tanks filled with fish, coral, anemones, eels etc. And yes, Nemo and Dory are there too. There's activity books and colouring pencils and tracing stencils on tables for kids. We were lucky enough to be there for the seahorse feeding and were told all about the seahorses and learnt some things we didn't know. The lady who runs all of this is awesome, friendly and knows her stuff. Its a must see!

Positive experience: Very well put together and offers some good aquatic viewing, only small though and can only really spend 30 minutes in there plus shop is pretty expensive, but we'll worth a visit

Fantastic experience: Brilliant in every way! The staff member was extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the sea creatures here! It is colourful and interesting, with hands on activities and a gorgeous gift shop. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Bought a beautiful turtle wind chime. Got a ticket for the back room, there were different kinds of pretty shells and three fish tanks. Two large ones with fish and the other with seahorses. I believe the owner was the lovely lady who talked to us mostly about seahorse facts, were we there for about 30-40 mins. You could tell she was genuinely passionate which made the tour more fun.

The experience was enjoyable for the whole family, and we especially appreciated how inclusive the space is, making it welcoming for everyone. Fantastic experience: What a little hidden gem. What appears to be a small shop from the front selling shells and all things related to the sea is actually a really and interactive area with fish tanks and fun and interactive things to see and do. The staff are extremely passionate about their jobs and explained a ton of interesting facts about how all the different sea creatures in the tanks look after each other and help to keep the tanks clean. We all loved the experience and will be back again. Then we popped into the cafe next door, run by the same people and had a lovely coffee and a cookie.

Fantastic experience: We recently had a Mermaid Party at the cave and it was such a fun experience. The girls loved the special mermaid, there were so many giggles at her cute jokes - great fun all around. The hosts Georgia and Sasha were so easy going too.. thank you we will be back for more Mermagic in the future. ‍♀️

Negative experience: Lady was talking away and gaming and wouldn’t acknowledge that customers were there. (We’re standing right there at counter for 15 mins. Finally paid to go in- $60 for 4 people! Only 4 fish tanks. Definitely not worth the time and money.

Fantastic experience: What a fantastic local treasure this is. My girls and I spent about an hour and a half in the little aquarium out the back! The ladies that run it are so knowledgeable and we learnt heaps about the beautiful seahorses they look after. They’ve the biggest shell collection I’ve ever seen as well as eels, giant puffer fish, Nemo and Dory just to name a few of the sea creatures they keep! My two love to draw and sat for ages using the stencils, and there’s a cute little mermaid zone for reading. The gift shop is just gorgeous and we purchased a few treasures and then headed next door to the Mermaid Cafe for ice cream and hot chocolate which was a delightful. We’ll be back.

Fantastic experience: Place was awesome. So many cool little treasures and Georgia was amazing. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Would be a great place to bring the kids. The back cove is set up beautifully. I especially loved the eels and see horses. Great place.

Fantastic experience: Gorgeous shop run by the loveliest people. I visited recently and had a fabulous time perusing all the treasures in the front store: one off pottery pieces, amazing shells, cute stuffed toys, jewellery. And then had the pleasure of venturing into the back Aquarium! Beautiful corals and fish, hilarious characters like Karen and Garry the pufferfish, eels and even sea horses which we were lucky enough to see fed and see their teeny baby! There is also a massive collection of ocean specimens displayed beautifully it is truly such a great outing with your partner or friends and perfect for kids as they also have the boba place next door! Couldn’t recommend it highly enough if you’re out and about in Busselton and want something fun and different to do.

Feast your eyes and soak your senses on everything under the sea but the best part of all for those truly passionate about the ocean and it's inhabitants is the owner Georgia! What a magnificent mind full of fun facts and surprising information. Her passion is unrivaled. She engaged the kids and adults alike. Thanks Georgia you are a real life mermaid

Negative experience: Absolute rip off! Paid $18 per adult and $16 for my 18month old who can’t even say fish! It’s one room with 3 fish tanks. They were great to see but not at that cost! Would expect to pay $5-10 and under 2s should be free! Weren’t there for any more than half an hour… do not recommend and never going back. There is more to see in some fish and chip shops!

Fantastic experience: We decided to hold our daughter’s birthday party here and it far exceeded expectations. We had 9 girls attend, between 5-9yrs old. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable about all the sea life, great at keeping their attention and very understanding when a few got sidetracked. We learned about so many different creatures, got some awesome photos, looked at some shells and other sea items under a microscope and had so much fun. We were provided with some awesome party bags and the staff took care of everything, making it easy and stress free. I cannot thank the lovely staff enough for making my girls special day so magical! Everyone who attended, including the adults, had a great time.

Negative experience: Really lovely but so expensive for what it is. It probably shouldn’t cost the same for my 2 year old and my 5 year old to go in

Positive experience: 4 fish tanks and a extensive wall of shells and skeletons. Staff were informative and happy to answer any questions from the kids and adults. There is a corner to read books all things ocean and digital microscopes. Pricey entrance but worth a once off look.

Fantastic experience: You won’t believe what this place is until you enter, a magical experience for young and old. The care that the people have for their clients, and more importantly the little creatures they have is inspiring. Was not on our itinerary but would make this the best experience we had on our trip to Busselton.

Our fav to see was the puffer fishes and the sea cucumber, the sea horses a close third fav, they are really tiny as babies so that was interesting to see. The owner was welcoming and informative.

Fantastic experience: We visited the Mermaids Cave this afternoon thinking it was a pretty little shop - but it’s SOOO much more! They have an entire back area dedicated to all different types of fish, crustaceans & beautiful things you’d find in the ocean. The lovely owner Georgia not only took the time to explain everything but she taught us so much we didn’t know, fed all the animals which was fantastic to see and she did it with so much enthusiasm & joy - you can tell it’s her passion. We would HIGHLY recommend stopping here when you’re in Busselton - so much to see & learn for both the adults & the kids. Thank you for such a fun afternoon Georgia - we’ll be back!

Positive experience: Too pricey for entry at $16 for a child and $18 for an adult. Was highly interested after reading the reviews on Google, but was not expecting it to be a personal collection of shells and a few fish tanks. The lady was really nice, taking her time to talk to us as we were the only ones there. She was very well informed and friendly. She did a feed to show us Karen the puffer fish and explained to my child information in simple language.

Fantastic experience: Loved it - a little hidden gem in Bussellton. We went to do the Jetty aquarium tour but it was fully booked. This was a last minute plan B but worked out a treat. Away from the crowds and heat of the foreshore, we entered the cave and spent a good hour finding amazing creatures in the tanks and learning about them. Staff were full of knowledge and interesting facts that kept both adults and a 7 year old entertained.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful shop, my kids and I loved the cave. Best bit was Sasha giving my kids heaps of facts and info on all the beautiful marine animals in the aquariums. Lovely experience will definitely visit again next time we are in Busselton.

The cave is full of beautiful shells and fish along with other sea creatures. You can literally spend hours in there looking and learning. Sasha and Georgia are lovely and are so knowledgeable. Fantastic experience: A place where passion and heart meets beauty, in the Main Street of Busso. There is the most incredible collection of sea life here, with so many fun souvenirs to make the kids happy! Sasha and Georgia so knowledgeable and will leave you with a massive smile on your face! For kids of all ages it’s 100% worth a visit , educational and fun not to mention we felt so welcome with a tour around the entire aquarium and some education on the species kept there. Positive experience: My daughter enjoyed a birthday party she went to but one staff member very rudely kept yelling at the kids and yelled at parents to leave. I had one child with me and they were quietly looking at the fish tanks. The kids were yelled at without a please and thank you.

Fantastic experience: 10/10 recommend! Quite literally a hidden gem! My partner and I spent the best part of 2 hours enjoying the serene and breath taking tanks while also getting first hand knowledge about all the different species. Perfect for an afternoon with the kids or a calming escape from reality. They also have a really impressive and extensive shell collection! So much to see, so happy we stopped by.

Fantastic experience: Going to Busselton? Check this place out. It's just on the main street, driving towards the jetty. Noelene is brilliant. She gave us a tour out the back of the shop and introduced us to Dory, Kevin the white eel, Nemo the clownfish and more. There are several beautiful aquariums and loads of sea treasures to view. The tanks have living coral and gorgeous fishy favourites. The fish are lively, healthy and have oodles of personality. No crowds. The local handmade pottery cups etc in the shop front are amazing to. My girl and I can't wait to return. Thanks Noelene

Fantastic experience: This place is just gorgeous! There is such a wide range of beautiful things to see in here. The actual mermaid cave tour is fantastic too and Sasha who showed us around and gave us such a detailed description of all of the creatures in the aquariums was a wealth of knowledge. Can't wait to one day get back here! The gift shop was amazing also, so many beautiful mermaid gifts, toys and merchandise. Definitely a must see in Busselton! Was such a highlight for my 6yr old daughter.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience seeing all the wonderful creatures and having their behaviours explained by friendly staff. The aquariums were so beautiful and well maintained. The seahorses were so majestic. The pufferfish were so cute and hilarious to watch bob about. So much great info and an impressive and extensive sea shell collection. I loved Kevin the moray and the colourful corals, anemones and tropical reef fish. My teenager spent a long time looking at fun finds under the microscopes too. The adults and kids loved it. Will be back again soon!
